Ye Xin was living her life as a diligent office worker when, after a bike accident, she found herself transported to a time where food was scarce and had also gained a skinny fiancé.

The original owner of her body was a young, weak, and ill-natured “educated youth” sent to the countryside. She was not well-liked and was currently in a dispute with her fiancé over breaking off their engagement… Ye Xin felt troubled, thinking, “What a mess!”

But she couldn’t return to her old world, so she had no choice but to adapt and survive.

First of all, she decided to stop arguing—her fiancé was handsome, hardworking, and quite capable. Secondly, she would use her golden finger (a mysterious power) to grow crops, earn food, and take good care of herself, while also helping her fiancé out. She was sixteen, he was seventeen, and they would eat their fill, grow taller, and their future would be full of possibilities.

Farm work in the countryside was tough. During the day, she was busy, and at night, the space she had access to was even busier. There was no way she could finish all the farming work. But the harvests were always rewarding: rice, vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs—more than they could ever eat.

The only thing she wasn’t happy about was that while she had only grown a few centimeters, her fiancé kept growing taller and more handsome… He was almost at the level of a male model! And the way he looked at her became less and less restrained.

“We’ve grown up, shouldn’t we get married now?” “I think… I can still grow a bit more…”

The once quiet, weak young man was now tall and strong, still cold in public, but when alone, he would bend down and gently coax his fiancé.

Okay so I'm only part way thru the story, and I just wanted to see the other reviews and give my own 2 cents.

The mc's personality is becoming quite insufferable in my opinion. Now that doesn't really excuse the questionable behavior of ML later on (as described by the other reviewers), but I feel like he's not completely to blame. She lives in his house, treats him like an oft ab*sed workhorse, and all the while talks down to him. Not to mention the fact that she constantly gaslights him... more>> about all the extra produce and things from her space.

Plus, not only does she talk down to the poor guy, she does it in front of other people. There's a scene where she's gossiping with a female educated youth that she barely knows and straight up tells her that the only reason she's still currently with him is because he has a house, a bicycle, and a pretty face. Then is non-apologetic about it when she discusses with him later. And there's another thing, every time he questions her about anything, she'll either verbally attack him or gaslight him to get him off the topic. She can be a constant b, but heaven forbid he get sulky and insecure once in a while, he's the one with a horrible personality, it could never be her... It's no wonder then why he's an emotionally stunted and vulnerable person. He's young, his father just died, he never had a mother, and he can sense that she's not always honest with him, but he puts up with it because he is desperately afraid of being alone again. She treats him like crap emotionally and resents even letting him hold her hand, despite the fact that they're engaged. She's emotionally distant. He has every reason to be insecure.

She's a very toxic individual. I don't understand why in some modern stories (chinese, korean, japanese, etc.), a common female character type is that they're sociopathic and utterly fixated on money. If a guy did that, he's an ahole, but when a girl does it she's a strong woman. Ugh.

Another thing, she also has repeatedly mentioned that she mainly interacts with people to create 'paths' for herself. She's not completely unempathetic, but in all reality she uses every person and thing that she encounters. And if she can't use them, she has zero patience for them. She's like a politician.

Anyway, the only reason I kept going is because I thought she would warm up to him but apparently she never will, except for possibly much later. I love the ml, though. It's a shame that authors always pair a quality clingy and obsessive ML with a character that doesn't intend to reciprocate. Just a shame. <<less

im really sorry to the translator to write this review, but I just wanted to comment on this novel because it bothered me. Namely, marital r*pe

i read this on the chinese raws so I cant comment on the quality of the translation, but I just think I should make it clear to the people reading it, that is is a CHINESE novel in some bad ways, and unfortunately that means some things which are unacceptable in the West.

most notably, despite this being a romance novel written by a women for... more>> women, and claiming to be feminist, it is quite accepting of misogyny and s*xual violence

the worst aspect of it is the romance. We can ignore the MC is an adult transmigrating into a child, who "trains" to her teen husband to be a wolfdog, because that's in a ton of novels. The Male MC is possessive, jealous, overly clingy, thinks the MC is unfaithful for 0 reason several times, only for the MC to get mad and then he chases her to apologize repeatedly. The same applies to intimacy. She doesn't want to kiss? The male MC forces her to kiss and then apologizes afterwards. She will be yelling to stop or crying, and its not coquettish at all, she genuinely doesn't want it, and he will grab her, pick her up, hug her, and kiss forcefully. He has given her red marks and bruises grabbing her. The MC wants to delay her marriage until after the college examination, but the male MC says no, you're 18 and you can marry and gets angry at her for "being unfair" and eventually she caves in and does it. She doesn't want to have s*x immediately, and the MC forces her and she acquiesces. During s*x, she doesn't feel good and wants him to stop, yells, hits him, says you're hurting me and what does the male MC do? He gets turned on, doesn't stop, "couldn't control himself", holds her tighter, and presses deeper.

