Before he was a little over 10 years old, he was the nightmare of the Gorge of Heroes and the headache of countless people that had been abandoned by the world.

After leaving the Gorge of Heroes, he became a legendary figure of the number one academy in the continent, and he alone brought numerous changes to it.

Thereafter he stepped foot onto the continent to become a legend, but the road to become a legend was far more difficult than he’d imagined….

On a continent where puppet masters reign supreme, using anything and everything as weapons: living creatures, shoes, daggers, pendants, clothes, shields, guns — which they call puppets, this is the story of Bai Xiaofei with his trusty sidekick, Huskie, on a quest to find out exactly what happened to his parents and become the greatest illusion stream puppet master the world has ever seen. This is a story of wit, plot twists, love, strategy, cultivation, humor, and the unknown.

The novel is a book about, well, I don't know.

Yes, I have zero f*cking clue over wth this novel is trying to do, it has gotten to the point where I'm wondering whether or not the author knows the term ''Plot'' is.

Spoiler

The whole novel revolves around a 16 year old boy, who popped out of the ground, and found an old dude f*cking a lady in the middle of the mountains, old dude proceeds to read his future, for no reason at all. Finds out that he's destined to be a ladykiller (absolute BS btw) and proceeds to make him his disciple, due to old man owning the only technique that fix an issue that was caused ages ago from eating a fruit.

Teenager accepts because he has no other way to cultivate if he doesn't, and as such a master and student relationship begins. That is, untill 5 chapters later when the master dumps him to a place, to find his father.

Yes, kid went to out to find his father, which, according to him, is dead.

He's trying, to find his dead father.

Whilst not being able to cultivate.

Sounds pretty farfetched, but it turns out that the technique that our MC learns is a dual cultivation technique, as such he needs to find virg*ns to pluck in order to proceed in ranks, best of all, the fruit that he ate ages ago, is an aphrodisiac, which he needs to vent on an innocent passerby fox lady.

It is only after that, that we finally understand the world we're in. If we ignore the fact that this author is really sh*t at writing cultivation systems.

Every category of cultivation in this world is split into 9 stages. That's fine, but the problem is that there's about 5 or 6 different forms of rankings that we need to memorize, whilst the author chooses to spread it out, such that we can't remember any of them untill we look it up again.

Then there's also the power hiarchy where beasts are stronger than puppet masters, and puppet masters are stronger than martial artists. That is untill puppet masters reach a certain level they will get asskicked by martial artists, whilst after that level they will get asskicked by beasts, and then beasts will get asskicked by them after another few levels.

Confusing right?

But let's set that aside for now.

Our MC has now reached Starnet Academy, the place where he will spend the rest of his chapters, doing nothing. He get's first place in the entrance exams yet gets kicked into the worst class because one of the vice principals are biased against the surname Bai. Our boy then meets two beautiful woman in that class, one who has mental defficiancies and another who's a psychopath.

MC then goes around and does nothing except making money which he has no use for, whilst forgetting his entire purpose for coming out.

The worst of it all is that our MC is pitifully weak for over 300+ chapters, and never bothers to improve himself at all. He falls in love with the girl he r*pes, and girl falls in love with him, because he r*ped her.

The teacher who is the only female who has gotten a smidgen of character development is ignored 90% the time other then when people proclaim how terrifying she is, MC included, which is f*cking hypocritical of him, but whatever.

And the mentaly defficient Lin Li, who would do anything for him, yet is the one who gets ignored the most.

Yet despit all this, our MC never bothers doing anything to improve himself despite going through life and death more than once, according to earlier chapters, him utilizing his origin core can make him skip ranks and fight those things which could squash him in an instant, yet there's the s*upid reprocussion that if he uses it, the energy will serve as an aphrodisiac, so he's doesn't use it, despite the fact that it could save himself, and his loved ones by using it.

He never strives to improve the things which he lacks, I.E, puppets, which he blames his cultivation technique for, despite the fact that he has 8 people who are in love with him and would be willing to get plucked by him, he chooses to act like a dense buddha statue, with his excuse being that Xian'er (r*pe victim) would be sad. Despite the fact that she has acquised with him building a harem.

[collapse]

This review might seem like an absolute clusterf*ck, but that is because there is no other way to describe anything else in this novel other than clusterf*ck, MC is money hungry, despite not being able to use any of it.

Acts like he's castrated, despite being lustfull AF.

