I was hoping the ratings here and at webnovel were wrong. Unfortunately, they are all true and this is a very mediocre novel.

Our MC transmigrated to a future more advanced Earth plagued with mutated animals and zombies. Apart from letting us know that, nothing else has been mentioned of his past. Did he come from 1850? Or 2001? No clue. It's just a convenient cliche to put a leveling system inside him.

The downfall of this novel is that the MC keeps doing repetitive things and there's nothing original about it.... more>> He starts off at a corrupt school where people will have a death feud over anything. He then goes off to another school and everyone is basically a unscrupulous bandits. I honestly felt like every other chapter, the MC was fighting something or someone. It just keeps going on and on i.e. Fight students at school, fight zombies at x ruins, fight people at school, fight people at x competition. There's no breathing room and there's no character development, just fight fight fight.

The next problem is MC usually walks into a fight confidently but then a special move is beyond his expectation and he gets scared. Then he wins the fight by putting on his plot armor! Rinse and repeat!

Another thing that annoys me but probably not others is that the translation quality is actually decent for webnovel, but there are so many questions in the novel that lack question marks, like "who are you!" etc. Just a pet peeve of mine heh. My opinion, you can skip this one and only read it when you have nothing left. <<less

this was a 3.5 despite the repetitive content, until the romantic subplot kicked in, then it dropped to 2.5-3 and stayed in that range. its too forced and honestly, I don't have the patience for cringy romance so I tend to start skipping and skimming to get past those interactions that make my skin crawl.

it's very repetitive and MC can't get a single thing without someone else coming along to rob him. every. single. time. all he has to do is breath and it offends some young master and his grandpa. and the fights...I eventually started skimming them and went back to reading once I saw the "ding!" which meant the enemy is dead. or it did until the author seemed to forget about the system for a large chunk in the middle.

the MCs various companions exist to be in danger and to be rescued over and over by him. lots of them admire him but he doesn't seem to have real friends, other than the obvious love interest, and she mostly exists to trigger a power up for the MC and to be rescued over and over and over again.

and there really is no break chapters to give the reader a chance to adjust; even the most hardcore fighting shounen will give the reader a break chapter in between big fight arcs where the MC relaxes and chats, eats, has a fun party or a beach episode where nothing more than good eating and bickering happen. this story is lacking in those moments, moving from fight to fight to fight to tournament, and back to fighting. it was bad enough that I would get tired of it and go read something else for a while before coming back.

as for the writing

I don't know if its the writers or translators choice but the use of slang, i.e. using "chick" all the time when referring to women, was out of place (and annoying) in a cultivation novel; it threw me out of the story several times.

also, the numbers are not consistent, i.e. one moment he says he needs 2B to level up and later in the same chapter its 200mil even though he hadn't killed any mosters or gained any more exp; it happens a lot with stats, too. gives the impression that the author never bothered to look at what they'd wrote earlier and just filled it in on whim so becoming a higher rank was actually less expensive than the lower rank, which at one point was in the trillions.

the author was worse than the usual no research authors. Valkyries are exclusively female but in the story its a level for all genders.

needs some editing/grammar tlc.
