This is a very good urban themed CN webnovel. I would rate this around a 3.5-4.5. This novel stands out amongst its peers mostly due to the greater depth put into character relationships and interactions.

Thoughts:

    • The main character is very standard - hardworking, high IQ, high EQ, bold. There's not much to pick on him, and he grows as a person (though mostly at the start). He's very smart, interacts with various female characters very smoothly, and is very intelligent about what he can or cannot do socially. He gains money by breathing, but the majority of his system money comes from events that give him multipliers on his actions. His bluffs are very awesome.
    • What sets this novel apart from all the rest is character interactions and details. People the MC interacts with tends to have their own friends and it lets you feel that there are whole circles and cliques of friends that the MC participates in. The novel also goes into particular detail about social interactions, about how characters feel and why the MC's actions is a high EQ response etc. It's this extra bit of detail that brings the social interaction in this novel to life. The character generally all standout and have their own personalities and are cute in their own way. His circle of friends do tend to intersect occasionally (often to interesting effect if his girlfriend is involved).
    • The MC very quickly gets to a very high level of social hierarchy. He doesn't really hide his wealth or anything so young master slap fights are relatively rare and gets fixed within a few chapters whenever it does occur. There are zero damsel in distress plots including NTR, forced marriage, or kidnapping etc. The novel tends to be very slice-of-lifey and conflicts/climaxed are very far and in between (though are often very good when they do occur)
    • An earlier review says that the MC is "faithful". It's technically true in that the MC only has one girlfriend (she's very cute, not very controlling, and stays relevant, though albeit being offscreen most of the time). However the MC is also actively flirting with a lot of other girls, from his girlfriend's friends to people he meets during university/his business/certain circles of friends. However, he's very smart and won't overstep any bounds that would cause large issues in the relationship between him and his GF (aka having physical intimacy with people he should not). He also occasionally relieves his s*xual needs on other girls - one off stands/transactions with people at a lower social hierarchy that aren't very related to his important social circles.
    • There is nationalism but no heavy racism. There have been zero MC slaps random foreigner plots. The main ideology the MC believe in, is in the decrease of western influence after China's rapid economic/social rise in the 2000s.
    • As of c538 and this date of review, the author apparently is seriously sick and has not updated for 22 days. Hopefully he gets well soon as it seems that hes not in the best of health.

I've read this up to chapter 296

Pretty good slice of life. In this story, we have a look of how an ordinary boy lives his life when he know he can generate money just by breathing [and some coupon that he got that gives out 3x/10x rewards depending on how much he spend]

The MC personality is a good one I must say. It really shows how much he grow as a person. It might seems a little bit boring since each arc has no climax or something thrilling. But at... more>> least it's an enjoyable read. Oh, to be noted the MC is very faithful.

Let's just say this is that one ordinary novel where you can just relax and read it without exerting brain power. <<less

The novel started out as a better version of the novel "Rebirth of the Godly Prodigal" (that novel where the MC goes around screaming "i must squander!" like a psycho)

The first 70 chapters were comfy and fun, the idea of handpicking watermelons with his system ability then selling them as delicacies and multiplying his income with a ticket impressed me, and I couldnt wait to see what his next moneymaking method would be!

But then, he goes to the city to buy a watch and my previous hopes and dreams for a fun novel disappear, this man literally falls in love at first sight with this dancer girl he meets on the train, then he goes to party with her friends (my god, how is it that her friends are 200% more interesting than her), faceslaps two young masters and takes the dancer as his gf, (only as a title) chapters later he has to bow his head down and accept his gf (only in title) being groped on stage by some dancer dude who performs with her because this is her dream! And let's not forget the pathetic coping "H-He's not touching her, just lifting her!" nice green hat setup man, I'm 100% sure this will be an arc in the future, some kind of shitty misunderstanding with the dancer dude.

(I have to say, yes there are some petty grudges but they're not the usual "A random young master is offended, so he quickly calls his father and asks him to kill the mc's 9 generations and his dog", these young masters actually think and back off in time)

I just can't get over how the MC fell in love with the Li girl, a girl that would disdain him if he was poor, a girl who only used him as a shield because that young master was annoying her, we can even see how her actitude towards him changes after seeing how expensive his bag is. (On his graduation party, he had the face to disdain his class monitor for not being interested in him, because he didn't carry expensive clothes or a bag! Bro, wanna try talking to the Li girl in the train without your LV bag and see what happens?)

It's hard to understand the translations so I barely know what's going on but here's a quick summary:

So basically, the MC (Wang Yan) gets a system, which lets him earn money just by breathing. It first starts off with him earning 0.2 yuan by breathing once but increases as the system gets upgraded. Where I'm at, I think it's now 1 yuan per breath. The system can be upgraded if he spends money, so he buys expensive stuff like clothes and bags and a watch. It doesn't look like there'll be a lot of "young masters" causing trouble for him because he'll be wearing those expensive things so he can't be easily mistaken for a poor pushover.

The female lead seems to be a girl named Liu Li, who attends some kind of dance college.

Slice-of-life-like urban harem romcom mainly focused on 'character development', spending money, and some business/management aspects.

It's somewhat hilarious how most of the other reviews completely missed the main point or being outright misleading.

The first thing I want to point out is that it's a proper harem novel with at least 1/3 of the time being spent on flirting with girls.

... more>> MC has a more or less open-minded girlfriend who knows that such things can't be stopped.

