Gaining A Husband After a Memory Loss

After losing his memory to a car accident, Shang Jing stared at the only contact saved in his phone, ‘Hubby’, and fell into deep thoughts.

According to the memo diaries, he was undoubtedly a simp who had submitted to a life of cleaning the house and working part-time to make ends meet after secretly marrying the man of his dreams. To make things worse, not only did this hubby criticize his cooking skills, he was surrounded by scandals and treated him coldly.

Shang Jing: I’ll never simp for him again!

However, when he was handed the hospital bills, he was left with no choice but to once again whip out the phone…

【Hubby (●′ω`●), I’m at the hospital. Come get me.】

Heh. Before we get a divorce, I will make sure to return the pain I’ve been through by a hundredfold!

The award-winning actor, He Jiang, was in the midst of filming when he received a selfie taken in the hospital. The other party had not only addressed him as hubby but had also requested for him to fetch him.

What tricks is he up to?
Looking at the face he had not seen in years, he replied, “Ok.”

After losing his memories, Shang Jing acted as he pleased and wreaked havoc for He Jiang. It was payback time for all the pain he had previously suffered.

He Jiang took it all in with grace and was becoming more and more like a model husband.

But with a cold sneer, Shang Jing continued his preparations for their divorce and asset divisions. Until he received an SMS from a foreign number…

“Can you return my phone to me?”
Turns out, he had mistakenly picked up the phone of a starchaser at the scene of the car accident. The other party was an obsessive fan of He Jiang and what was written in the memo diaries were mere fantasies of hers.

Out of awkwardness, Shang Jing fled the city overnight.
“I’ll never want to see He Jiang ever again in my life!”

He Jiang said with a smile, “Trying to escape after provoking me?”
Fat hope.

The ML (gong) is really sharp verbally (in a not so pleasant way), immature and we'll, not very well portrayed.

The MC is horribly naive, childish (even after his memory comes back) and his behavior is not explainable.

The plot in a nutshell:

Basically, MC's parents had different views and then that slowly escalated into a divorce. His father died. His mother sold his father's family property, took him and the money and flew overseas, met a white man, got married and had a child.

MC was sent to a boarding school by his mom later, where he struggled a lot because of language and later, started to have difficulties in Chinese too. Then, he met a foreign exchange student who hooked him up into dating online with a Chinese actor (ML) for the purpose of improving his Chinese. They dated in the game and one day, the ML came to his school, the ML then (he was 23 then) found out from the MC that he (MC) for only dating him for the sake of learning Chinese. ML, in a childish fit, broke up with the MC and flew back to China.

Three years later, MC goes back to china and on the way, has an accident, gets the wrong phone, meets ml, and the description, except, ML is not really an ideal husband (or a lover).

________

Most of my problem lies here with how the characters are portrayed. The ML who is in his late twenties and is supposed to be mature, is extremely unstable and childish.

The MC, who is also an adult, is dissapointly childish and naive.

The social gap is extremely unpleasant too. The ML is said to have a thriving acting career while the MC is..... nothing. (It's so bad, I got sad).

And when I learned that ML (23) was supposedly dating a highschooler. Ugh.

That's all.

1/5: 1 for giving me psychological sadness.

I have only read about 25 of the translated releases (Chapter 8 part 3 is where I've gotten to) and so far I'm really enjoying the story. Below is an overview of the book so far... it's not really spoilers because you find this out in the first two chapters but I still marked it as such:

Spoiler

The novel starts with our MC waking up in the hospital with complete amnesia after a car accident--he remembers some very tiny snippets of his upbringing but that is it. He finds his phone with him in the hospital and sees that he has written a diary for the past few years and has a "husband" he calls Hubby. We quickly find out from the husband's POV that our MC is not married to him--they broke up a few years ago--but the "husband" doesn't want to mention anything or rock the boat.

Our MC's plan is to make his Hubby pay his medical bills, get a divorce from hubby afterwards and have lots of more from the settlement. So currently our MC is doing that, all while avoiding letting his Hubby know he has amnesia.

[collapse]

Here are my pros and cons of this novel so far:

PROS:

  • It's a fun dynamic between our MC and Hubby.
    • The Hubby is rude but he secretly cares quite a bit for our MC. The MC is funny and rude back.
  • The Hubby's amnesia is intriguing.
  • There is a lot of mystery surrounding the actual nature of MC and Hubby's relationship--leaving the audience on the edge of their seat wondering what is going on.
CONS:

