All his life, the MC has spent his dreams witnessing the life of a man in a modern cultivation world. In the meanwhile, MC lives in a more ancient cultivation setting, and at some point he is forced to use a su*cide attack to protect his sect. When he wakes, he is in the modern of the man in the modern world.

For now not much has happened. The MC's new body is bad at cultivating but of course the MC knows a rare way of cultivating to circumvent that weakness... more>> and become powerful. Also, the modern guy whose body he is in was in an arranged marriage with the ML, a situation the MC now has to deal with.

Of course the ML is described as being blind and a 'waste', but I'm pretty sure that's code for 'he's secretely super badass and hiding his strength for some reason'.

Anyway, great story so far. I'm eager to read more. <<less

Translator worked hard, thank you. Main couple lovely. Modern day cultivation setting unique, kudos.

Too bad I DETEST this book!

Spoiler

Not in regards to main characters. R-pe used by author just to forward main couple's story- gross point #1. Basically pedophilia- gross point #2. R-pe apparently goes without punishment- gross point #3. Victim ends up with abuser- gross point #4. Something that serious and life changing just gets swept under the rug by the characters and the author- gross point #5. Yeah, yeah, it's a part of a lot of stories in this genre, but something about this storyline set me off. Maybe because the characters kept saying it was bad, but the actions of the characters didn't support that. Literally, abuser got beaten up and the author wrote that victim was now even with the abuser... wth? Anyways, ruined an otherwise good novel. Sorry for my rant, if you see my other reviews, you'll know I'm usually pretty mild-mannered.

I think giving this 2 stars is generous enough. It´s not bad, but it´s nothing worth to look at either. Seems the author just followed others work and made a generic novel. The summary was what hooked me, but unfortunately the story falls short. What really puts one off is how it´s casually mentioned that MC is married to a man. Leaving the reader confused. Apparently it´s common in the world MC now lives in but clearly that world is a normal world, so how can it be so causally... more>> dismissed and MC accepting it so fast? It seems the author hates explaining, or can´t.

Really boring and unmemorable novel, not to mention fast-paced. <<less

The story is impressive but becomes a little lack-luster in the latter part. There are 60 main chapters and 2 chapters (epilogue) describing the side couple.

The theme is not only wuxia but also other supernatural elements such as vampires.

The MC is a core disciple of his sect who dreams of his modern persona every night. So when he transmigrated except a few instances he had no problem in adapting to modern world. He later publicizes himself as an array master to hide his growing cultivation. The MC is smart and... more>> intelligent. He knows that his personality may make others suspicious but he also knows that although he 'wasn't' He Zhou before, he 'is' now.

The ML fell in love at first sight with our MC. This may seem a little unconvincing but it's just that. The man is black-bellied but clearly knows to use his weak appearance to entice love from MC. He later realised that MC may only come to love his weaker side if that goes on and so has shown his prowess multiple times protecting the MC.

The main villain was completely lack-luster. He was impressive first few instances due to the mystery surrounding him but it completely vanished when the MC knew his identity and completely used his prowess to destroy him even though he (MC) had help of another side character. The villain turned out to be completely disastrous. A no-brainer.

The mix-matched competition between different supernatural elements - Xianxia, Western Fantasy and Japanese Ninjitsu - was an interesting arc. It would be more fun if it was well-elaborated.

The sect-making part that MC wanted to do was completely not mentioned. It directly went from no-sect status to super-sect status just from one chapter to the next. I wanted to see the process.

The novel is short if compared to other 1000-2000 chapters' novels yet the interaction between the MC and ML is the main selling point which makes it wonderful to read. It would be more impressive if the villain proved to be even a little more of challenging... So, my rating can only be ⭐⭐⭐⭐. <<less

It has potential but too bad, it seems rushed. Can't feel any attachment to the main characters. It's either too cliche or fast paced and some things just don't make sense. Few chapters in and MC is already trying to protect ml. Aside from being mysterious, ML really doesn't have that much of a personality. It's just too predictable. For me, the story is not bad but it's not good either. Couldn't bring myself to finish it.

It wasn't really worth 4 stars, but I added a star because the translator added SMUT!!! ?? THANK YOU, TN!!

The story itself was mediocre. The main characters had bland personalities.

Each time there was a major event, I felt no tension, no suspense and often times the author omitted detail that I felt were crucial. For instance a chapter would end where something might have been revealed but in the next chapter it didn't really explain... ?

And some times things were mentioned in the story that had me scratching my head... more>> and asking "wait why is that a reveal when he already revealed it?!"

For example

Spoiler

The r*pe of his cousin affected the MC and scared him from being intimate with the ML. However, the ML revealed this to him chapters before the MC revealed it himself. SO WHY DID THE AUTHOR MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IT WAS SOMETHING NEW?! ?

