It was a beautiful story on the realistic side of cheating/adultery in a relationship and how it can never be mended back once broken. The only sad part was how MC felt that he had no way out but to die to escape ML. He does not seems to be suicidal throughout the story so I'm sure if he tried hard enough he could relive his life and find love again. Never give up!

I am never forgiving this story for giving me heartache. It’s like bananafish, even mention of this story is enough to make me sad. I was like “ok now dump the guy and live ur life and never ever return”. Too bad no one can hear me in the stories. I hate ML not bc he is a cheater but bc the way he couldn’t let MC get away from his bs.

When I planned to read it I thought it would be some sob story but no I was pleasantly surprised. Infact I was even happy I with all the characters I loved this so much. Characters usually have a lot of emotions but here's the thing even emotions have a lifespan and this dealt with how it died out something that nobody does. It is quite realistic so human, those final outburst are so in character because it is the last puffs of smoke before fire gives out.

I knew it I should not have read it. I got this feeling when I was in early chapters that I should not continue reading it🥺

... more>> I am about to be 20 and never in love once till now, so I don't understand why they could not let go. It was clearly going in a wrong direction, but they still hold on each other. But it really hurts reading it.

I felt bad for MC, don't know why he chose su*cide 🥺🥺🥺 He was still too young, u got a lot of things in life, I know sometimes it's hard to let go but eventually u have to for urself and for the others as well. Later for ML I felt bad, I know he was an as*hole but anyway it pains me. Sometimes it's not painful for someone who die but for the one who live, he will be living his entire life in self blame and regre. No one deserved it though and he loved MC Or may be not but was just used to him. Now I think I won't be reading tragedy genre any more.

Dont know what was in the extras about Wen bai, was he like ML as well.

i love angst tags but this novel just doesn't seem well written to me and none of the characters are well defined here and the writing seems like forced angst for the mere purpose of arousing strong feelings in readers. There is no back story or character description of any of the characters and the only purpose behind their actions seem to be there to supplement the angst tag. The ML even till the end of the story is unable to decide whether he loves the MC or not as... more>> is mentioned in one of the last few chapters where ML thinks that he himself doesn't know whether he loved MC in last twelve years and MC seems immature although I am a bit sympathetic to him (not much sympathetic though) but he has been making wrong choices throughout the story so everything is his own decision at the end of the day. Honestly I am even unable to picturize MC as a real person because his character description is shallow and and the only purpose of his presence in this story is to suffer so I don't even want to describe the lacking in the plot as there is no well developed plot.i am giving it 3 stars because atleast this novel is worth writing a review for, that means it has the ability to leave some impression in your mind. <<less

A good tragedy novel. Short, bitter, and sad.

As a reader, I feel like it makes me think about life and relationships in general. As someone who never fall in love, I rarely get the exact feeling and the reason characters like this choose to stay instead of just walking away. But this novel can paint that picture beautifully to the point that I can get a glimpse of the reason why.

at the partially end point I really started full on sobbing for mc

for people who say oh he's so s*upid he should've left when he could

its the only form of release MC could find and he finally took it. Release goes both ways. Its not a bad, its still release, he was free just in a different way from what most people would choose. But its not really happy either.

MC wasn't s*upid, I think that's just how people work

Aisshh, so beautiful. Wen qing was so miserable. So, so miserable ah. So many chances. I wonder if ML ever found out about MC knowing all the BS since the start? Maybe he did. Better if he did. He did right? Anyways. Would defo recommend this! I'm gonna try to find other works of this writer all the works seem to be melancholic haha.

Really loved Wen Qing (MC) and Wen Bai.

Not to forget, really HATED Yan Han (ML). His apologies are so not from the bottom of his heart, more of just trying to placate Wen Qing as if he's a child and is in need of some coaxing.

I for real think this story is a HE because I think after all of this, it would be really mean and disgusting to make Wen Qing survive and continue living. His heart and mind needs a break from everyone, not just Yan Han but also Wen Bai. So him falling off the rooftop though made me really sad, but at the same time, I can totally understand the decision he made. I just hope he gets a better future in his next life.

