Great Demon King

“If I don’t die… I swear I will act on all my evil thoughts..”

Not exactly everyone’s typical thought when they’re about to die. What will a cowardly young man do when reincarnated with the evil powers to redefine his destiny? Can the natural kindness of human nature triumph over evil? Will he become the cold-blooded demon king of legend, or will he forge his own path and rain down another kind of terror?

I dropped this today, I could not get through chapter 707.

I wouldn't say this LN is good per say, but entertaining until 600+ chapters. The beginning arc, it gets a bit hard to get through but since it is a fresh novel it isn't that bad. The middle chapters out of the 1000 are where the LN gets pretty decent. The world building, character development, and entertainment value is at it's peak during these chapters. However, be warned, once you get to the God Realm Arc, you will be disappointed.

Cage and Eve piss me off... this whole God Realm Arc makes the whole thing nose dive. These supposed Gods, can't think. MC has a lot of allies and can produce miraculous medicine but since MC is "only" lowgod he dares have an attitude...

These light CN are all melding into the same pot of low sizzling sh*t. Eventually even the good/decent ones all turn into posturing, negativity, and salt. How many times can these MCs deal with the same type of characters where they try to kill your family for dissing your pet dog? If the real world was like this, everyone would be mass murderers.

At this point I am considering dropping all light CN and never looking back. What is the point of a cultivation system if all the author uses it for is plot armor and posturing? <<less

5.0 This could be a 5 or a 1 depending on personal preferences. I liked it so its a 5. If you like Heavenly Jewel Change this is most definitely a 5. If you like WMW you will like this too. If you did not like them well let this novel is most likely a 1 for you. Here is a few words to describe the novel. There is one complaint, however. The MC become way too OP and there is not enough recall of his power to remember any... more>> of it. Also there is almost no power division. We do not know how strong he is at any point so far.

All in all, its a great novel (at least for me). <<less

I really like this story, it is well written and I can't wait to see how it will end. The idea of Xuanhuan MC in a world ruled by magic is rather unique and very cool.

I agree with Sidneyvan's post for the major of what he said but I have a different opinion on it.

In comparison to other novels, I find the author had a very good balance in his own focus of what is important to the story.

Might be spoilers: The author did abandon a few plot elements but if you look at it from a macro world perspective, it could have just a small part of the bigger picture that helped the cultivation on what was truly important, his own Demon Powers.

In regards... more>> to his harem

The author did abandon the plot of his wife's story as the story went on, which was unfortunate, but he did include them as a group which was important to keeping what the MC valued, which was family. MC did not abandon them for power or forgotten them as the story went on, but they were still relevant to the story.

The ending was alot empty than I thought it would be, could have turned into longer chapters, but alot of everything that was emphasised and built up in the story had their own small part story in the end, which you don't get to see very often.

/smallrant I remember a cultivation novel that was world building, with an army emphasis on friends, and how much on interaction between different parties and his friends. In the end, this novel made it into a "unknown power" level up MC that did not even mention the army or his friends in the ending, and turned into a one guy vs one evil guy ending.

Compared with that novel, and many more which had endings that ended with only MC and abandon everyone, or lost focus, this novel gave a satifactory ending. <<less

A really really good, unique and enjoyable story... until chapter 600 and so (first seven volumes). However, after he starts interacting with people from the God Continent and himself goes to the God Continent, everything gets boring. Super boring. And becomes a typical Xianxia novel. Can't even read anymore. So I definitely recommend the first seven volumes of this novel to be read! The later volumes? I don't know. Maybe it will get interesting later on, but I haven't read it, nor am I planning on reading anymore, so, don't know! ~

A light read with MC practicing an OP martial art, on top of being a strong necromancer.

Overall novel revolve around the MC making his way in the world, no massive drama or setback (as of now).

Sometimes you may find it funny, other time it's not that funny.

Except a lot of wives

An easy read if you are tired from the heavy drama/tragic stuff. As the journey so far is smooth.

PS: a lot of NSFW.

Great Demon King is written by the same author as God of Slaughter. Both MC's are cruel, perverted and shameless. There are many love interests, relationships can feel somewhat casual, and there are plenty of NSFW scenes, (and one non-con scene with a certain girl). Great Demon King is more toned down than God of Slaughter in terms of both violence and the perverted aspects. I personally prefer Great Demon King over the other. The MC here is evil and completely unapologetic about his actions and nature, with an... more>> "I do what I want" attitude.

This is especially the case as the novel goes on. In the beginning of the story, the MC is an underdog in a bad position, so that plus the fact that he was originally a normal person (with evil inner thoughts) in his past life means that for a while there he has to stay more low key. Once the MC starts gaining power he loosens the cap on his inner desires and becomes much more unbridled. I admit that I wasn't a big fan of the story for the first 40-60 chapters or so, but if you get past that part it gets more interesting as time goes on. I will say that the novel isn't a serious one, with a bit more comedy than you might initially expect, and the MC just kind of messes around at some points. If you want a more serious, really evil MC I'd say Leylin from WMW is much better.