[collapse]

Anyway, the story was readable. Nothing to rave about. But the translator rocked!!! ? <<less

This is really good. The MC is a cultivator that is transmigrated into modern time but he does know how things work because every night he falls asleep he dreams about the body he's currently in. He's really naive because even though he's lived for a really long time, he only cared about cultivating. The interactions between the MC and ML are really cute too. The MCs hosts family doesn't immediately think that, oh, he was in an accident, it's only reasonable that he knows arrays now and has a... more>> completely different personality. They actually look into it and make sure that he's actually who he says he is. <<less

We'll see if I pick this up again.

I liked the beginning and the premise promised to be good, but then it just became kind of boring.

The story is fast-paced but fails to really delve into any of the genres it presents. There's a crime-solving aspect per MC's arrays and helping the police, a school-university aspect with MC's dorm mates and taking on disciples, the domestic/relationship/marriage aspect, a cultivation competition with rivalry (werewolves/ wizards/ vampires) but all of it is glossed over with only a few generic scenes.

The worldbuilding is pretty... more>> lackluster and the author introduced a lot of interesting ideas (supernatural police, modern cultivation families, other country myths/legends) without actually exploring them.

Spoiler

Also super cringe "r*pe is ok" feeling where the author semi-justifies MC's brother's rapist (and blackmailer) by making him super handsome/attractive/powerful/whatever-the-f*ck-ally to imply that the dude was just "bad at showing affection" or "bad at chasing" the MC's younger bro. Not cool.

And yes, he becomes the brother's lover in the extras. *eye roll

Re/ some of the reviews:

  • The blackbelly ML hiding it is pretty prevalent trope (especially BG novels). I'm not surprised by this one since the MC is acting out the "straight-male" trope. Not very original or interesting at all since I'm almost at the end of the book and the MC still has no clue...
  • There's no crazy h*mophobia or reaction about MC being married to a dude. I like variety and I see no issue with this setting. It's obviously an alternate universe with cultivation and supernatural creatures, not much wrong with also removing the gay panic? The author could have done a better job with it by presenting us with other gay married couples to show that it's commonplace (they don't, so the MC and ML seem to be a weird "exception" which is poor worldbuilding).

I like the story so far although suddenly known that transmigrated MC has already married kinda surprised me, but MC and ML relationship is still new and sweet. So far there hasn't been dog food to eat but I can already predict we will be full of it.

I also realized why this novel was titled this way lololololol... ori body of MC couldn't cultivate but when MC take over, he can cultivate, so ML tested him in some ways (this is modern world with martial art cultivation setting)... also cause... more>> he is diff from the original (past) I suspect ML would use his blindness to test MC more... but we can wait and see at latter chaps

ML moe gap is so cute!!! He was a male-god and has the aura of one but What is it that asking to live together result in blushing!?!?!? Aaaaaa... so cute aaaaaa~~~ even MC find it adorable aaaaa

Love this novel!!!! Feed me more dog food!!! <<less

To be honest, its a very generic novel. The reason I gave 4 stars is the fast pacing.

The story moves forward very quickly. Nothing is explained in detail. The cultivation terms can be confusing for those unfamiliar with these type of novels.

The MC and ML are good together. The best thing was that the MC's family was great. No cliche of bad step-mother and siblings. MC's family is super supportive. A big plus.

The villain is taken care of pretty quickly. No mention of why MC dreamed about this world. There... more>> are a lot of loose ends and unexplained stuff.

Overall, a fast-paced story with romance and drama.

The translator has done a great job. <<less

Unfortunately, the story has a great premise but no depth. The characters are flat and have no real distinguishing thoughts. The little emotional dramas and struggles the MC is supposed to face after transmigration is sacrificed on the altar of Fluff.

The characters actions and reactions to things are just... too illogical. It's like the MC can't be anything other than soft with ML though he claims he was once a sect leader. The family and people ask no questions about his character suddenly changing.

Another story that proves too much fluff... more>> kills stories. <<less

The modern cultivation world is certainly unique, my first time reading about such a setting. Other that that, I found this story rather boring.

He Zhou and Wen Renyi are both gentlemen, their characters are quite similar and their interactions are rather plain. If the pretending-to-be-weak element were exaggerated more, I'd think there could've been more amusing or humorous scenes, but in the end it wasn't that important at all. It's nice that they were a real power couple, but the sauciest piece of romance between them was the NSFW scene... more>> written by the translator (bless). Otherwise minimal 'romance', no humour, dull dialogue and action sequences.

