I met Yan Kongshan the summer after college entrance exams on Green Plum Island. Mysterious and handsome, with a tinge of melancholy, he was the ideal man of every woman on the island. And mine.

This is such a well written story that I feel like it should win critics choice Awards as a coming of age queer novel and deserves worldwide recognition. The manhua adaptation is in bad taste tho. Kudos to the translation team for such a great work, honestly a very smooth translation.

This one is on my bookmark for more than a yr ig at first I read some reviews about ML have one night stands and all and for me its a big nooo and today I picked up but it does mention those things but not to that level of bcmng uncomfortable and overall story is gooood and our MC is also so good

A fantastic reading experience!

At first when I just started reading this story, I never imagined that I will be so immersed in this. The flow of the story was really nice. I felt their love, the warmth they shared, each happiness and sadness. The writing style makes you feel all sort of emotions. I really love this story so much.

Highly recommend!

In terms of vibes and writing, this is a very different story from other danmei novels. I adore the overall atmosphere created by this novel, with hints of melancholy, nostalgia, and freshness sprinkled throughout. I also like how, instead of the third person point of view that most danmei novels use, the author of this story uses the first person. I felt a little strange at first because I was so used to the former, but not even 2 paragraphs in the first chapter, I already thanked the author in... more>> my heart for using the latter because it's such a small yet significant detail that complements the story and fits the tones well.

The main character is both soft and bold, and he is the one who falls first and chases the male lead. As stated in the summary, he can see the mood index values of others as well as the color that represents their current mood. Initially, he only desired that the male lead turn yellow for him, but he later decided that this was insufficient and desired that the male lead also turn pink for him. The dedication and courage he displayed in courting the male lead is admirable, given that the male lead had many barriers around his heart and was determined to remain single for personal reasons.

The love interest is mature, steady, and aloof. He's 9 years older than the main character, so it's understandable that he's hesitant to date him at first. He also had a bad experience with his previous lover, so he didn't believe in love after they broke up and was adamant that he would never date again. Fortunately, the main character was able to win him over in the end.

They're adorable together, and their chemistry is fantastic. I like how, despite being the youngest between the two of them and being quite naive, the main character can also be mature and calm at times. And once fallen in love, the male lead is also very clingy and childish.

Though I must admit that I was initially skeptical of the male lead's feelings for the main character. Don't get me wrong, he loves him, but it felt like he didn't like the main character as much as the main character liked him, the kind of feeling where he would prefer anything else over the main character. But I'm glad the final few chapters of the main story and the extras proved me VERY wrong, because you can see how much he loves him and how equal their love is. Where one cannot exist without the other.

The side characters felt real, and you could actually imagine them rather than just vague shadows of people, they greatly contributed to the story's atmosphere and aided both the main character and the male lead in their lives. Without them, neither of them would be their current selves, nor would they have met. Similarly, Green Plum Island also felt so real that you could visualize what it looks like.

Overall, this is a very characterically emotional novel with both angst and fluff moments. Highly recommended. <<less

The summary sounded really interesting so I started reading the novel. The beginning was kinda dull but when the MC finally starts stepping up his game and becomes really active in pursuing the ML, it gets interesting. After they get together, it is yet again followed by dullness.

Overall it's a cute and fluffy read filled with slice of life but it's a bit dull for me. Nothing big really happens. Life just continues.

I put off reading this novel for quite some time, but once I started I couldn’t stop. It’s a very sweet story with beautiful imagery and a slightly nostalgic feel. The translation is wonderful and does a great job capturing the essence of a summer romance. The characters and relationships are so sweet and enjoyable. Definitely recommend reading this story!

Dunno about this.... Despite the MC's having an ability, he seems pretty Idiotic. For example...

There's a scenario where the MC sense already that the ML is already angry about a man. After that, why do you even have to ask about that topic? Why did he even probe it?

this is definitely going into my favourite and dear to my heart novels list. ill be coming back to reread once in a while...

its a perfect blend of sweet and a little bit of sour with few bumps in the road. Its sort of mild and mellow with a comfortable pace, but not bland at all.

there were moments that made me tear up and lots of moments that made me squeal and swing my legs irl. >< its also the perfect length... not too long but not too short. and... more>> its very to the point without too much dragging on the emotions or events. the flow is natural and comfortable to follow along with.

the characters are all so loveable and kind, and so 3d.

i loved reading along and being able to see a small window of their lives... I feel so lucky that I was able to stumble upon a little treasure like this. <<less

I cant explain what I felt, it was just simple so simple. I makes me believe in love.

This novel has my heart. One of the best novels written, And my top most favourite no one can replace.

I think the purpose of his synesthesia is to find a one true love, only when he found one can it be cured. I'm so happy how this novel turned out. I've been stressed lately because of school and reading novels that are stressing.

