There is absolutely nothing unique about this story or it’s protagonist the guy is like your typical naive Isekai protagonist except he is somehow even more s*upid than them. So far the only semi decent thing about the series are it’s harem members and they are cute but that’s about it if you are looking for a nice change of pace from other series that take place in similar settings look somewhere else. On the other hand if you want to read about a naive beta protagonist saying lines that... more>> make you want to face palm or bang your head against the wall this is for you. By the way do not go into this novel expecting a harem ending it’s going the single woman route. <<less

I think so far this one deserves a solid "meh" all around.

I guess I'll start with the translation. It's mostly understandable without too much effort. That's about the best I can say about it. It's, you know... meh. There's a number of issues that pop up, but you can mostly figure it out. However occasionally you'll get one of those highly ambiguous sorts of conversations where nothing much is exactly said but there's a lot of brief implications and single words that trail off and when that happens you just... more>> have to scrounge up a main point or two and give up on the rest. It's not the first novel to have trouble with those kinds of conversations. So far there have only been a couple, so it's not that big of a deal.

In general the novel itself just feels like it's not been thought through very much. While there is an overall setting and situation and all that, the way things have worked out just doesn't make sense. Magicians awaken some kind of spirit, and it can be virtually anything. However in this setting only those with direct elemental spirits are viewed as worth anything. And it's pretty pick over all. Our MC with plants is "worthless" as are his friends with air and rock spirits. If only his friends were wind and earth, then they would be useful! At least according to common sense in that world. Yet given the huge variety of options, and how you can be so close yet so far... and the whole system seems very setup for the "useful" people. So apparently most people get one of a few spirits, despite virtually anything being possible? It's not clear. I suspect the freedom for any spirit was appealing, and at the same time the author was set on the MC being a tr*sh. I don't think any more thought went into it. The same goes for how so many spirits are utterly worthless. There's a lot of tripe about it being because the only concern is battlefield prowess, but it's also immediately obvious how silly that thought is. Counter-examples should be so prevalent that the so-called "common sense" seems unlikely to exist.

And the same goes for so many things. One chapter had a surprise siege tower show up. MC was staying in a border fort, and he and a couple army higher-ups went off one morning, and when they came back in the afternoon a freaking siege tower had shown up out of nowhere and was advancing on the fort. Who knew siege towers were so sneaky? I could go on, and on. Things are presented coherently, so you can follow it and get a sense of things. But most of it just doesn't really come together if you give it any kind of thought. So... another meh for me.

The MC is also basically all about country and comrade. There's nothing else. It's rather nationalistic. Nowhere near enough has been said to really draw any parallels with the real world so on that front it shouldn't be an issue. But if you want a cynical or critical MC, this is not the story. There's honestly not much else to really say about him... so. Yeah.

So far I'm missing the reason to really keep going. I haven't seen anything so terrible I'd drop it just for that, but that's the most I can say. I'm going to keep reading for now and see if the relationships are worth staying for. <<less
