1/5 - F Tier - Read it if you have nothing else

My initial thought pertaining towards the novel was ‘Alright, here we go again.’ The cover was interesting at first glance but the title and description both seemed to be fighting against each other in deciding just which of the two could be the blandest.

The prologue was entirely predictable and, in my opinion, went on for far longer than necessary. I wouldn’t have a problem with it if it wasn’t trying to pull the rug from under our noses as... more>> if we were ret*rded. Really, did the author believe that readers would think he (the Mc) actually became a lower, weaker, class—reverting to base level, mind you—without keeping some sort of strength or having some sort of leverage? Still, the prologue did serve its purpose well enough.

The MC can best be described as ‘laidback’, which is to be expected with a story like this. However, that description is also as far as his personality goes.

The writing isn’t anything extraordinary nor is it a tr*sh bag of literature, it reaches the point of barely passable and sits comfortably in that position throughout. The descriptions are short and brief, it does not elaborate unless in times when readers are supposed to feel a sense of wonder; though even those ‘elaborations’ are brief. There are some minor qualms with the translation itself, but not something substantial enough to kill you. Like “I decided to proceed with conversation in order to ask what I had to ask.” These types of sentences exist from time to time and may not be for the weak-willed.

The dialogues in the novel are... bad. Terrible enough to make you feel the need to skim through them—many of the ‘conversations’ go on for more than needed and many are used for exposition alone. So far, none of the characters sound like real people.

The plot seems tedious. The pacing itself is slow, and not in a good way, the type that moves at a snail's pace just to write more chapters (probably why the dialogues are obnoxiously long just to get a point across) with little occurring. It doesn’t take till chapter 6 for anything truly ‘worthy’ to happen and even that itself was brief. But I suppose this is supposed to be a mellow novel in the first place.

There are some sparse artworks, drawings that are honestly too good for this story.

There is little going for this book. It’s a straight ‘Meh’. A story to be read once you’ve chugged through the other worthy reads in your library and have few left. <<less

Right well there's a saying that an author can't write a character smarter than themselves. Probably true in this case. The plot and character interactions show no deep thought. The entire world and every character up to the point I've read is reactionary, no one has shown any initiative to do anything beyond live as they are.

Other people are saying to give it a read if you're out of other books, but no. Just don't. It's just another story of the author making an OP character and everyone and their... more>> mother being wowed for little to no reason. I stopped because that is all the book is.
Good art though.

Edit: Would like to note that this type of plot would work if it had some other redeeming feature. I prefer comedy. The harem the author seems to be building would probably also make smut easy. I'm upset so I'm claiming the author to be an unfunny virg*n. Take that person who will never read this. <<less

If you found the synopsis interesting and have a pretty good feel for JP web novels/light novels of this genre I don't think you'll be too disappointed. However, if you believe that in depth world building, realistic character growth, and meaningful interpersonal dialog/relations are the rules instead of the exceptions then you'll most likely be disappointed and find this series lacking.

This isn't anything exceptional, but I found it to be a fun and enjoyable read. The story so far has been pretty light, which isn't everyone's cup of tea, but when you want something with a light and happy vibe it's great. Don't get me wrong, it's far from perfect, but that doesn't mean it's not entertaining. Popcorn is fun to eat even if it isn't very filling, and that's how I'd rate this story: literary popcorn. It isn't powerful, or moving, but it's a little something to brighten your... more>> day. <<less
