This is a story about the pursuit of victory.

— “I subscribe only to the theory of victory. I only pursue victory. As long as I am able to obtain victory, I don’t care if it’s total football or counterattack. What is the ultimate goal of professional soccer? In my opinion, it is victory, and the pinnacle of victory is to become the champions. I am a manager. If I don’t wish to lose my job or be forgotten by the people, there’s only one path for me to take, and that is to lead the team in obtaining victories, in obtaining championship titles!”

The main character was not well-liked by people.

— “⋯We conducted a survey which had been deemed by Manager Tony Twain as extremely meaningless. In a random street survey conducted, ninety-three percent of those surveyed chose the option ‘I hate Tony Twain’, while only seven percent chose the option ‘This person is rather decent, I like him’. It is worth noting that nobody chose the option ‘Who is Tony Twain? I don’t know him’. Mark, do you know why Manager Twain felt that our survey was very meaningless?” Parker, a reporter from laughed loudly and said when he was being interviewed by BBC.

But there were also people who were madly in love with him.

— When Tony Twain was forced to talk about the survey conducted by during an interview, his reply was : “I am happy, because Nottingham Forest’s fans make up seven percent of England’s population.”

And he did not seem to care about how the others saw him.

— “What are you all trying to make me say? Admit that I am not popular, and everywhere I go will be filled with jeers and middle fingers. You all think I will be afraid? Wrong! Because I am able to bring victory to my team and its supporters. I don’t care how many people hate me and can’t wait to kill me, and I also won’t change myself to accommodate the mood of these losers. You want to improve your mood? Very simple, come and defeat me.”

His love story had garnered widespread attention.

— “Our reporters took these pictures at Manager Tony Twain’s doorsteps. It clearly shows that Shania entered his house at 8.34pm and she did not leave the house throughout the night at all. But Manager Tony Twain firmly denies, and insists that that was merely the newest-model inflatable doll which he had ordered.

He was the number one star of the team.

— “⋯ Became the spokesperson of world-wide famous clothing brands, shot advertisements, frequented the fashion industry’s award ceremonies, endorsed electronic games, has a supermodel girlfriend. His earnings from advertisements exceed his club salary by seventeen times, owns a special column in various print medias, publishing his autobiography (in progress), and is even said that he is planning to shoot an inspirational film based off his own person experiences! Who can tell me which part of his life experiences is worthy of being called ‘inspirational’? Hold on⋯. Are you all thinking that I’m referring to David Beckham? You’re sorely mistaken! I’m talking about Manager Tony Twain⋯.”

He was very knowledgeable about Chinese soccer.

— “⋯ I’ve heard about it, that Bora gifted four books to his manager Mr. Zhu before your country’s national team’s warm up match. After which, the team lost 1:3 to a nameless American team from Major League Soccer. The new excuse that Mr. Zhu gave for losing the match, was that Bora gifted “books” (‘books’ and ‘lose’ are homophones in the Chinese language). Here, I recommend that you guys find out what that one specific book is. Which book? Of course the one that caused you all to score a goal. After that, tell me the title of the book. Before every match, I will gift ten copies of that same book to you. In that case, won’t you all be able to get a triumphant 10:0 win over your opponents every time?” An excerpt taken from Tony Twain’s special column in a certain famous Chinese sports newspaper.

He was loved and hated by the press.

— “He has a special column in at least four renowned print media, and he is able to get a considerable amount of remuneration just by scolding people or writing a few hundred words of nonsense weekly. While we have to contemplate hard about our drafts for three days before our boss is pleased with it. In an article inside his special column, he scolded and called all of the media ‘son of a bitch’, announcing that he hated the media the most. But every time he publishes an article, we flock towards him like flies which had spotted butter. Why? Because the readers like to read his news and see him scold people. I dare to bet with you, and Manager Tony Twain knows clearly in his heart as well, that even though he says that he hates us, he knows that the present him cannot do without us. Similarly, we also cannot do without him. Is this ultimately considered a good or a bad thing?” Bruce Pearce, a reporter from said with a face of helplessness when talking about Tony Twain.

But no matter the case, his players were his most loyal believers.

— Gareth Bale, “No no, we never had any pressure when playing on our home grounds. Because the pressure is all on the manager. As long as we see him standing by the side of the field, all of us will feel that we will be able to win that match. Even the football hooligans are like meek lambs in front of him!” (After saying this, he began to laugh out loudly)

The reply from George Wood, the team captain of Nottingham Forest, was the most straightforward. “We follow him because he can bring us victory.”

The legendary experience of Tony Twain, the richest, most successful, most controversial manager with the most unique personality!

Debuting this summer.

Thank you for reading.

Agree with felix, less sh*t than expected. The author did his research on football, u can learn of football history from this. MC transmigrated into someone older than himself but dont worry, the newspaper still describe him as handsome xD. The MC knows when to back down unlike IRAS.i would have rated it 5 stars if not for the following 2 reasons:
minor spoiler
... more>>
Spoiler

1. The MC is a football fan and is transmigrated into a football manager. He has no prior experience as a football manager but he still leads his team to victory and is viewed as a good manager. And the author's reasoning for this ? Its because he played Football manager in his previous life lol.

