One of the sweetest ML I ever read! There was alot of dog food and funny dialogue. One of the most entertaining read for me. But the only thing is quarter way the the 1 st translation stops and later part becomes mtl. Which is very tragic... but overall the story really really good for me. As said, there is alot of sweet and touching moments. There’s also alot of funny moments, but there’s also alot of touching and tragic moments (as expected because there’s alot of malicious ghosts.)... more>> I really wanted to give 5 stars. Hopefully there’s a new translation for the later parts. Good read for something light hearted and not too heavy. Thank you <<less

If you want a fluffy, fairly light novel that encourages not using your brain very much, this is actually a pretty good choice. My low opinion is entirely based on the MC. He's shallow, self-centered, and extraordinarily s*upid throughout the novel. The ML is much more relatable. While he's extremely shy and somewhat oblivious, it makes sense given his history of seclusion from society. A lot of his reactions are what I would expect of someone who stopped having any real social interactions when he was six and has suffered... more>> extensive ostracization from everyone around him. A large portion of the 'time gaps' in the novel seem to simply be two people sitting in a house doing nothing and not communicating with each other for days to weeks at a time, as though they were machines that were turned off until needed again, with no effort at individual or mutual advancement. There's also a kitten who apparently never matures at all, and endlessly remains extremely small and young without anyone noticing anything wrong with that or commenting on it. The cat doesn't act much like a cat. Fair warning, though... the first sixty-five chapters aren't badly translated. Not great, but not bad. After that, straight MTL would probably be no worse than the 'translated' chapters. They're horrible. <<less

Expectation: mu*ders, mysteries, gore, supernatural, ghosts, deaths.

Reality: FLUFF, EAT DOG FOOD.

Ok, that's exaggeration on my part. tbh, I expect some gruesome things, thanks to my experiences with JP mysteries (totally my thing lmao). but this novel....... well not that bad. there's still some things that make me lose appetite, but most of time they're just okay, not too appalling, horrid enough for readers as it's supposed to be supernatural. just some cases are bit anti-climatic. this kind of supernatural-case story is really my fave.

the couple is very cute,... more>> totally, just a bit awkward coz both of them used to be alone for a long time. MC is not a weakling. he can really hit when it's needed. The ML tho... he is very kind in true sense, well mostly toward MC. rather than stoic, he's just awkward and doesn't know how to express himself. a real treat when many MLs are sick bastards or cold tyrants. honestly, I'm tired of those MLs. this ML... is too pure for this world. we don't deserve him at all. only MC deserves him #shot

A very good, heartwarming romance

Spoiler

The ML, he's cinnamon roll. He is so good that sometimes, I feel distressed for him.

The MC and ML are somewhat different from the usual role settings. The ML (gong) is the good housewife with nearly unmatched culinary power. The MC (shou) is the overbearing iron claws that can make ghosts regret their deaths. Together, they are THE power couple.

What makes me laugh is that the MC expect the ML to be a 'dog' in bed, but in fact, the ML is a 'wolf'.

This was the first novel by this author I read. It has a slow start, but I liked it enough to give “Earth Online” a try (which I now adore). At first I didn’t like this story as much as EO, but I now can’t think of this ML as anything but BEST BOY. He’s so kind, gentle, and adorkable, my absolute favorite type both in fiction and RL. (See Anra7777’s husband.) Both ML and MC are just as badass as the MC and ML in EO, and I can’t... more>> wait for the next chapter! (Why, oh, why, aren’t more MLs like this?? *Wail*) <<less

Characters : 5/5stars

The shou personality MC = 10/5stars!

The gong personality ML = 8/5stars!

... more>> Theme = is cliche actually, but when you add it with a splash of modern hi tech and bl = 4stars.

Plot development = very good, the frustrating is I wannnnnt moooooooar XD

Translation= 5/5stars

MC is not your usual the popular, cutie dependent shou type. He is the opposite! He can think! He can fight! (even better than ML) Did I say he can think BY himself?! He can make decision without anyone or especially ML to help. He can rationalize! He's no white or red or gray or whatever lotus there is. He is ruthless to those that wrong him, whether it's ghost or human! He has cat too!

