I'm a translator of this story and I like it very much. It is a story of second chances and wife chasing crematorium. What is written in summary actually happens before the start of the story. The facts are like this: mansions of the Qi family and the Xia family are located side by side. Many years ago the Xia family framed the Qi family, and the only family member who survived was Qi Yan. When he returns to get his revenge, he gets to know Xia Xun, the youngest,... more>> unloved son of the Xia family. But the revenge plan cannot be stopped, the Xia family is eliminated, except for Xia Xun and his eldest brother who are sent to exile. In exile they fake their death to escape and Qi Yan finds out that Xia Xun is alive only seven years later.

He forces him to go back to the capital with him, blackmailing him to reveal his brother's identity. In truth, he hopes to reunite with Xia Xun and get back to the feelings they had seven years ago. But how can it be possible? That's where the story starts.

There is no doubt the ML, Qi Yan, loves Xia Xun desperately. Even though he doesn't say it, his love is apparent in his every action, every gesture, every unsaid word. But the tragedy of the past and the horrible things Xia Xun had to go through because of Qi Yan's actions are like an abyss between them and this abyss can't be crossed by some coaxing and doing some nice things.

Xia Xun, the MC, is really amazing. He is not a weak, defenceless shou. He is so strong you can't help but respect him. He is also somewhat naive. He thinks it was his naivety that made him a prey to Qi Yan seven years ago and he is very determined not to repeat his mistakes. But it also makes him blind to how much Qi Yan loves him.

The story is very intense. There is some court intrigue plot but it is mostly just the outline for the relationship between the main characters. Every scene between them is explosive. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. There is HE. There is also NO non-con or dub-con, which made me extremely happy. There are some flashbacks closer to the end but they are concise and not boring, necessary to figure out what happened. <<less

This novel is the reason I wreck my brain trying to make an account in gongzi cp and it's well worth it.

The reason I like this novel is because they have my favorite troupe

    • Wife chasing crematorium
    • Gentle and loving gong
Qi Yan the gong have every bit of reason to do what he did to the shou, and the shou Xia Xun also entirely qualified to feel what he feel. I love every heartaches and suffering the gong experience after he losed his loved one. Their chemistry are top tier. I also love how the story doesn't drag too much.

For some people the plot might have been a little bland and flat, doesn't hv too much intrigue and perhaps might think this novel is a little boring, but I still love it !

Thanks for the translator for picking this novel, time to reread this novel with proper translation

I love crematoriums; I love them so much that I'm ready to read them all day long, finish one book and start reading another :) And there are things I particularly like in crematoriums. (1) No lenghty abuse. The MC can suffer for a long time from the ML's abuse but I don't want to read chapters and chapters and chapters about it. A couple of chapters in the beginning and some flashbacks here and there are usually more than enough for me. (2) An unrelenting MC. The MC should... more>> really make the ML work hard to earn his forgiveness, without giving in too easily, or going back and forth, sometimes accepting the ML, sometimes rejecting. (3) Is not necessary, but I just like it this way. I like when the ML is not really scum. He might have secret reasons for doing what he did, or might be misunderstood by the MC; anyway, the things are different from they seem to be in the beginning.

This story has everything I love about crematoriums. It starts straight out with the crematorium. The MC is really strong. And the ML is not scum. I actually read it twice. The first time I was veeeery much on the MC's side (I'm usually very shou-protective when I read; that is, I always eye the gong supiciously checking if he is going to hurt my precious cinnamon roll shou :)) So, I rejoiced seeing the ML's obvious suffering. Right, he loves the MC, it's clear, but he did do all those things that hurt the MC so much, so what does he want now, f*cking hypocrite. Then I finished reading the story and I knew everything, I knew how the ML really had no other way and, especially, in what abject misery he lived those seven years without the MC. I read it again, now wholeheartedly feeling sorry for the ML.

But I really love them both very much. They both will take place in my heart. Together with Yuzhu, the heroic dog (agh, I'm crying again just writing this name). <<less

to describe this novel with only one word: INTENSE. Everything that happens, everything they say or do is so damn INTENSE. In an extremely enjoyable way.

it's been a long time since I felt this much reading a novel. Personally, I think it hit some sort of reverse scale of mine and I felt like burning away while reading.

on the topic of the plot. It's extremely well done. The translation too. Both are very smooth, and I finished reading this book in basically one sitting.

the characters are relatable and their motives... more>> logical, the disasters they go through feel inevitable, and the happiness at the end is equally sweet. I think it's reasonable to say that this is one of the best novels I've ever read. <<less

Ohhh damn!!!!

