In the seventh year of Guanghe, the Yellow Turban Rebellion erupted.

Qiao Yan woke up, bound to the strategist system with code 068, from the body of a dying girl amidst a field of corpses.

The system informed her that her goal was to become the top strategist in the realm.

Sitting atop a high mound of graves, she heard slogans in the distance proclaiming “The blue sky is dead, the yellow sky will rise.” Without hesitation, she allocated all her beginner points to her constitution.

System: ??????

Qiao Yan: Zhou Yu died at the age of thirty-five, Guo Jia at thirty-seven, Lu Su lived to forty-five. A strategist who laughs last lives longer than anyone else, like Sima Yi.

System: You make sense, but please put down the spear.

[Host has achieved achievement, dissuading Lu Bu from joining Dong Zhuo 1/1, progress reward has been sent to the backpack]

Qiao Yan: 🙂

The strategist system 068 felt that it had encountered a host that was not quite normal.

She applied to learn about farming and garrisoning.

Qiao Yan: Zao Zhi pioneered farming, was enfeoffed as a marquis, Zhuge Liang led a northern expedition, established farming in the front lines. A strategist who doesn’t know how to farm is not a good strategist.

[Host has achieved achievement, persuading Qingzhou soldiers to join 1/1, progress reward has been sent to the backpack]

She gathered Jia Xu and Li Ru.

Qiao Yan: The three giants of the Yingchuan, Nanyang, and Runan clans won’t accept me, so why not let me form my own clique?

[Host has achieved achievement, persuading Zhang Xiu to join 1/1, progress reward has been sent to the backpack]

She…

She…

She…

Strategist System 057: I envy you. You’ve encountered such a proactive host. Has she become the top strategist in the realm?

Strategist System 068: Thanks for the invitation. The system’s achievements have been exhausted, and the host has proclaimed herself emperor.

It's a very well-written, logical and steady story. While reading, you can feel that the author put all their efforts into it.

The genre "josei" explains the whole novel. The MC is an adult woman who goes to her goal step by step without wavering. She knows what she wants and considers her every move. I admire how the writer presented the MC's strategic talent and her ruthlessness in some cases.

The other point I like may seem too romantic, but we need something good in our reality, and that's why we... more>> read fantasy books.

Spoiler

The ascending as an emperor allowed our MC to overturn the status of the women as the "good for nothing lower beings worthy only to serve as the s*aves to their fathers, husbands and sons", and the first contact with the American civilization didn't turn into the massacre as in the real world

.

The system presented in the novel adds icing to the cake. It's not mechanical AI or an evil being that forces its host to the edge.
Spoiler

The sweet and silly newbie is fooled by its host but gets promoted in the end. The realm of the systems does not exist to make dead people suffer but to allow them to live their lives to the fullest after rebirth. I fell in love with how reasonable they are. Even their discussions about whether the rules can be broken and some bug fixing is written so well!

I didn't hesitate for a moment to give this gem a top rating. <<less

What if a history nerd get isekaid to Three Kingdoms period, get a strategist system, and plan for China domination?

But the problem are: (1) she is a girl. (2) only 10 years old.

Still, the protagonist executed plan step by step, and it is truly entertaining read.

... more>> Note: The novel is set on 2nd - 3rd century AD in China. Popularized as the story the Three Kingdoms, it borrowed heavily from that, especially the characters.

It is recommended that readers at least have preexisting knowledge about Three Kingdoms. Either reading the original story, playing strategy games ROTK, or playing Dynasty Warrior. Further knowledge about scholar-gentry culture of ancient china is a plus.

I read this novel while also opening Three Kingdoms map, so I can visualize the strategic situation of troops movement. <<less

I finished reading this by finding the raws and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. There is a ton of three kingdoms knowledge built into the novel, if you're a fan of that time period (even if it's just the games). You'll enjoy it quite a bit. Qiao Yan as our protagonist is simply a delight to read. She's incredibly smart and scheming, a perfect host for the Strategist System who thought of her a simple archeologist. Qiao Yan is anything but simple, she's down right frightening in... more>> terms of strategy and fore site. I also enjoyed how she continually tricked the system into things, which never failed to make me laugh. It's a 100% recommendation from me. Let's get into spoilers.

Her assassination of Sun Ce was both cold and a bit touching on how she revealed it. She had only kept him around and never messed with him to act as a sharp knife against the Gentry/nobles in the area he controlled. But when it came to unifying the world and it was time to start pushing, she needed Sun Ce's troops, but not Sun Ce who was a loose cannon. He would never be able to be a subordinate to someone for long, because he didn't respect anyone but his mother. Qiao Yan knew that Sun Ce would eventually rebel in the future, or muddle up everything in some capacity, so she had him killed with a poisoned arrow.

