This novel is about Chen Feng, a down on his luck kid of unknown origin, and the famed tr*sh of a backwater sect. He is so unlucky, he even ended up getting struck by someone else’s Tribulation Lightning. And yet, maybe not.

For when the Tribulation Lightning descended upon him, it triggered something that he had been carrying with him all this time, granting him a cultivation technique so powerful, it would turn his world upside down.

I should have read the reviews before trying this novel, but like some of the others I was tricked by WuxiaWorld's endless promotion of this garbage.

Wuxia as a genre is full of derivative bile, but this series is a special flavor of dumpster-fire. The author violates almost every rule of fiction. Show don't tell, worldbuilding, character agency, pacing, plot and subplot all get thrown right out the window.

First, the MC. What does the MC look like? Young male, not too tall and somewhat thin. Any other features? Eye color, hair... more>> color/style, manner of dress, handsome/average/ugly? The author doesn't bother with such trivial details. What are the MC's goals? Well, avenge a master who is never shown and only revealed through a single paragraph of exposition. No other aspirations, likes, dislikes, or personality traits are ever established. Like a leaf he is blown wherever the Deus Machina wind decides to take him.

How about secondary characters? How about I go full-Highlander and ditch the plural? MC has a singular friend. What does he look like? Young male, not too tall and somewhat thin. If you thought that sounds exactly like Mr. MC, guess again. He has his own eye color! Black eyes! Riveting stuff! What are his defining characteristics? Loyal, that's good! Any other traits? Nope. Goals? Fight the MC to win-back the most generic character award.

Villains? Sure the author has villains in spades! Lucky for us readers, the author really got his noggin jogging. He ate breakfast, took a multivitamin, and stretched before exercising. All of this to craft not one, oh no, but TWO whole varieties of interchangeable faceless mook. One type is young, and get ready, really strap yourself in because, THE OTHER IS OLD! I know, I know, I could hardly believe it either.

Finally, the plot. I re-read the first dozen or so chapters and couldn't find it. Really the only plot is the whole "avenge sensei" thing. My friend also likes wuxia so I called him up to ask for his thoughts. My buddy is a Federal Agent in Cali. Super talented guy. He said he had some time off since he had just finished an investigation into a string of bank thefts. He had been in a slump since his buddy died in a surfing accident and with work slow he picked up the series. He showed up drunk with a Ronald Regan mask on and after he sobered up I asked him what he thought. Instead of replying he walked over to the kitchen, grabbed a spoon, and bounced it off my head. Angry I asked. "Why did you throw a spoon at my head!" He replied, "There is no spoon." Reaching enlightenment I immediately raised my cultivation level. At level 2 Mortal Realm I can now use the ancient Google-Fu to dodge all negative Yin based attacks by Chinese authors seeking to implant a heart-demon that will stop me from reading anymore Asian novels. <<less

It's the same cliche ridden POS that we know. Tr*sh orphan cultivator with the personality of a cardboard, awakens a treasure and off we go.

People keep trying to bully him thinking he's still the same tr*sh and predictably he teaches them a lesson after which they run off to find someone more powerful to back them up.

Randomly stumbles across treasures. No doubt he'd be revealed to have super powerful parents in the future though I won't be sticking around.

Did we really need another novel with no plot or anything engaging... more>> about it? Dropped. <<less

I trudged through 100+ chapters of this, thinking that, surely, there must be some redeeming quality to this sh*t for Wuxiaworld to be pushing it.

Spoiler alert: Nope.

In a world full of sh*t characters, our MC is just a random sh*t character with plot armor. There is nothing in the setting, plot or characters (to the extent any of those exist) that I give a f*ck about, nor is the MC distinguished on any moral/personality/ideal/goal level such that I should even care that he ends up with the plot armor item... more>> instead of all of the other sh*t characters.

