This series was pretty good. Lots of misunderstandings and failing to fail moments from the prince. I'm really loving this story so far.

A bit disappointed on the translator's website though. Tried to comment on the translator's site and I couldn't find any place to post. Tried to subscribe with my email and it failed over and over again.

This novel delivers. I think this is the only LN that can stand equal with Realist Hero in terms of Kingdom Building. I always loved smart MCs because it's interesting to see what he chooses to do in a certain situation.

First off, the story. You have the general medieval feels. What interests me is, the absence of magic. While I don't have a problem personally, medieval feels without magic hits closer to our world (earth) so it's a plus for me.

Illustration? Oh boi. Gorgeous.

Character Development? There's not much since it... more>> has so many timeskips and we're still early on the story, but the relationship among MC and main heroine was.. I don't know how to say it, but even though it's hardly romantic
Spoiler

well I can see that they both have feelings for each other, but it seems for now both of them knew that they can't just marry each other, because of the difference between social status (which is more realistic considering even at our world back then, Kings won't just simply marry a commoner) which made me think that one of the reasons MC wants to throw away his prince / regent status was for Ninym, only a specualtion atm tho.

[collapse]
at the same time they said lines that are easily my 'top 10 anime romantic quotes'. Heck maybe top 3.
Spoiler

No jokes man my heart literally stopped when he said "Ninym is my heart" and even said such things as "How can I die while I leave my heart behind?" That's so Fkin cheesy

[collapse]

Overall, it's worth a try to read if you love kingdom building, even more when you're a fan of Realist Hero like me. And it's definitely worth the money, since legally you can only read this by buying the novel from Yen Press. <<less

I really wanted to like this but it just can't compare to other novels like "I'm the evil Lord of an intergalactic empire", the MC's just a bit too Gary Stu and it becomes a story of a perfect Prince capable of succeeding in everything but selling his country.

Wow! This novel actually got serialized into a LN and even getting an anime adaptation. This novel is basically the culmination of the worst Japanese tropes put into fantasy novel.

Lets first start with the characters. They're awful. The MC is apparently of course, a genius that can remember each and everyone's faces in an 10, 000 strong army, yet acts like a adolescent 90% of the time. Similarly, his love interest is an extremely capable advisor, yet she also is smitten like a 15 year old girl that can't tell... more>> her feelings.

I get it. It's a fantasy misunderstanding comedy novel. But, this cognitive dissonance is insane. On one hand, the MC is flippant, facetious, and teasing his advisor, acting like an average middle school student, and on the other hand, he's leading an entire army to battle where there were thousands of casualties. He's witnessing carnage and blood, and is there any reaction? The female lead, again, leads an army and decapitates the enemy like it's nothing, and you're telling me they're back to bantering and talking like high school students the next day? There's no descriptors at all. The novel states that the advisor "killed and decapitated the general" and never mentions it again. Or how about, "the soldiers were now 5, 000 to 5, 000, " implying that 3000-4000 soldiers were now killed, yet each situation and scenario only got a sentence attributed to them. It's insane.

This sort of thing would be a lot more acceptable if lets say, the MC and his advisor were the president and vice president of a school committee or something, because that's what they act like. Instead, they're the king and imperial advisor, yet 99% of the dialogue and interactions are as if it were in a rom-com in a slice of life high school setting. The misunderstandings have little to no buildup, and they conversations, execution, and aftermath are so rushed in order to progress a story I have no care for. There's nothing that's well done about the novel. <<less

I normally don’t like misunderstood protagonist. However this one is quite interesting. It’s not the type that MC is doing some incompetent thing but result in a good way. MC do use his head. He devise a great plan but it dose not result in the thing he want and benefit the country instead. All in all it’s a good read.

Great example of the problem with “genius” characters, they can only be as smart as the author. Strikes me as the type of story written by a 14 year old pseudo-intellectual who thinks they know everything.

The problem is writing style. It's just tell but not show. There's a little element of surprise and many of convenient of good luck despite MC moaning over how shitty the situation it's. Don't expect great tactic/mind games. Or you will be disappointment. It's not bad but not great read either. The strong point in the novel is the humor elements. But at the best is slap-stick comedy and misunderstood protagonist. It's getting boring fast. Don't expect it to be great read but it's not bad if you're bored enough.

Great stuff. A story of a brilliant guy managing to outwit his enemies in a complex and always shifting political landscape. Interesting characters, brilliant strategies, comical turns of events, what else do you need? I had a great time reading this novel and I hope to see a lot more of it.

