First off -- The author is a big football fan. I like it when the novel has western names in it but here people literally having footballing names as shown below and it ruined this novel for me at the beginning itself.

Spoiler

One of the soldiers is named Frank Lampard. A kingdom is named Zenit St. Petersburg and these are "some" of the examples!PERIOD!

[collapse]

The plot, in the beginning, was promising. I am a big Kingdom Building/Strategy type fan. But as it goes on, I lost my interest in it as he deviates more on how to make himself strong and ignores pretty much everything else.

AND the villains! Oh My God!! They are mindless idiots who offend him for various reasons and end up dead. No creativity! I enjoy a Riboku (Kingdom) or the Republic's general in Alderamin on the Sky sort of characters as villains, but No!! It will and has to be a vicious cycle of powerful pampered ponsies offending the hero and getting their a** handed to them.

So this is one of the many good examples of how to take a good plot and completely ruin it. <<less

I will give this 3 star, why?

For 100 chapt story still good and still interesting and I will give that 5 star, but Author not consistent when he start arc 2.

1. MC lving so fast, it's still ok coz he have cheats, but other character cultivation so fast even ordinary soldier cultivating like genius from other country. Come on man

2. Equipment from diablo, I just dont know how to explain it, how come bow when drop from lv 10-20 can be that valuable in the eyes of other prince, and... more>> how come blacksmith 1st map have legendary hammer and blacksmith 2nd map not even worth mentioned in chapter?

3. One man army, basically all war MC just go forward and beating around. Not even care about high level warrior enemy and he can even win with himself. Then what the f*ck your army for?

4. Potion resource for MC like unlimited and how come you have rejunivation potion in 1st map and appear suddenly without mentioned you convert that from diablo? Although I don't play diablo are they really give full rejunivation potion in 1st map?

thats why I give that 3 star <<less

Review as of 279...

Great story. Has almost everything that other reviewers rate an tell as bad. But I like the execution.

As they say, a lot of bad mouthing and MC brutally beating them up. Call me crazy, but It's actually one of my guilty pleasures.

Repetitive story. yeah. But aren't most WX novels repetitive? So I just gave it a five star to boost rating in respect with the Author. But my real score would be a 4. Good read though. I read this without prior knowledge to the plot. Big... more>> fan of Diablo 2. This story makes me want to play the game again.

I guess one of the major reasons why I read this is because of the Diablo 2 connection. But the story outside of Diablo 2 is also good. <<less

This is another gem worth reading. I gave it a solid 4 stars because of the solid story telling of the author. The author has a unique sense of humor and it can be easily seen through his naming sense. I mean, if you are going to name the characters using celebrity and other influential names it can either be a hit or miss. Some readers will like it, some will not. In the end, the story is still awesome in its own way even with this kind of naming... more>> sense.

For those who are familiar with the names and other terms like "Saint Seya" this title will perhaps make you cringe. Everytime you see those names you may feel awkward or cringey. Nevertheless, this is a great read and I highly recommend it to those who are looking for "completed" titles worth reading.

My only gripe? Hmmm... I wished it had a more fulfilling and satisfying happy ending. Even so, I would like to point out that this novel is worth reading. Kudos to the author for doing a great job! <<less

this story makes me really want to go back and play Diablo 2 LOD, so if that was the aim, then it succeeded. the story itself is ok, but eventually I just gave up and went to replay the game instead. why read about playing when you can just do it?

as for the actual story, I don't have much impression one way or the other. I thought maybe the author got paid to make a super long advertis**ent for Diablo 2 and if that was the goal it worked well... more>> enough. not well enough to keep me interested in reading the story, but well enough to blow off the dust and go replay a classic game.

I'm rating it a three because I don't remember thinking it was bad... it's just nothing much about the actual story stayed with me once I finished a chapter.

edit: it lost another star because it's yet another badly done harem <<less

Above average story.

Pros:

Translated pretty well.

... more>> Characters are also pretty good.

The Diablo II cheat skill (yeah, you read that right) is implemented sensibly.

Cons:

A little slow on romance

A little slow on kingdom development

A little slow on MC growth

Not much detail on the actual metrics of the kingdom (i.e. How much money, how much food, distribution of labor, how much trade, ect)

Kind of slow, but that's what happens with these.

As of ch90, not much romantic development. Gradual kingdom development, but nothing too dramatic.

Been talking about this tournament thing for 50 or so chapters. No idea when it'll happen.