To the extent this novel provided any amus**ent, it was on the level of how nakedly sh*t this entire setting was, where the primary means of attack is literally just to point at someone and yell, "Hey, that guy over there has something we don't", whereupon frenzied mobs of random cultivators immediately form to try to kill the target and take his stuff. <<less

Typical cultivation world where we have plenty of people thinking there are better than others simply because their cultivation is currently bit higher or they have dad/mom/grandpa/uncle/whatever in some sort of high position. Then there is our MC- typical tr*sh that somehow happens to have cheatlike treasure that for whatever reason activates only "now" when MC was about to die instead of x earlier years of his life.

Now some minor spoilers, we get to know of it in first few chapters so do not fear- MC was taken in some... more>> third rate sect in a really small kingdom/country by one of its elders. Said elder treated MC really well but was schemed against and killed (propably by other elders from same sect). Then begins typical bullying against MC who now have no backing. MC is bent on getting revenge for kind elder hence he gets back to sect even after his precious cheat item activates and his cultivation speed skyrockets.

Problem is there is totaly no reason to do that, he can just go anywhere into the world, hole up somewhere or travel on the road and cultivate much safer than in sect with people who are sure to kill him if they ever notice that he can suddenly get upgrades of cultivation within days (while normaly it takes years- coz remember we are in some sort of lowest of low area with no high level cultivators). Some people might say he is keeping watch over potential mu*derers but you know, he can't do anything to them nor stop them from leaving, difference in power between MC and potential killers is so big that random fart from them can kill him 10 times over. So is logical course of action really going back to sect and risking his life instead of just going MIA and coming back when he gets powerfull enough to tackle whatever this sect may throw at him?

There is plenty of illogical things here, MC saying he needs to keep low profile and hide his fast cultivation speed at all cost forgets about it few chapters later and begins killing people left and right. As someone who was bullied for years and managed to keep up with it he is incapable of withstanding it year or even few more months while sharpening his fangs?

Some of the sect elders are somehow barely stronger than disciples. You would think that a sect with long history should have plenty of powerfull people but no, either current batch of disciples is extraordinary powerfull or they are coming to sect to learn from people barely stronger than they themselves are. Imagine paying for tutor lessons to someone from 3rd grade of primary school when you are in second grade and remember that you must always treat them with utmost respect as your master.

Please do note that all complaints are against novel itself, nothing against translation as it seems to be really good. <<less

OK look. I won't even go into detail about the novel anymore, it is as you guess: Lucky Beta male tries to go up in society.

The thing I want to talk about is who the actual f*ck recommended translating this pile of garbage. If the people recommending this novel read this comment, I want you to know that you're either a troll or a simply a masochist because NO ONE ON EARTH would like this regurgitated vomit.

Well, I have a relative low bar for wuxia, get me the basic non-brainer and I'm happy. This novel clearly can't do even that.

For the people who said that is good to see a MC that doesn't go from tr*sh to genius in 1 chapter is a good sign, that can only apply if the MC isn't a insufferable moron. He always whinny, killing and stealing tons of people and preaching about moral high ground, he keep shitalking his OP tower, spend just a few chapter cultivating (mostly because he... more>> is forced) then cry that he is too weak, all his breakthrough are likewise handed or forced for him, is like trying to teach a kid that doesn't want to learn.

His friends, like his powers, magical artifacts and everything else is handed to him and is just plot reason why they he keep them. Because the author like to put him on a situation that is either extreme difficult or impossible and deus exmachina his way out. Someone more powerful appear, the monster decided to not kill him outright, the power of his magic sword is suddenly powerful enough to hold off hordes of enemy for a time, etc...

World building is as basic as you can get because the author without information so much that like the MC you maybe now the basics, and have to explain on the fly when things get there. For example, do you know that the life span of a cultivator? only if you read the last (110) chapter.

All the plots are so weak, is either he being toyed by a high power and somehow get out or somehow get a treasure that he have neither the power nor he witty to get. The characters are flat and their conversation repetitive that either is plot dump or is meaningless there is no between.

I think the only thing going on that novel is either the hope that the MC has a change of heart and stop being s*upid little shit.