Have to say it deserves a full 5 star rating, there's no point in reducing even one.

ufff it straight went into my heart and I probably will remember it for a very long time.

... more>> It just felt so real, like I personally knew them and had seen them suffering in pain, uff it hurts so muchh ಥ_ಥ

I didn't actually read the tag before starting it, do didn't see the tragic part one and the historical genre. It's not that I am not a fan of historic it's just I was not in the mood to read one now. So I went through it's reviews and do insanely good review and got a general idea about the story and was instantly hooked.

Trust me I don't regret reading the story it's just the amount of angst my heart barely took it, I felt dull pain while reading it.

When I generally read an angst, tragedy novel I have to prepare my heart in advance for the heartache uff. While reading it I felt my heart stopped beating.

It's really a beautiful yet painful story, so well written and with story line.

The love between MC and ML was too much to me. They clearly loved each other but the insane amount of pain they had to go in between, it was heartwrenching.(┬┬_┬┬)

MC in his early years was so pure, innocent, naive, so softhearted and loving but he had to go soo much difficulties and pain. He had a horrendous and chilling past, the way his family had just indifference and disgust for him. And later due to his hate for ML he kept on going, and did not forgive till last, he was ruthless to ML and even more to himself.

And ML was even more pitiful than MC, he clearly loved MC way too much but he let MC misunderstood him till the last and didn't explain much. His past was also chilling, all he wanted was revenge and found himself in love with MC. He tried to protect MC with all his might but still couldn't and he was still suffer till end.

Neither MC nor ML was wrong in the steps they took, it was just their fate that played with them. Thank god it had a happy ending or either I would be crying buckets. And their dog ohhh I cried a lot for him.

I just wanted to read a bit more extras about them, just sooo I could heal my broken heart.

Anyway it was an amazing story, I would greatly recommend it to everyone of u.

Thanku author and translators @YunYun1 the amount of hard work it was ami and I am thankful for the amount to effort u out into it. <<less

A proper, honest wife chasing crematorium, no more and no less. Are there better crematorium? Yes. Are there worse and much worse? Yes. If it is a single crematorium you are going to read in your life, you probably should choose another one. If you like this genre and enjoy reading it as much as possible, this one is not to be skipped.

The shou is strong-minded, stubborn and naive. He doesn’t give in to the gong's chasing for a very, very long time. The scene in the first chapter happens... more>> six months after the gong forces the shou to come to the capital with him, and the shou still sticks the knife into him. As for whether the shou is really so unfeeling, that's another question.

The gong is utterly tragic. It takes a long time to reveal the whole picture, so there is enough time to hate him and gloat on his misfortunes. I have to admit I felt some remorse later because the gong is really a victim of fate. It's very easy to judge him if you switch off your empathy; but once you ask yourself what you would do, what you could do in his situation, what different answer can there be?

There are also very good female characters, three of them, and every one of them is strong, decisive and makes her own choices. <<less

Beautiful in every way. I had so many feelings when reading it. The plot and the emotions are intense beyond words. It was even hard to take breaks while reading it. At least it's not long, I read it in two days but it can be even read in one.

I really like the MC. He is such a darling, I wished the whole world for him. He is sincere, strong, naive and kind. He tries to appear cold but he has so much compassion in his heart, not only towards... more>> the ML, and even mostly not towards the ML. An admirable character.

I noticed some very harsh opinions about the ML and it really baffles me. Too lazy to bother with spoilers, but the ML is really not so bad as some reviews make him sound. In other words, he is not so guilty as he seems to be. The things were out of his hands long before he even met the MC. I loved to hate the ML for most of the book, then I somewhat felt sorry for him, then I was surprised... in the end I was fine with them getting together.

Anyway, I'd probably be okay with some other ML as well, just because the MC is so awesome, I liked him so much. <<less

Cried so much reading this story. MC is pitiful, but ML is way more too pitiful. They actually did nothing wrong but had to suffer so much.

It's a HE (I do hope to read more about their lovely days tho)..

One of my favorite wife chasing crematorium yet! I've quite read a few novels of the wife chasing premise but this still remains memorable.

Some might not like the lack of communication but how can there be proper communication when there is a lack of trust in the first place. The leads separated on bad terms and after seven years, all the hurt and grievance the MC suffered finally have an outlet to vent. It was long overdue and would inevitably be messy. As a somewhat vengeful person I enjoyed how... more>> the MC made things difficult for the ML, albeit rather dramatic.

