I've finished reading this novel a long time ago.

While its narrative was not good enough to compel me to re-read it again, I remembered that its premise was interesting. The characters, too. A girl who was a successor to an evil sect leader met a widely acclaimed nice gentleman of Jianghu. After twists and turns, as the two walked in distinctly different path, will they be able to be together? The man was sly (in a good way), and the girl is no pushover either. And there are plenty humors... more>> to make you laugh.

If the novel's done well, it could probably be something like Demoness Is Not Evil which similarly a short wuxia story with strong female lead. However, Gentleman Free-Flowing Cloud's plotting and narrative left much to be desired. The result was a somewhat mediocre novel. If I have to rate it... it's probably around 3.... <<less

It’s not a great story but it is solid and makes an enjoyable read. The charm of the story lies in the female lead, while its weaknesses are her leading men and her interactions with them.

The MC, Wang Yun, is a young girl who grew up in a very hostile and competitive environment (the Bai Ming sect) and consequently doesn’t have anyone she trusts or any way to express herself, only avoiding conflict and enduring her situation. Consequently, she has little trust in those around her, including Gong Sun Yun whom she met once in the prologue 6 years prior and He Ziu, the s*ave who she grew up with.


Similarly, He Ziu appears subservient to her on the surface but maintains his own will and determination, although his character wasn’t particularly developed. In comparison, Gong Sun Yun normally appears cold to outsiders but is dedicated and warm towards those he trusts and regards as family.

Plot

WY is the left protector of her sect and one of the two possible candidates for leadership, with the current master g*ooming her for succession through a series of harsh tests. In the story, she escapes with HZ to attend his father’s funeral and they are escorted back by GSY who harbours feelings for her from their encounter in the prologue.


During this journey, her master planted mines and the MC falls off a cliff while the male leads were rescuing their family members. Having expected to eventually be abandoned by them and end up alone, she is not surprised but is disappointed as she has never had anyone to truly rely on. She then decides to turn her life around and rely on others so they’d also value her.
GSY finds her and takes her back to his sect, nursing her back to health, while HZ returns to the sect to wait for her return. During this period she starts developing feelings for GSY, until her master schemes to expose her from her hiding place and to bring her back to the sect.

While WY is a strong and likeable character whose personality is justified given her situation, I found her relationships in this story somewhat lacking. Her interaction with HZ didn’t seem to have an element of romance, nor did they develop strong familial ties. Instead they seemed mainly to exist alongside each other. While her relationship with GSY progressed rather fast, given her character and could’ve been more fleshed out more. The story had a strong start, however the author seemed to rush through the middle and end, skimming over relationships and character development. It could’ve easily gone for another 5 chapters to develop HZ and her master as characters, and her relationship with GSY. <<less

So the FL was basically used by the ML the entire novel and somehow was okay with it? I'm sorry but forgiving to the point of having no bottom line just made the FL seem like a naive doormat. Her so-called "endurance" was moronic which only amounted to unnecessary pain. All for a mediocre ML who couldn't even be bothered to not be duplicitous and manipulative to the woman he supposedly "had in his heart." All the hardship fell on the FL's shoulders and even towards the end it was... more>> her who took the initiative to steal away the ML's "innocence." I'm just trying to understand where exactly is the good in all of this. The ML may as well not have existed with the amount of times that the FL saved herself from life or death situations. This was such a let down especially after reading The Demoness is not Evil. The FL in that story was so refreshingly blunt and wise. She made no qualms about being showing that she was neither a saint nor the devil and absolutely made no concessions for an indecisive ML. Not to mention the ML actually made the effort to chase after the FL with no complaints, unlike the wishy-washy ML in this story.

Minus three stars for the plot and character development, but two stars for the translation. <<less

It is a good novel, liked FL and ML's character, though the reason for ML taking a liking to FL was simple, that simple reason started a beautiful relationship.

In c9, really everything was made by the author as a disaster where you even forget where is the place which took action, and what was uncomfortable for me was that the author wrote the FL in this chapter with "no endurance " to lust... FL drugged ML then herself, but actually, (...) and yea beast time, at least they only told it and not detailed it... still uncomfortable tho.

I do recommend it if you are in for a novel with cautious IQ FL, IQ ML, and ancient china sects.

It’s unusual, short story with complex characters and really good character development. Author tried to flash out their mentality very well and that is the biggest plus for me.

It has plotline that is little bit silly and simple but at the same time, it is logical and believable. Also, MC and ML are smart. Really smart and their relationship is built on patience, understanding and real affection despite past errors which finally portrait healthy and good relationship. That’s the second reason I like this novel so much despite its shortcomings... more>> in other areas. <<less

Great story! It was short but kept me engaged and it made me tear up a couple of times. It was a little confusing in some parts but nothing too difficult to figure out. A happy ending. Definitely worth reading again in the future.

For some of the first story, I thought that the story is kinda heavy. Not good if the purpose to read is for entertain.

But actually this is good!

Not as heavy as I thought. The plot is kinda interesting, maybe because I've never put any expectation of this story. And the MC and ML not s*upid, because I hate s*upid character.

I recommend you to read this of you like smart character although sometime you will get annoyed because of her

4.5 stars rounded down to 4.

