So, this novel is quite exciting with the wars and battles actually but that's not until the 60-100 or so chapters.
Spoiler

The basis of this story is the MC living through the various eras of China. (Because she's immortal) Although it's technically an "alternative history novel" on qidian, the MC doesn't really change the course of history much.

[collapse]

Also, this series is technically a gender bender, but it's not really a major plot point in the story. There's also no romance which was one of my fears with a male to female gender benders. The interactions between the characters are nice and there is some good character development in the MC.
Spoiler

She turns from being happy and carefree to cold and indifferent. She's called the Mourning General for a reason.

[collapse]

The biggest issue with this series is the rushed ending. Most of the story beyond Arc Two is kinda brushed past. But I more or less understand the rushed ending because the author was a college freshman and didn't have time to write.

I cried reading this. I don't believe I've ever cried reading a novel before. If I have, there's review somewhere saying it.

This novel, at a glance, is a story about the war records of a disciple carrying out her master's wish of a peaceful world. During the first arc, she is the Mourning General who mourns for her master, those she's killed, and the world. During the second arc, she's a scholar-cum-advisor and also a master of a disciple. These are basically the main storyline, it has the action, the strategy, and the history.

What made me cry is how much she's suffered being immortal. She keeps meeting and knowing more and more people but they keep dying. She is a very lonely existence. She can't change history as she's a regular person in her previous life. Even if she had the knowledge, the "will of fate" is denying her actions. When she realizes this, she gives up. All these interactions and characters are well made that it's terrible they keep dying, be it war or old age.

Started reading this shortly after it was first picked up roughly three years ago. Then Delta seemingly dropped it sadly. It quickly became one of if not my favourite web novel. It’s a story that so far, seems to be happy to take things at it’s own pace. Although it follows a “warrior” in tumultuous times, it doesn’t feel the need to overindulge in fighting like many stories do. Every piece of combat has repercussions and feels earned, at least up till chap.62. Mind you there’s on been one haha.... more>> Seems like a genuinely good slow burn, and just wanted to thank AureeTranslation for picking up where Delta left off nearly two years ago. <<less

Delta is a real wishy washy translator. Delta always drops novels, all novels Delta translated were dropped. Just based off the translator I'd say don't bother.

Check this translation quality. First chapter excerpt.

Skin as smooth as water, a face formed like jade, the height of a meter seven, anyone with eyes would praise this person's looks.

She's acknowledges that she's a man, but still uses she/her pronouns. She wants a wife, and isn't interested in men, but she thinks it's inappropriate to wife up in a woman's body. Ik China is just being Chinese, but I can't help but like this. Non of that yuri stuff that always leaves a bad taste in my mouth after reading. The smut part is usually fine, but not the lovey stuff. It's always underdeveloped. I'm aromantic, so take what u will from that, but still, 🤮

I like how when... more>> I read this, the men feel like men and the women feel like genuine women. The main character feels like a man.

One thing I don't like tho is that the female struggle in a man's world isn't shown very well. The men are always skeptical at first about her ability, but one show of strength and she's one of the men. It's like, "As long as u prove yourself, you'll be accepted. Duh?" And that's just not how it is. It's fine to be inaccurate, but you can tell this is how men generally view women's problems. They just don't understand. This didn't bother me, but it kinda opened my eyes a bit. "So this is how they understand it" kinda thing

However, I can see how it could be necessary if the author wants to focus on other things and move the plot along. Being a woman is just a prop to show how cool she is, and to make the story more interesting. Speaking of, the plot is amazing. I like it. It's pretty consistent and makes sense. Character development is also consistent, but it's very straightforward and lacks variety. There are good and bad people on both teams, though, because that's how it works. <<less

I won't call this story tragic.

The moment we know that MC is immortal, it is only expected that she will remain when everyone else she knows of pass away. Therefore, what matters is what she does with her immortality. I think this book is excellent at just that. It has no romance, very few gender bender content, and is mostly about the MC's effort at fulfilling a wish for a prosperous world.

She grows from an innocent teenage girl, to a battle ridden general, to an advisor and eventually to a teacher that educate all public during her epic journey. She desperately fights the fate already written and waiting for her, just so she can fulfill the promise she made hundreds years of ago. It is epic that it will certainly draw out your emotion.

New translator has picked it up. Hope you can enjoy it. <<less

I read this a while ago. If you are banking on this being a gender bender, you are mistaken. The whole story is pretty much military expeditions and events happen with the MC's participation. This is more like a journey being told, and gender doesn't play a big part in the plot. There is also no romance if that what you are looking for, still an interesting premise though.