But this pace is pretty normal, so 4 stars. <<less

So far a great novel and worth reading. I really dont know why people who have read the RAWS come here to rate at all. I will only rate the translations and as far as that, its amazing. The novel is great and very interesting. Many people gave bad rating for diablo but dont listen to those hard core idiots. Someone using Material that exist in the Real world doesnt mean they have to use it the way it is. The authors changes and make stuff up on the game... more>> but who cares! This is not a FAN-Fiction of Diablo game. Its a fictional novel who uses some information from the game.

The novel start is amazing it started in the middle of a WAR! Full of intense fighting etc. So far the novel is great and definitely worth reading. <<less

Loving this series right now, it is also my favorite series I have read in a long time. It's just a shame that it doesn't have daily posts, like I know it is difficult to translate but I can still wish right?

I did not think I would like this story, but I still gave it a try. It was a good thing I read it, because it is a pretty good story. The MC is a king, but still acts like he is back on his world. The only gripe I have is the way the MC powers-up, but I guess is is different than your typical info dump on meridians, dantians, etc. Hopefully the translators keeps his pace of translated material.

Edit: I am dropping the series, because of how... more>> the MC becomes spineless with two crappy beauties:
Spoiler

Two princesses are rivals and chose Fei's kingdom as the battleground. The fight would have destroyed his kingdom and killed his subjects, luckily he was able to prevented. So, these wenches do not care about anyone, but themselves, yet Fei somehow has a good relationship with one, and begins to build one with the other. Supposedly, Fei did not kill them before, so they could keep each other in check, but it seems they have become harem members. These wenches were going to destroy his kingdom, and he has many other women around him. So, why does he need those two wenches?

I've read the raws up to chap 196. I give it 4/5 because it's a little different from the usual.

-- A little different from other xianxia stories, as the MC took over the body of a ret*rd king instead of a ctr*sh clan member.
-- I like the twist with Diablo 2' game world and abilities. More mysterious things about it to come later.
-- MC is good at using the little things he knows. He can make decent plans inspired from things he's seen or read in his previous... more>> world, unlike other xianxias where the transported guys completly forget everythings about their former world as if they never lived there to begin with.

-- Still not enough infos about the cultivation and the strenght rankings. Just a bit is given each time an enemy appear, which mean we remain largely ignorant even after so many chapters
-- A few cases of the right ability/items gained just before the event where it proves to be necessary
-- Main girl is the typical beautiful pure hearted girl. Nothing aside from that... Yet. At least she wants to improve herself instead of remaining a decoration for the MC <<less

Waffle has arrived to leave a review again. This one won’t be drawn out since the series is just starting up, but so far I just have two things to say:

1. This novel is (so far) amazing, and you should probably read it.

2. Translators... How you even manage to translate this novel to such a high standard even with the foreign Diablo terms simply confuses me... but regardless, you guys do the best damn job I’ve seen so far out of translations. Fast releases and good grammar; simply godsend.

Take some... more>> waffles with you when you go read it. <<less

Hail the King is a weird Isekai where an ordinary student dies and reincarnates into the body of the ret*rded King Alexander, in an absurdly large fantasy world. This simple setup becomes a lot more absurd when he's able to unconsciously slip into the actual Diablo 2 Gameworld, to gain power & items that can somehow transfer over to the body of Alexander. Honestly if it wasn't for the prospect of some adequate Kingdom Building, I'd have stopped reading then and there. Unfortunately that aspect of the novel feels diluted... more>> by the fact that this is basically; 2 completely different stories, with 2 separate power systems, being forcibly merged into an engaging Frankenstein of a story.

And I don't know if it's the fault of the author or translator but the MC comes across as immature, with his dialogue and romantic interactions. But there's no ambiguity with the author's fault in making all villainous characters out of the same annoyingly vile sheet of cardboard. At least some of the side characters remain relevant, right up til the inner conflicts between European Football teams and the final race wars. <<less

14 chapter in, and I can already see the vibe of CN where female always put on pedestal, and always have some arrogant character that would come in to say MC is not worthy of the beauty, and everyone all lust after beauty, and bring trouble that way. 14 chapter in, and 2 ppl already shown to lust after female lead.