The side characters' development is somewhat limited, so naturally even more of the story hinges on the MC and your personal feelings about him and his actions. In other words, if you read a bit and don't like the MC, or the violent or perverted scenes, you will probably struggle with the novel. If you enjoy the excessive violence and/or outright pervertedness, then you will likely find the novel enjoyable.

Because the MC's actions and character are more extreme, how you view the novel ends up being even more closely tied to personal preference than some other, more moderate novels.

I personally am not a big fan of romance, so the MC's casual attitude is a good thing, but on the other hand I feel like there are a few too many perverted scenes, and sometimes the MC comes across as a bit more childish or casual than I'd like. I admit to liking the violence though, and the magic aspect is quite interesting. I look forward to seeing how the MC develops in the future.

For me this novel is closer to 3 1/2 stars, but I'll just go ahead and put it at 4 for now. The translator is awesome and the release speed is good. It makes for a good casual sort of read. <<less

I've been greatly enjoying this story. If I was to compare it to any other novels at its current point would be Warlock of the Magus World (GDK much better so far) and maybe first half of Coiling Dragon. His powers are fairly unique (in general and in comparison to other stories). The biggest reason I like it is how his powers have some drawbacks. Unlike some other stories where there are none (warlock of the magus world). Now yes things fall into his lap like other stories, but it... more>> feels refreshing still. Maybe has to do with the world not sure why I feel this way still.

Again this is still the begining of the story so any flaws to the story have yet to surface. It's worth checking out to see if it floats your boat. <<less

I'll have to give this 3 stars. Please hear me out and I believe there's a lot of bad points we can't ignore in this Novel.

The Negatives:
The MC is incredibly selfish. He wants anything by any means necessary. It doesn't matter if its bad or good as long as he accomplish his goal. And he doesn't really "Love" Fanny but sees her as an object to relief his desires that he couldn't do in his previous life. The Power leveling realms doesn't make sense at all. There's no plot... more>> really. And no Character Development! If there's any there's one character, it would be Phoebe. Fanny really is a detestable character. She makes no sense at all. Honestly there will be a lot of moments you will be pissed off while reading this..

The Positives :
-I love the way the MC is conniving and always manage to get his enemies in trouble.
-I also really love Lisa and Phoebe as a character. Very outstanding personalities.
-Its certainly funny but Lisa makes it worth it.

If you're going to read this please be aware this MC is Evil. He is just as bad as the Villains in this story. Seeking power to be on top of the pyramid. There are times he is "Kind" but that's only when you bow and submit yourself to him. I am pretty disappointed because the Author doesn't put the other Characters to good use despite their potential! <<less

No need to wait for 95 as shuiko says. It's good from the start (I haven't read the raws, I'm up to ch 36). If you get over the first 2/3 chapters it starts building up nicely.

read up to c704

I really like it. Why? Writing is mediocre, plot is nothing special, start is slow, character progression is meh. Usually, I'd rate novel such as this with 2 stars. So why did I give it 4?

Well, the main character is great. His aliment would be chaotic neutral, he is OP (later on) but never invincible (but often gets deus ex machina saves) but most importantly he isn't some moral high virgin destiny seeking idiot. He builds a harem and he uses it. He doesn't fight stronger enemies... more>> because if he can avoid it. He tries to run away (sometimes successfully, sometimes not) if he is in danger. HE USES COMMON F*** SENSE!

First parts in academy may be a bit slow and boring, but I think it is worth a read if you are tired of your standard ****less righteous/revenge MCs but still like humor are not into anything too dark and serious. This really is a LIGHT novel for me. <<less

A very good Novel. Probably one of the best there are! One thing that really stands out IMO is the writing itself, its far from really high level writing found in fantasy books etc. But considering that most Novels are bad writen this one is above avarage.

I like pretty much everything about this novel, story, action, romance everything is great. The only problem are plot holls... A little bit to many.

One of my favorite Novels :)

The story too quite dynamic sometimes good, great, boring, good... as for the chara hmm~ its pretty well done, the female chara not instantly charmed by the MC and not easily ok to polygamy...

This will become a 4, 5 story IF NOT...........

for the divine realm above arc... cultivation bevome meaningless... harem member become invisible and bad final battle.... as for ending its GOOD if compare with other author story..