ML is.... imagine Lan Wang Ji type in modern world, the super model student with cuteness and super innocent too! He will follow whatever wife tells him, and do whatever wife asks him eve when it'll break rules and all hell XD <<less

Good, but not overly interesting.

Cliche setup, amazing yin body + super celestial master but okay

Favourite parts of this novel are the parts involving the gossip in the Xuanxue world. It's honestly hilarious watching the bunch of unreliable celestial masters fool around.

The side characters in this story are also very lovable. Even the weapon is personified and has a playful character. I probably wouldn't have minded if the novel wasn't based on the main CP and the others had equal appearances. ... more>>

ML is also very cute. He's super pure, but almost to the point of too much lol. As for the MC, I liked reading about him in the first sections, since he could beat up ghosts (to everyone's astonishment) bc of his strange physique. But to be honest, his actual personality is a bit bland which makes him not very memorable.

Also.... unpopular opinion? I don't like how the ML always refers to the MC as "wife". Like first of all, he's a male, and secondly, I don't understand the trope of always using the name address (ig in this case replaced with "wife") for people instead of like, proper pronouns to sound cute. What I mean is that instead of "does he want this... maybe I should..." like a normal thought process, the ML's internal dialog is legit just "Wife doesn't like this??? What does wife like?? Will wife leave me?? mUsT pRotEct wIfE!!1!".... Please, its fine without. <<less

Holy crap, when reading this, be ready for three things:

  • Being force-fed mouthful after mouthful of dog food
On the the MC & ML:

Honestly, our MC is so hilariously OP at times despite not looking the part and our ML? So pure and innocent~ so precious! Gosh you just want to keep him in the palm of your hand and protect that pure being from being dirtied by the world lol

But honestly, I think you won't regret reading this because it's fast paced enough that you won't get bored, and those daoists and ghosts will give you plenty of entertainment along the way lol <<less

Sigh... why do all good stories do this s**t?

It's a good story, good premise, the potential for growth is there and the evolution is interesting enough.

  1. The MC is calm and pretty strong and the ML is cute and charming as well: a sweet, innocent and extremely OP cinnamon roll.
  2. The Xuanxue people are also all very cute and hilarious (I mean, "Ghosts Know What I Experienced" is the name of their blog. Enough said, really) and the side characters are all warm and interesting: the loyal university friend, the charming, somewhat tsundere OP trasure item and the scaredy was-supposed-to-be-powerful black cat.
  3. Only... why do all ML have to needlessly meddle and "help" the MC?? I mean, not everyone has the same strengths, thus if one is stronger in something of course they should offer help but... there's a limit to this. The other person is not a useless doll, you know? They can think and do things on their own perfectly well without help. I hate when good stories do this. Especially if the MC is strong as well, thus the help is even more useless!! Although, in this one the ML doesn't know of the MC's strenght thus it could be understandable from a certain standpoint but, I mean, if you find the MC hovering over a crying, bloody and beaten up ghost, your reaction isn't to think the MC is a poor, scared and defenceless little fairy and think the ghost "hurt" the other's hand, right? All without asking yourself any question?

I mean, this phrase tells you everything, really:

"Wife's matters is your matter. Your matters is still your matter."

I mean... what?? Although really "noble" and all that, that's not how a relationship should work. Or is that only my opinion?? I know in this case the author probably wrote it like this to get a... fun contrasting effect or something but really...

Well, at least in this case the ML does it because he genuinely cares and worries about the other and not because he's a jealous, possessive, domineering little b*****d. It would even be somewhat cute if it weren't so... excessive.

In any case, I haven't read all the chapters thus I don't know if things will change once the ML knows the true strength of the MC or not but I can't read further right now. Perhaps I'll add an update later on...

I think it's a good light-hearted read, and will suit those who like this type of supernatural comedy. The writing itself is okay with some witty sentences. So far episodic arcs and doesn't seem to have much seriousness to it.

