As a rising Formula One race car driver, Ye Ci had always been criticized.

“Aloof and indifferent, unable to be reasoned with.”

“Suspected to have a mental illness, is this person really suitable for the track?”

“He doesn’t really love the sport, racing is just his way of venting his violent emotions.”

Huo Tinglan’s demeanor was always elegant and protective in front of the media, and he said that his husband was just quiet and introverted. After five years of marriage, they respected each other and were quite harmonious.

It was not until Ye Ci died unexpectedly during a race that Huo Tinglan gradually realized . . . . . .

He wasn’t quiet and introverted, but instead lifeless. Before finding his refuge, Ye Ci had gone through too many dark and painful moments.

After enduring years of suffering and longing, Huo Tinglan was unexpectedly reborn. Ye Ci was only eighteen years old this year, and everything was within reach.

Huo Tinglan was cheeky and went directly to his door to ask for a kiss.

In my defense, I was conned by the synopsis.

I expected Ye Ci to be assertive, cold, and mature, especially considering how he was portrayed as a fierce racer and a strong, ruthless fighter in the starting chapters. Instead we get a weak, quivering kitten who seems like he'd melt into a puddle of embarrassed/nervous tears or faint each time Huo Tinglan opens his mouth.

Ye Ci's age being 18 only seems to be so the 30 years old Huo Tinglan wouldn't be committing a crime when he lusts after him. In... more>> reality, Ye Ci comes off as a child entering puberty who's confused and uncomfortable with the changes occurring to his body as he is in the process of going through his second differentiation into an omega from an alpha. He's nowhere near being a mature adult ready to contemplate a lifelong relationship. So him panicking when he was suddenly married off to a much older stranger as 'medicine' for that alpha's susceptible period is understandable.

Huo Tinglan, as we're repeatedly shown, is really excited to take advantage of his new husband's vulnerable condition while pretending to be a decent gentleman uninterested in him so that Ye Ci will let down his guard. Reading how Huo Tinglan hides his lust and tailors his behavior to best manipulate the unknowing Ye Ci into trusting him is kind of disturbing. It's repeatedly emphasized how Huo Tinglan is attracted to Ye Ci's innocence, purity, immaturity, and inexperience, basically all his childlike qualities, making him seem like a downright p*do sometimes. The gap in their maturity is also repeatedly emphasized.

To his credit, Huo Tinglan does always stop himself with great effort before pushing Ye Ci too far, at least to the point I've read. But the fact that his desires are so fierce towards the young Ye Ci in his current vulnerable state, to the point that Huo Tinglan has to exert such a remarkable amount of willpower to stop, is kind of concerning. His care and protectiveness towards Ye Ci and his future is still undeniable though.

I can see why aspects of this type of romance can be enjoyable to a lot of readers. I also enjoy an occasional age-gap BL. But unfortunately this just made me uncomfortable and is clearly not for me. <<less

imagine this, you and your partner are in love and he dies, you're devastated. Then you're given another chance at love what will you do? How will you feel?

i read some comments about the ML being manipulative and being a gross pe*o. These comments are a bit nonsensical, considering the story, and would put off people from reading and otherwise good story. Tbh, I would have done worse. I would straight out took him back with me and never let him out of my sight.

the plot wasn't complicated and although... more>> the characters are not really relatable they are atleast easy to digest and read. All in all, you have to read it in a certain perspective, otherwise you'll just misconstrue the story.",) <<less

Sooo MC and ML are a married couple. They're in love with each other so when the MC died, ML was devastated.

Then, ML suddenly wakes up to 5 years or so earlier (when he and MC haven't met and MC was at the lowest point of his life)

MC is 18 now and ML is 30 so I can't help but think that what ML's doing is kinda like 'g*ooming'

I get that MC is experiencing a lot of bad things at 18 and ML wants to help him. I also... more>> get that ML doesn't want MC to think that he's just a 'family member' so he kinda makes little moves that makes the MC like him but yeah I do feel like that's g*ooming someone

Anyhooo, the story's pretty laid back with a porcupine MC in the beginning but when he fell in love with ML, his spikes become soft and gentle.

