Food blogger, Ling Yaoyao, transmigrated into a female supporting character in the interstellar novel “Legend of Huanuo” with the same name as her. She became romantic rival of the heroine with grassroots origin. In the end, she ended up miserably and became the male protagonist’s stepping stone on his road of success.

In order to reverse her cannon fodder fate, Ling Yaoyao gave up the mainstream college degree in pharmaceutical therapy system and chose the very unpopular food therapy system. By the way, she hugged the golden thigh of her God of War brother.

As a result, she accidentally became food assistant therapist specialized in Ancient Chinese cuisine who swept the entire galactic empire.

The original hero who dismissed her, entangled her endlessly. The original heroine who was a rival in love became her obsessive girl friend!

What’s even more strange is that her brother, the God of War, actually has a thought between men and women for her…

Since then, she can’t escape from everyone thoughts!

This novel started with 50% food and 50% romance, but as the novel goes on, it became 20% food, 20% romance and 60% space war.

Some people might not like the novel due to the quasi-in*est storyline, but the FL and ML are not related by blood (that was established in like Chapter 1), she was adopted when he was 12, he entered the army very early, and therefore, they did not grow up together. Later on, ML could tell in an instant when the original Ling Yaoyao and FL switched... more>> back and forth. So the one he loves is FL, and not his "sister".

It was not explained very clearly in the novel, but ML's "love at first sight" is a combination of their high % in compatibility (common in interstellar novel) and just the plot armor in general. It's not that uncommon for main characters to just fall in love with no reason.

If this part already bother you, wait until the cannibalism part. (Yes, it's about space/alien insects, what do you expect? Those aliens eat each other, including their own kind.)

If you can get past the "eww, FL and ML are related", this novel is actually very fun.

For example, I'm very happy that the Ori!FL is not the villain who has to tear faces with the FL, and I'm so happy that she also get her own happiness instead of stuck with the scummy Ori!ML.

There are many funny moments in this novel. For example, when the normal people rushed out from their shelters during the zerg/alien invasion, even though it should have been a catastrophic event, just because they just learned that those zergs taste good.

I'm also happy that FL's friends/family got their own happy endings (even though some CP are still ambiguous, but I still believe my ship has sailed!) <<less

I was more interested in the setting rather than the romance, the idea of food-therapy was intriguing to me, but I do agree that the ML fell in love with MC at literally the speed of light. Honestly the whole transmigration bit wasn't handled very well, her personality had done a huge 180 but it was brushed away by everyone, even her parents. Her brother is understandable, because he didn't actually grow up with her and was in the army 90% of the time and they mostly didn't interact, but... more>> even her parents?! Going back to the romance part though, it felt like MC just acted coquettish at ML for a bit and he ate some of her cooking and ta-daa he's in love now.

As for the plot, it's a bit your typical "conquer the world with cooking" but I did think it was quite interesting. Also, the previous review struck a nerve which is why I'm here, but the review section is for the novel so rant is under spoilers. It doesn't really go into the novel specifically, so please ignore if you don't want to see. However, if you like the story, you're fine, if you don't like the story, you're also fine. What's not fine is trying to shame people for what they like to read in their leisure, don't take pot shots at readers.

Spoiler

"a person with proper thinking and should only advocate proper novels"? Who are you, the censorship police? Do you think people are so dumb they don't have critical thinking skills and can't judge what they like for themselves? If you legitimately think that someone who likes this story needs to re-evaluate themselves just because you think it's 'improper' I'm afraid you're the one who needs to think about their mindset instead. Yeah, the original might have grown up and thought of ML as her brother, but what does that have to do with, MC, the new owner who literally just met the guy? Biologically, they are not related, emotionally, they are strangers. As for the ML side, I agree he fell for MC way too fast and didn't like the romance either, but the story also literally states that they were incredibly distant and barely knew each other. They have a 12 year age gap, she was a baby when he was in middle school, she was never close to him and he didn't even come home for three years.

