Sigh, this is such a good novel. Probably by far the lightest Priest novel I've read.

MC and ML are both matured, their relationship is also rather steady, but most definitely not smooth sailing (I mean, with all the forces against you, which relationship would be steady?) A lot of teasing from ML to MC and MC slso teases back sometimes.

Their bickering is cute and heart-warming. It's not the 'so fluffy I'm getting cavities' type but more like the kind where you'll sigh longingly as if you've witnessed their love... more>> going thru up and down and just finally settling down kind. The type where they give you the energy that they've been together for a long time and its just very domestic. It's hard to explain but, in short, they're either your grandpa or your sons.

Not happy ending for the

side ship though. Sigh, but they did have their happy ending — in another life, that is.

A very beautifully written story. It started with a man wanting to live freely, even with a risk for a limited time with his past tightly nailed within him. Ending with said man removing the nails in his life, to live hand in hand with the love of his life without the burden of time. With last extra about a man finally being freed from frozen time constraint.

For me, this story is a tale telling of 'life'. It is not perfect, but I am perfectly content reading it to completion.... more>>

There are some that dissatisfied not knowing Zhou Zhusi past (his parents, Liang Jiuxiao, his connection with Beiyuan), also Gu Xiang past (why was she abandoned, what makes Wen Kexing took her in). But we get to know the past of Wen Kexing (his parents, his hatred, his enemies). That is just how life roll. It is impossible to know the complete tale behind an existence. Like Ye Baiyi, like Zhang Chengling. There is always a missing piece or pieces. This story hold and told, the important components of each its character though.

The romance of WKX and ZZS feels completely natural to me. A rogue and a rogue, so the flirting can be extremely flirty and extremely violent. Though for some it might seems like that, but for me it feels completely natural. If asked, the time where I felt they are mutually attracted is after ZZS got kissed. The scene where ZZS himself feeling conscious by himself, remembering that kiss. I was like, ah this is turning point. Because, before that, ZZS is like an old man entertaining a spoiled child lol. Then ZZS begins actively bringing "rouge fragrance", to go find his paramour in that establishment. When before he ignore, now he actually fired back. Bit by bit, the two soulmates opened up to each other. And the final door opened when ZZS asked truthfully, if WKX is sincere (I love this scene). Not gonna lie, after that, I was suspicious ZZS is the gong, especially when he rescue WKX in the end. Because WKX really is useless hahaha. I felt ZZS resolved his own problems. Both are equal. So the extra where the position is determined with selling misery really suited them. After all, WKX said, the cutest person is a soft-hearted person with a soft-waist ;). Before the extra, I really felt they are monks, old married couple lol.

Zhou Zhusi embraced, that he had infact be cruel and a bad guy during his time being ambitious, silly person taking silly choices (as he said). That is why, throughout the story, he never hypocritically condemned any of the bad characters. He had embraced his past, still carrying the torment of the burden and spying eyes of the one he once served. It is admirable how the carefree him, hiding under his disguise, slowly expanding his world under the light (as compared with his past hidden in the dark) and come to be greedy again, per human raw instinct, wanting to live longer, wanting to love, wanting to be free of the nails of his past, never putting a mask anymore. As long as one live, they really will never stop wanting.

I also liked when he asked Wen Kexing if he 'wants' to live, as he understood the struggle of 'wanting' to live.

I just don't know though, what is Tian Chuang takes on him after all of this? Since he disguised himself because he knows they still got their eyes on him. Probably the Emperor and Tian Chuang is explained more in Lord Seventh. But, ever since Zhou Zhusi taking Ye Baiyi words to live openly, I was wondering about Tian Chuang.

Then we had Wen Kexing. The one where his past is basically where he was pushed to the extreme. His extremely strict father denied his childhood until he is 10. He knows he will really be skinned by the Ghosts, so he shows how he can be madder by eating clean his own father. Human really did bizarre choices sometimes. When the Ghost really took him in after that, I had to stop reading, contemplating for awhile. What Wen Kexing did also shows how this small child had biased or grievance of a child. Because he choose to eat his father (a strict father, a nice friend that took possession of something unknown bringing the disaster), not his mother. I love the aspect where, he spends his thirty years living as a Ghost for avenging his parents. Because that is what left in his life, hatred. But wavering to continue living in a dream when he meet Zhou Zhusi because he learn to love again. Surrender to die in Scorpion's hand after losing Gu Xiang and avenging her death. Because all along, he is insecure to continue living, alone. It is tiring being a bad guy (quote by Zhou Zhusi). But when Zhou Zhusi saved him, and asked if he 'want' to live, and he asked "will you stay beside me, till grey hairs", I shed tears. In life, you really just wanted to find that someone, that will accompany you till the end of your day.

Cao Weining and Gu Xiang. These two basically there to show there are pure hearted people, fully trusting their Master/ those close to them; no matter if one is born in a good or bad house. Because people really be living in a gray house. And as usual, these pure hearted souls, always, commonly died tragically young. Either in the hand of the person they trusted (Cao Weining), or for the person they trusted (Gu Xiang). The extra about them also a nice touch in the book. Consistent with how it is set in a world that believe in reincarnation, good merits ease your next life.

Then we had Zhang Chengling and Gao Xianlian killed the Scorpion. One of the main conspirator that killed their father. It is satisfying, how ZZS's mercy actually gave them opportunity to do it. I love that Gao Xianlian went back to her sect while Zhang Chengling basically went offering to be adopted to our main CP.

The last extra really coined the book well. Six Harmonies are just like life. We each were given life with each respective conditions, but that is only half of it. The other half is how we are going to live the life till the end. The people besotted with Six Harmonies are just people that envying other people life. So they get distracted off track of their life line which commonly got cut off earlier than others.