Her attitude is basically - everything is fine as long as she doesn't see it and he doesn't rub it in her face.

But Brother Dog isn't so simple. Doggie has his own dreams and aspirations, so while laying low and playing outside he is thinking how to organize a proper harem and not get killed by his GF in the future.

Such interactions are one of the main attractions of this novel.

The second point is that it's a novel about enjoying life. This is MC's main goal, this is also what his system helps him to achieve. In order to do it better MC will try his best to improve himself.

Conflicts between young masters are still here. It's just that they are more low key and less cliche. If it's better or worse, more believable or not you should decide yourself after reading it.

Translation quality is at standard 'Webnovel's' level. Meaning that it's nothing awesome but still readable, though every once in a while there can be found 1-2 chapters of lower quality, but then it gets back to normal.

No need to expect too much and you wouldn't be disappointed. <<less

2, 5 Rounding up to 3 within the limitations of the system.

Overall its somewhat decent story with a lot of potential. It's definitely a wish-fulfillment story at its core with some power fantasy elements added in it but I would say it sort of majors in being 'thoughtful' or 'philosophical' even instead of just only being your usually low-quality slapstick comedy on the side. These things may later on come to play with character development but so far for me at least they have seemed rather shallow.

What's bothering me in... more>> this story is the way it sets up the worldbuilding scene or milieu which is the "Top 1% most successful human beings". It's just so.. Distasteful. I can't think of a better way to describe it. As soon as our guy MC gets his little cheat of a system which brings him unlimited money by breathing (and other perks such as getting more handsome etc.) he sets up to become this 'cream of the crop' -type of a person (or rather what he thinks that would be) and starts acting very disgustingly.

Cheating on his girlfriend means nothing to him, it's almost as if he would be in the wrong if he didn't cheat- that's sort of how the world works there. This novel portrays being rich and influential as something that can completely disregard the rules and invisible restrains of society and the 'normal people' such as his girlfriend or past friends just have to accept these things and take them as is.

What's the most annoying for me is that there really appears to be no other content than what the system dictated for the MC such as just sleeping around, drinking, gaming and spending money. It's basically just one big patterned continuum of slice of life where every once in a while he levels up the system and sometimes gets extra perks. There definitely could of been a lot more 'real plot' happening.

Overall I did like vibe but the setting started becoming pretty suffocating when the MC started getting bigger and bigger then started psychologically dominating every aspect of his 'friends' and 'lovers' lives. To be completely honest I'm not so sure it WOULDN'T be like this in the real world but I would like to think us humans just have something more than just this; that it truly would not be the 'cream of the crop' thing to be that disgusting of a person.

I read until 126 but slightly browsed quite bit further. <<less

The story is good at about 4.5-5/5 for me but the tl is so horrendous I simply could not continue reading out of frustration

If you can force your way through the tl then reading this is a must

It's really really good, but unfortunately the translation is just like mtl. Sometimes the pronouns can be"he", next time it's a "she".

Sigh, just go read I Just Want To Be a Salted Fish Quietly instead.

At the beginning at least, this story is worse (though the one I recommend instead also has a somewhat weak start).

However, goddamn. The translations are so unreadable. The first few chapters are straightforward MTL (also, can the TL add the fcking "next" button on his site already), and while it gets better after 5-10 chapters, the text remains stiff and awkward such that it's somehow very tiring to read this novel.

Well, I remember trying to MTL-read this... more>> novel a few years ago and using a dictionary for some places, so then again I can understand the TL a bit (it was fcking difficult, way more than an average novel - 'cause either more slang or more advanced grammar, I don't remember).

Also, I don't really have a good impression of MC. He started earning money by swindling others (taking loans on false ID, like how is this novel not censored in China), and then boasted about it to his friend that scolded him for it. I don't mean he should be goody-two-shoes, but a man ought to have some principles. Later some people can get their lives fcked over just because MC didn't return money that he was entirely capable of returning (fcker even monologued some BS about not knowing how to spend the money he earned using those loans).

Also, lmao how MC spent a gift card early on on fixing his mannerisms. Like dawg, you need a cheat item to avoid doing things like hunching your back and stuffing your mouth with enough food to pout and lie on your table while eating (those are quotes from that chapter) ? My God, I've seen videos of Chinese tourists raiding banquets in other countries, but are the Chinese some f*cking pigs that have no table manners? MC even made some spiel about parents not teaching manners (including his own) lmao, I don't even. So much for China numbah one, can't even eat like a human being properly.

Anyway, reading this is such a chore that I don't want to abuse myself with this sh*t anymore. I took a glance at chapter 170-something, but the style seems pretty similar to those better initial chapters (readable but somehow awkward and tiring to peruse). <<less

Story started off pretty good, I think that it's a simple concept for the system and at the start it was just a basic yet enjoyable slice of life feel. However, that's one of the only thing redeemable about it. The MC is a complete weirdo who sexualizes every woman that he meets and switches between "my girlfriend is the only girl that matters" to cheating on his girlfriend without a hint of hesitation. Have just started reading it, and the story immediately reminded me about the short story "Something for Nothing".

The "cheat system" just gives MC money for breathing, but with one caveat - to upgrade it, he has to spend a lot more than it gives, and MC happily runs to max all his loans.

The first ability it offers "as a bonus" is something that can't even be proven that it actually did anything - and MC is already starting major business investment trying to rely on it to earn more.
