In the end, war couldn’t be extinguished. But, there was a transformation. Even in the heart of a worthless accomplice in mu*der who was indifferently continuing his task, there was a transformation. The massive weapon “Object”.

This was a weapon that changed the whole definition of war. An exchange student named Quenser, who was dispatched to the battlefield, met at the base a girl with a strange aura. The girl, dubbed “Elite”, is the pilot of “Object”. The near future. This diminutive boy had come to take on the role of standing up against the strongest weapon “Object” for the sake of the girl. This was the motive for their first meeting.

Kamachi Kazuma, nuff said.

The premise of the story is crafted well. The interactions and the intentions of the people are superb. A nice read if not for the occasional wall of text explanations done by the people.

A Mecha story.. Where we have at least two loveable characters.. Who have to fight.. Mech's.. The catch? Usually without being a in a mech.. With their own bodys.. Like foot soldiers.. Got your interest yet? If so good! We get to read about our protags as they come up with ideas to blow up mechs without the support of another mech!
I recommend this to anyone who likes the strong lose to the weak, mechs and politics to a extent!

Each volume is focused on some specific theme, for example politics, pollution, natural resources, war, governance and even international sports events.

While the series is littered with comedic elements, most of the jokes gets old and persisting elements simply gets repetitive and boring when the number of volumes is taken into account. Imagine the same joke told three times each volume for five volumes straight, without fail.

While conflicts, which in turn leads to action scenes, are consistent throughout the series, there is a fatal flaw in plot progression:

Spoiler

The fact that the author hints and sets up romantic interests around the protagonist but doesn't progress with it at all, seemingly scared of breaking the balance and putting off readers who support either female protagonist is disappointing and frustrating over time. The way the plot progresses makes the reader wonder whether the events in previous volumes even transpired, as though the relationship between characters just simply reset themselves when they should have grown much closer over all this time spent together.

The only noticeable progression we see is between the male sub-lead and his romantic interest over the course of one of the earlier volumes. The fact that the author pairs up the two male leads all the time creates an endlessly stoic environment for mindlessly increasing the number of volumes/books sold, exploring problems surrounding modern day society with insight no more than that of a typical high-school student.

Essentially, to summarize, if the author took the plunge and either progressed character relationships or even wrapped up the series earlier, would have earned a much higher evaluation as a whole in différance to other similar works.
[collapse]

Therefore, I recommend the series as a light read, for predictable but descriptive action scenes and some basic, elementary world-building from a shallow perspective. <<less

A military novel written by someone who have absolutely no idea how a modern, or even not so modern military think or function as a whole. I can say that any modern military that is even half competent can defeat an object based military in half a year. The characters are weak and underdeveloped, Qensil as the main protagonist is a complete Mary Sue and is frigging annoying, since he manages to escape every battle, no matter how fierce, practically unscathed. The secondary protagonists Hevia is much better choice as... more>> a primary protagonist, since he have better motivation and back story, but sadly we are stuck with the Quensil. The author has shown the ability to write much better characters, both main and supporting, in A certain magical Index and those guys make the jokers in this Heavy object to pale in comparison. The best comedy in this series comes from incompetence of the author regarding anything vaguely related to the military, physics, geopolitics or other cultures. I laughed my ass off several times by the middle of the second volume because of this, if you like harem, sci-fi and not particularly picky on details, probably will like the series, if you have even slight knowledge on military doctrine, give it a pass. <<less

The story has great potential but executed rather poorly. There are too many logic loopholes for me to enjoy it properly and quite a few things they do just seem improbable (yes I know it's a mecha story).

A conundrum of a series, there's a strong underlying plot and the constant evolution of strategies which are completely ridiculous continues chapter by chapter, but it relies so extensively on miracles or low chance gambles both amuses and annoys me. This is pretty much an action film in a novel format. High octane action, high risk maneuvers and magically the hero gets out unscathed time and time again. It calls for a complete suspension of disbelief (ironic considering the novel itself relies on a science/logic to a heavy degree) such... more>> that after a while, the novel is less about "being thrown into unfavourable circumstances" and more about "what nonsensical method is going to be shown".

It's a good fun read but frankly, it suffers from the same weakness all action-ey series have, there's no real substance to the backstory (or it's revealed over so many volumes that foreshadowing is foreshadowing the foreshadowing at this rate....) <<less

Lots of action. Progresses rather quickly. Well written.

Highly repetitive in almost all elements of the book (s), when it comes to any subplots or anything other than just fighting mechs. Jokes are fine for the first few books, but it falls off rather quickly when you can predict or hear the same recycled content over and over again. Same author who did Toaru Majutsu no Index, so expect more or less of the same pitfalls as Index. I'd only recommend if you are a glutton for light novels that recycle... more>> the same old content as well as incorporating typical shounen troupes. Or if you are bored. <<less