It was beautiful. This tragedy is just that, a tragedy. Many might say that there was this option or one character could have done that, so on and so forth. The reality of it is this work being too close to truth. What the author perfectly managed to display in their work was reality itself. It has elements that people can’t accept because they believe that one should do this or that, but in retrospect no one does what anyone else believes is of accordance. This story is just downright... more>> beautiful and perfect, it’s a must read!! No nonsensical text and everything has great meaning. It’s honestly one of the best tragedy stories I have ever read. I will reread this every time I want to be sad or am in the mood for some tragedy. I’m not making light of the issues and topics this work deals with, I just appreciate how well written and thoughtful this work is pertaining to those regards (topics and issues). Wen Qing was stuck; a relationship that lasted for twelve years and very little time for himself at this point. His past firm belief in his partner Yan Han would one day stop all the debauchery he (Yan Han) indulged himself (Yan Han) in because they were together for so long. But he no longer held onto that belief. In the end he held onto nothing because he didn’t think there was anything left of his to want to hold onto.

Wen Qing isn’t wrong for wishing for Yan Han to stop all his sh*t but he got tired of everything. He wasn’t even fed up, he just wanted to leave. He still loves Yan Han but not to the extent that he used to feel. The reason for his ultimate inability to leave Yan Han steams from that fact that Wen Qing had rendered himself helpless. He couldn’t leave because he now no longer had the ability to leave Yan Han, regardless of the means to survive on his own. Wen Qing had every ability to take care of himself, he just knew that Yan Han would never let him leave.

Yan Han is selfish, while Wen Wing is selfless. It was far too late for Wen Qing to turn and be selfish for his own good because he no longer had the ability to escape the clutches of this relationship. Yan Han has all the money and power to enable himself (Yan Han) to act in the way he does. He can have everything he wants and believes that it isn’t him that’s the issue if something he wants can’t happen. Wen Qing knowing this had chosen the option he choose in the end.

The time Wen Qing spent with Wen Bai was probably an escape to the past. The past when he and Yan Han were in love and had mutual respect for one another. Before the debauchery. Wen Bai was the little bit of love he could try to remember as being the pure love he once shared with Yan Han. Wen Bai reminded him of the younger Yan Han, that once loved him and only him.

Yan Han only treats Wen Qing as a certainty in life. He may actually love him but his personality and his thought process wouldn’t mean the same as what type of love everyone would expect from their partner. He just believes that at the end of the day Wen Qing loves him and that they will stay together no matter what, regardless of his (Yan Han) own escapades. That is simply because he doesn’t believe that Wen Qing would ever leave him, that’s just an assurance he made by himself. Therefore, projected onto the reality that he lived.

Wen Bai could be seen at the end going into the affair he shared with Wen Qing as just another success of sorts because it was established that he wasn’t serious nor did he understand his emotions of his or others. Especially when it came to love, he didn’t understand how two people can love each other yet never be together. That was until he met Wen Qing. He, unlike Yan Han, remembers Wen Qing to the fullest. Even coming up with fake stories about him just to have a piece his existence around knowing that Wen Qing will never come back. While Yan Han drowns himself back into his life of debauchery, Wen Bai remains with his memories of Wen Qing. It’s to the point where Wen Bai will no longer be with anyone else, while Yan Han will end up with someone else.

This is just reality.

We have all acknowledged that this relationship was toxic. The tragedy in all this was the suffering it caused to Wen Qing because he couldn’t even live and all he wanted at that point was to just live on, but not with Yan Han nor with Wen Bai, regardless of either one’s willingness to do so.

He couldn’t live the life he wanted so he did the only thing he had control over at this moment.

He let go of most of his life for Yan Han, that is why everything was so much harder. He didn’t want Wen Bai to do the same things he or Yan Han had done. That is why he never held onto him. Yan Han will always be the tr*sh person he is, it’s just who he is.