Bonus: Remember how most OP itens on this novel are super mysterious, that are used just once per arc and help the MC cultivate? well this one is almost a 4th party member at this point, he carry the story and the MC on his back because f*ck me if is not just stumbling upon treasures at the very next chapter after the last was found. <<less

The author never explains what the realms of cultivation are or what they do, which doesn't matter because the MC breezes through them with no effort anyway. The reader barely learns anything about the MC's martial arts as well. For some reason, there are disciples as strong as the sect's elders.

Bullies, enemies and treasures show up out of nowhere with barely any setup or foreshadowing. The MC is sent to war in chapter 15, the first chapter the reader learns there's a war, and the reader has no reason to... more>> care because the author only provides minimal information about the MC's surroundings. Even the tr*shiest, most mediocre Chinese webnovels I've read still take some time to let the MC become involved in local politics and develop friendships and alliances so the readers can become invested in the conflict. None of that happens here.

The MC wanders around aimlessly. His initial goal is to avenge his master, but the reader doesn't know anything about his master and has no reason to care about him and the conflict is so petty and easily resolved that there's nothing satisfying about it. The MC eventually decides that he wants to explore the world and become more powerful, which resembles a goal, but by that point, I'd stopped caring. <<less

the translator does a pretty good job on the translation itself but the writing goes from tolerable to bad as the story moves along. bad writing, idiot MC, and a story with copious amounts of plot armor and godly levels of luck, along with huge plotholes... and it's barely been over fifty chapters. I'm dropping because the MC actions make no sense anymore. the extra star is for the translator, otherwise, this would be a 1.

This is a pretty good casual read. If you are new to the genre or just want to read while relaxing it's pretty nice. The plot is incredibly slow and simple but that means you can relax and enjoy it.

The translation quality is excellent and the release rate is super fast. This series does not deserve the high volume of 1-stat reviews from all the people who gave up early because this wasn't better than the stuff they read before.

Well damn, it is surprisingly good. I don't know why but I like this???

The MC is s*upid and whiny like a child, truly detestable. A s*upid MC and great luck full of plot armor, you'd thought it is a really bad story. But you're wrong...

The MC maybe s*upid but the villain and canon fodder is reasonable (somewhat) and realistic. That is the plus one in my opinion. Let be honest, a young master suddenly come and cause trouble to MC without reason every chapter is boring right!? Well this one... more>> different if you reconsider again. In early chapter the MC is bullied so trouble come from the bullies cause a habit. Then next trouble from opposing sect and again because MC always get bullied by them. <<less

So as my first review im going to be brutally honest. I enjoyed this novel and yes there are still some flaws but it does make for good reading and that is enough for me in my opinion.

Now the Pros.

The translation at Wuxiaworld is very well written. Its a Quality work and I commend the Translators for job well done. I think by the premise of the story, it was meant for a very light reading. Its Action scenes are well elaborated and continuity flows very well which can said... more>> to be much more better than some of the novels I know.

The Only cons I can truly comment about is that its Main Character is at times alittle too whiny for my taste. Yes sometimes that factor is used for a comedic relief but the author doesnt execute it very well. The cultivational stages are alittle blurred but then I personally dont mind.

Suffice to say this is a good read, with a mid tier plot with high quality translation. Lets be honest... this novel is way better than some of the official novels posted on certain website. If you find yourself with some free time, try this novel, dont take it too seriously and enjoy. <<less

Hey, I'm loving this book. Don't let a few armchair critics, who've probably never written anything creative themselves, discourage you. Keep up the great work.

It was interesting at first, but around chapter 300 or 400 tower just becomes too op to the point that any threat just gets smashed by it. I mean even a human immortal was just like captured and made into a blood essence machine for Chen Feng or something like that.

Very cliche across the board but overall an enjoyable light read. But if you're looking for something more unique or exciting look elsewhere. This is a decent time filler without characters being too obnoxious to keep reading but it is nothing amazing.