There are a lot of side-characters that weren't very memorable, but with some concentration I was able to differentiate between them at least. The main mystery of the necklace and the foreign organisation were resolved smoothly and without much tension. <<less

I was trying to discern what felt off about this novel halfway through. The pacing seemed off and the plot\world didn’t seem to mesh with the supernatural aspect. I had to put it down after realizing I very much rather be reading something else; it seemed to lose its appeal that it had in the beginning. Overall it’s a easy, calm read.

Even though the plot is good but word building is lacking.

I don't feel attached to the novel. It's like I could not engrossed myself into the novel unlike other novels where you can feel what the character is feeling via words and all.

Everything seemed too shallow somehow even though the plot was good.

I picked up the novel because it only had 60 chapters but still couldn't complete it.

Translator has done good job. They even added well written smut.

A doting ML, smart and capable MC, power couple, and harmonious relationship. The MC and ML are both equally doting on each other. The MC initiates sometimes, which is nice. The ML is patient and mindful of his partner's consent. Their interactions are soo sweet and fluffy, come across plenty of scenes with kisses and cuddling that I've turned to goo. Cultivation in a modern world. Living among non-cultivator civilians, crime, mystery, and dangerous drugs abound. I find it interesting as it's the first time I've come across it so... more>> atm I find it quite novel. <<less

I've picked up and dropped this novel twice. 🤣 I still can't finish it, I think I dropped the novel the first time around this chapter too.

The thing is, this novel starts off really fascinating. I love modern day cultivation novels and good looking MCs so I'm always super excited when I find a novel that has these themes. What this novel fails to do though, is deliver a consistent storyline.

  • Cultivation is a big secret from normal "ordinary" people, yet how do we have these 4 prestigious families and so many special divisions in the military and police related to cultivators? Literally crimes are being committed and cultivators are stepping in to stop the crimes and you have regular citizens making videos so how is there secret not leaked out?
  • Cultivators don't need to focus on ordinary people things like business and finance etc... But what money are the big cultivation families living off of if their cultivation is a secret and working a regular job is looked down for "wastes" only?
  • How did ML fall in love with MC? I still don't understand, ML knew 6 years ago there's plots against MC so he... Offers to marry MC 6 years later to keep him safe and apparently doesn't know what he looks like even though he is supposedly keeping track of his safety?? Like, even reports would have a picture right??
  • Cultivation vs ninjas vs vampires vs witches and wizards. My brain gave up there.
  • Plus, check tags.
  • Spoiler

I know author wants to make MC seem good and innocent but him as an adult not knowing what s*x is just doesn't make sense of he's clearly aware of how babies are made. I feel like author added his cousin's r*pe scene just to introduce s*x to MC and all but that was poorly done and I don't like how MC didn't try to have any follow up with his teenaged cousin and check if he was okay. And also how the heck did ML also know what happened in the hotel to reassure MC that they'll be different? He didn't have spies there not did MC tell him. What's with the telepathy. And why didn't he try to coach MC that there's a difference between r*pe and love??

Story's good, it's something you read after a longer/more serious novel. Somethings were confusing or left out but you generally don't notice it unless you actively look for it. It's fine.

The main relationship between MC and ML is very fluffy and wholesome. They actually talk to each other and misunderstandings are easily resolved. It's a very realistic relationship. They don't follow the stereotypes of normal gongs/shous and their relationship doesn't rely on s*xual pleasure.

The confrontation between villain and MC is kind of disappointing especially considering their past relations and how... more>> the villain led on the MC this entire novel. He didn't seem as calculating and imposing as the author initially described him as, leaving his demise not particularly satisfying.

The supporting characters are.. Well.. Just supporting characters. The story can go on without them. Half of the people I forgot their relevance. (Also, whats Gars motivation? He's sickeningly one-sided)

The world building is fine and a bit unique. I thought this was considered wuxia but then they introduced wolves and vampires. I assume the abilities of each country is decided by their history regarding the supernatural and martial arts. It was a new experience.

The minor relationship that the author focuses on is very toxic. Like, very toxic. The gong constantly r*ped the shou and it was even said that he developed trauma from this. However, in the extra chapters, the gong is forgiven by the shou. Even the He family don't like him very much, so I'm very confused as to why he just said 'let bygones be bygones' with no explanation. He even consented to dual cultivation (basically just sex) ?? This is by far the most disappointing and frustrating thing in this novel.

If it weren't for the main relationship, I would rate this novel 3 stars, I started off on 4 stars when reading this, but the way they just excuse the behavior of that rapist is frustrating. I'll rate this 4 stars, but in actuality my rating is 3.5. <<less

In all honestly to begin with I'm not a huge fan of modern cultivation novels. For this one, I felt like they tried, but the intersection of modern and cultivation seems a but unclear and worldbuilding was not all that successful.

The story isn't terrible though.

On another note, literally every time our MC steps out the door he meets with some rogue cultivator going crazy and getting involved in a criminal case like wUT how did people survive before he came here.