MaReview: The story starts amazingly, there are lots of sentiments moved by Bryan's life experience, love life is good and well described, but towards the end of the love story is like falling into a ravine, there is more about war and intrigue, fraud seems endless. What makes me bad about this writer is how thicc is the plot-armoring, like when suddenly in a tight situation Bryan explodes and gets the power of the OP (before: only dark and dead, after: there are 12 more elements) something like this hardly... more>> explained even if you have a PhD about Taoism and Xianxia. The world is depicted as being very small, the writer narrates about the continent but the story is always around the valley / city, there has never been a strange event (hey, god of the world, you know?), There are no planets or galaxies to increase this' definition is more like the name of a cultivation level. To summarize it is possible if this novel could end in chapter 2k but in a hurry, the author does not give each of the main protagonists their side story

I want to complain but what I have to say... the ending is bad but at the same time okay, compared to some other novels this could be heaven... ok I won't say anything about the whole book but instead complain about the fate of the temporary goddess no one mentioned him, even if he did all that so they could kill the goddess of creation, I was too disappointed in things like he misunderstood... he was not a good mother and his behavior was more disgusting than eccentric ppl, then MC came in and said 'sorry'.. aiyo I really hope he dies but dear ah how sorry the sky is not fair to me.. <<less

Dominant protagonist that takes what he wants without hesitation. If you like that sort of thing, and aren't repulsed by the ambiguity that may involve. This story is exactly for you. If you do find it repulsive, then well, you're clearly in the wrong place.

The story possesses apt characterisation, the protagonist evolves into his power, and in the process becomes a leader. When he does mature into a leader, when compared to his previous self, there's an enviable amount of difference. All good thankfully.

The greatest negative of this story must... more>> however be mentioned. The protagonist can make rather foolish decisions, with the hope in mind of later 'conquest'. Not of guilds, nations, or empires. But of women. It makes the protagonist seem excessively blinded at times. Imbecilic even.

Entertaining read. <<less

This novel lives up to the hype and intrigue that the initial reader has for it that is though only for the first half. As soon as he ascend it becomes what we have all read a dime a dozen in these Chinese Novel's, to the point where you can take a baby give them a template to write with and just give a stamp of "close enough" if they just decided to forgo writing and defecate on the paper. Such a shame this author has this problem to frequently... more>> as well even spirit realm is excellent around 3/4 but the last home stretch is just somewhat of a "wtf happened?". <<less

Well One word "Mediocre" I don't even know why it has high rating cn wn.

But one thing for sure. Because this is a wish fulfillment cn wn. I've seen and read bad to worst wn so far and the number increase again.

Why? The tag says our MC is "Cunning" smart ass but that "Cunning" part turns into a prankster. He was like a middle school student with cover up of plot protection while The others turns into a re****s. And slowly falls in love with him. Great just great. No... more>> wonder there's a doze of complaints from the early chapter.

I can understand those readers.

2 two reasons why there is so many readers can't keep up with this sh*tty wn.

First from the beginning of the chapter the translation sucks.

Self respect you all knew it is sucks.

And I tormented myself just by reading it.

Second the MC I don't care if he is a complete lair or devil but the thing is he is a prankster and worst part of it the plot of the story indicate everything he did was right as if 100% he will succeed. He has so many internal and external shield that already pooping up at the beginning of the chapters.

Which is so bland. I thought he will be a cruel person but turns into a master of pranks.

Well if you enjoy middle school re**** adventure go for it read it. <<less

I've dropped this one at 200 something chapter, can't remember accurately because it was about a year ago.

Main reason for that was - this is power trip type novel, but power rankings are sh*tty. MC killed 5 rank enemies when he was 2-3 rank himself. And then he get lvlup and lvlup and another lvlup... And still his enemies are 5 rank. And even after multiple lvlups with OP abilities and his rank 4 he still fights against 5 ranked enemies, even struggling sometimes. At last when he becomes 5... more>> rank he can fight 6 rankers! Only if they are countered by his abilities (like dark mages)... He supposed to be OP, get OP abilities, but he don't become really stronger, lol. It could be tolerated if it was plot based novel, but it is definitely not. There is no serious plot, MC just fight enemies, get abilities and items, romance girls and joke around. <<less

Warning: lots of NSFW scenes.

Even with super plot armor, heaven defying luck, super pets (or summons?) MC still cant keep his thing inside of his pants... and thats why his most troublesome issues is not his enemies but how to make peace with all his women without get castrated by any of em or their super families.

Fun to read in idle time.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, but the pacing was all over the place. I enjoyed the character interactions, but like most cn web novels I have read, many of the characters are just marginalized or completely non existent after their arc is over.

After he finally got to the god continent the story seemed really rushed, especially once he left the darkness domain. It started to feel more like a summery than an actual story. The author stopped showing events and interactions and more just told you what happened. The story pretty much stops showing any character interactions. Even worse was all the forced conflict. His greatest enemies always came from the people who should have been his allies, but for some random reason they decided to treat the MC like crap and make him an enemy. Furthermore, the MC always acted extremely ignorant... enough to make you question his intelligence, making the conflict seem forced. So many enemies could have been avoided with some simple actions on his part.

At the end when the final battle was approaching, I kept thinking that there is no way that there is only 3 chapters left to fight the final battle and wrap everything up. I was right, the final battle and wrap up were beyond rushed. It could have definitely used a few more chapters to flush it out. I, personally, never understand why authors rush an ending like this. To me, it just seems disrespectful to the effort that was put into the story and the readers. There are so many scenes I would have liked to have seen, but the epilogue was essentially like 2 sentences.

Regardless of how rushed the ending was, I still enjoyed the book, though the last 100 chapters or so took effort to finish. <<less