And the story never moves on, but instead repeats the earlier chapters, i.e making money for no damn reason

It's an harem novel without a harem, a xuanhuan novel without cultivation, fighting, or proper plot. It is instead an improvised mess where 300 of the chapters I've read is actually filler plot. <<less

To be honest, I was attracted to the title and the summary. They're a perfect setup for a story that I would enjoy!

For the first 25 chapters, I enjoyed it. Really do. And then the "Savage Class" appeared, I'm okay with side-characters development but these characters? I really didn't give a sh*t about them, hell, I don't even remember their names! Even worse is that the novel focuses on them (currently), I was devastated.

Expected a cool novel with the main character similarly to Bai Xiaochun, which I got. But the... more>> story is completely ruined in other aspects. The story is there! The history of what happened was set up! And the mysterious backstory of the MC is there as well. Alas, the other characters are simply not endearing enough.

I dropped it once at chapter 35 for reasons, picked it up today and read to the latest, still wants to drop it.
It's early AF but at the same time, it's 55 chapters in. Maybe I wanted a solo run like all Xianxia/Xuanhuan but so what? I like them. <<less

The women who are obviously going to end up in his harem are complete b*tches that bully him because he is weaker, one even decided to pay people to beat him up. Sure he isn't innocent but these women are going way too far in their abuses. There is literally only one who isn't a complete bit*h that needs to be taught a lesson. Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating violence, but in a cultivation world were even r*pe is justified with power, women should either just kill a... more>> man and be done with it before the man has a chance to get stronger or suffer retribution. Though my opinion applies overall in novels like this that you should never leave someone alive if you are going to seriously offend them in some way because if they get stronger (or gain a superior backing) not only can they take revenge, they absolutely should. He needs to set them straight, whether or not they end up in his harem (though they likely will). I'm by no means saying the women should be subservient to him, but at the same time, they don't have to be unreasonable b*tches.

I also don't get the r*pe tag as it wasn't r*pe. Not only was the MC was unconscious and his body reacted to a woman subconsciously, but she is also extremely powerful and while she couldn't exactly kill him without getting retribution from the master she also had the ability to protect herself from him. The MC simply wasn't strong enough to force himself on her, and he was unconscious so he couldn't use tricks, so if anything she r*ped him because she was both the more powerful one and the only one of sound body and mind. So yeah, it should be a reverse r*pe tag. <<less

This novel is pretty funny with a refreshing, crafty MC who gets into endless amounts of trouble. He's a shameless flirt with a smart mouth and a constantly increasing number of enemies. I had a great laugh out of watching him cause trouble after trouble. It's not like unfortunate events happen to him by accident but rather that he himself causes these events. He is clearly a leading member of the Death-Seeking Army. His cunning survival is quite funny. The characters have demonstrated at least some depth in their personalities... more>> thus far, but this is definitely more of a comedy series than a drama. However, there are some warning points to watch out for...

Very early in the series, a r*pe scene occurs. I can read stories with r*pe just fine, but the way it occurs in this series makes this series lose a star in my regards.
Spoiler

The MC practices a rare cultivation technique that somehow causes an aphrodisiac effect on him and the surrounding area. When he becomes aroused, instead of letting the MC use his self-restraint or touch himself to deal with the effects, his so-called master kidnaps a nearby woman and forces her to be near them. She is likewise influenced by the aphrodisiac, and the two have s*x while drugged. Thanks to the teacher, both characters were essentially drugged and r*ped by each other. This is something that could have been left alone, and it was completely unreasonable to force someone to be r*ped just to help the MC with his lust. Worse yet, the master says that the MC can level up by using this technique with virg*ns, which implies more r*pe will occur in the future.

[collapse]

I admit that it's funny when he appears to attract men as well.

Another issue I have is the term "puppets." The "puppets" in this series have hardly any similarities with puppets as usually recognized in the English language. The only semblance they have is as objects controlled by other people. They are more like artifacts, weapons, or tools rather than genuine puppets. I don't know if there were other ways to translate this term from the original Chinese, but switching out the term "puppet" for another word or even just keeping the term in pinyin would make it easier to follow. <<less

MC archetype is orphan raised by den of thieves. If you're familiar with this archetype, then you know what you're getting. If you're not, it might be worth reading for exposure to it. The story is a bit aimless, but it lines up well with his personality and stated life goals. Many of the things I find frustrating with the novel are just byproducts of the MCs character. Also if r*pe -> love is triggering for you, this story isn't for you.

