I finished He Became the Only Ally of the Abandoned Warrior, and I think that this story... is terrible. Don't read it. That's the short summary of my reading experience.

Spoiler

All the characters in this story are so dumb. The Goddess Justini is an idiot, and her sister Angria the Demon Goddess is so jealous of her sister's creations. Therefore, Angria plots to steal whatever is the most important to Justini, which turns out to be our protagonist, Lin. This happens for three different lives. As the lover of the first hero, as the reincarnated second hero, and as the porter Lin.

The Hero's Party is also full of idiots. The Saintess could not be bothered to double-check her home, which is destroyed right after she is promised her home would be supported. The Elf was too timid to even stand up to a bunch of a**holes, who were so evil they brag about erasing an Elf from history ala Stalin propaganda. The Mage was a homunculus copy of a NTR-ed heroine and least guilty. The Hero, or Warrior according to MTL, is a terrible character that deserves the betrayal scene from the Arrogant Saga game that reincarnated Lin once played. The biggest douche Shield Knight convinces everyone to betray the Hero because he wants balance, but he is not a well written character like Thanos. He's pure garbage.

The worst was the spoiled princess who helped facilitate Shield Knight's grand plans. No brain, all rot.

[collapse]

The terrible story is also not helped by the terrible translations. Lots of wrong pronouns, bad Anglicized names, and paragraphs that confuse.

Why did I read this all the way? I guess I must have a pain inhibitor, like the main character Lin. The pure hatred I had could only be expressed at the end of the story. <<less

This is pretty good if you ignore the obvious MTL part. It's not that it has an unreadable translation, but mostly the confusing pronouns that makes you wonder who's speaking to whom.

Story wise: it doesn't shy away from using strong and gruesome depiction. The hero being obsessed with our MC is perfectly reasonable and anyone who experience what she did would probably end up the same.
Spoiler

The hero got betrayed and all of her limbs were amputated, MC saved her and she lived for a month or two like a sac of potato, heavily dependent on MC from eating, down to potty situation hence the not surprising obsession.

[collapse]

Harem alert, aside from the yandere hero, MC also has a connection to the saintess, the thieves guild leader, and a childhood friend.

If you don't have any problem with what I mentioned then you're good to go. The writing and the story is super interesting 👍

I wanted to give it a try even though this TL group is known for the poor quality of their translation, but I couldn't get past 10 chapters. I just couldn't anymore.

Even the good old classic MTL is better, since at least, MTL translates the original story. Sure, sometime sentences don't make sense, but it's a translation nonetheless. In this case, it's not even a translation anymore, but more like reading a book written by AI. Every chapter screams ChatGPT. It's not just a translation issue, but the entire chapter... more>> that's being paraphrased (or even writtenf or all I know) by ChatGPT.

Did you ever try to ask ChatGPT to write a story for you ? If you did, then you'll understand what I mean. The story skips important elements, random encounters happens for no reason, pointless characters appears for a single chapter, and it always ends with the same bs sentence like 'Together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, ready to carve out their destiny in a world fraught with danger and uncertainty.'.

When you ask ChatGPT to write or fully edit a chapter, that's what you get. Tbf, I knew this TL group was bad and I always tried to stay far from whatever novel they picked up even when the premise looked interesting, so it's my bad. I should have just done as usual and ignore this novel.

I swear those TL groups picking up ton of novels and farming them in ChatGPT is becoming a real annoyance. Not only they ruin the original novels, but because they pick so many novels other—and competent—TL groups don't pick them up. In this novel's case, the OVERuse of AI so obvious that we can't even judge the story for what it is. Some chapters have been edited so much by the AI that it's impossible to know which sentence is translated from the original novel, and which is from ChatGPT.

Sorry for the outrage, but this needed to be said. I truly hope this TL group disappear once and for all in the void of internet, so other groups can pick up their novels—some of which really look interesting. <<less

(Sorry it's my first review and I hope it makes a bit of sense for you to get what I mean)

Imagine this. (You) the judge of food for a student, and the student being the author who is the cook.

The cook starts off with basic ingredients, basic smell, but it feels like home and what you are supposed to do for the food. Than you start to see them have a weird smirk on their face; than the cook grab weird ingredients out of nowhere and starts to... more>> throw it in and starts to cook a bit more. Starts to give off a weird smell and can you start to taste a lil bit of it from the fumes it gives off and it starts to taste foul. (You) start to panic and get worried for the ending results, just hoping your student is like playing a silly prank and it might actually start to taste good. For the final result for the food. But you also can't help but just sweat and dread, on the thought of "what if it doesn't?"