  • Our MC has total amnesia, and he is hiding it from everyone. I'm not really sure how hiding his amnesia from his husband is furthering his (aka our MC's) plans at all. If our MC were to just tell Hubby that he has amnesia from the car accident, he would undoubtedly be treated better and his treatment fees would be paid upfront.
    • Counter argument against this: from the diary our MC found, our MC thinks Hubby is an awful husband that doesn't keep track of/care about his partner at all. Hubby was nonchalant when finding out the MC was in the hospital. While the audience knows these two aren't married, our MC doesnt-- MC thinks he's just an awful husband who already doesn't care about him. Revealing his amnesia would place him in a vulnerable position, and our MC probably thinks Hubby would take advantage of him in a bad way.
  • Our MC isn't a realistic character in the slightest. If I was an amnesia patient, I would be incredibly stressed out. Our MC seems totally casual about his brain injury... He doesn't get stressed by it at all.
    • Lots of web novels have MC's who are extremely oblivious or "s*upid". This is defintely one of those cases. I lean towards our MC being somewhat dumb if he doesn't realize how serious brain trauma is.
Overall, I am sincerely enjoying this novel so much. I look forward to reading the releases every day! I suggest giving this novel a shot. <<less

For once, I don't get the low rate. It's funny, full of surprises, the MC is somehow idiot sometimes, it's fun. Even though it's not very realistic his they met, it's still quite enjoyable to read.

And I don't get the review that said they don't get why the main couple went from dating to happy ending with lack of communication.. maybe you have not read what's between the first chapters and the ending, especially the last ones...

The only regrettable thing is the synopsis. Too much spoiling. Fortunately, I haven't read... more>> it beforehand. <<less

Don't mind the other reviews under this novel. To be honest, I didn't read the reviews and just dove into this upon reading the synopsis. I recommend reading this novel because it's insanely hilarious, well, for me. I was pissed off for an entire week, while this seemed like an ab and eye workout because I cried laughing hard at this. If it's not your cup of tea, then there's no need to bash it so much. Like some other person said in the reviews, the story had its potential.... more>> Let me tell you, I've read stories that could be considered bad to the point of exasperation so I enjoy light-hearted novels like this. <<less

I have a bleeding heart and I will enjoy a novel despite it having bad reviews, but this time it's deserved. I never exaggerate.

Usually misunderstandings are cute and funny, but this one is just dragging and frustrating.

That damn dairy and MC wanting to be a pain in the ass, these 2 things are really annoying and it still won't be solved. All of it, due to a misunderstanding. 47 chapters in and it's till going on. The novel ends in 59 chapters...

MC latter learns he has a music degree and has his skills are top notch concert level. But still does nothing, it's revealed he previously lives in a penthouse, but it never was used in the novel again. Its clear they want to reliant gullible cute MC

Though I can give kudos for a wife simp ML and how he does everything for his wife despite being hurt in the past. MC, you're cute and you can be smart, but you don't use it. <<less

This is so s*upid from the get-go. I don't even know where to begin.

Someone lost his memories and he is more concerned about being a pain in the ass to his supposed husband instead of being honest about his health condition and getting proper treatment.

Someone is supposedly not over his ex-boyfriend whom he loved so much after a few months of online dating, and yet he isn't too concerned that the ex-bf is like a completely different person. Heck, he doesn't even bring him in for proper treatment and is... more>> more concerned about payback. I mean, I get the resentment and the dilemma but really? You claim to love someone but you can't even be bothered to check his medical records after such a huge injury?

I've read plenty of other juvenile and immature novels that I rated high. But this was just so tr*sh and I can only feel sorry for my brain cells that died while reading this. <<less

I guess it was a mediocre novel. If you're looking for a fairly easy read while you throw your brain away then you're right on the money.

However, the plot is really a disaster riddled with holes.

Spoiler

MC and ML's past and current relationship are both weird and vague. They dated online for a few months and then some sh*t happened, communication was absolutely nil, and then uhhh.. Happy ending?

Why is the most liked review the one about mature Characters? Are they really thinking that a late 20's age person is a mature one? LOL You have Elon Musk doing immature things/decisions at his late 50's. If mature thinking doesn't come with age in real life, why do you expect the same from paper characters?

I wrote this review to help me remember which novel this is and the things that I enjoyed from it, so it's just a summary/spoiler of what I've read so far. Please don't judge the informalness lol.... more>>
Spoiler

This is such a funny novel. The MC wakes up in the hospital and doesn't remember anything. He looks through his phone first and finds only one contact that catches his eye. It's titled, Hubby. He's able to go into his notes where he keeps a diary and it details his daily life with his hubby. So, of course, he calls his hubby and tells him he's in the hospital. The only problem is, he isn't actually married to the ML yet, in fact they're actually on somewhat bad terms. But for some reason the misunderstanding continues for long enough that the ML falls in love with the MC and he figures out that something may be wrong with the MC mentally. The MC actually has PTSD and can't play games with the sound on or he'll have insomnia so the ML decides to set him up with one of his friends who happens to be a psychologist without telling him. The MC confesses his memory loss to the psychologist while the ML is hiding nearby and the sockpuppet is exposed along with all of his confusion regarding their relationship. The ML decides that rather than telling the truth though, he'd rather the lies become the truth. He goes to get a marriage certificate without telling the MC so that the MC can divorce him in peace lol. And there's a section where he tells the MC that even though they were married for so long he was wrong for neglecting him. If you think about it, it's kind of messed up that the ML twists the truth like this because that in no way helped the MC recover his memories safely and most definitely impeded him tbh. But he didn't care. And I can't really say that I do either.