A lot might say that MC's personality changed but I think it's only when he is with ML (which we only get to see since the novel doesn't really show much of his interaction with other people aside from ML or people closely related to ML). After all, he's fallen in love and people in love would tend to be soft and not put on a brave front anymore in front of the person who loves them.

Soooo the story becomes quite cliche after some chaps... a porcupine MC and a gentleman ML (with a bit of bad side)... turns into a gentle MC and a pampering ML

So yeah, I'm stopping at chap 40 cause there's no excitement for me anymore

But you can go and give this a read, compared to other novels, I do recommend this for light reading <<less

I really like this series... Huo Tinglan is quite the pe*vert (both in the honey and paranoid senses) but he takes so much care to protect and respect his baby that even when he’s being a downright horndog it still drips honey everywhere lol.

The families are also particularly good (of course, because Ye Ci’s only family is his mom, otherwise it would be a different story), and I really like how it was constructed.

HTL’s insistence on YC’s education is also quite funny and sweet lol.

Good, quick read, very funny and... more>> sweet. <<less

It's almost like reading Beloved Marriage in the High Society. A mentally closed off young shou with a much older gong. Only, the gong here is a reborn person pining for his jagged, experienced, closed off lover in the previous birth. There was a line where Ye Ci, the baby shou thought that Huo wasn't looking at him when he was looking at him, as if he was looking at someone else. This line only came up once, which made the story a bit incomplete even with all the extras,... more>> because the person whom Huo actually wanted to pamper was the Ye Ci who was his spouse for 5 years, pampering young Ye Ci was more like the "what if" situation. It means, the whole time Huo was substituting adult Ye Ci with young Ye Ci.

Moving on from that, the story was adorable with Ye Ci being sweet and pure, and creepy for Huo being downright pe*verted. Ye Ci was clearly manipulated by Huo into bed, no one can deny it, no matter how much this reason is white washed by Ye Ci's love and dependency. But I forgive Huo because he genuinely cares about Ye Ci.

I like how there wasnt any excessive face slapping for the step mother, considering how the step mother herself was a victim in this story. The original s*umbag was the father, a hedonistic guy full of greed. Punishing him is more than enough.

I would've loved some buns in this story because it's omegaverse, but that dream didn't fulfill.

All in all, it's a good read. <<less

Alright I'm done reading! Don't want to continue. Sooo plain, sooo boring. Gosh.. the summary made me pick up this story, well... strong omega character is always my cuppa coffee. I'm also fine with weak one but ayyaaaa... this one is totally out of the list; fierce and crazy and as strong as bull on track but a salted fish, weak as newborn kitten when he's with HTL. Seems like the author wants to tell me 'pity Ye Chi, he's been through a lot of childhood trauma, he deserve to... more>> be loved.. so never mind his switched personality' and it annoys me. Lke c'mon.. this not the first story of male alpha turn omega or poor and parentless omega i've had read but non as dissapointing as this character, a weak cry baby🙄. I thought I would be reading a story about an amazing and fierce omega racer but naaaaah. Not my taste, but for those who loves slice of life and light story this is for you. <<less

The translator did an excellent t job, it’s not their fault the story fell short

The synopsis has nothing to do with the story, except to lure those of us who like strong Omegas in. If you like blushing, stammering, innocent Omegas who are in a relationship with an Alpha almost twice their age, well this is the story for you

It’s not for me 2 stars plus 1 for translator

I liked this story and think that it is different from other ABO novels. First of all, I liked how society was built. There were laws, and everyone was equal. Yes, omegas are physically weaker, but they aren't treated differently, and they are respected in society. Apart from that, the author tried to explain alpha and omega behaviour scientifically; all their instincts and physical needs sounded logical. Because of medical terminology, omega phisique and traits didn't seem as ridiculous as in other novels.