If you look at this novel in a rational and logical view. It has so many wrong points. The MC acted to childish that it doesnt makes sense, she wont give proper personal space to her 'brother'

And why the f*ck should a scenario in the early chapters consist of her 'accidentally' touching his JUNIOR, and him being aroused by his sister who only acted disgustingly cute for like a few days. THIS IS SO WRONG IN SO MANY LEVELS. I wouldve understand if she only got recently adopted, but no.... more>> Her body, the original owner grew up alongside the brother/male lead. If I were the me years ago I wouldve like this one, but no, I'm now a person with peoper thinking and should only advocate proper novels.

If you like this novel please better think about your mindset several times. I've got so many creeps and cringe even on chapter 2 <<less

I think, for an interstellar setting, this novel is pretty good. However, it might just be because I'm familiar with the settings so that I can understand the terms such as stanet, mecha, marshall, holographic images, etc.. But if you're new to interstellar stories, then this novel might be too confusing. Their world is quite detailed so I can picture some aspects of their world. But I think it would be better if there are more added details, like the environment of the planets the protagonist go to.

In addition, I'm... more>> confused on how fast the ML fell in love with the fl. I feel like aside from the s*xual attraction, there's no reason for him to fall in love. It's kind of unreasonable how he was unmoved when other hot women threw themselves at him, but he suddenly felt attracted to his younger sister who had a cold relationship with him for years. Why? Just because she was clingy, and touchy feely? But in the perspective of a sibling, their interactions are not too intimate. I'd say holding your brother's arm is quite normal? Or maybe he fell in love with her because of her cooking? Or just because she is beautiful with a young, youthful, and cheerful temperament. Regardless, I hope the author can show us a good reason for his love in the later chapters. Otherwise, if the aforementioned examples are his reason for falling in love. Then that's too damn shallow. No romance in that in my opinion. But aside from these few problems, I enjoy the story so far.

As for the fl...

Spoiler

She is not immediately op, although for some reason her spiritual manifestation is quite different from others, with it alternating between round and sharp, she doesn't immediately become a top-level chef. She has to hone her mental ability before she can incorporate it into the food. Although the process of her training is pretty fast (I've only read until ch17), according to the author, she spent her summer vacation by staying at home and studying. Although not as detailed as other novels, it can show that our MC is indeed hardworking. Also, she has an obsession with growing taller because in their world, women's average hight is 170cm (I'm definitely not jealous). So as a shrimp with 168cm height, she had to undergo her brother's (ml) devil training and eat a fruit that can make her grow tall --- I mean can improve her D-level physique so that she can grow stronger and have a longer lifespan.

[collapse]

So far I don't find her annoying and the food she makes sound so delicious that I'm not willing to drop this novel, unless something happened that annoys me very much I smoke from my nose.

So far it's good, so I'll give this 4 stars for now. Thanks for the translator team btw for translating. English is my second language and I'm not a professional in that matter, but I think that the translations are smooth with few grammatical errors.

As a side note, I hope that people can leave reviews so that they can justify their star ratings. Such as 1 star. This novel is not the best, but it's not so bad that it needs a 1 star (at least from what I have read).

I'll come back to edit my review when I finish reading this.

Edit: So I'm done reading this in mtl. I can say that the plot is well-developed.
Spoiler

The only unanswered question was why the two Ling Yaoyao's souls were exchanged. It's not clear to me or it might just be because of mtl

[collapse]

But aside from that, I'd say the author at least thought about the plot and planned it. I also like that the culture in the interstellar world was introduced. The story is also consistent and lives up to it's title of gourmet from beginning to the end. I also think that the mc's perspective on both her families are realistic.
Spoiler

The Ling family, though they loved and spoiled her, they were not there to guide their adopted daughter most of the time. So even though she loves them as a family, our MC is sensible. I think that's also the reason why she worked hard on her career. To show her own ability and allow others to see her stength. For the Wei biological parents, she treats them respectfully and gets along with her mother like friends. But due to their long absence, they are not too close either. So for our MC, the only one who would unconditionally treat her like a princess would be Ling Xiao. Who also has a 100% spiritual fit with her. And he loves her. In short, they are a match made in heaven. Soulmates. But that doesn't mean that her 2 parents does not love her. In fact, they treat LY very well. It's just that at times, it can be awkward to get along with people who are mostly absent from your life. It's normal.

