Ichinose Kyosuke is in his second year of high school. He is taciturn and proficient in both literary and military arts. Although he may seem to be a perfect person at first glance, he is dealing with a circumstance that nobody else can grasp. That is a matter that he doesn’t want anyone to interfere with. Therefore, he is averse to forming deep bonds with others.

With the exception of his childhood friend, Yuu───

On that day, there were dark clouds hanging in the sky. The sky was gray and it seemed as if it would be raining. Kyosuke hastily made his way home.

At night, he received a call from a friend.

“Ichinose! Sonohara is…!”

The call was promptly disconnected, possibly due to radio interference.

──What exactly has happened to Yuu?

Feeling a vague sense of uneasiness, Kyosuke stormed out of the house ────

Within the world, there exist various kinds of people, who have accumulated a wide range of experiences and are advancing towards their future, each choosing their own path.

One’s future is a relic of the past that one has amassed. The present is also shifting into the past, and the past is a relic of the present, which is the future. We, humans, live in the present, choosing our choices.

However, even though we seem to have the freedom to choose, there are times when we are compelled to make choices in the present. Even if one is heading for a bright future, the eventual outcome is never assured. Sometimes the future, which was previously bright, is abruptly struck by darkness.

Nevertheless, we are neither living in the past nor the future, but in the undisputed “present”. Whether one halts or looks back, one must eventually face forward and move on.

This is the story of Kyosuke, the protagonist, and other high school students who live in the invisible time known as the present.

To all fellow readers who wished to understand the risk they will take by reading this, I shall speak of my opinions.

This novel, by all means, a simple slice of life about two boys suddenly experiencing tragedy and suffering. They have to move forward to cope with the pain. Then the two boys slowly gain happiness with the help of those caring people in their life.

Its like those slice of life stories about suffering and tragedies then healing and encouragement we usually read.

... more>> This is a spoiler so be warned.

The in*est that applies here is the androgynous boy's uncle committing vile s*xual acts against the poor boy. Also, it seems they included here crazy jealousy that may result in a crime and some bad parents or something.

If a fellow reader have reached my last sentence, this comment merely tells the fellow readers of my opinions and understanding. <<less

Keep in mind I dropped this around chapter 52, so my review does not include the later chapters.

It's too disjointed. It feels like the scenes were crammed in one by one with no apparent logic or progression for the sole purpose of going through a checklist of cliche dramatic scenarios and tropes, with some character interaction dotted in but not enough to achieve satisfying character progression. Even a plot-lite slice of life has at least some sense of flow and growth, but this novel goes like this: this big thing... more>> happened, jump to a month later where this other big thing happens, jump to this time later where this melodrama happens... etc.

If you do enjoy drama cliches and want to enjoy this, read it as a collection of short stories in the same universe. <<less