On his deathbed, she had them wake him up to pass on his last words. Then she had everyone leave and she talked to him alone. There she held his hand calmly and informed him that she was the one that killed him, but that the Sun family wouldn't fall. She promised to protect them for as long as she lived and that they would have a future in honor. Sun Ce died knowing who his killer was, and was satisfied that his death wasn't in vain. It was a sort of fitting ending for Sun Ce who constantly caused troubles in his neck of the woods.

Using his death as a righteous spring board, she took over his area and troops then marched for revenge against her enemy. I'm sure the mad lad Sun Ce was smiling XD lol

Let's talk after story.

Spoiler

Qiao Yan has 1 daughter in the extras. It never says where this daughter came from, but that it was her biological daughter and she never publicly declared who the father was. In later extra chapters there is a forum discussion about who possibly could have been the father and there was a lot of wild speculation as only the internet can have lol. Qiao Haun is precocious and hilarious. There is an entire extra arc devoted to her schooling in Leping Academy that is just, you gotta read it because I was laughing so much.

In the forum discussion we see a little more of her humor. Qiao Yan, before she passed on the throne to her left a memorial that was framed in the imperial study that basically amounted to. "If you ever leave, never be caught." She then signed her name, abdicated, then went on a journey and was never captured till the end of her life. Qiao Haun, following in her mother's foot steps, just before abdicating to her own daughter Meng. Broke into the glass frame and also signed her name, "Daughter Qiao Haun was never caught". Later, when Meng abdicated near the end of her own life, she also did the same signing it "Grandaughter Qiao Meng too" lol.

The rest I think I'll let everyone read for themselves. :) <<less

I think this book is a good read for multiple reasons, one would be that things are explained well, the dynamics are their and the relationship growth is interesting, I also think that the balance between the serious moments and the comic relief / anxiety reducers are very good, as a person that gets anxious easily this was a read that so has caused just enough anxiety to keep my reading and enough relief to make it worth while

While the story and characters are all interesting there are far too many names of people and places that maybe are more known in China rather than outside and I only recognize a few.

So I'd say it's worth a read but prepare to be overwhelmed with information

A very long winded journey of a genius history nerd rising from helpless young girl to overlord of China in the three kingdoms period.

Beware, as there is so much exposition and name dropping that your head will spin trying to keep track of everyone, plus their titles and polite names. This story delves into the weeds of three kingdoms stars everywhere with a good few dozen of them meeting MC before she even gets power.

The beginning chapters are fantastic and very character focused, however the story, themes, and identity of... more>> the novel begins to take a nosedive once the MC is out of the initial challenges and in the weeds of politics. All story progression nearly halts and becomes messy, the character goes from using guile and careful planning to just predicting things perfectly and making them happen thanks to her overwhelming strategic mind and ability to read any person.

MC is still hard working, but so often we and the system in the novel are just supposed to be surprised and accept everything that happens was planned for off screen. Other then that, MC is able to gather all kinds of help no matter her gender. She only faces one arc of resistance to her being a woman, and after that is treated as any other MC lord in ancient China.

All in all, a well researched and very dedicated story that is just too long winded, filled with three kingdoms exposition and generally a struggle to enjoy reading. <<less

A rather excellent read.

It does not go into the nitty gritty details and thus it doesn't drag out.

It establishes Qiao Yan's character properly too.

... more>> It's fast paced, it does not linger too long on each "arc".

Lots of interesting meetings of historical relevant characters.

The only bad thing is the wrong named used in a few places instead of the correct name. There's also the typical problems of He\She, but it's not annoying. Some text is missing\cut off so a little bit of context for some situations will not be there, but again it's not a big issue.

Characters:

They're not super deep, some is skindeep and some is abit deeper. Since this is not a novel about deep characterisation I find the depth offered by the novel to be just fine.

Qiao Yan is rather well created character, I wish she had a few weak sides. Atleast she isn't omnipotent and has to actually rely on her subordinates. She's meant to have the character of a true reknown emperor (empress) and this is true I feel.

Story:

I feel Qiao Yan adapted abit too fast, but she also had no choice considering her starting point.

Other than that it doesn't go super deep and drag things out. Nor is it skin deep. The pacing of the story is just about right not slowing down too long nor speeding to the action too fast.

There is some errors when it refers to the actual Three Kingdoms period with "historical info" and it leans more on the Romance of the Three kingdoms novel rather than history (certain fictional characters from the RoTK novel pop up in this novel such as Hua Xiong and Diaochan).

Despite a few errors and flaws, it's a delightful story either way.

Should you read it?

Yea give it a try. I wouldnt place it among the top favourites of mine, but it kept me awake alot just to binge read it. <<less

Like mc’s way of doing things very much. She knows what she wants to do and have ability to backup her actions. Very sober and rational when needed. I finished reading this novel without skimming though any of the chapters which makes me amazed at the fact that this is one of the novels which kept me wanting to finish reading in one go. The system was kinda cute when MC gives many reasons (nonsense) for her actions as a strategist. I kinda find it fun when MC does this.