2. Of all people the author decides to use the commentator for trash talk. And the commentator does it on live television. Let me tell u something, no commentator in any sport is allowed to take a side or berate someone or make fun of someone. But here the commentator does it like there's no tomorrow.

Beside these 2 points, I think this is the only sport novel right now currently worth reading.

EDIT:Epic. Giving it 5 stars. This novel deserves better rating then it does now.i binged it in two weeks.

Spoiler

i got my answer to the question of why a person who never coached before in his life can be a successful coach. Its because he can control the morale of his team. And sometimes that is better than a team's players individual strength and skills. Till the end of novel he never involves himself in his teams training cause he doesn't know sh*t about it. He has two strengths, one is his ability to control his team morale and the other is he knows the future of the next 3, 4 years. He gets some star players who were unknown at the time. Dw not messi or roanldo cause they were already famous at the time. Now u would say that a team morale doesnt matter if the opposing team have figures like figo, zidane, beckham but look at Croatia right now. They have reached the 2018 world cup final. Its not that they have any big player but it is the fact that they have never won an international trophy that drive them forwad. They are united and so are tony's players. Nottingham forest is in the same situation. They may have won 2 ucl in the past but that is histroy. They are now not even in the premier league. Tony uses this fact to stimulate his team morale and he does it like a boss. He uses the media remarks and the opponents arrogance against them.

this novel has great character development aside for the MC. Its because he doesn't need any. He already has a strong character at the beginning of the novel. He has his own standards and in his team he is the king. Doesnt matter if u are the star player, if u go against his rules he will fire/transfer u. He isnt patriotic and dw he never takes over the Chinese national team (dont know if this is a sopiler). On the contrary he is against Chinese football.

the biggest plus for me is that it isnt a harem.
at the end of the end the best sports novel without a doubt for me. <<less

Less sh*t than expected. Actually handles countries outside of China with some sort of gravity and elegance/respect despite being a chinese webnovel (See I Really am a Superstar and other "modern world" chinese WN's), which is majorly helped along with it being set in England.

MC is flawed but somewhat likeable, and it's like a less honorable chinese version of "Giant Killing", the sports manga/anime.

So far, pretty good. Give it a try - I'll confirm that the MC's plans don't always work out, and that makes the story far more interesting.... more>> Sure it's inhuman speech/charisma levels and a bit of "time travel" cheating, but it's a lot less contrived than something like Perfect Superstar or IRAS.

Edit:

Spoiler

So, this is based on the RAWs - have to say, it's pretty good, and devoid of the racism you'd expect. This is basically Giant Killing, but set in England... That takes place over like 12 years, with multiple years and arcs intertwining.

I mean that in the best of ways.

It's with like 6 volumes at the moment, and frankly has some of the most well developed characters and arcs I've seen in chinese WN's in a long, long time.

I don't like doing early reviews. For example, right now there's still a little under 1000 chapters I havn't read. Maybe the novel changes later on. But there aren't much more chapters available, and I think the reviews give a skewed view on this piece of... work. I guess. Top of the line sports novel my ass. If you want football, go read Giant Killers, that manga is a lot better than this.

This is far from being as good as other reviewers say, in my opinion. It doesn't feel the... more>> slightest bit realistic at all.

The transmigration has a funny start, but its execution is hilariously bad. He doesn't seem to have to adapt much despite the large change. Other people always seem to like him, approve of him. He achieves his early goals easily, without much effort. He seems like a god, achieves results like a godly trainer, but doesn't have any knowledge or experience to back it up. Unbelievable, in the bad sense. The portrayal of women is just as bad. Every character interaction feels unrealistic. And...

Another thing that stood out to me: the author isn't able to write well about football. He talks about useless possession, which is a by now outdated, debunked theory. It might've even been debunked already at the time of writing. What Tony Twain does and say to coach his team, it's all utter drivel.

I still somewhat enjoy it, but that doesn't mean that it's any good. 2/5. And that's being generous: if this was a paper book... This quality wouldn't even get looked at by any publishing company. Non-NU score would be like 0.5 or 1 out of 5. Luckily for this novel, NU has a lot worse still. <<less

Early impression is that this is a top-of-the-line sports novel. The MC is the coach and already has a very strong character, basically imagine Tony Stark if he was born poor and had a passion for soccer.

The author clearly has a passion for the sport as well, with impeccable research in real world players and teams, as well as certainly being a big fan of Football Manager. I lack the knowledge necessary to fully appreciate this, but those with knowledge of early '00s English football would no doubt be delighted,... more>> especially if they're fans of the real life Nottingham Forest.

One thing I've never seen done before, the MC transmigrated into someone older than himself (26 into a 34-year-old body), which is typical of the general boldness of the novel. Given how high the rating is for the original novel (9.3), I have high hopes for this. <<less

This is pretty good.

the author knows his stuff and his writing on football history and players are accurate. the only disappointing thing is that there's no romance and the MC eventually forgets about his past despite the author trying to reconnect him to his previous self but it just disappeared.

there are times when the author tries to write the MC into a "person" who has a life outside football but somehow it just ends abruptly and disappointingly... it feels like the author doesn't know how to write anything outside of... more>> football.

that said, alot of games are skipped and only the important ones are written in detail but it's still a good read.

it's basically a "lesser" giant killing. <<less