The story itself might be a bit ordinary;... more>> there are other novels with similar plots, but it was still enjoyable reading. All because the author writes well and describes characters emotions well, you feel distressed for them. Both MC and ML Characters are interesting. MC is just a child who was forced to grow up too fast; he acts like an adult, but he has little social experience and hasn't had enough time to mature. He still has childish traits. Because his past was a bit tragic and he had a lot of hardships, he is sensitive, vulnerable, and has low self-esteem. ML is pitiful too; he is reborn and has past life's memories; he loved his husband in previous life too dearly and still loves him; logically, he understands that ML is still a child and tries to control himself, but because of his feelings, sometimes he fails. He misses his lover so much; he loves him unconditionally, and he is right in front of him, but yet he isn't. He can't show his true feelings because his lover at this time is still too immature and far from the person he knew. It is a blessing and unfortunate at the same time. He can protect him from many bad things; it is a time when he hasn't reached his limit, closed his heart, and became cold and closed. He can give him a bright future, but he also needs to shelter him from his own feelings. All those struggles and feelings were described very well.

The pe*verted protagonist tag is there because of ML, and I want to defend him. He loves to tease MC and act shamelessly, but he isn't too execive. He is a tiny bit pe*verted, but compared to other characters in similar stories, I think he is still okay.

At first, because of the title and synopsis, I thought that there would be many scenes involving cars and car races, but the main focus of the story was on MC's and ML's relationship and their feelings; there was hardly any scene involving racing. It is sweet and light reading with healthy relationships and without ab*se or drama, which is rare for ABO novels. If you like emotional, sweet ABO stories, I would recommend this novel. <<less

Didn't read the extras, lost interest by the end of main story. 4 stars is probably a bit too kind, but felt 3 stars was too low, it was still a fairly decently written story.

Generally I'm not a fan of very innocent, feminine-coded omegas who are constantly blushing and naïve, and I also dislike the trope where the shou can't initially accept the bottom position just because of his ideas about what makes a 'man', but I didn't want to give a lower rating just because of my own personal... more>> preference. But word of warning, the shou is not the strong type, he completely relies on the alpha gong, so it's a very stereotypical dynamic.

This novel lacks the humor that I find is the author's strength, and the CP were kind of boring. It's mostly because the shou is kind of generic ABO shou, late bloomer omega who initially was an alpha (seems weird that he changes secondary s*x just like that, I think this should have been explained, never came across it in other ABO novels) and then transformed into an omega and struggle initially to adjust to being of the 'feminine' s*x. I felt it was a bit abrupt when the CP finally did the deed, but then the actually s*x scene was completely censored and you only knew it was happening because it had been mentioned previously that

Spoiler

interc**rse and knotting is a part of permanent marking.

[collapse]

Regarding marking, I felt the novel should have taken it a bit more serious. In most ABO settings, marking is very serious, and a permanent mark is a lifetime decision, way more serious than marriage. So

Spoiler

I can't believe the shou didn't think a little deeper about whether he wanted the permanent mark or not, and the gong didn't explain to him what getting a permanent mark meant.

[collapse]

To me, this was irresponsible of them both, especially the gong as the older partner.

Overall there's not much to the story except handing out sweets and dogfood to the reader, doting and protective alpha gong x down-on-his-luck, poor and vulnerable omega shou. Shou undergoes a 'second puberty' during the story, which to me made the gong's attempts at getting involved with the shou a bit morally dubious. Not g*ooming exactly, but it did make me think that the shou was not in a position to get married considering he wasn't sexually mature at this point. Like marrying a 13-year old in real life. <<less

I went into this novel well aware that the age gap would be a bit problematic, so it didn't bother me as much as it would if I had gone in unknowing. That is to say, it really is a very large and repeatedly emphasized age difference, with the shou Ye Ci being 18 and the gong Huo Tinglan being physically 30 but mentally 40.