I know this is fictional but to those that have felt the same as Wen Qing, please know that you are not alone and that you can reach out to someone for help.

I pray for Wen Qing’s happiness in another life. I hope he gets reborn and has the relationship he wanted to have and the life he wanted to live.

The author of this story is brilliant, I think they were clarifying with their audience (that couldn’t accept the way this story was flowing) that they may have written this weakly and for them to reread it. This story is a wonderful read and I will always come back to it, but I don’t believe that they wrote this wrongly. I’m an American so I can understand the point the author was making. I believe the author themselves acknowledged that this story would be widely accepted and understood throughly in a more western take (the person reading it be western) because it seems more western like theme. I hope that the eastern audience were able to understand that this is work is actually very thorough with the plot, storyline, and characters. It’s beautifully tragic. It’s better because it had very few unrealistic aspects you would usually see in these types of stories and the message of this toxicity was well conveyed.

This story is perfect so please show the author love and read it. Shoutout to the translators that translated this beautiful work. The translators did a perfect job!!!! <<less

I didn't cry while reading the entire story, I just feel sad about wen qing's last moments. I'm not heartless, I just can't grasp the story, maybe it was how the story was written? I just never feel sad. It's kinda like 10 years that I loved you the most, but of course different, it's just maybe I like the latter's story more? I've read a fair share (not a lot, but some) of tragedy BL with HE/BE, to be honest, the story goes about the same direction, but somehow this read wasn't as satisfying as I thought, probably due to the huge amount of high reviews that my expectations were raised. My mind is a mess and worn out right now after reading the novel, but I feel that I should still leave a short review about it.

Honestly it frustrated me a lot, but at the same time it was very pleasing to read. I read it because it's short and I opted for a dramatic novel, and it satisfied my needs. That no matter how good he is, no matter how he loved the MC, he wouldn't be chosen in the end. Overall, I cried and it was a good read. Pretty similar to The Decade of Deep Love, but it's a completely different story, thus, I have zero regret of reading it. <<less

I like it. Short, simple and have nice pacing. It's about cheating, and when I read the synopsis, I thought of The Decade of Deep Love, but of course these 2 story are different. The ending is what I want and yeah, I like it. The ending is perfect. Didn't cry but I can definitely feel what the MC is going through. I even actually thought it was depressing, and makes me feel like an old auntie that is cynical about the world. LOL. As if I never think about... more>> story like this more than once.

However, I do wish the boys the ML cheated with, along with the ml, to suffer more. I am unsatisfied with how there is nothing bad happen on the boys he cheated with. I am kinda salty about that, like sheesh, I just want them to feel the pain too.

A really different novel from what I am used to reading. I have to really thank the author for capturing human emotions and how are feelings work really well.

I think one needs to be slightly older, and experienced to really understand and 'get' this novel.

There will be moments when the novel, especially the MC, will frustrate you, but you will need to understand, this is how human emotions work. You are reading the novel from the perspective of what's going inside MC's brain.

Although I dont encourage such actions, if you... more>> look from MC's perspective, there was no other way he could really be free and independent and so I dont really think that thr BE is really a BE, I was almost expecting it.

This is a story of the end of a relationship.

Inspite of whatever happened, with Wen Qing, I am really angry with Yan Han as much as I want to be, instead I feel sorry for him. Yes, he was responsible for what Wen Qing did but for me the end is also kind of justified ina very twisted way because Yan Han got what he deserved.

Novels like these are the reason why I still keep browsing through sites even though I've read a considerable amount of works.

I binged read this and I found myself physically shaking as I immersed myself with the characters and the plot.

5/5. The translation is beautiful. The story doesn't drag things out but is still able to make you feel so much for what's happening to the MC. This is a great read for those seeking angst.

Gosh, that hurt my heart. This is too realistic for me, leaving a partner is not as easy as they show in movies. But by the time you completely give up you realize you wasted so much energy, time and emotions on the person that there is no room for forgiveness. I am utterly scared and baffled to say that I empathize with WQ for all the decisions he made along with his masochistic attitude.