Contrary to other reviewers, I actually really liked this novel, and I think it is quite memorable. The one thing I agree with though, is that the novel would have benefited from more chapters and fleshed out plot.

The MC is really unique, as she isn't bloodthirsty or revenge-seeking like other heroines in Wuxia novels. Her motto is "endure, endure, endure!" I really love her character, while also pitying the way she had to live her life, which is always being on guard and never trusting... more>> anyone besides herself. What she lacks in martial arts/power, she makes for it with wits and cunning. The wordplay between her and the ML were hilarious and fun to read about.

The ML isn't as unique as the MC, but his character was well-portrayed enough that I found myself liking him and shipping him with the MC. His personality works very well with the MC's, and I could see why she decided to trust him. What I find bothersome is how the novel is titled after him, even though I feel that the novel is more about the MC's character development, as she originally distrusts everyone and then learns to accept her "family."

There is another ML, though I feel that he drew the short-end of the stick due to the novel's short length. Don't worry though, this story does not have a love triangle.

What I really like about this novel is how everything that happens has a deeper meaning. Words really aren't wasted, hence why this novel manages to be so interesting despite its length. Some readers might feel like the novel is confusing or vague due to the way the author writes, but as long as one sticks with the novel, things will start to make sense.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who wants a short story that still manages to portray good character development and fun bantering between the MC and ML. <<less

I actually liked and appreciated the characterization of our main lead. The character growth from "enduring to not enduring" made my heart cry a bit of tears. Of course, I would have liked it better if the author had made the story a bit longer towards the end. ^^ A good story.

I feel like this one is all over the place. Characterization is also inconsistent. And I simply didn’t like any characters in this book.

Overall, it’s an ok short read. Anyone looking for romance in wuxia setting with a bit slice of life element here and there might wanna take a look.

A typical wuxia jianghu themed novel.

The male lead is a two-faced gentleman who is pure and abstinent on the outside but a complete simp for the female lead. Gong Sun Yun is the renowned 'Gentleman' who "gets" conquered by a Demoness.

On the other hand, Huang Fu Yun's backstory is much more interesting and complicated. Her relationship with He Zai is another unique feature of this novel. Most of the time, the position of He Zai is often left to the male lead of the novel. But here, it is much... more>> different. Her main motto is to endure to the end. Surviving is her one and only goal and for that she doesn't even know the feeling of losing control.

All in all, it's a good bingeworthy short novel. Except one little scene, there is no action. The writer decisively skips it. But that's okay as the complexity of emotions of the FL and the devoted pursuit of the ML make up for thr rest. <<less

5/10 the plot kinda have much more potential but the writing style @.@ so frking hard to grasp what the author trying to say. FL bg story is tough and it would have been better portrayed in a different narrative

i loved this story and I re-read it over and over again

really, , , this story just really make my day, when I finish another novel I always want to read this story again..

maybe you have to read 1st chapter again after you finish the whole story just to read that another mistery just lingering in the sentence that you missed the meaning...

the story just heart warming and happy ending for everyone with the plot twist in the end for the head sect

The story is quite good. No prolonged drama and happy ending for MC and ML. But there's cons:

  • The structure of words used in the story is pretty hard to understand, so I have to read comments for some further explanation...
  • Dude, I still cannot really forgive both ML and Hei Zei at the cliff's incident... MC is really a kind person who can forgive both of them... I mean, it's true that it's not their fault for saving other person first before MC since MC is not their family. But to fall in love with someone who hurt your heart? I will not fault them but I won't likely open my heart to both of them. Luckily MC is not like me at all.
Overall I would give story 3.5 stars

This story was a gem. I'm glad I found it accidentally. MC was adorable yet pitiful at the same time while ML was typical of cold and aloof gentleman who only melted in front of MC. The plot was quite simple and enjoyable and it was also well-written even though it was only 10 chapters. Sometimes there's also a confusing chapter but the translator remarks were very helpful to help me understand the chapter without a need to re-read it again.

I put off reading this story since I felt that with 10 chapters the story is a bit short. I was WRONG! This was a very good read. I enjoyed it a lot and I am sorry I didn't read it sooner.

This is a fun story, light and easy to digest. Although it only have 10 chapters it does not feel hurried at all. True, it could be longer but having it short works well just the same.",)

The novel was average and didn't leave much impact on me apart from how awesome it could've been if it was expanded. However, it's worth a shot if you're looking for something to kill time and get the gears going off in your head.

The MC is a great character who literally just "endures" everything. I liked the concept of her character and how the author develops her given the shortness of the novel. The side characters also have their positives but were a bit bland (apart from the second male... more>> lead). Romance is there but it doesn't quite come in until the later part of the story which is alright considering the length of the novel in itself.

My only issue is that some chapters I had to read perhaps twice or thrice before I understood what exactly was going on and what every action meant. The narrative was good and had lots of potential but fell short due to the shortness of the novel.

Overall: A rating of 3/5

Would I recommend it: Yes, if you're looking for something to pass the time. <<less

This was one of the earlier novels I read. It is light heart, interesting, and entertaining in each chapter. I loved the interactions between the FL and ML. I definitely recommend if you have free time to kill, doesn't want to bother with a tragedy, and want some laughs.