While Ye Ci has a traumatic past that did psychologically age him a bit, he is still presented as a very innocent and naive character, with... more>> a lot of adjectives describing just how young and pure he is. I only found it mildly uncomfortable to read, but I'd say my tolerance is pretty high for such things.

Otherwise, this is a mostly sweet and healing slice of life type ABO novel, with Huo Tinglan acting as a perfect gentleman at the start, and a bit more of a hooligan by the end. Both of their past traumas are touched upon a bit, but it's mostly glossed over in favor of showing how sweet they are together in the present. There also aren't any detailed explicit scenes but it's all very heavily implied.

I do wish there was an extra where Ye Ci lived on and was able to heal in the previous timeline as well though, that first chapter dynamic between the two had my brain in a slight chokehold I can't lie. Maybe because the age gap was less wild and the dynamic was more equal lol... <<less

Plot wasn't complicated, but the characters are pitiful and their relationship is very tender. Honestly I love angst and this was not really that sad as I would've liked, but this novel was more about mutual healing. I wish we could've seen more scenes from their previous life since we really never knew how the previous ML felt. In a way, he haunts the narrative despite the novel revolving around his current timeline self + a lot of the novel is in his pov. I thought I would get more... more>> formula one in this novel but it was only used as the background of the first life and was rarely mentioned after the first few chapters. I missed the slice of life tag when I first checked it out, but that was my bad! I don't think I would reread, but I did really enjoy this novel in the first go :) <<less

If the ML were anyone else than who he is, or any less genuine, this would be a very alarming romance.

MC is technically an adult, but nowhere near grown up mentally, and ML is a lot older than him, and possesses a lot more life experience. Fortunately, he genuinely has MC's best interests at heart in all things and loves him deeply, otherwise the power imbalance would be even more off-putting for me.

If you can ignore what seems to be a big gap in maturity between the two leads, this... more>> is a very sweet, simple story. <<less

If you’re looking for a short and sweet story with not much drama and angst (except for the past), but not much plot either, this one’s for you. Just turn off that brain of yours and read it. I’m giving it a 4 stars because I really need it these past couple of days. If it was any other time when I’m a bit more critical to what I read, then it’s gonna be rated lower.

Pure fluff with very little conflict or drama. And many river crabs.

I admit, I was bored. I wish the shou had kept a bit more of his alpha fierceness that he displayed in the early chapters. I know most of that was played off as trauma response, but it was the only interesting bit of his personality. Without giving too many spoilers, I felt that could have been handled differently.

Anyways, if you're in the mood for pure decently written fluff, enjoy.

I didn't know before I read this that this is an omega verse story so I kind of imagine this story also if it is not omega verse or if MC remained an alpha. I also expected MC to have racing as his career, though it's okay for me too that his career path is different in the second life (well that's given) I just can't not think the WHAT IF's

BUT Overall I enjoyed and had a great time reading. ≪3

A Truly Complete Perfected Second Chance.

It's like usual Second Chance and not at the same time.

It's not a Slow Romance, but it wasn't rushed either.

... more>> And not like the summary, Huo Tinglan, our Alpha, is not as straight forward as the summary tried to implied.

He know how fragile Ye Ci is, even though not as fragile as the 'future past' self who had gone through more traumatic life than this Younger Ye Ci. So his step by step Courting was not rushed, but not slow either.

Ye Ci was slightly Naive, but not too THAT Naive. Huo Tinglan really know how to show himself as Gentleman. Sure it's not a Fake actions nor a Fake kindness. And Huo Tinglan, was truly tried his best to Hold back and be Patient. But because all this Gentleman actions, Ye Ci really thought his Alpha has barely have bottom line (?), so he dare himself to help his Alpha who was Enduring his big problem.

Honestly that scene was Interesting. Nothing was crossed (no s*x whatsoever) but their 'development' was faster than Huo Tinglan even expected.