are there cute romantic scenes? Yeah, but to me they are overshadowed by this

the side characters are also victims of gender based violence. One of the educated youth in the compound is a victim of stalking, and after several years of this not stopping, the female youth is unable to date anyone else because her reputation is ruined, the stalker interrupts her other dates, and her family is forcing her to go with the stalker. The MC sides with the stalker and says that devotion is the purest form of love, so even if she doesnt love him, its a suitable marriage. Eventually, that youth is convinced this is what her life will be like despite hating it and passively accepts his advances

a female educated youth has her medical information leaked by the male MC (who is a doctor) because she isn't a virg*n, so they tell her boyfriend this, as "he's a good guy" (he is not a good guy) and "doesn't deserve to be deceived"

the female MC sees little girls shes close to starving, friends locked in confinement in unsanitary conditions by abusive inlaws and treated poorly bc they gave birth to girls, and just sighs and says theres nothing I can do about this besides give them a snack every once in a while

overall, I think it was trying to be sticky sweet, but chinese culture just accepts things which are very unacceptable to the west, so this was really bad for me. <<less

To be honest I like the MC at the beginning of the story, but as the story goes on I really starting to dislike MC. Throughout the story I constantly waiting for the MC to finally come out and be honest toward the ML, but nooo... instead she double down on lying towards him and had the audacity to feel insulted when ML asked her some questions due to safety concern. Then she turned that around and gaslighting the ML by accusing him about never trusting her because he keeping... more>> asking questions and then demand that he has to trust her.

This is one of the parts of the MC personality that I really, really found insufferable. And I cannot stand it anymore, so I drop half way through the story. And I don't regret it. <<less

I liked the MC and ML at the start but the more it went on the less likeable they became.

MC can be summed up as a gas lighting girl boss who doesn't really like the ML.

She's pragmatic and having a good looking work horse is better than cramming into the educated youth housing. What gets to me is despite how hard he works, she thinks on several occasions that he's lazy. She also dislikes his clinginess, but doesn't do anything to address his insecurities.

She actively tells him to talk things... more>> out with her but doesn't explain herself instead she just becomes whiny and childish and the ML afraid she'll leave caves. She has no respect for him or his opinions.

Onto the ML, the author took a decent character and gave him massive personality flaws to highlight the goodness of her MC.

There's this weird thing in some Chinese media that if a woman has s*xual desires there is a problem with her virtue or morals or something and to maintain the girls 'virtue' the ML is often portrayed as "forceful" but it supposed to be fine because the women are married or dating the guy or they end up 'liking' it. He's a rapist, straight up, no sugar coating it.

On another note, her gaslighting has been brushed off because people are saying she doesn't mean any harm but she is eroding his ability to trust his judgement which would affect other areas of his life.

Two problematic people whose story doesn't get properly resolved. Honestly I think this was meant to be longer but the authors readers got fed up with the story and she was forced to cut it short. <<less

It's okay. I enjoyed it at least. There were some problematic situations but overall it's a typical 60/70/80s educated youth in the countryside story. The story follows as MC plants and makes money and navigates life in the countryside with the goal of entering college. I'd say the end of the story wraps up quickly after MC enters college. The last few chapters are more a sped up timeline that feels like an extra. MC is smart and determined. She makes money, plants, and loves her life as comfortably as... more>> possible. She was only about 21 or 22 in modern day society (which I would argue that people are more immature in modern day society, especially if they haven't faced hardships). Then transmigrates into a 16 year old body and has her memories. So I'd say she's about the same maturity level as ML.

ML is devoted and doting on MC after her falls in love but also very insecure. Which probably has to do with his upbringing, his personality, and poverty situation. It doesn't help that much of the betterment in his life is attributed to MC pushing him forward.

