I really loved this novel. I’ve started reading it some time ago with tlm but it was hard to keep up and made a lot of confusion. I’m very grateful for the translations we have now 🙏🏻
I totally recommend it ☺️

Well, I will say it is a very good story. And for those who may not know it seems to be related to Lord seventh. Both are very gooood.

The MC is like a old man, who has seen the worst of the world. He can bear the pain and loneliness all the fine. Despite knowing that his life is going to end soon.

He goes on wandering the world and earns himself a clingy disciple and a master-disciple pair goes on entangling with him. This whole group, each with their own... more>> stories find themselves uncovering a mystery.

While on it ML finds himself falling for MC. But then he suddenly finds that MC is going to die.

And I have only read till here. So read to find more.

Let me tell you I have read almost all novels, which are worth reading. And there are only six or seven, which are worth my appreciation. And this is one of them.

I love HE novels. <<less

One of my favorites, tho I haven't finished it. I love the relationship between MC and ML. They are always teasing and flirting with each other.

There's a complex and political backdrop to the story, and the plot contains elements of mystery. Although we know the gist of MC's background at the beginning, theres mystery about the MC's history and actual self that we discover along the way. The same goes for the ML.

I read this novel a long time ago, and I cannot stop thinking about how good it was, It was very funny, but also very sad, I loved how creative it was, the plot was fantastic and the side characters have their own personality and their own story, I really cannot express how much I loved it, 10/10 one of my favorites, also I watched the show "Word of Honor" adaptation of the novel, and it was amazing, I love the actors and all the scenes are very pretty, but... more>> the show was kind of different, a lot of things missing because of censorship and it's really sad. Also sometimes it was hard for me to understand some things about the plot and I was confused but it gets easier and I always ended up understanding everything.

I will never forgive Priest for killing Gu Xiang and Cao Weining, I literally cried so much

I had been in a bit of a novel slump lately and this got me through it. From just the first few chapters I was so invested in the story and I love the dynamic between Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing.

I did feel that the ending was a tad bit rushed, but it didn't take away from my overall enjoyment. I also would have liked to see more of them in the extras or just more of them after confirming their relationship in general.

Haven't watched the Word of Honor drama... more>> yet, but this definitely encouraged me to do so as I want to see more of them. This was the first Priest work that I've actually finished and now I'm thinking to revisit the ones I shelved (Lord Seventh & Liu Yao). <<less

This was the one of the earliest webnovels I ever read. Picked it up because it was so wildly popular and everyone seemed to love it. I was not a fan upon first read, thought the writing was overly pretentious and had too many literary references, and the plot and all the different factions were confusing to me.

After reading and loving the prequel, Lord Seventh, I decided to give this one another go. Liked it more on the second read, but still think it’s overhyped. It’s good but not like... more>> THAT good. Priest definitely has other works that are way better, in my opinion.

What I still don't like: still think all the different factions is overly complicated and confusing. Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but Gu Xiang and Cao whatever his name is were both so annoying to me. I can see that Priest meant them as comic relief + ML’s relationship with Gu Xiang proves he has human emotions, but... I just wanted to groan and close the tab every time either of them made an appearance.

What I like: the banter between MC and ML, the fact that ML does not at all try to hide his attraction to MC, the growth arc of Zhang Chengling (I think that’s his name? I’m writing this review a year after the last time I read it lol), cameos from characters that were in Lord Seventh (which I still like better than this one). Still not a huge fan of all the references but at least now I get that it makes sense with ML’s personality.

Overall I would say this book is a satire disguised as a wuxia adventure novel. So in that sense I can appreciate the thought that went into it, but while in the midst of reading it, I don’t find it as enjoyable as some of Priest’s other works. <<less

Another banger from Priest. Faraway Wanderers is a "sequel" to Lord Seventh, although aside from certain reoccuring characters it is fine to read this as a standalone. Out of Priests novels, this is probably the most romance focused one (out of the ones I've read). There is a LOT of intimate tension between the MC and the ML, mostly because both are sly foxes with a bunch of expertise when it comes to the ways of the underworld.

I am giving one point down because the plot sometimes felt a bit... more>> convoluded, but still very gripping. <<less

What do I have to say about Faraway Wanderers...., well.... the main character Zhou Zishu is really likable simply because he just exudes a cool aura. and the male lead, Wen Kexing, is obnoxious but in a handsome and endearing way. Their interactions with each other involve a lot of funny one-sided flirting. The main plot involves solving a mu*der mystery and investigating the past to find the real culprit. It is pretty entertaining. Overall, while reading this novel look forward to enjoying the process of the journey and be... more>> prepared to both laugh and cry.