[collapse]

The direction of the novel at the latter half was also quite unexpected

Spoiler

LMAO when they treated zergs as special ingredients and the foodies were united to kill and eat. The zerg emperor was a cutie too. And the vine pet and the other cat pet

[collapse]

The cp extras at the end are so cute 😳

Spoiler

Qiao concubine and Ye Xi is my fav cp. The school male flower x school female grass hahahahha

All in all, if you want a pretty light read for an interstellar novel, I'd recommend this. <<less

MTLed, I've got sorta mixed feelings about this one.

It's essentially 1/3 cooking academy anime with the OP protagonist who's such a cooking genius that everyone loves her and she changes the world of futuristic cuisine, 1/3 space war, and 1/3 "adopted daughter finds out about her past" drama complete with "thought the parents were dead but they're actually still alive" plotline.

The pros are

  • All 3 parts are actually pretty well written, even the space military and zerg culture have basic worldbuilding, more so than I'd expect from a transmigration romance.
  • The characters are pretty good. The antagonistic girls are pretty basic, but they all essentially exist as independent characters with their own goals and lives.
  • The main characters are pretty OP, but less in the outright Mary Sue way and more in the anime protagonist way.
But the cons are

  • If you're not into all 3 plotlines, it can get a little overwhelming or tiring. I don't really care about space wars, so by the end when the zerg plot took over I got bored and started skipping.
  • Because we spend the entire time with the FL, we don't see how other people view her, so it feels a little ridiculous when other people keep describing her as "cold and unapproachable".
  • The lack of drama is good at first, but after a while it gets a little boring.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but I feel a little like I got something different from what I was expecting to read.

The translations are on Wattpad, which is a tragic place for me cause I always lose my password XD

But the MTL isn't too bad.

The novel is cute, the cuisine got boring though, very same-y. Even in China the cuisine differs by region, and there is a lot of diversity. The characters are mostly love, I actually liked that the ML moved fast (which was explained by their 99.9% spiritual match rate). I also liked that most of the side characters were taken care of. I liked that the MC was... more>> filial. <<less

The romance part is gag reflex inducing. I liked the cooking aspect but no 13 year old acts like this 18 year old acts. And when her love interest (the body and mentality of a war hardened manly man) is first physically attracted to her, she has the body and mentality of a 12 year old. Yuck. The romance plot line did not improve from there. I feel like I've become trapped in the sunk cost fallacy. I spent so much effort getting this far that I have to keep... more>> going but the romance aspect is just a no from me. <<less

The MC is too childish for my taste. This is suitable for teenagers. As the other reviews said the MC act like 13 years old kid, which is not aligned with the MC background written by the author considering she is a transmigrated person. I hate the interaction of the MC and ML especially their relationship. Everything seems forced, especially out of nowhere the MC accidentally saw her brother ML shloong.

Generic and extremely immature. The only tolerable moments are the foodie ones.
The author jumped the gun with the romance and both are weirdly colliding into each other consciously or unconsciously for ALL the wrong reasons (MC wants to take advantage to hug ML's thigh, ML discovering his s*xual attraction to his younger step-sibling) in mere 10 chapters.

It's not even the taboo that's turning me off here, it's how undisguisedly the author would want both to jump on each other without developing the slightest inkling of an emotional bond first.
Why the heck you be building all this s*xual tension for at the start of the story? This ain't no smut novel... right??
Spoiler

A quote from chapter 9: [Ling Yaoyao thought, 'Yes, her elder brother who masculine and handsome. She wants a tough, iron-blooded guy with a stature. So handsome that she can't close her legs!']
Wow; I've not seen the last sentence outside of a smut novel before...