To enjoy this novel, I suggest you turn off your brain and lower that IQ abit coz the things that the MC does does make me think this poor chap isnt too bright.
Spoiler

Not sure if this is due to his memory loss but the things he does really wouldn't even cross my mind coz its just not a good idea lmaooo.

The ML is certain a good husband
Spoiler

but also a very short tempered dude when they were still dating online. The dude flew all the way to USA to ensure MC was ok due to a school shooting incident that triggered his childhood trauma. But in the end completely forgot abt it and forced the poor traumatized MC for an answer to his confession. Like dude? 🤣

[collapse]

For the plot, it had alot of unnecessary twist and turns, abit long winded and lacks logic. Story telling can definitely improve and
Spoiler

the revelations of the pasts or abt MC's memory loss was a tad unsatisfying, expected abit more

. The cute side couples were pretty cute, I enjoyed that but towards the middle of the novel, kinda lost interest but still follow through it.

Giving a solid 4 star.

The literal title would be 'mistaking a husband after amnesia' so while the review had a spoiler, I can't really comment on that. And it did kinda help buffering/mentally preparing for the MC's somewhat questionable behaviors.

MC is a fresh graduate, 21-22 y.o, a bit of an airhead. He does have brain, yet it sometimes malfunctioned and he ended up digging his own grave :v

ML is a famous actor, 25-26 y.o, should be the mature one, but I also think he's childish especially facing a younger partner... more>> (maybe because of love?). But he got better as the story progress, at least no longer so bitter about their break-up as he noticed and started to logically analyze MC's oddness.

It's a fun read, has its line of logic and a sweet side CP.

Definitely give it a go, or wait for completion before you binge read. <<less

I read the whole novel in a Chinese webpage, so I might be wrong in a few places, however the story was, in one word, wholesome.

Shang Jing is psychologically traumatized for a few things

Spoiler

1. His father, who was his most favorite person during his childhood- died by gunshot while chasing criminals. 2. A terrorist held him at gunpoint in his school abroad for quite some time with the hope of getting ransome, and after he was released he wasn't given proper aftercare due to language barrier. 3. In his university freshman year, there was gun fire in his dorm, even his window was hit.

[collapse]

So, after Shang Jing came to china, he had accident, and after loosing his memory, he also forgot these traumas that showed up gradually with his memory recovery. We see He Jiang taking care of mental health of SJ in the ways he knew, by consulting psychiatrists, psychologist, whoever he could reach. We can hope for SJ's future recovery through this.

SJ has one characteristic that a lot of readers blamed as naiveness, and that is his insecurity hidden as mischief. SJ suffered from severe insecurity due to loss of his father, departure from his homeland at a young age, sent to boarding school soon after going abroad in a foreign country with foreign speakers, his mother's remarriage and absolute negligence toward her son's mental well-being and starting a new family with a foreigner, casting SJ aside. SJ found solace in He Jiang's Chinese because this language makes him feel at home subconsciously. So cannot be blamed to have taken HJ for granted while playing games. However, at the end of the novel it is explained that SJ loved HJ when HJ has gone to meet him, but he couldn't express it due to his nervousness, his insecurity, his lack of familiarity with newly relearnt Chinese language. His tonguetied condition that made HJ furious was actually unintentional. The moment SJ recovered his sense, HJ has left. That gave SJ a blow but made him determined to come back to China.

Next is ML. Many has called HJ hot-tempered, and even he himself didn't deny it. During his early 20's, his first love for whom he flies to US leaving behind his hecting acting schedule risking bad popularity, says to him that he only dated him to learn chinese better. No one should blame HJ for blowing up there. Chill.

Similarly, if that very ex comes back to him and keeps calling him husband without taking his feelings into consideration, then again, don't blame him for acting immature at times.

However, throughout the novel, HJ is seen keeping an eye out for SJ, taking care of him, despite his inner dilemma.

All in all, it's a good read. There's vague angst due to SJ's childhood experience but overall it is coated with fluff and hilarity. <<less

I tried to give it a shot like the other reviews said but dang does their s*upidity really get on my nerves. I’ll probably wait until it’s nearly completely translated before reading it again because as it is, the characters thoughts and actions all annoy me lmao.

misunderstandings be real yo but just cause you have amnesia doesn’t mean you gotta be that immature oof. And the ml, ditto to you man: why dont you just speak ugh.

on the plus side, translations aren’t bad.

Don't read the reviews if you don't want to be spoiled, some reviews here caused me to be mad. Cause the story has its potential, and they're spoiling it.

If you want to read it just read it don't think about others review cause that's happened to me and honestly I lost potential novels because of it

The story is good and actually funny, MC had an amnesia so you can't really blame him for his behavior. Now the summary half spoiled the story but its great. There's tons of misunderstanding between... more>> MC an ML but its not unbearable. <<less