Before you read this LN, if you are here for a) Hoping for smart protagonist working to raise his country like Realistic Hero and/or b) beautiful illustrations; you're better off not reading it. For the former, the title is misleading since the MC wants to do anything but raising his country out of debt and for the latter, you should go read the physical/digital official translated volumes which are ahead of fan translation groups:- Moonru (i) neworks and Read (MT) LNovel. The former fan translation has few errors but has... more>> posted chapters in WN format with no illustrations (may he rot in hell) while the latter is MTL translated (him too).

Now on to the review:- The story is less focused on strategic ingenuity of MC and leans more towards comedy. The prince of Natra, Wayne is said to be the genius prince who worked for lifting Natra from debt to Golden Period during his reign. However, his actual motive is to sell the country and live the life of luxury with nothing to worry about, of which only a few are privy to it, including his aide Ninim. Ninim is the FL (although there are a bunch of potential harem members) whose job is to assist and set straight the prince who wants to slack off, often using physical means to do so. She belongs to the race Fulhan, who are characterised by white hair and red eyes, and are treated as subhuman species outside Natra.

The MC is smart enough to outsmart his enemies and think of winning strategies even when he finds himself in pinch. Time and time again, he has proved it but it's also the truth that he is considered to be more clever than he actually is. Each volume begins with his plan to sell his country and after careful planning, just when he is about to succeed in it, something unexpected happens and he is forced to deal with it which results in unintentional elevation of his status as a genius prince once again (not really) working for his country. Almost every volume ends up with him lamenting and renewing his determination to sell his country.

While the story is interesting enough, it also goes on a monotonous pattern: Wayne plans to sell his country, fails due to unexpected situation and just when he is in pinch, a messenger comes in bringing some news and Wayne immediately concotes a plan based on the messenger's message (At this point, I am actually considering the idea that the messenger is secretly a God helping him whenever he is in pinch). Sure enough, to think of a plan on foot is really commendable however that every volume follows this pattern is a huge minus.

Or so I would have liked to believe until this popped up:

Spoiler

He has been long since considering the idea of destroying noble's powers in every country. For this reason, he wrote a book aimed at them which fuels their ego of noble pride with the actual objective of making them weak by treating managing finance as unsightly, thereby leading to collapse of their power because of their inability to manage funds. He spoke to Guryel about his true objective (unknown to readers) which makes the latter sweat. However judging by how he gets flared up whenever Fulham are ill treated, I bet his idea is something along the lines of destroying the religion responsible for it, especially the western part of continent.

[collapse]

This made me rethink that if he is really wanting to sell his country when he had such grand schemes planned right from his childhood or is it merely an act? As such, I would reserve my opinion on his true objective and rate it 4 stars; 0.5 stars deducted for the same pattern of actions and 0.5 stars for Japanese authors thinking it's funny to always, always include Female character hitting on MC whenever he acts silly (I am sick of this trope). I sense potential in this story and might change it to 5 stars if future volumes manages to give a good true objective of MC. <<less

This story has heavy politic element, fortunately the author manage to bring enjoyable story that doesn't feel too light.

You will meet a competent prince in a poor and harsh (environment) country. What I think will make most people feel irritated is that the prince want to sell his own country and act as a lazy bum even when he is actually competent. In regard of this we can actually see that the prince has a good grasp over his own country capabilities and wealth. And realizes that his country can... more>> only stagnant even without the interference from western countries and eastern empire conflict. The author also seem to implies he actually has another agenda as to why he want to sell his own country.
Spoiler

There's a great racial discrimination over the western country and mostly the whole continent about Fulham, and the prince's aide (Ninim Raleigh) (main heroine?) seems to hold a special position in his heart and he want to protect her and destroy those discrimination

[collapse]

Another highlights to this novel is that you can see an interesting side of a prince who actually want to laze and just avoid work. He has great capabilities over domestic and foreign affair, a genius in strategy, gallant and smart in military and also has a good grasp over people emotion and intents. He can easily put aside his pride and honor if that benefit him, in exception when his aide (Ninim Raleigh) is insulted or harmed. Maybe this side of him would make some people say something along the line "why would you even try to sell your own country when you are that capable, idiot?!" or "how selfish of you trying to do that!" but all in all the story is good and enjoyable.