[collapse]

They have a 12-year-long age gap between them, even with a long life expectancy of 500~yrs average, the way everybody behaves is very much to the common modern age standards. So yes, it does make ML sound like a predator.

MC is also going vastly off of her own descriptions, with no insecurities to be seen, no signs of greed for the affection of familial love, no shyness and inexperience in dealing with the opposite s*x, etc.
I can't even turn off my brain on this one because of how uncomfortable the scenarios involving the two are.
From suddenly 'accidentally' groping the ML's g**italia and right on the next day 'accidentally' flashing your assets to him, not to mention the ML; I'm feeling hella awkward here.
Any moment now, any MC will cry out to her step bro for help cause she got stuck somewhere. No srsly, are they trying to write a cheap and fast smut novel w/o smut here or what.
I am not going to sweat the details because I can completely pick it apart.
This is your typical turn-off-brain-while-reading novel.

I totally agree with remyrem's review. This story is not bad for an interstellar novel but there are a few plotlines that intersect one another making it quite a convoluted story. If you enjoy reading about an OP Marysue-ish FL who gets through all obstacles super easy, love to read about Chinese cuisine and how to cook them, love to read about Zergs and about mechas... Then this story is for you.

Theres a lot going on. Basically, initially you'd think its about the FL conquering the interstellar region with food,... more>> but suddenly its about her food making a difference in the war.

Spoiler

She starts cutting up Zergs to cook and its so delicious that everyone isn't afraid of the Zergs anymore and welcome their attacks so that they can cook them.

[collapse]

Her involvement in the interstellar region changes a lot of things as well, finding missing people, reuniting families...

It's just a really long story to me because I got tired of all the different plotlines later in the story. I just wanted it to be over by then haha.

As for the romance part:

Spoiler

I did not like the storyline between FL and ML. I generally can tolerate pseudo-in*est stories but this one just felt off to me. Anyway probably it's just me. I just didn't think FL's personality matched well with the ML.

The novel is not bad. Sadly, it's not my cup of tea. It got repetitive and annoying pretty fast.

As others have said, it is childish. FL is okay but she's... inmature and kind of a love brain character. She has smart moments and seems decisive enough but then the ML gets involved and... Ah, how disappointing.

I don't like the ML at all. Too forceful and domineering for my taste, especially taking into account the pseudo sibling relationship and age difference. ... more>>
Spoiler

He just goes from "oh, how shameful to have that kind of reaction towards my innocent little sister" to "she must be mine. I want to eat her and kiss her and I don't care about anyone's opinion, even hers" within a couple chapters. He only stopped being a j*rk because his parents beat him up and he realized she had the option to escape him so he'd better play nice to win her over. You know that moment when you realize that if a certain character's feelings weren't reciprocated they'd become the scariest villain ever? That's the ML for me. I expected an honorable, principled god of war, and got an entitled, "I get everything I want" commander

The novel itself is not bad, although it has a slight in*est vibe, as the two main caracters are foster siblings, with the MC being adopted, it is not bad, because she just transmograted, and the original host didn't haver a great relationship with her brother, and they didn't see each other for years.

For me the most frustrating part about this novel is what I usually don't like in asian food stories, which is that only asian food (specifically the natolional food of the novel, like here chinese) is good.... more>> I really want to se a story like this with a side character who has maybe italian ancestry and cooks a killer pasta. <<less

It was amusing at first, but the story got quickly repetitive.

The FL soul swaps with a cannon fodder character in a Sci Fi setting novel. In her former life, her dying parents left her their family restaurant. So the FL is very knowledgeable about Chinese cooking. She changes her major from the original host's pharmacy major to a Food major instead. Then proceeds to wow, amaze, and slap everyone's faces on how amazing traditional Chinese cuisine is because people in this era seem to not know gourmet and or any... more>> type of cooking?

The story line is similar to those Alpha/Omega series where a strong character needs a partner with high mental capability to cure them of manic stress when they use their powers or they go a bit psychotic. If they don't have a partner, they have to use pharmaceutical therapy, music therapy, and food therapy to sooth their manic stress. Of course, pharmaceutical therapy has side affects, and music therapy is barely useable. While food therapy before the soul migration of the the FL, was the weakest of the therapies.