As a previous review mentioned, I too, am not very fond of the type of humor used in this. Considering the 'horror' element, compared to other supernatural themed Trapped in an Infinite Chamber, Kaleidoscope of Death, or even Guardian, this one just isn't as exciting. Whenever a moment that could be... more>> somewhat tense comes up it literally gets blown away by overpowered MC or ML and falls flat that way.

I sort of cringe from the 'ghosts know' gossip and not entertained by the ML not knowing the MC can defend himself perfectly. I don't mind that he's cute but the draw on misunderstanding part is just a little bleh to me. For the part that I've read it's essentially 'MC runs into this supernatural thing and is perfectly okay b/c he's OP.' then 'ML comes in last minute to 'protect' and 'save' him, or apologize and feel bad that MC was 'scared' or 'in danger'. In general I've tired of comedic misunderstandings, so if you like that sort of thing you might like it.

I like the side character Pei Yu or whatever, who was sort of silly and shameless, but most of the side characters are like that so he doesn't stand out much. I think I'll wait for a bunch of chapters to crop up, then might skim through it if I feel like it. <<less

The first thing to bear in mind when starting to read this novel - it’s not a horror story, the labels and name of the novel might be misleading. There are some elements of horror, but not much of it and tbh not very thrilling or exciting.

What I liked?
I would say that the main hallmark of this novel is the gossip inside the Xuanxue community, how it spreads etc. It’s funny to read, and helped to progress the plot. Also, I like strong MC who does not need to... more>> rely on ML all the time.

Now to the sad part:

1) I felt like author did not bother to think how this Celestial masters community is represented in other parts of the world except from China, as there are definitely some events that should have attracted attention worldwide... so the world building lacks in my opinion.

2) ML is just so detached from reality... this character is very similar to ML from The Earth is Online, non-talkative, super-powerful, caring and protective. Well ok, the personality is nice even if secondary, but all this stuff about being completely unaware of relationship between people in general, accepting this fiancée at once without any doubts... it feels too unrealistic even with all the explanation provided by the author. Facepalm. It’s not like I read novels for reality-check, but this part of ML character is completely far-fetched and made him look kind of s*upid. There are certain things in life that should be questioned...

3) “Wife”. Can someone please explain me why ML calls MC his “wife” all the time? Is this some sort of fanservice or kink? I really don’t get it. Even if ML is completely clueless about relationship and stuff, ok, he should possess some basic vocabulary though.

After reading half of the novel I’ve dropped it and just looked through some of the chapters to check out the ending. No regrets. <<less

Dropped. The biggest c*ckblocker to feeling any romance is the whole ghost master world.

If you're the type to find too many of the anon online comments to be annoying, I don't recommend this book. Because instead of anons it's worse, it's people who are supposed to be "celestial masters" selling out the MC/ML and constantly gossiping and creating rumors about the ML for money while prejudicing against him bc he's "too scary aka op" to get along with.... Ok.

It killed any sense of interest I had in this novel which... more>> is such a shame bc in the beginning it had the makings of a seriously interesting paranormal romance but everything slowly went downhill after Pei came in. It was like the author tried to make this comedic in the most basic way possible which ruined the whole romance. If you don't care about the constant people around them creating gossip for money, then maybe this could be good. It just bothers me too much. <<less

Not sure if it's because it's just the beginning or if the whole story is like this, but I really wouldn't call it all that horrifying. The comedic undertone is really strong in this, it's more like satire? I don't know how to define it to be honest. Yes, there are some pretty gory descriptions of ghosts and malicious spirits, but there's no tension you usually feel in horror stories. Both the MC and ML are strong enough to defeat or hold back the ghosts for long enough for reinforcements... more>> to arrive, the ghosts are such a small threat it's bemusing. Perhaps it'd be more appropriate to call this comedy with a horrific undertone? But the story is more focused on romance than comedy. Comedic romance with horrific undertone? Plot driven comedic romance with horrific undertone? Horror plot driven comedic romance? Something like that.

It's not a bad thing, but the humor and warm feelings tend to overpower the fear and anxiety so adjust your expectations and just enjoy the story is my advice.

