It's a bit too soon to rate the novel, but I like the cute personality of the MC. I'm docking a star for two reasons:

Spoiler

One, it's very predictable that the purple eyed little girl the MC is currently telling absolutely everything to is actually the prince, who's eyes were described the same way. That being too obvious, it's clear that the prologue's cliffhanger is going to be answered by him not annulling their engagement.

Two, the MC is a little s*upid. She clearly likes the prince, but decides to go against her nature for years and vilify herself, then make herself suffer, for a depressing prisoner/guard romance even she doesn't seem keen on. She keeps mentioning it like she's trying to amp herself up and convince herself it's worth it. Maybe it's a self-confidence issue, but even then, she shouldn't have to wrong herself. Hopefully, this will be addressed.

Also, as someone who can't stand choosing mean options in video games, transmigrators who choose to follow through on the villainess route tend to make me uncomfortable... even if they switch the original fruit juice with water. <<less

It was a cute read.

Spoiler

The story started when the lead chars met when they were 8 years old and MC misunderstanding the Prince as a girl and tell tales her future stories which made the prince prevent the future that the MC expected to happen.

It was a simple and fluffy story.

4 stars would be 5 but the gag was a little labored.

Warning: If you hate misunderstanding stories this could well be nails on a blackboard for you.

I read this awhile back surprised I didn't review it then, it was something of a fun read, which is odd since I don't like misunderstanding stories.

First and only, the MC carries the story. She is cute, fun and dense as neutronium. She "knows" what the plot is supposed to be and how things go, and gets it all wrong, over and over and... more>> over again, in pretty comical ways. She is so good natured and adorable, she just moves the story forward by sheer force of cute.

The down sides: It's hard to keep misunderstandings going over the length of a novel, and the longer they go, the more labored it gets. The writing was a little substandard in places and it's very difficult to do comedy translations (too much gets lost). Finally the other characters could have been fleshed out more.

Bottom Line: A fun read. <<less

It’s entertaining for sure but I feel bad for the fl. I’m only on ch 42 and it’s mtl so I’m probably missing some stuff but her childhood kinda sucks honestly. Her dad is never there which leads to her thinking he doesn’t like her because of how much she looks like her mom, her stepmother is gloomy and hates her, and her step sister is a clueless self absorbed ditz. MC herself is kind of an idiot which I’ll excuse because she was only a middle school student when... more>> she died who was bullied terribly. I feel like I’m seeing a lot of “everything we did was to protect you, even though you’re getting emotionally hurt in the process trope” which I’m not a fan of because she’s lonely and if the person you’re trying to protect ends up with a sad, lonely childhood what’s the point?

A nice short novel! It starts out funny and light but when MC starts to isolate herself (because villains can't have friends) it becomes pitiful. On overall it's a story about MC who is always gloomy and ML who is constantly flirting with her and scheming around MC's plans.

There is a misunderstanding from the very beginning that goes to the very end (she firmly believes that everything will happen exactly like in the novel). And everything could be easily solved by just communicating but it doesn't happen or MC just... more>> stubbornly thinks that ML is pranking her or practicing being nice for og-heroine (it was fun at the start but later became tiresome).

About MC: In past life she was very poor, had no friends and was constantly bullied, last memories she has was when she was in middle school and wasn't even 16 years old, so she acts pretty childish. She was obsessed with reading novels, so she insisted that she is living in a novel and has to be a villainess, but because of her past trauma, she is unable to do actually evil things to her stepsister (og-heroine).

About overall mood: I think it was needlessly cruel. Only truly happy character from start to end was MC's stepsister, everyone else just suffered because of misunderstandings. MC was truly pitiful because she believed that she could only become happy after she is sent to jail where she meets prison guard (when she is 18) so all the story (from 8 to 18 years) she is constantly saying things "villainess is cool because she is always alone and doesn't trust others" or "villainess can't show emotions and cry" or "villainess can't tell others that she is abused because that will make her look weak". MC is never truly happy except at the very end of the story.

Something that I really disliked:
Spoiler

I think that the author handled MC's parents horribly. MC's dad was constantly out of mansion for 10+ years, because he was working a lot and didn't want to see MC (she looked like his late wife and poor MC was hurt because he always appeared on her stepsisters birthdays but never on MC's). And stepmother abused MC because she simply was late duchesses' child (what makes it worse is that stepmother was a good friend of late duchess...) and blamed MC as a reason why duke wasn't at mansion. MC got a literal trauma for her hurtful remarks (she made fun of MC's poor dancing skills and didn't let any tutors compliment MC), she also didn't let MC learn things properly (MC didn't have any dancing partners to dance together), burned MC's precious memory book and cut off all of her money to the point that MC couldn't get any new dresses and had to find a way to make money herself. In the end all of that was simply brushed away as a misunderstanding (the duke wasn't at home because of work not because he misses late duchess) and now they will be a very loving parents, oh well sorry for abusing you for last 10 years, now we are going to be nice (but funnily enough that only happened 2 months before wedding after which MC moved out of the house...)