I do agree about some problematic sections as stated by the other reviewer. But at the same time, I'd just like to point out that there were different expectations and pressures in those times. Especially in the countryside. And people's opinions do actually impact a lot of individual decisions. A person like MC who brushes others off and doesn't let expectations affect her is quite rare. In regards to the other comment, I'll say a few things. However I do want to say that if those topics are a hard no for you, don't bother with this story. It's not so great that I'd recommend pushing thru. Truly nothing spectacular about this story. I basically read to spend the time. I do agree tho that the intimate bed scenes between MC and ML did seem problematic at times. I don't understand why it was necessary for MC to almost always be unwilling and ML to almost always be forceful and needy. I guess this is the author's preference? I will say tho that MC and ML often seemed to have miscommunication. We as the reader have an omniscient perspective but we have to remember that MC and ML don't know 100% what the other is thinking and feeling. For example, ML being upset about MC wanting to delay marriage. Although we know her reason is that 1. She wants to wait for college and 2. She has a more modern mentality and feels too young, ML will not know about either of those thoughts. She tells him she's too young but ML (reasonably) thinks in 60s mentality where it's reasonable to get married (although still young, it's not the same feeling as more modern day thinking).

As for the stalking, I don't recall MC saying it's the most pure form of love. I could be wrong about that. It does feel like that educated youth was worn down and swayed by the dude. But also, she seemed to not dislike him as he grew up and changed and matured. Not sure if it's stalking or persistent pursuit. I do agree it's terrible he can't take a no for an answer. And IRL I'd hate it too. But the village's reaction to it isn't unrealistic. They value men more and think he has great specs. Also, again, we can't rule out the fact that dude matured and changed for her. And later on, the girl strung him along to see if he'll continue to change and be worthy of her agreeing.

The female youth who had her medical info leaked was wack. But I assume there isn't any privacy in the countryside system back in those days. Also, she was so disliked that I'm not surprised they would gossip. ML wasn't the only one. We later see the female doctor mention it to MC when this same youth is pregnant. Lastly, I'm not certain what the MC is supposed to do for those people who are suffering? She does her best to help out. But realistically, she can't stick her head out for everyone. She has her own life to live and she wants to get along with the community. What is she supposed to do? The little girl she does feed secretly quite often. And eventually helps her get an apprenticeship at the medical center (by motivating her to proactively ask for it and then the village leader learns it's the MC who recommended her and allows it). I don't recall who the friend who is treated poorly is. I do recall a friend who is suffering a bit during confinement because her mother won't let her open the windows to let cold air inside. There definitely is period accurate misogyny tho. We get the boys preferred over girls things. MC's family being prime example. Don't expect much after MC gets into college. Author speeds up the timeline and glances over details. Especially after they buy a house. It seems like author had plans to cover more, for example ML's family, but decided against it. Ultimately, we can infer that MC becomes a rich lady with all the property she bought up. And ML becomes a famous doctor. No kids. I'd recommend those who want to read a very standing 60s slice of life story. <<less

Slice of life transmigration story with magical space. FL doesn't make too much money from space like other stories though.. It's just enough for them to be comfortable.

I think FL is cute and logical, and a bit spoiled. She apologizes when she needs to and isn't overly stubborn, except when ML threatens her independence by his clingyness. She teases ML often but does get vexed when he teases her back. Most of the time, it's her being angry at her slow growth compared to ML or him wanting to shut... more>> her in their home. She teaches ML to communicate with her and may seem overbearing when she does this because she threatens him with breakup, but I think she's in the right because it is exhausting to be with someone who doesn't share their feelings or communicate when it matters or too possessive. She retaliates because the ML is extremely insecure and believes she's too good for a country boy like him who has no family and no prospects. If anything, she forces him to be ambitious and opens his mind to a world bigger than the village, and forces him to respect her need for space.

I don't think she's a bad MC at all. Her "gaslighting" (as someone mentioned) doesn't harm anyone but to hide her space, and actually benefits everyone.

Spoiler

She doesn't tell him about her space until the final chapters.

[collapse]

The pace is very slow, true to the slice of life tag, but speeds up in the final chapters all the way through their 70s after 50 years of marriage.
Spoiler

They never had children by choice. Very glad for them because no one should be pressured to be parents when they're clear in their hearts that they don't want them.

[collapse]

Overall a decent read for a slow weekend. They gave sweet moments but is a very typical 70s story. <<less