Anyway, Ye Ci doesn't stay ignorance. He can see how Black Belly his husband can be. But he Love him just the same.

Beside that, this novel really gave us Great Satisfactory!

Ye Ci get the Life and Happiness he deserve! Ye Ci's Happiness is Huo Tinglan's Happiness!

Absolutely SWEET PERFECTION!!! AND I'M TRULY LOVING IT!!! <<less

Mindless, fun, steamy story, and as long as you don't expect more than that you'll have a good time. Reviewer who said this was basically mostly foreplay was spot on. Also, basically nothing to do with formula one. Sort of a PWP with barely any p*rn.

Fair warning — Age gap is distinct and pronounced - 12 years, and the ML has an innocent, "pure" vibe, while the MC is very clear about the seduction he's carrying out, and initially presents himself as a gentleman but eventually reveals his shameless, roguish... more>> self. He also insists on being called shushu, which is something you'd call someone who's around your dad's age or slightly younger. So, the daddy kink energy is real in this one. If that's not your thing, definitely skip.

While ML is mostly flustered and shy, and MC is very good at pushing for physical affection and lowering the ML's bottom line, there's ultimately no non-con and the MC never does anything violent or harsh to the ML, he's just a h**ny little freak about it. ML does catch on eventually, but if you don't like the sly gong/slightly bullied shou dynamic this isn't for you.

Also, the main characters have some dimension to their personality, and there are brief moments where they aren't just making love eyes at each other that have real depth.
Spoiler

There really isn't a whole lot of it, but that scene where MC wakes up from his nightmare and the ML makes his declaration about them being fated honestly really touched me. Also in that temple flashback where MC's mom is praying they can be together in the next life and MC goes "I want this one" is really so AAHHHHH

[collapse]

I honestly would've preferred to read the love story between racer ML and 40 yo MC, since I think it would've been more compelling, but I think author knew what kinks and romance they wanted to write and committed to it. <<less

Honestly I liked this one. But this rly isn't gonna be everyone's cup of tea.

There are loads of people who think HTL is almost g*ooming Ye Ci, but they're both adults and while Ye Ci is pretty innocent, he's not naïve or s*upid, that's for sure. I would say this is not g*ooming, maybe a little, but it's more of a power imbalance (which obviously exists, but HTL never ab*ses it and only uses it to protect/spoil Ye Ci and make him both understand HTL and his intentions) and the... more>> difference in maturity between the two. For people who don't enjoy that dynamic, probably don't read this.

HTL is, understandably, deeply and obsessively in love with Ye Ci, considering him more important than himself and anything else. He literally has lived through a nightmare where his beloved has died. So, yes Ye Ci is 18, but all of HTL's overwhelming emotions are 100% valid and he has at least five times the self control that I do to already manage to be so restrained. He's got the facade of a gentleman but inside, he's really a h**ny rouge. But he does respect boundaries and always waits for Ye Ci to be ready. He really loves him more than life.

For all those people who keep saying that Ye Ci has a different personality when with HTL, I think ya'll just don't understand how immature people who've been forced through awful situations work. Ye Ci obviously is hostile and unfazed towards threats to himself, bc he knows how those work and how he should react, bc he's been in danger before. He's obviously cold to others bc he's used to protecting himself, and he was cold to HTL at first too. But he does not know how to deal with and has far less defences against people who are kind and loving and devoted to him, bc who apart from his mom has ever been that? It's no wonder he treats HTL differently. And it's also mentioned later that he's soft and genuine under his coldness to the new omega friends he makes at school after getting to know them too, and it's the same concept. I think some ppl just want badass omegas and dislike it when they don't find them. <<less

Like others have said, the only reason it wasn't creepier was because the MC did clearly love the ML very much and did have his best interests mostly at heart, and they had been genuinely married at a point where there relationship would not have been nearly that exploitive (hopefully) so I kept comforting myself that it's fine, it's fine, he's not just a pedo, put up with, it's fine...