The story progress with the prince scheming to gain his own benefit but by many twist and turn and he end up being looked upon his people as a wise and benevolent ruler. Most of his scheme fall into disarray because of misunderstanding or an accident he brought upon himself. But the author doesn't make other character act like they only have the intelect of drunken idiot that act as a fool to make others look good. Of course the author doesn't potray all characters as a smart and genius but he potray characters from a fair points, a foolish noble as a foolish noble and a genius princess as a genius princess.

As for the translation, I can see translation error here and there but mostly it's a typo and few in number. The grammar, (well I'm not that bright about grammar so let's put that aside). A complain to the translator would be update frequency but I'm a free reader so it's not like I have a say to that.

A good and amusing novel. My recommendation. <<less

This novel is the definition of "task failed successfully" or that saying from some famous guy "give a problem to a lazy person, he or she will find the quickest method to solve it"

The MC here is definitely a lazy person, selfish, and a coward. But, he's also smart and cunning, so that those negative traits didn't show on his subordinates. Because of his talent and understanding of his own country, he knew full well that his country can't be saved, so he proceed to make up his lose and... more>> run. He just didn't expect hand of god saving his country just by pure damm luck lol. It didn't help when MC is actually a very competent guy.

All his schemes to sell his country fast and retire early worked, but it worked too well or some hand of god intervene so his effort can be interpreted as him doing it for the country. Definitely a good read, at least 4 and at best 4.5. But I will give it 5 since a good misunderstanding comedy that didn't made you want to bang your head to the wall is rare. <<less

It's fun for a while but it peters off around volume four. The story has the same rinse and repeat cycle and it gets boring, just when you think the author is going to give another character some development they find a way to slap the MC back in to situation even when he's not needed. So, fun for a while but becomes drudgery that doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Hey

This novel is pretty good. It's the story of a genius prince, who doesn't want to take the throne, but have no choice. He is always involved in diplomatic problem with other big country, and forced to take action.

The comedy is good, and the romance is very good. The MC is very close to his lover, and everyone know it. Sadly, at this moment, she's a commoner.

The plot is pretty good, not too complicated, not too simple.

You'll enjoy it, so go read it :)

It's really has similarity to "I'm the evil lord of Intergalactic Empire" - ish. Its funny and author have added some seriousness according to plot. The characters are lovely and has decent amount of grey matter. There is some serious plot lurking behind the scenes as the imperial Princess pointed out in vol02 epilogue.

Overall great read.

I like the story and where it is going. MC is strong and quite a schemer. There are also many instances where MC messes up due to some unfortunate accidents which are actually quite funny but MC is able to turn it into his advantage. Translators are doing a great job translating all those funny and serious moments.

I really like the way the author is progressing the story and giving us the sneak peak towards MC's grand ambition and the steps he has taken towards achieving it.

I really like this... more>> novel and looking forward to read latest translating quickly <<less

I love the MC, although he IS flawlessly logical and thinks trough most scenarios, and IS a genius and the frikken best, the Author manages to go ahead and use this to make a novel where you're NOT SURE what the F is going to happen.

Because, the author is extremely good as using the storytelling device of "Take everything to the ultimate consequence".

The way the MC thinks things trough is PERFECT, but nothing is boring because he isn't always RIGHT.

It's a fine balance between having such an OP hero and... more>> using that hero in a way that things don't stagnate or get boring.

This is the main focus of the novel which is why I focused so much on it BUT.

The characterizations and chemistry between the characters is also incredibly good.

Although... I disliked some plot devices typical of japanese authors to create tension (like introducing a character and having that character be a mystery for a couple of chapters until you're told the backstory trough a flashback) even then I found that it was... excusable because it's just a matter of going ahead and reading the flashbacks before the introduction of the character which would make MORE SENSE in a storytelling structure and would relieve the fake tension brought by the character.

Everything is there, it's just jumbled up to create fake tension on the reader which I greatly dislike.

but anyway... go ahead and read this It's a gem, a genuine gem. <<less

A great read. For the longest time I’ve always hated glorified dumb MC, who can only stand out by having brain dead side characters to play with. This novel have non of that, all named characters are interesting. World building is consistent with an ongoing plot that actually moved on it’s own without having MC to involve himself.

I thought this would be a light story but it's surprisingly heavy on politics and intricate manoeuvres. The best part is, the prince's schemes are really believable and you buy that he really is a genius. I like the central characters around the prince too.

Only problem I have, is like another review mentioned: there's too much repetition. Every volume it's mostly another crisis of war and how the prince has to solve it and save the day. This part gets a little repetitive.