The ML is quite my type, the kind that is gentle and doting but yandere at the same time 😂. There is no doubt about his love for the MC. Though he might have been a bit too positive about his plans. At least I don't know what the ML expect from the MC after causing the downfall of his family. The ML definitely have his reasons and it was justifiable so I still liked him in the end.

A part of me was still not fully ready to forgive the ML but this part at the end convinced me.

Spoiler

"He thought suddenly that, in fact, everyone had changed.

...

Only Qi Yan had not changed.

He stayed in the gap of time, letting the torrents of the sea rush past. With his love and longing for Xia Xun, he stayed in the same place forever, and he would never take a step away in this life."

[collapse]

For a novel with less than 60 chapters, the author managed to pack in a lot of feelings. It was angsty enough but they still made the ML redeemable. The flashbacks are important and hid a lot of knifes especially when comparing the wholehearted trust the MC gave the ML in the past to their present hostile state.

With that said, I would've liked if there were more extras considering how it's only until the last chapter that the MC reconciled with the ML.

I think the translator gave a pretty good explanation of this novel so do check out their review. Like always the translation is amazing, thank you! <<less

This novel is very intense, fast-paced and full of passion. The first scene sets the tone for it. I normally don't like this kind of composition, when a novel starts with a "teaser" and then goes back to explain how it got there. At least this one didn't go back seven years ago and didn't tell us what we already know. I'm glad I decided to give it a chance, I was not disappointed. The MC and the ML together were explosive. The "chasing the wife" was real. Come to... more>> think about it, the ML is the pitiful one, he really had nothing for all these years. But it'll take you the whole story to realize it. The MC is both naive and strong, and I respected him very much.

One more thing that I really loved was strong female characters. One destiny is particularly striking, in a good way. Also, the dog; so precious, I'm in love. <<less

It's was ok. Interesting enough for me to want to finish it. But I think it's because I just don't like the going back and forth from present to past. At the beginning I was so annoyed that MC was so mean to ML but at the end after I learned what happened from his perspective I can see why. I just wish there was more sweet moments between them in the present.

10/10 translation, 0/10 ML. The sort of man that thinks that his feelings and wants are the centre of the universe - there's a lot of noncon touching and kissing during the wife chasing, he doesn't respect boundaries at all. MC tries to hit him and even cut him to get him to stop by resorts to literally self harming before ML lets him go. Honestly ML brought everything upon himself with his inability to communicate.

MC is great. He grew up with a lot of hardship and managed to survive... more>> through adverse conditions. I got angry every time ML tried to treat him like their teenaged selves instead of acknowledging what MC has gone through and how they've both changed. A good novel for those love conquers all types, not great for anyone that thinks that love and respect should go hand in hand. <<less

I do like separation/reunion stories, esp if the MC was thought of as dead.

But I was somewhat disappointed with how very predictable this one was. The pacing was difficult to get into as everything was a huge flashback and flashbacks continued every other chapter.

The story probably would have been better and kept a lot of the tension if the author had just told it straight from the beginning. Allow the reader to feel the betrayal and the angst better before the reunion.

Some other rebirth/second chance stories (like Obsessive Shou Moves On) utilize flashbacks to increase the tension and also have similar MCs who are so disappointed in the ML that they don't want to hear any reasoning and don't care anymore, but they're handled better than in this one.

Spoiler

The author wrote the MC in this one constantly questioning why the ML didn't marry, completely ignoring the contraction that A) he was the one who refused to listen to the ML's explanation. B) The ML had no reason to lie to him 7 years later about the events from that time long ago.

[collapse]

With that in mind, the story felt too contrived and illogical with the misunderstandings that dragged on to the last chapter.

Overall, not a very original story, it follows exactly the trajectory one would expect with any betrayal/fake death/second chance/historical stories.

Translation was excellent. <<less

This is the part where I can say it’s a good book but one that I won’t come back again.

The pain, the misunderstanding. I can understand what the ML did to MC, but at the same time I can’t.

in my naivety, I think there are other ways that the ML could do, but at the end, he still chose this way. I agree with one of the reviewers said. It could be good with few more extras.

at the same time, I think the author wants us to still have the... more>> bittersweet feeling?

anyway, I really love the translation team. All their works are my fav so far. Going to read another one again <<less

ok, ML planned to save MC but what about MC's servant (and dog! It came to the ML house by itself if not it would be long dead) ? Has anyone thought of that girl? If not for the lucky chance she would be dead, and ML did not even think of her even though he had known her well and knew MC cared about her. So he kinda tried to save MC but he did not care about other innocents whom MC loved

[collapse]

So I still do not like ML despite all his excuses. He deserved all his suffering.