My only complaint with this novel is it feels a bit too slow in some places. I really wanted to urge characters to hurry up and get on with it in several places. I almost wanted to rate this as 4 stars because of that. But all works by priest have a high quality feel to them, like a priceless fine brush painting in a museum that may not always be interesting but is created with a true feeling of artistry, so I feel I can't give it below 5 stars.

Also, I highly recommend that you read Lord Seventh before reading Faraway Wanderers!!! It's fine to read them alone too because they're overall separate stories, but you will get a little more context for the world the story takes place in and the backgrounds of some other characters if you read Lord Seventh first. <<less

It's my first time reading Priest's story that's why I was quite curious on some of the comments regarding how amazing Priest's works were and I don't know what to expect. For me, this is an ok read and thought I was reading a story with 100+chps.

What made me stick to this was my curiousity on how the leads were able to put the pieces of the mysteries, gradually, in places. And, Good thing I wasnt expecting for a fluffy romance because this one only has minimal to none 'romance'... more>> aspect and is more focused on action, adventure, and questions. But
Spoiler

The death of some side characters really did caught me off guard and their extra chp made me relieve and bitter at the same time because they werent able to find happiness in that current timeline

On the end note, If you are looking for a wholesome, easy and fluffy read, this isn't for you. But if youre looking for action and mystery packed, you might want to give this a try <<less

To begin, I highly suggest anyone interested in reading this book to read Qi Ye beforehand.
Spoiler

Characters from Qi Ye appear in Tian Ya Ke (since Qi Ye is the prequel to this book), and once you meet them in Tian Ya Ke, that feeling of excitement explodes.

[collapse]

Continuing with Tian Ya Ke, Zhou Zhisu and Wen Kezing's relationship isn't rushed nor is forced; it's natural and unbiased to the point that you have to gaze blankly at the end of the novel and wonder, "Oh, so it's like that..." — it's how romance is meant to be written in a masterful storytelling.
Spoiler

and how stalking is supposed to be, taught by our evil baby WKX lmao

[collapse]

The plot, on the other hand, is fairly thick if one does not remember the characters and their goals. The plot wasn't the kind of disarrayed cycled overused plot, it's the simple yet 'wow' kind.

Another amazing point is the supporting characters, who, despite their status as minor characters, are not ignored. Priest had done an excellent job in developing each of the book's various characters, each with their own unique personality traits and backstories, to the point that I could determine who was who based on just one line of dialogue. Their (main and supporting) characters' personalities are very logical as they come from different backgrounds too, and I think Priest's ability to portray them excellently and in such a variety of ways was very outstanding. I could even feel the misery of the side characters which I rarely could.

Also, the number of chapters, in my opinion, is appropriate for those who are unable to read a book with a hundred chapters. I promise, you won't be bored with this collection of fluff, angst, fantasy, and romance! <<less

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do! It's great, especially if you're in it for the characters. The couple is so refreshing, it steers away (mostly) from usual BL stereotypical couples.

The plot was actually pretty good! It was straight to the point, while still keeping the mysteries of the plot, and leading you on the journey to find out the truth.

Now on to what I loved. The main characters and their chemistry. It's honestly so hard to find characters who I adore both individually AND... more>> together!

  • Even tho ML follows MC around, he's not doing it like in other novels where the MC clearly is uncomfortable and hates being followed.
  • MC finds him mildly annoying, sure, but also doesn't mind it as much as he says he does, and is interested in him as well.
  • MC is lowkey tsundere and it's cute lmao
  • not the typical couple you see in BLs, there is no definite "dominant".
  • They're both badass, and MC doesn't suddenly become "weak" to the MLS advances
  • They both flirt like crazy, it's funny because everyone is scared of them, but then they start flirting and play fighting in front of literally the whole world XD (and in a tense situation too lmaoo)
  • The best moments of the novel are when they talk, cause you can tell how they come to like each other, and its funny, yet heart warming in a way
  • They both have secrets, and dark pasts, and regrets, and they've felt alone for so long until meeting each other.
  • When they meet, it always feels like they've known e/o for years, they understand e/o so well
Overall, I definitely will reread for the interaction between not only the couple, but everyone else!! <<less

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't watched the drama yet. My opinion of this book is as a sequel to Lord Seventh/Qi Ye. In fact, I read it almost immediately after it.

So this review is coloured only by my feelings for these characters as I read them in Qi Ye and not the drama.