This is another one of those unfortunate novels that is it's own worst enemy. When it's at it's best, it's actually quite good. Unfortunately, the author tries very hard to ensure we don't get the best parts.

The novel is at it's best when it's the MC interacting with his friends. It's really quite good at those moments. The writing is funny, witty, and it's just all around very good. The characters are developed well enough and unique enough that their interactions are great fun.

And the author clearly views all of... more>> the above as a side-dish. The author thinks that big intricate plots are the meat of this story. But they aren't. They're the gristle that you have to work through to enjoy the rest of the story.

So the novel spends lots of time with random character X, Y, and Z as the focus. The bulk of the time is spent, at best, watching MC mouth off into the void. Technically he's talking to somebody, but it's not somebody that matters now or ever again, so they may as well not exist. It can be alright in small doses, but it's not small doses.

If the MC isn't busy talking to all the random characters, he's probably fighting. And the fights are not very good. At one point even the author feels the need to make fun of his own tendency to provide MC a new tool that just so happens to solve the situation he arrives at in the next paragraph.

The name of the game for most conflict resolution in this novel is 'random bullshit.' There's not much point in trying to actually predict or care about MC's abilities, tools, or knowledge, because random bullsh*t will carry the day. If it's not some convenient new ability that falls into his lap, it will be some complex plan of the MC that only hear about after the fact.

And because the author is convinced these deep intricate plots involving people we don't know or care about are the main part of the story... we mostly see MC doing conflict resolution with random characters we'll never see again after their few chapters are up. So it's a lot of MC talking into the void while random bullsh*t happens. At it's worst, we don't even get the MC mouthing off to himself. I was inspired to write this review after forcing my way through three chapters in a row that contained not a single mention of any recurring character. It was three chapters of random characters doing random things to other random characters. For three. Entire. Chapters.

So all in all, this is a bit infuriating to read. It gives you moments of brilliance before going back to mostly doing a very poor job of talking at length about things you don't care about. You really just want to grab the author and shake them until they finally realize their story is not what they think it is. <<less

The story remind me of a certain Manga where the MC came from a village of hidden Hero and so I started reading this.

Sadly it turn out to be far from as good as it was. It has so many questionable point and the MC character was not likable.

One thing to point is we have a MC that should have learned a lot from ex-heroes bat sadly not only was he not able to utilize such activities but he act no different from your daily scammers.

Mischievous action are different from... more>> scamming. And I hate scammers the most.

At Chapter 50 he already scammed majority of the people in the school not only that the reason he was save is because of the thick PLOT ARMOR. All the Scammed people was hating him then plot armor activated and all his scamming action was forgiven..

He suppose to have an OP skill but he use it on scamming people.

Another point is the girls on this novel are girl he scammed and the girls bullies him in return. The story revolve at this point. Scam people => Save by Plot armor => scam people again.

I see no reason to continue reading this SH*T.. <<less

This is a very interesting and fun story. The only problems are that he r*pes someone at the beginning (it's brief and there both drugged, but it is completely unnecessary) and the whole "savage class" thing. The savage class thing feels like the protag needed allies so the author just threw it in because I don't even remember who is in the class and don't need to. While this drags it down, the rest of the story was good enough to keep it from going down to a four.

Yup the plot is all over the place but think about this as MC going on many adventures before he reaches his goal. And yeah he is just a kid, not like a hot blood MC of other novels where they go and kill cities and have god send luck to get everything.

The novel is a good read and amazingly engaging. The annoying part is the ongoing gag about the girls but that's not the issue and is tolerable.

Oh yeah, they should change the ongoing status to hiatus though since... more>> the author has stopped for a period of time to change it from ongoing status. <<less

It is a good read but I am starting to lose my interest in it in the recent arc. The magic of story was mc's wit, humor and resourcefulness. But the humour is out of the window when he decided to travel out of the academy for a mission.

Just before this arc, MC will have character growth when he trained as a general in a illusion for a ranking which was nice. The recent arc also brings character growth as he felt the cruelty of the world. Some people will... more>> die for him.

What I did not like about it was, somehow MC became less intelligent. He was not humorous, he just allowed his enemies to grow stronger and there was another r*pe. And the r*pe victim became a lover. Another point is unnecessary drama and the ending was dragged on.

