It's a great story, Have great war building, and enjoyable army commanding.. The antagonists are real threat to the MC, and aren't easy to win like other novels.

I am dropping the novel tho Bec:
The MC never adapt to the world he is in nor evolve, there is foreshadowing that MC will evolve but again I have read 281 chap and yet to see that. He continues to be a wimp, a typical japanese cliché portrayed character that I find impossible to exist in real life. Lack any charisma and ambitions, I get this is part of his personality but it's not working for me.

The dialogue is weak in my opinion and very weird like I can't believe people end their phrase with" you can't kill him, you know". Maybe it's japanese lack of certainty in their speech. It's so bad.

The third problem is the author keep foreshadowing a dramatic action since the beginning of the novel, yet I have read 281 chapters and it still didn't happen but they keep foreshadowing and I am honestly tired of that. Common already if you going to do it, either don't tell in advance or don't take long to do it after foreshadowing.

For spoilers

Spoiler

he keep repeating the beast girl death and the breaking point over and over, yet he doesn't do it. It got on my nerves. Just do it, don't keep me worried about the scene but never delivering. I can handle if I was reading and she dies over this never ending teasing but never reaching the point

As soon as I saw the beautiful cover I knew this was going to be good and this comes from a fussy reader with a high novel drop rate. The story is really good, written well and has a completely different feel than most other Isekai novels I have read in the past (probably because it doesn't go down the whole summoned to another world to defeat the demon king route) and doesn't read like wish fulfilment BS. The characters are very memorable and done well. The author foreshadowing the... more>> future which can sometimes be a bad thing but I think was done rather well in this novel. Theres also lots of wholesome moments and low key comedy which doesn't take away the seriousness of the plot. <<less

A great story so far none of that excessive wish fulfillment mess or extreme overpowered abilities. Hopefully the story will maintain the same level of quality.

A reverse weeb that fell in love with Tolkien wrote this.

If you're familiar with the Silmarillion and LOTR you'll instantly recognize the themes the author is using from the prologue.

A good balance of taking things to the ultimate consequence and how a "small country" that raises its development by introducing modern (Japanese) "culture" and TECHNOLOGICALLY VIABLE scientific knowledge of a 16-year-old, CLASH and fester conflict with a QUASY-MEDIEVAL setting

YES this is NOT a medieval setting... it's "similar" but the amount of development points to a period of time where countries... more>> raised themselves WITHOUT the Roman Empire, which from a historic and societal point of view is very interesting to read about... it's a mishmash of BRONZE AGE SOCIETAL advancement WITHOUT the Roman empire with the added technology of early medieval times, I was SO SURPRISED that it wasn't EXACTLY medieval... the author knows his stuff, it's just strange enough to call it a logical development taking a stance where Rome never existed, which I PERSONALLY LOVE since whenever you see a medieval fantasy, with the way it's structured, it assumes there was a ROMAN fantasy because of the developments shown (Without the romans there would be no medieval age).

IT FRIKKEN WORKS, and I personally can't stop gushing about the world building.

BUT THE AUTHOR WON'T SHUT UP WITH THE FORESHADOWING.

He tries so hard to pin the needle of "destruction" to eeeeeverything.

The author peppered the "Divine son of destruction" findings of the world in a distant future where we don't know anything about it by presenting papers, interviews, diaries, historian records etc thorough the story.

is it a metaphor? is it literal? wtf is it? who knows! in the end it feels wishy washy, and it ends up being annoying by the end of volume 2.

And I'm guessing the author knew because he kind of stopped being so blatant about it in the middle of volume 2.

Author may have tried to do something similar to The Saga of Tanya the Evil but failed.

But it's fine.

I forgive him.

Just the worldbuilding (without the foreshadowing) is enough to have me drooling all over this work.

And the mythos being living flesh, and the future dread, and the wits of our MC, and the characters around him, and the developments, and politics, and management... everything is so well done...

Read this. <<less

I really enjoy this novel. This isn't another isekai where the MC simply beats others into submission, nor where the author tries to make the MC a genius strategist but can't quite sell it. The MC succeeds in building political power through what feels (at least to me) through a plausible combination of wits (including knowing when to rely on others), diplomacy, and a reasonable amount of luck. For good measure, the translation reads as smoothly as you could ask! It's not perfect: I particularly think the occasional passage describing... more>> the perspective of the far future is a mistake. (On the plus side, I feel like those passages have become less frequent as the series has continued.) But then how many books are perfect? I'm always looking forward to the next chapter release, and I'm comfortable rating it five stars. <<less

The story itself has a decent initial development, the world building is actually done quite solid. One of my initial gripes is the amount of fore-shadowing, leaving nothing of suspense for the reader.
Spoiler

As things progressed it becomes more evident of the lack-luster MC. Besides the massive amount of fore-shadowing to which a epilogue is basically a apart of a chapter, there seems to be less side character development to say the story is primarily on the strategism would be a understatement. The main character doesn't stand out, other then the whole over-coming the difference sent of mortality situation there isn't anything special at this stage in the story that highlights the characters personality, opinions (much less side characters) besides being drawn into a ploy by a goddess of destruction.