That said, I can't say I personally love this story. I definitely enjoyed reading this but the comedy aspect is something I rather dislike. I'm not an expert but if I had to say, the comedy comes from the Xuanxue's, that is the ghost hunters or Celestial Masters society's, frankly disgusting lack of personal privacy. The characters in story don't really care about it but I really freaking hate it because I personally value privacy very highly. Especially because, as of chapter 23, our MC is not even part of the ghost hunting community or even wants to be. He just wants to be a normal freaking person. The whole thing is so over the top sometimes and I just can not. Care. Less. About those gossiping old geezers or those incompetent af younger generation. I would so much, much, much rather read about our adorable af ML wooing our lovely af MC and their awesome freaking ghost slaying skills. Honestly. Fellow user Victuuri Road said that this story reminded them of Natsume Yuujinchou and I'm just like, seriously hoping over here. Ugh. <<less

It's funny, but gets a bit stale afterwards. While it's vaguely interesting and cute to watch the male lead fawn over normal day life, the episodic arcs are rather repetitive and don't really go anywhere. Even the master's gossip hijinx, despite being funny at first, gets old after a while. Without that tension in an underlying plot, tense individual plots, or a more complex relationship between the leads, it's quite easy to lose interest between the lulls of comedy.

Not a bad novel, but I have a difficult time being... more>> invested in it. <<less

The ML, I mean really, he is so~~~ PURE (of heart and mind, though they do papapa, he's just the purest cinnamon roll everrrrr). Which one of you moderator put in the horror tag?? There is no horror vibe at all, just some simple words that say there's a "scary" ghost but the horror vibe isn't there. And there's so many unnecessary chat bubble within the novel that it's painful to read.

Tbh this is a good read. Especially if you're interested in China's history and of course have some idea about Chinese ghost (for example, Jiangshi the hopping vampire lol) so this book didn't just tell us about Ghost Master Xi's fortunate/unfortunate circumstances of having a body with extreme Yin and his engagement slowly unfolding, but also tell us about How Human heart and character could be more horrible than a Malicious Ghost, how Human heart would know how to accept punishment and suffering after learning... more>> the truth and accepted it's fault. How Genuine feelings or intention would not always be reciprocate and in the end would cause harm and endless suffering.

This book is not all about a romantic story, not all about ghost hunting and history, it's a mixture of those, and for that reason I could say that I like it. And I had fun reading it. So thank you Author and translator. 💗

PS: When I read the Arc about Chang'An and the first Emperor of China, I was like, NOOOOO DON'T DISTURB HIM.

Ah well, now I could see him in a different light. 🤣 Anyways, this is fictional so I strongly advice NOT TO DISTURB HIM ok? Let him sleep for all eternity. (Besides, who knows? Maybe he's really awake and just busy having fun with his concubines lol) so give it a try guys, read it slowly and take your time. Good night. 🙏🏻 <<less

I like these dorks so much, the ML is this kind of tall rich handsome OP guy but is actually a very sweet and purehearted awkward potato. Now I know we got that kind of ML all the time, but the author justified his action and his awkwardness pretty well based on ML's childhood.

He's not neurotic and a downright sicko like most MLs are, he regarded his ridiculous master's words as law and treated MC with utmost concern and asked for his consent on almost everything.

And the MC balanced him... more>> well, being this strong one punch man kinda guy (on ghosts) and more outspoken than ML (albeit kinda awkward too).

I don't know why I'm so late in finishing this short story. It really took me days.

Genre wuxia, ghost fantasy is almost 80% of this story with 20% sweet romance. But really it doesn't feel heavy, not a light and refreshing story, but this story is also fun.

Like one of the comments you read earlier, our ML King of Hell Ye is absolutely the WORST ML I've ever read 😭😭 He's really very chaste 😭😭 Really, he's very sweet in his own way 😭😭😭

Our MC is also adorable, he has... more>> a sad past, but the story is explained in a simple way, so there is no annoying conflict. They got together quite late, but it was worth it! They got together without any sudden coercion, and spread shameless sugar.

They look OP but in a non-OP way 😂 their world is built in a magical way, and their world works in a ridiculous way. Really, a lot of money has no value in their world...

It's not a perfect piece, but it's one sweet candy for your daily mood. <<less