This is exactly how I feel about the novel. I hope for a turn around eventually for the story but I'm honestly worried what the author is writing. Still gonna read it but the recent chapters kind of just left even more bad taste in my mouth.

Edit: Not gonna read from this studio again because of their aggressive anti ad blocker. I won't continue to read the story anymore. <<less

As someone who read the novel. The translation for this novel can be found on two translation site. Both have translated the text different sometimes adding more, other times less. The story is all over the place and the shitty translation does not help. Incorrect pronouns on characters who are talking and who are not are confusing and misleading.

If you like the overused basic premise of the hero party vs demons; the harem members regretting their choices, drowning in guilt and seeking MC affection and forgiveness; and a MC so kind, forgiving, cool, altruistic whose soul is so pure that is able to captivate and charm not only women, but also men (literally there was a dude who wanted to f*ck him), then read it, if not, dont do it.

I have to agree with MobNPC; The brainless selfish female hero and her disgusting obssession is just unbeareable.... more>> Hey, I understand her obssesion is justified;Even though she treated him horribly, he cared for her and was her only ally until she recovered her limbs that were severed by her comrades, yet She just keep yelling and acting as a muscle head who only knows how to destroy and kill. She doesnt evoke anything good and doesnt help when she is the Main one.

The selfless MC who wants to protect everything, forgive EVERYTHING - He has forgiven the harsh treatment he received in the hero party from the hero and the mage, will do the same with the saintess and archer, but not the shield knight because he is a male and doesnt get in the harem, 0bviously all men are bad except the MC-, and is desired by every woman- The demon party, the counterpart of the hero party, comprised of females members are in love when the MC, Why? No idea.

The author using the worst tropes for characters made this a really hard dish to eat. <<less

Not gonna lie, I tried to give this story a chance, but I just couldn’t take a liking to the character nor the story.

Spoiler

First of the main heroine, I fully despise her.

She is a psychotic and obsessive character who only takes a liking to the MC after he saves her, but before that she treats him like tr*sh and now she is imposing herself on the MC, basically forcing herself upon him.

For your info, the heroine is the hero and had a fiancé who also betrayed her and was so much in love with that guy that she forced our MC to wear a mask/called him ugly because she didn’t want to see another man’s face other than he fiancé‘s.

Additionally the MC has no choice but to semi-accept her advances because of how much he pitys her and because of how mentally destroyed she is. All of that mainly because he needs the hero to save the world.

The heroine is too selfish.

Now to the MC, it’s annoying but in the first 20 chapter we get next to no information about his personality his aims, beside saving the world, his like or dislikes or what he feels about the other character.

It is just not enough.

The story overall just taste bad-

and there are even confusing chapter mix ups, I think it was chapter 9 or so, but that chapter just doesn’t make sense in the context of the story.

Betrayed Hero becomes obsessed with MC.

It's has great start, but slows down and the flashbacks are abrupt.

Lucy, Hero, is an interesting character. She is rude and blunt, but after the betrayal she's is understandable obsessive towards her savior, Lin.

Plot: The Female Hero, Lucy, is betrayed but her whole party, expect for our MC, Lin. The story continues to see if they are successful in restoring the hero, possible revenge, and a new evil.

Spoiler

The betrayal was brutal and unique. Lucy's party members dismember her limbs after they defeated the demon king. Lin saved Lucy. With Lucy unable to do anything without Lin, she started to develop feelings and an obsessive with him. It was enjoy to see her dynamic with Lin change and how she slowly bonds with him.

[collapse]

Overall, I really enjoy the character develop of Lucy and her development with Lin.

However, it slows down after a certain point in the story (Around c16). <<less

honestly, it feels really iffy. The author sometimes forgot about core settings of his own story, sometime he went really indepth about small detail and sometime he just skip through entire arc of story by some "gradually they rely on each other more and more, filling each other's weakness. Together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, ready to carve out their destiny in a world fraught with danger and uncertainty." filler bs. Very unpleasant.

I've been enjoying every chapter so far, I'm a bit disappointed in the harem plot overtaking the main hero and her dependency. Although I can say the earlier chapters are a great hook and the recent chapters seem to be course-correcting to having main heroine be the main deranged gril.

Also, be wary of lots of grammar errors and mistakes (gender changes) here and there.