For now I give it 4 star because enjoyable.

Well all the good part already got talk so my most annoy thing about this story is that: FUTURE SPOILING. I dont care about future what will happen if he died or whatever he left behind. It is like putting cart before the horse, you are reading and now all the thing get spoil by "in future abc xyz the MC do or left behind blah blah" really make the story anti climax because well he win or manage in the end... more>> right. When I reading those I have to check the author name twice to make sure that this isnt another book from author of "Realistic Hero rebuilding kingdom blah blah" because how the hell it so alike.

Edit 1: Good part is that author finally notice and drop or decrease the number of future spoiler - still have future spoiler but after everything have been explain and happen. <<less

Okey so having read a fair I amount I felt like doing a review on this story.

To start of the bad parts

The description used by the author at the first couple of chapters is pretty bad in my opinion just the first few lines were he writes that thousands of thousands years ago, no even ten thousand times tens of thousands of years ago. Then hundreds of hundreds years ago, so instead of writting how actual far back it is the author felt it more dramatic to write time in... more>> two sentences following each other. It does however get better once you get to some 20-30+ chapters which makes this not to bad but it will turn of readers who won't even get past the first part because of this. It doesn't turn out great later on either but it is decent and sometimes even good.

The MC is a normal highschool kid from Japan who get's teleported into a fantasy world set in what appears to be about the roman empire timeline. Still because he played a bunch of video games, read manga and light novels and chatted with otaku friends he for some reason knows a ton about warfare and how to make weapons etc (though because he can't explain what saltpeter is (for some reason) he can't make gunpowder). So like a lot of these stories the MC is a walking library. This is something I am not a fan of especially when the author tries to portray the MC as being someone pretty much normal, weak and with no special power.

The author loves to foreshadow/spoil things that are to come or even to some parts how the story will end, and I kid you not when I say that about 1/5 of the story for the first 100 or so chapter is pretty much about this. There really isn't any suspense since a lot of the major plot points or things to happen down the road are already spoiled by the author. I can't stress enough how much the author is a fan of this. Personally I don't mind either the first few chapters going something like "the "insert MC" saved the world but few knows the real struggle at he/she wen't through at the time, this is the story about the true history of "insert MC"." Even some small foreshadowing can be nice but when a large part of a chapter talks about how
Spoiler

For instance the MC will win this or that battle by doing this or that, or the MC was still kind hearted but after being betrayed he will turn into a monster etc etc

[collapse]
it kinda sucks the excitement of finding out what will happen, though I supposse some will be looking forward to when said part happens.

The author tries to go for a heavy and dark setting but for some reason when anyone interacts with the MC they simply go hooray follow the MC! With little to no reasons except that it feels a bit too convenient and he's the MC so why not?
Spoiler

For instance a female elf has been kept as a captive by humans for about 200 years while being r*ped/abused for almost all of that time, her home was also burned down and her family/race mostly butchered by humans but when she meets the MC (who is also a human) and is prepared to become his s*x s*ave to protect the other female elf s*aves (she was even abused/raped to such a degree that she had become someone with split personalities before meeting the MC) the author even spends a whole chapter to tell us about how bad of a life she had. But then MC say's your free! So she breaks down her split personalities becomes one again and almost instantly proclaims her loyalty to the MC and becomes one of his most trusted general within just a few sentences and then also makes all her elven sisters follow her and they become one of the MC's most trusted archer company, which the author tells us by spoiling the future shortly after.

[collapse]
Most of the time it is all explained by the MC being a divine child (which is someone chosen by a god). The only problem is that the god that has chosen him is someone that almost no one knows about since no one prays to her and even the other gods fear her and doesn't want any knowledge of her spreading so almost no one should know of her, but a long the line everyone just seems to go with the flow and go oh we had a goddess like that? Cool.

Now to the good parts.

First of I quite enjoyed most of the characters in the story though some are just unbelievable or the author just seems to change them to fit a stereo type for no good reason. The MC for some reason goes from weak to powerless in this story which was a surprise and as far as I've read he doesn't really have any strengths outside of having played video games, read manga/light novels and had some otaku friends.