I don't think this is worthy of being a kingdom building genre whare relationship is only at the minimal, and politic play important role at all.

and If you also hate... more>> s*upid and useless female character that always tr*shtalk MC and author still try to make them look good, then don't read this. <<less

If you can get over the ridiculously dumb naming sense of the author this is a very decent read.. I mean I am not a chinese novel expert but I never completed a novel that has this many chapters because I get bored easily but I completed this one.. All in all this is a very entertaining read. If you are in for relaxed power fantasy reads this is a recommended from me.

The story is overall good, no cap, BUT, the reason people gave low rating is uncreative naming, and it feels like the novel it self is actually a fanfic, a diablo 2 fanfic, the cringeness in this novel is a little bit unbearable, but it's matching with the epicness of the battle, the battle in this novel is what pump me up, I cant stop reading the novel but the biggest flaw in this novel is actually the naming sense, honestly who the f*ck named an empire as a football... more>> (soccer) club, and the main trump of the empire is the main trump of the footbal (soccer) club, example barcelona empire have lionel messi as their fighter, honestly wtf <<less

I'm at a bit of a loss with whether or not I should recommend this. It is a fanfic and the writing quality is mediocre. But the story itself is decent. It borrows heavily from other stories but I actually enjoy it as long as I skim through the fanfic nonsense.

If you like fanfic and the tags, give this a shot. If you want an original story that can stand on its own, you might like this but I doubt it. Because that is the big flaw here. This is... more>> an isekai reincarnation story and the author seems to want powers from Diablo 2, so he just lets the MC hop between the two. Admittedly, it makes just as much sense to hop to 2 imaginary worlds as to hop to 1, but it is done in a lazy way.

edit: I wound up reading this complete story and while I'm keeping it at a 3, I take back my words about this story not standing on its own. The author actually did a good job of coming up with an interesting world and story. The fanfic stuff stays pretty heavy though, and I found it kind of disruptive to have empires with the names of soccer teams and characters who are clearly inspired by other fictional characters. If you stick with it, the story becomes better than it is at first. But rather than this being barely a 3, I am almost tempted to give it a 4. But with the annoying copying of other intellectual properties and all of the unresolved plot threads, I am leaving this at 3. <<less

I gave it 3 stars since it referenced Diablo 2, one of my favorite games ever, and had a decent story.

This novel was entertaining but is plagued with the usual sloppy writing of an amateur writer with no editor.
The author introduces characters only for us to waste time reading about them because they are later forgotten.
The diagram of the cultivation/power system felt really lackluster and at times inconsistent.
The ending is rushed, and although it wasn't a terrible ending that ruins the whole novel, it definitely left a... more>> lot to be desired.

This is a novel you read if you have nothing better to read at the moment. <<less

It starts off as a semi decent kingdom builder, and you would expect kingdom building to remain a major component throughout the story considering "king" is literally in the title right? No, after the first 100 chapters or so his kingdom just becomes a plot device the author uses to give the MC more excuses to go kill things. Also it seems like it tries to pretend its not a xianxia even though it falls for every xianxia trope and cliche in existance. Half of the tags for this story... more>> only come up in like a single chapter (2 or 3 if you are lucky) out of the thousand or so and are never spoken of again.

TLDR: If you like xianxias you might like it, do not read it for any other reason, its not worth it. <<less

The story is interesting as it muces the cultivation with video games. The overall story is good, although there are several plotholes. For example the time frame is extremely short, as something which normally takes decade was done in only months. Things and persns are forgotten, facts are stated wrongly several times, unfilled need for revenge etc.
Spoiler

One example is the earth with no environment for cultivation suddenly start tochange to a cultivation environment in 15 days. Further, earthlungs gi from a healthy non-martial warrior to a 5 star warrior in only 5 days. On the other world, azeroth, where cultivation is nirmal, this takes at least months.

[collapse]

I do hate that the author spends around 100 chapters towards the end on a war the MC does not participate in, and is only dragged this long to get some kind of emotional reaction frim the reader. However, I personally think it is too long, and this drasticallynslows the story down.

The ending is a little bit rushed, but still better than most other novels.

The MC is overall intelligent, but does have several dumb moments. The other persons around the MC also have some personal growth.

The story could use some editing to make the story more cphesive and flow better.

the translation is good, but not excellent (i guess 4 out of 5). No glaring grammatical errors, hard to understand text, machine translation like text etc. However, the choice of some words drags this from 5 to 4.5. For example, the word ‘herald legion’ is used instead of vanguard, ‘samurai’ is also used where warrior or maryial artist would have been a better choice, missing some ‘not’ etc. <<less