About 90% of the story focuses on the FL cooking and having various audiences get hooked on her super tasty food. After a while, this gets very repetitive and the story line begins to sound like it's just placed in a regular modern world. Because the FL insists on doing everything herself because robots or other peoples can't cook as well as her hand made meals.

Many parts are a bit vague in the details. For instance, Pharmacy Therapists use their powers to make drugs with side effects, but Food Therapists just use their powers to filter out foods to extract whatever energy mojo and put that in their cooking for therapy. In the end, anyone with enough skills can extract this energy so it's not necessarily only Food Therapists that can do this. I did question why Pharmacy Therapists couldn't just extract the same energy and used it in their drugs?

In addition, the novel describes Weibo plenty of times with the various water armies and etc. If you can expect Weibo (similar to FaceBook) can still exist in year 5000+ on Earth in it's regular forum/twitter format, is a bit unbelievable and farfetched.

If you like food, ignore all the various details, and can suspend disbelief, you might like the series. It basically made humans go back to to being hunters for the sake of food as opposed to being afraid of aliens like the Zergs who normally go about eating humans. <<less

Oooh the author is one hella kinky sh*t 😏 I won't judge whether readers like it or not, morally grey or not, or if the gap between their age, strength or maturity is okay or not as long as the couple treated each other right.

From what I see in the beginning, it seems like they're already attracted to each other. The pseudo-in*est thing is quite icky for those who mind it, but do remember that they're not biological and they're barely a family before the MC transmigrated, with the parents... more>> being busybodies, the ML often staying far away and the ori!MC being a domineering spoiled girl. In a sense, their familial feeling was very distant before.

I think I can say that who the ML loves is the transmigrated MC, since if it's the matter of their compatibility, the ori!MC should also have a high compability with ML, but instead she feared this brother of hers and has never had any thoughts about man-woman relationship with him and vice versa.

Spoiler

The MC is kinda mary sue-ish this far, though... Rare boodline, beautiful face, rare skills, rare pet, secret identity, easily gaining goodwill from NPCs, quickly mastering an ability that took people years to learn, defeating one of the top ten mecha combatant on her first try, direct disciple to a world-famous grandmaster, plot-related characters falling for her left and right. The only thing she hasn't checkmark yet is saving the world 😂 maybe she'd do it dozens of chapters later.

Ehh, just an okay novel in my opinion. I thought the ending was kinda dragged out and boring, but honestly the first part was pretty fun and enjoyable. It was interesting seeing her interactions with her friends and family, and I wasn't too phased by the relationship pacing between the ML and FL. ML is your standard cold faced dude, but does get much more flirty later on when they 'confirm' their feelings for each other. He wasn't terrible in terms of MLs in my opinion but he isn't exactly... more>> overflowing with character development either LOL.

As for the story, it has a relatively interesting setting, and it was also relatively??? interesting??? as more about the background of the novel was revealed. I also liked the brief interlude between the FL and the OGFL

Spoiler

because they traded souls, and the OGFL fell in love with someone on FL's side of the world which made me happy. I think this was a nice conclusion as well, since OGFL never felt like she fit in within society and stuff and was putting on a front for the most of it. I like that she found happiness in the end and didn't just disappear into the ether or anything like that lmao.

[collapse]

Another fun part of the story too is obviously the OGHeroine and the FL becoming friends in the end and supporting each other. The character interactions are also fun, and I would say like a good chunk of the novel is just sort of... cooking and slice of life interactions. Which was nice.

When it got to the ending with the war though I felt like it dragged on and became less... interesting to me. But I still finished it.

Overall, just an okay book. Nothing too exciting to talk about, nothing terrible really either imo. A good book if you want to just pass the time; it's rather short which is pretty nice, so the conflict doesn't really stretch out THAT much. Overall, 3/5 is definitely pretty suitable for this story I feel like. <<less