They're definitely in the modern (right?) era, but when they are from each other ('cuz MC is studying in a university far from the island) they don't use phones for showing intimacy (they do but) they use the old way, writing letters!

AHHHHHH I LOVE THIS STORY SOOOO MUCHHHH!! If you're looking for a slice of life and just a laid-back story with well-rounded characters then this is for you!! I just love how each and every character is alive and it feels like I'm also experiencing the story itself because of the great weaving of the story as well as the great work of translators. A must read!!! ❤️

I honestly don't know how I feel about this novel and characters, but I was extremely invested in the story, reading it all in a day, and I smiled a lot so it gets a 4.

There was something that was slightly off, there was a couple times I was extremely annoyed at the story, but I can't exactly tell about what. At first I didn't like the first person writing but it grew on me. Sometimes I disliked the MC and other times the ML. I don't know, just confused... more>> on how this story felt. Also agree with another reviewer that the 5 year didn't act like a 5 year old at all. Even saying she is extremely mature doesn't make up for it. Might have believed it using story logic IF the author said she was 8 or 9 but not 5 year old preschooler. <<less

Ahhhhhhhh this novel really gives a lot of sweetness.

The translation is very good and the characterization is believable and relatable. Also the conflict (ML family, ML & MC age-gap) is quite realistic imo.

I couldn't put it down and binge read the whole thing in one sitting. It starts off a little slow (it's slice of life after all~) but give it a chance and you'll get a toothache from the sweetness.

I especially love the MC grandpa & grandma they're so sweet and supportive.

Overall a cute, fluffy and romantic read! 10/10!!!!

The story is solid and the characters have depth and the relationship is fleshed out. The beauty lies in its simplicity, it's a mature and realistic romance story done well. Overall solid. The reason it gets a 4 is because of this, and bc I'd feel bad if I dragged its rating down too much because it is very well written. Why the the MC never even mention his synthesia to the ML? Even at the end he doesn't adress that at all despite it being a theme throughout their relationship. It kinds of just went away? Not really properly explored. Also, the thing with MC's old ex-friend, it would have been nice to maybe see if he was actually gay in the end and how he ended up? I don't think that was covered enough, idk. Also I don't think MC parents were discussed that much by the end? The ending was fine but I just prefer endings that tie everything up skillfully. Like my english teacher used to say, if you write about a gun in the first chapter, that gun should go off by the end of the story.

Also, there is a 9 year age gap. The ML is very considerate of the MC and does not abuse this (in fact struggles over it). ML also has all the charm of a mature adult, which is refreshing. Also, MC is 18 so both are adults. However, I'm not a huge fan of the age gap thing, and the fact that I could get through actually this speaks to how well it was written. They make a understandable pair, don't get me wrong, but it was a heavier/more frustrating story as the MC constantly had to prove he was mature enough to date the ML. More drama besides the age gap:

The ML is an uncle who's sister passed away and now he takes care of the child as a dad and gave up his career aspirations for that. He also doesn't believe in love (and is very cold to his female ho*kup partners) and it takes a LOT of convincing and pursuit from the MC to win him over. The MC is persistent if nothing else.

i love this! the translation was great as well as the story. furthermore, it has the right amount of everything. the novel was a quick read even if there are 50+ chapters. well, I think it was a quick read for me because I was immediately hooked (no boring chapters!!) and decided to read it whenever I can.

y'all should try reading this!

I'm wondering when will I have a handsome neighbor just like mr. yan... is this possible in the first place? lol

This was absolutely amazing. I have no words for how beautiful and perfect it was, and it's been a while since I read a BL Chinese novel and loved it so much. I'll probably re read this a thousand times and still not have enough.

An extremely sweet read to clean the soul. The plot isn’t particularly complicated but it brings a decent amount of depth to more difficult topics such as disability and sexuality.

Author wrote in a style that makes u feel like u are in green plum island, enjoying the scenery.

As for MC, he is a 16/17 years old teenager so he acts like one.

Looking at crush from afar, looking opportunities to get close to him and thinking about him every day and night. I saw some of the reviews saying his behaviors looks like a creepy stalker. Excuse Me? It's not true lah. Imo, I think he just wanna get close to his crush. I feel most of us will do the same although I will be not as brave as him.

Ml, to say in honesty, I don't like him at start but he did improve later. I would not spoil much.

As for side characters, caring grandpa, prevert best friend, cute little Yan. The side characters are lively and likeable.

It’s the kind of story that leaves its imprints in your memory. And whenever you think back to it, a smile accompanied by a warm fuzzy feeling materialises on your face.
The translation was alright, the story was well paced, the characters were memorable, and the fluff was EVERYTHING. There were so many moments throughout the novel that made me scream out loud from the overwhelming wholesomeness.