He actually killed the enemy with someone sacrifice to save him but when they were dealing with aftermath, author decided to prolong it by let the soul of the dead enemy to survive and capture the mind of one of MC ally and tried to kill MC by detonating the body of ally and commit su*cide. To save the dying MC, the r*ped new lover exchanged her life for him and MC didn't know she is gone.

The whole arc became moody and overdramatic. There are also too many women loves him and decides to share him and do anything for him. But I cannot see the reason except perhaps he is outstanding but the girls are also too. I felt Only one girl was given proper time and circumstances to develop feelings for him, qin lingyan. Others were too quick to fell in love with him. By now he is approaching two digits in his harem count and MC is only seventeen and the story progressed for a year <<less

Well, I think I know where all those ratings came from. See the tag for r*pe?

Honestly, I feel that the s*xual cultivation is totally unnecessary... it's just an excuse for the MC to power up easily, especially since relations are more interesting than blind training.

It's a pretty interesting story, but it hasn't been too deep. It has cliches, but they're done well enough.

... more>> Cons:

-author dumps a whole class of names at you in one go

-I'm not a fan of the harem, but the girls in the harem aren't bad

-everything seems to be going way too smooth for the MC

-predictable

-not a fan of the r*pe+r*pe victim becomes lover, and the way he threatens his puppets (he treats them well mostly, but still) :<

Pros:

-fun MC

-cliches used well

-interesting system of cultivation

-intriguing mysteries behind MC <<less

I want to give it a 3 but I've seen worse novels with better ranking than this so I'll go for 4 stars now (I'll change it later if it goes up the ladder). This novel so far is not bad but not that much captivating, also it's slow paced (with a slow release update), no major mistakes by the author except the beauties falling from the sky and some generic things. Even though with r*pe tag, it's nothing explicit and nothing mature. Recommendable for teens.

Edit: I dropped this one,... more>> there are better novels out there don't read it if you can't afford wasting your time <<less

It is hard to write a review after reading only 25 chapters, but I am liking it right now. So far, this seems kind of like a cheaper version of "A Will Eternal".

The author looks like he is going for a more comedic tone, sometimes succeeding but sometimes failing. Though what is different about this novel from A Will Eternal is that this MC's shamelessness factor is reduced, and his brain factor has been increased.

The protagonist is brave and doesn't back down when women push on him, is quite crafty,... more>> has a few tricks up his sleeves, and he seems to have a brain (for now). Put simply, this is a (somewhat) smart MC, who looks like he is in here for fun.

The author also doesn't give you a lot of exposition. He leaves things as it is, and only gives you the information once the particular thing is mentioned, so you don't have to worry about reading an entire chapter of exposition.

As for the harem tag - it is very obvious. From early chapters, the MC will engage with women, but the women don't seem to be ret*rded and don't just bend over while presenting their butts on the first meetings. They will talk to the MC, be amused by his straightforward attitude, but there will be no heart rate picking up, or blushing after just a few words.

Lastly, the world itself... Well, it is hard to say anything about the world right now, because, as I mentioned before, the author gives information only when its needed. Right now, we know only the basic outline of the world and it has the average cultivation ladder.

The unique point of this novel is that the cultivators here rely on puppets. These puppets can be man-made inanimate ones, or living beings under a contract. All puppets also have grades, depending on which colour aura they release. This point has a lot of potential as the type of cultivator you are depends on the puppet you wield, so the whole puppet thing will either make or break this novel.

Some of the fun is negated by the fact that MC gains a very big power boost early on, but it is still acceptable, because the MC studies one of the weakest puppet arts. Though just barely acceptable, because it still takes out the fun of weak to strong thing.

Well, in any case, this novel has some flaws, but I still I find it enjoyable; That's why, I am willing to give this novel 4 starts for the time being. <<less

MC who have weak combat power but unique ability, smart, glib tongue, and a master strategist, combined with a bit of mysterious background, harem with unique personalities, and comedy. If MC could scheme all his opponent to death, he will.. Definitely 5 stars for me.

The Protagonist Bai Xiaofei is very crafty and smart, likes to play tricks on others.

Trouble follows wherever he goes but he handles things well, making me wonder whether he is Lord Bai's descendant (Bai Xiaochun from A Will Eternal)

A puppet master's first puppet plays a very big role in their growth and illusion type which the BX has is considered the weakest.

His first encounter with his master was really odd but the term " an old master taught me" which many main characters of various cultivation novels use when... more>> they have no way of explaining their sudden knowledge is very apt here.