The world setting and plot is overall good though there are some plot holes if you look for them. To summerize it the ruling humans call the other six races sub-humans and is pretty much set to either exterminate them entierly or turn them all into s*aves while the MC appears and say's thats bad lets all make a country where we can all live together without prejudice, but since the ppl in power doesn't want that MC and friends goes on a jolly adventure where they kill most of the ppl getting in their way. So in short an underdog story.

Some nitpicks.

While I do enjoy that the story is fairly realistic (though with beastmen and dinosaurs that can talk) some parts are just plain weird in my book and sure I guess it's for the plot but still, some spoiler ahead.

Spoiler

A spymaster is introduced fairly early and wow the dude is pretty amazing in a world without magic, technology around the iron age and only one spy in the city where the MC is at well the spy that is stationed there is pretty OP I mean everything the MC does from the secret plan making talks to his everyday life everything is recorded down and sent to the spymaster in no time. For instance when they are to be attacked it takes at least two weeks for the army to walk that distance if they barely rest but for some reason the spy is able to send a complete detail of the MC's battle plans to the spymaster within 6-7 days at most, who then in turn hands it over to the general leading the attack.

During the major battle where the MC has some 1200-1500 soldiers with only weapons and almost no training in how to fight as an army while going up against an army of 7000+ elite soldiers fully decked out with spears/swords/armor/shields etc they manage to get a decent hit into their flanks but does no real damage they start shouting that they've won and then the elite army who is being lead by the strongest general their country has ever had and that is about to crush them just instantly crumbles. I mean there are more then ten chapters dedicated to this single battle showing of both sides strategies and how the battle turns out but then when the bad side is about to crush them the MC just screams out you lost! And then the super elite army just crumbles. Cause the author say's their morale broke since most of them turned around to see what was happening and couldn't see clearly so they all decided to flee for their lives. This really felt like some deus ex machina sh*t cause the author pretty much realized that they had made their MC and friends to weak and couldn't think of a way for the to win so they just went with, oh the other armies morale broke so instant win.

There are other things as well but yeah getting a bit longwinded here.

Currently, just after finishing translating the first chapter, I'm giving the story a rating of 4 Stars.

Overall, the story is a lot more refined and the writing is less than horrid from what I was expecting from an Isekai novel. I wouldn't compare it to, say Overlord, but it's definitely a decent read thus far, granted I was somewhat liberal in my translations to prevent the story sounding cancerous at some parts.

Spoiler

So, the first chapter starts out with the main character getting transported whilst in his home. Afterward, he appears in an underground temple to a quote-unquote "Evil God" worshipped by heretics. After the heretics are what I would consider carefully introduced by the author with a good amount of detail, the author then kills them off, basically pulling a bold move as if the story were Game of Thrones. From there, the rest of the chapter is kind of used to world build, leaving the reader confused as what came about the MC while everything went down around him.

Pretty good story. Good characterization, good progress, and good premise. The only thing holding it back is the massive spoilers the author give in the form of historical records from the future about the life of the MC. Worth the read, but skip that nonsense if you don't want the story ruined, it completely removes all tension from the story when you are explicitly told by the author how the story ends and how the world develops in the following centuries. I can't understand why the author sabotages their own... more>> story like that. <<less

It has it strengths like the well developed setting of this incredibly rich and vast world and the story's grand ambition on tackling a story of an epic scale and hard themes. The are some issues like some shallow characters that kinda ruins the depth the story is trying to and the dumb spoilers that ruins the tension and suspense.

But the story's greatest fault is in how it handles it themes.

The author is so blunt and clumsy when it comes to handling of the story's themes. One that most annoys... more>> me most are the gods, specifically the god of humans and goddess of death and destruction. Here is where the author is at the most clumsy. The god of humans is irredeemable, maybe the author's commentary on humans. The goddess of death and destruction is wishy-washy who just keeps appearing to speak empty platitudes which reflects the author's very shallow understanding of death and destruction.

The author just don't have much deep understanding of the themes that the story tries to tackle. It kinda feels like these themes are tacked on in the hopes that the story would feel deep and meaningful, only that, it fails to be.

Though, I have to give credit, the author did try and the author do try to tackle these heavy themes respectfully even if the author falls short in the end.

Overall, this story is still a great read if you can forgive the author's ineptness in tackling the story's themes and few other elements. The author definitely put thought and heart into this story and that to me makes this story worth a read. <<less
