The time he spent with the two of them mended his emotional wounds, and he eventually fell seriously in love with the two. However, in the climax of the game’s story, one of them was fated to die. Thus, to challenge such a fate, he devoted his all to mastering the game and eventually became the best in the world.

Already mastering the game and becoming the bEsT in the world yet he was still confused about why he got barked at and had to kneel in front of the prince? This is like reincarnating into Minecraft and not understanding why the villagers hide in their houses at night. Just a few chapters in and I'm already questioning the author's intelligence, not to mention how the protagonist immediately becomes close to one of the main heroines by hugging her. Overall, it feels like a self-insert story

Knowing the lore of the game and being good at it are two separate things, so it is understandable if the main character makes mistakes regarding how to interact with minor characters.

That being said, author is indeed an idiot. There seems to be an internal consistency issue, where the main character accomplished winning a forced loss battle in the game where he beat 100 enemies with the most basic equipment. Later on he is unable to beat even the 30 vanguards of the 100, barely taking out half of them... more>> before losing.

Next, somehow the empire that beat him after losing 15 mechs to a single guy then allowed for a new mech to be transported right next to the defeated but completely unharmed enemy ace, and then somehow sat around watching as he got out of his old mech and into this new mech and started it up. This is like Skyrim meme level of enemies standing around watching you eat 50 wheels of cheese to heal up mid battle.

Author also has 0 idea of battle tactics that becomes painfully apparent as he tries to portray a tactical genius predicting ambushes with 100% accuracy with 0 Intel. There won't be ambushes at every ambush point as every military has limited resources, instead of charging at a point with 100% conviction the tactician should be sweeping areas methodically and minimizing damage from possible ambushes, sort of like a snake slowly constricting their prey and blocking any counterattack that could be mustered, rather than just pointing at an area and saying "they're here!".

Also inability to write a decent characterization so we get cartoonishly evil enemies. This also gives us a big question mark around why the second heroine would be popular at all as a member of an authoritarian dictatorship that literally enjoys killing children for sport. The only redeeming quality thus far is that she is "not as bad as literal nazis" because she says she doesn't look down on you if you're not aryan Asgardian (actually she does exactly that when she is first introduced but we pretend like she didn't).

Maybe it'll get better eventually but I'm not holding my breath. <<less

As far as JP harem romance novels go, this was surprisingly very fun to read, I'm generally not a fan of mech novels but this one was really good, I feel the low rating doesn't really reflect its quality, so I decided to leave a review. (Please note I started reading from the manga so I have no idea of the quality of the earlier translations)

Spoiler

The story basically about an otaku nerd who dropped out of school and spent all his time on a game, he grew to love the heroines in the game and became obsessed with preventing the death of both characters (usually one of the heroines could be saved by giving up on the other). He never succeeded but as a result he became the best player in the world.

He then crossed over to the world of the game with no explanation or cheats, but his skills in the game where the same ones used to pilot the mechas in this world so he's quite OP. Since the game world still follows the original story, he resolves to do what he couldn't do in the game, saving both heroines.

No surprise like most Japanese web novels, the MC is very naive, but unlike most, this time the naivety fits the story very well knowing the Mc's original situation and what he's trying to do.

The heroines are also very distinct and well defined with different personalities, they may be categorized as choroines (easy heroines) though, because they fall for the MC relatively quickly.

I also think the power scaling was done very well, though I must admit I was in it for the story and didn't think too deeply about things.

[collapse]

It's definitely not perfect but I definitely enjoyed it. For those who don't dislike these genres I recommend giving it a try. <<less