How Ye Baiyi never wished for immortality, but it is thrown freely to him while he is simply trying to save a dear person. How he understood the philosophy of Six Harmonies (life) unintentionally, while others madly gambling their own and others lives to get a glimpse of it (Rong Changqing, Rong Xuan, Zhao Jing). No one really knows Six Harmonies, yet everyone was fighting for it. But the clear minded one will regard it as demon and bringer of trouble - Ye Baiyi the one that had seen it, Wen Kexing the key holder/destroyer that can verify it exist and implicated, Zhou Zushi the analyst that make judgement it exist but so do trouble. The ending? Human in the end will wants to end as human. Not one as Heaven, not one as a Ghost.

Oh not forgetting the fact that Ghost are proven human in the end. Devil practitioner, righteous practitioner; in the end, if one is too obsessed with life (power, greed), then they will still die and bleed red blood.

Tbh, I come across this one years back but didn't read it due to tragedy tag. It did have a tragedy but it is for others, not main CP. If only I know back then. I started Word of Honor (the drama adaptations), around 2 episodes and I got to know it is actually from this novel. I stopped watching to read the book first. To get the feel of the characters and author's intention. Now I am at episode 6, and saw that many scenes were indeed changed. The book was great, while the drama was good so far. Though it really feels like it lack author's intention and shows more of director's take on it. The main casts though did give the main characters vibe splendidly.

What is lamentable for me is the translation quality. I just feel like it didn't give full justice to the story. Can't complain much though, for 77 chapters, it did changed translators three times. <<less

As expected of Priest this was an air tight adventure with a plethora of charming and lovely characters. A bit of a found family type thing.

Even though the plot ended without loose ends, something about it still wasn't to my taste, is why I'm giving it four stars. I didnt think the story wrapped up in as clever or as satisfying of a way as I'd hoped. Also there were lots of characters I wanted to know more about so I felt a bit let down.

I still really recommend this... more>> though. For me there was never a scene that was a chore to get through. The individual scenes and the character dynamics really make this. They'll make you laugh and warm your heart. The main CP have become one of my favourites.

The ending was very bitter sweet.... Our main CP get their HE but not without some loss first.

So yeah. Overall. Story with lots of heart and definitely worth a read.

Thanks so much to the three translators.

Also if you're thinking of reading Lord Seventh, you ought to read that before you read Faraway Wanderers but it's not essential. <<less

I hope we will find some more hot love scenes in the novel. Now, the novel has been adapted to be made as a BL Series. It follows the original plot quite well, so there are a lot of sweet moments between the ML.

Its a good read. There isnt much plotting like other wuxia novel more like a group of people trying to solve a mystery that has brought uproar to the martial arts world.

I agree with one comment saying that the MC has almost no impact in the story he is there only to act like a detective in order to protect chengling.

I think the shinning point of this novel is definitely this group of people interaction. They are what we would say a found family.

My favorite character is definitely chengling I... more>> wish there are sequel about him because his background is definitely main character worthy

Anyway if you want to read wuxia story that isnt so heavy to read this is definitely your go to. <<less

The characters in the censored drama had more chemistry than here.

I'm used to watching dramas based on novels and if I like the drama enough or slightly about the novel, I'd also read it. Some novels are better than their adaptations while some adaptations are better than the source materials. This definitely falls into the latter category.

I was in love with the live adaptation and decided to check the novel out, but was sorely disappointed. They say that though Priest doesn't focus on the romance, the plot and World building... more>> is usually top notch, and while this is evident in their other novels, here both the plot and the romance are severely lacking. The ending was very very very lackluster, the plot was half baked and I was left wondering if there was actually any romantic feelings between the protagonists. Definitely my least favourite novel from Priest. <<less

I loved it, and I loved how short it was compared to other novels. But I find Priest's novels too complicated for me, usually with a lot of politics. But even though I quite enjoyed it and was motivated to finish it. Great read.

I completely forgot to write a review and now I can’t remember how this book made me feel.
I know I liked it and it’s one of my favorites from Priest. Its characters are charismatic and all, even the secondary ones, have importance in the story. It will make you laugh and cry, because history has everything, including romance. The ending is definitely much better than the series, but I still recommend it.
Um, at the time I gave him three stars maybe today I would give him something else, but I would have to reread it in order to make a decent review (_).

Finished the novel and now watching the drama series. I have to say this is not an outstanding work but it was okay. The plot is overall good and personally I would like more romance bwt the 2 mains. This is heavily plot-focused and romamce is only subtly there.

One of the best BL novel i've ever read, probably the best one. The feelings, the bickering, their love is overwhelming. They totally match each other. I love the two MLs in the same way

Still reading but i'll edit when the translation is finished

As of now is a funny, mistery long romance drama that isnt angsty even tho someone is dying (no spoiler, is in the tagsss!!)

A criptic story in the sense that many jokes would be lost in translation, thanks to the traductor for the lengtened explanations otherwise I would have quited despise how good the story is

An enjoyable read. Now for the breakdown

The background characters are well rounded but as most big things happen while the leads are not on scene they end up dying and furthering the narrative without us witnessing it. They show up as needed but might as well not exist in other times sort of like, how irl things just go down and u never find out most of the story cause u not in the circle of ppl who know so the gossip don't even exist in your vicinity.

The couple is... more>> great, I love.

The couple might be a switch tbo I feel like they are but if you don't that's your business.

Totally should watch the cdrama like fr you only have to gain things from it.

A NOTE FOR EVERYONE -----> there's a 5th extra on a ggl docs that's not on NU that's set about 5years post main plot. <<less