Bit more of a 3.5 star.

I will still try to complete this, but it's been a hard read for me. Really slow... to much 'Oh yea totally knew you were doing that' with a response of 'Yea I knew you knew', etc.

Iono spoilers maybe?
Spoiler

I know the ML had his reasons but the whole 'I expected things to return to how they were before!' thought is also really annoying imo. Even if the MC wasn't close to his family, you destroyed his life and he was exiled! And you plan to do the same to another family with an innocent daughter going to be caught in the mix. (haven't gotten to the actual destroying of the family, but the ML is 100% repeating history, just minus the fall in love part.) '

[collapse]

I normally like the whole 'have to work hard to get guy to like me back after messing up something in their life' plot, but this one was just... lack-luster?

I find this okay, I skip most of chapters. Personally I think it would be more interesting If it is in a modern timeline. But whatever. I find it interesting how most of yall are blaming only the Ml. I get that he was ruthless but he suffered too. I hate the beginning of the story I wish the author would start the story while the ML was in a poor state thinking that the MC is dead, I want to see him search desperately for the MC.

A lot yall... more>> are going to be enrage after reading this........ I find the character of the MC a little bit annoying.🙂 I said what I said. I hate MCs who dont want to listen or who never give ML a chance for explanation until its too late to do anything. And why is he angry that ML killed his family, the family who treated him like tr*sh throughout his life. And ML suffered a lot because of the mc's family why didnt he see ML pov. Maybe I missed something because as I mentioned I did skip most chapters.

I like how the ML is written in this story, how he end up in that state and how he suffered. He's not like those typical tr*sh ML who are poorly written in some novels. (but there are times that I like to read stories with this kind of ML you know a little bit of angst.....i know its kinda complicated. And there are time that I need something interesting and s*upid)

You dont have to agree with me on this. If you dont like my small opinion you can just simply scroll away. Dont just take my word, go read and judge it yourself. It depends on your taste whether you like it or not. <<less

BEWARE of SPOILER

Reading it a second time gave it a different feeling. I did not even notice that tears were flowing down my cheeks.

Qi Yan (ML) had a sad background. His family was scheme upon and the previous Emperor was in cahoot with the main perpetrator. After the new Emperor came into power, the perpetrator's power was undeniable. It may even jeopardize his power as the Emperor. After investigation, it was proved that Qi's family did nothing wrong and the family was pardoned. But, the only living member of the... more>> family was Qi Yan. With the Emperor's backing, Qi Yan started investigating the perpetrator's insidious actions. And during that investigation, he met Xia Xun (MC)

Xia Xun also had a sad background. His mother was a concubine from a humble background and he wasn't accepted by the Xia family. The only good person in the family was his eldest sister-in-law. A chance to meet with Qi Yan gave a new meaning to life for him. He falls hard for Qi Yan even though not realizing it at the time. All he knew was that he wanted to share all the best things in the world with Qi Yan although he, himself had nothing much to offer.

A decree by the Emperor led to a disaster for the Xia family and the one in the lead to execute it was Qi Yan. Xia Xun was horrified. He was clueless and brokenhearted. He lost his soul that day. There was no more meaning to live. But, he persevered for his eldest brother, the only living family member he had left. 7 years later, Qi Yan and Xia Xun met again which led to the start of the story.

I had a love-hate view of Qi Yan. Comparing both him and Xia Xun, it was obvious Xia Xun had it harder. And he also had the revelation towards the end of the story.
Spoiler

For Xia Xun to finally forgive and accept him, was like the biggest salvation.

[collapse]
Xia Xun was his bottom line. And whatever made Xia Xun happy was also what made him happy. The last chapter showed that Qi Yun still had some opinions when it came to Xia Xun's action but, he never voiced it out. There was nothing that Xia Xun do that could anger him. And we as readers, could see that Xia Xun had the power in the relationship. <<less

A personal 3.5/5 (rounded up to 4) stars.

Honestly, the story is quite nice but not my cup of tea. I do like both the MC and ML. My favorite chapter by far is the last one. It really shows how some things stay constant in life, but the majority of things will change.

I was expecting something a bit more... angst though? I didn't like the flashbacks later on but I can see why people would. As someone mentioned, it was very predictable. Not a waste of time if you want... more>> a historical read with angst, nice side characters, and seeing the weight of one's choices.

Spoiler

also if you like seeing the ML get injured a lot LOL.