...

... more>> Zhou Zishu is on a personal mission to live his remaining years peacefully, as a free bird in the jianghu. Of course, peace doesn't stay for long.

After years of service to the Emperor, Helian Yi, he could only leave by crippling his health so that he would meet his end in about 3 years. And that is exactly when he runs into the man who is a match for him in every way he could desire, Wen Kexing.

A story about revenge plots, backstabbings, friendships, love and healing. From having nothing to live for, to wanting to live because of finally found companionship.

Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are not good men, or have any claim as righteous ones either. But they definitely try to do good deeds, if only to be worthy of each other.

Or, in the words of Zhou Zishu, "Being a bad person, is too lonely... too painful. Which is why we want to be good to others, so others will be good to us."

It was a complex plot, with too many characters to keep track of, but it was highly enjoyable nonetheless. Priest's characters are beautifully written as always, and the translators have worked hard!

I just finished reading this so this is gonna be a fresh review. Let me just start off by saying the only other priest novel I've read is lord seventh which is actually the prequel to this and so when lord seventh and the great shaman started making appearances I was like AhhhHHHH I know them their relationship is so great. But that aside, on to the actual novel, I binged this in roughly 3-4 days. The beginning starts off in a way that is intriguing and really pulls you... more>> in and as the plot develops further and the mystery pursues it just makes you want to keep going and unravel it all at once. Zhou Zishu and Wen Kixing make a good pair given their respective pasts.

*somewhat of a minor spoiler ahead*

Spoiler

I was somewhat expecting wen kixing to be that person from zhou zishu's past but he wasn't and that actually made it even better because honestly the whole knowing each other when young and then going off on their own and later on coming together unaware of each other's identities troupe is kind of overused.

[collapse]

I read a lot of reviews before starting this novel so I was expecting some heavy angst and tbh it was less than what I prepared myself for (to be fair tho I read a lot of heavy angst so my standards are out of whack lol).

*major spoilers ahead*

Spoiler

I mean the side couple's ending was really tragic tho, Gu Xiang and Cao Weining deserved better and they did get better, you can see in the extra that they got to be reborn into a good life that they could spend with each other so that kind of made that better (still sad tho but all's well that ends well)

[collapse]

Spoiler

For me the saddest/most angsty parts were when zhou zishu discovered that he did in fact want to live and not just die out after three years (because of the nails) and then having to come to a bitter realization that he can't (I mean he does find a way to get them removed later on and gets better and live but still) and also Wen Kixing's back story AhhHHHHhhH I mean I just fnished reading so I'm still processing him but oh my goodness the way he had to see his dead parents massacred in such a way and also literally eat his dead father AhhHhHhH Honestly I just wanna give them both a hug (I might die if I tried hahahaha)

[collapse]

ANYWAYS I'm gonna stop ranting and just say this was definitely a good read absolutely loved the way everything was put together and the way it wasn't super predictable and there was always some sort of unexpected twists was really great! <<less

Sigh, this is such a good novel. Probably by far the lightest Priest novel I've read.

MC and ML are both matured, their relationship is also rather steady, but most definitely not smooth sailing (I mean, with all the forces against you, which relationship would be steady?) A lot of teasing from ML to MC and MC slso teases back sometimes.

Their bickering is cute and heart-warming. It's not the 'so fluffy I'm getting cavities' type but more like the kind where you'll sigh longingly as if you've witnessed their love... more>> going thru up and down and just finally settling down kind. The type where they give you the energy that they've been together for a long time and its just very domestic. It's hard to explain but, in short, they're either your grandpa or your sons.

Not happy ending for the

side ship though. Sigh, but they did have their happy ending — in another life, that is.

As expected of Priest this was an air tight adventure with a plethora of charming and lovely characters. A bit of a found family type thing.

Even though the plot ended without loose ends, something about it still wasn't to my taste, is why I'm giving it four stars. I didnt think the story wrapped up in as clever or as satisfying of a way as I'd hoped. Also there were lots of characters I wanted to know more about so I felt a bit let down.

I still really recommend this... more>> though. For me there was never a scene that was a chore to get through. The individual scenes and the character dynamics really make this. They'll make you laugh and warm your heart. The main CP have become one of my favourites.

The ending was very bitter sweet.... Our main CP get their HE but not without some loss first.

So yeah. Overall. Story with lots of heart and definitely worth a read.

Thanks so much to the three translators.

Also if you're thinking of reading Lord Seventh, you ought to read that before you read Faraway Wanderers but it's not essential. <<less
