I personally enjoyed most of the novel. Even though I think that other reviewers criticism is valid, since it is a generic reincarnation and time travel story, as a standalone novel I enjoyed it.

Pros:

- MC gets satisfying powerups

- his companions don't get left in the dust

- World building is interesting

- very cool systems (very descriptive, I know)

Cons:

- MC sometimes does nothing even when attacked, and the repercussions are sometimes entirely preventable.

- several locations mentioned early on don't get picked up at all later.
Spoiler

like Vaughn's treasure island, or that prince's tomb from the nesser dynasty he found next to his first city. They don't get mentioned again.

[collapse]

- this is the worst point and my main critique: the last chapter is extremely unsatisfying. I don't know what the author was thinking, but he compressed multiple hundreds chapter worth of content into a single one. I wouldn't have cared if he wrote another 600 chaps of face-slapping, but this is just lazy and bad.

All in all, I still enjoyed most of the novel, even if the ending was ridiculously rushed. I would still recommend to someone who has run out of novels, but not to someone that just started.

I tried to read this. Over 100 chapters in before I gave up.

In fairness, some of it isn't bad- but a lot of it isn't good.

The good:

  • MC is somewhat relatable. Some secondary characters are a bit interesting.
The BAD:

  • MC is a transmigrator. This is absolutely irrelevant to the story in every way.
  • MC is additionally a time traveler... for some random reason. Unexplained 'how the magic happened', and used to justify all sorts of marginally relevant hacks.
  • MC comes from a dystopian future where there is a literal apocalypse, absolutely brought about by the ignorance and arrogance of man. MC doesn't have even a passing thought about trying to change that end.
  • MC is OP in an unreasonable 'let's pretend things are still challenging despite the obvious' way.
  • Author's plotting is incredibly 'on rails'-- so much plot is predictable, forced, or lazily slapped together that you will see the MC 'overlook' simple logical needs (like security to protect his own investment) because the author just knows 'no need to bother with that, I'm doing something else'.
  • Another story that sure from an increasing amount of 'prepared this before' and 'just doing something I never mentioned I could' in critical moments as magical saves.
  • Most of the plotting is cliche and standard. It's not bad, but it's nothing new.
  • The magic system threatens to be interesting, but generally boils down to spamming D&D spell names en masse in battles, all mechanics or strategy rendered irrelevant.
  • Most characters are plot puppets. Many are just face-slapping targets.
  • No women exist. Another reviewer said that after 300 they do- so you can look forward to that...
  • Watching the MC walk around hyper-focused on his own random plan, while simultaneously ignoring the situation around him (because the author knows the plot won't threaten his weakness) is ridiculously irritating to me.
The different:

  • I guess the 'cultivator-like' magic power development system kinda counts. It's not new, but it is atypical- even if more 'jammed in' than 'story relevant'.
Overall, I guess it's ok if you're bored enough- but there's a lot that is better.

This novel is for those who want a shift from your typical transmigration, revenge plots, harem trope, or system-aided, stories.

EME is actually a pretty good work of fiction where you'll be raring to know how exactly he will try to overcome his fate of original demise. Granted that since he is the MC, it would seem that he will just be sailing smoothly along the way; albeit no.

He displays maturity that others misunderstood him as a softie but he was far from that. Rather, this MC focuses on the end... more>> goal rather than rampaging and killing just to easily solve the problem. A rare trait one can see on most fantasy, magical themed xuanhuan novels.

This is a breathe of fresh air from most novels that follow the trend of overbearing MC where one may be affected of weltschmerz as the feeling accumulates.

Spoiler

The downside, though, is how the author just wrapped up and left the ending part of the story. It left so much for wanting. *Sighs* A lot of plot was left for speculation like the ancestor Balakra, the blood connection of Dark Sage, the secret of sealed memory of Pabiete, the secret behind the battle in Starry Sky Battlefield, the reason why Santon Merlin set out, and a list more. The most important point is how the end of Noscent will actually come to be and who is behind it. Was it the King of Undead MC suppressed in Leviatan Plane? The Shelter Tower is just about to be built but author-san left me just when the climax is already at peak.

Even though, every arc, for example, exploring a new plane, usually took more than 50 chapters, I still liked the fantasy part of the novel. I had great expectations regarding the ending, but the whole ending was rushed into the last chapter. The author could've easily written more than 300 chapters to cover up all loop holes and give it a proper ending, but he never did. For example, he never explained about the ancestor's dairy that he got from the starry battlefield. There was a huge secret behind it.... more>> What exactly was the destruction? I haven't seen a story with so many unnecessary descriptions. At some point, this starts to piss you off because all you are reading is a description of irrelevant things that prove no point to the plot.

Raymond's mind was in a total mess, as if it was melting. No problems had arisen when the red coral solution was heated to a high temperature, which was something that Raymond couldn't accept. This was simply like shaming Raymond's knowledge of alchemy. And Okland's alchemy professors had emphasized many times that red coral shouldn't be dissolved into a solution no matter what, let alone having it come into contact with high temperatures.

If he had to choose between this being his own misunderstanding or his professors making such a huge mistake, he would rather believe that everything he had just seen was only a figment of his imagination.

[collapse]

It is just a repetition of what he said in the past two chapters. Happens every single chapter for at least 5 times and it is clear that the author is purposely writing to push the word count higher. Abundant Words does not always mean it will increase the detail and give insight to the readers especially when it is just filler. <<less

For the first 200+-300+ chapters of this, there's a distinct lack of women. Not female characters, just women in general. There's not only an absence of women in positions of power (say for example, an accomplished mage or just an elder of whatever tower), but even mundane jobs like shopkeeper or maid or apprentice alchemist, there's no mention of there being women at all. So when I got to the part where we saw the first woman, basically, in the novel, I was taken aback because that's when I only... more>> realized how absent women were. It does get better after but it did take pretty long, at least for me.

I think three stars for this is a bit too generous but it's still kinda entertaining for me. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table, it's full of tropes, etcetera etcetera. But it does well in being just an entertaining read.

I've seen reviews saying that the MC is a pushover. I beg to disagree. I get why they see him as a pushover because a lot of MCs in this kind of genre just straight up kill or maim anyone disrespectful to them. I've always found that characterization weird. Like using the same kind of hammer of justice or righteous vengeance, with the same weight and force and all, to smash down on any perceived offense, with no regard to determining what's relatively worse. I personally feel like the MC's attitude towards the cannon fodder disrespecting him to plotting against him is a happy medium for me. But I do understand the complaint of others but I think it's still a matter of personal taste.

One more thing that really takes me out is how some ancient beings have names like Barton or Constance. Huh... They spoke or used magic runes that's very arcane and complicated but their names are such basic b*tch of the West names. Huh... Just a tiny nitpick.

TLDR: It's been done before but there's still some entertaining things inside if you come knowing you're not up for something top-grade. Also, the translations are actually very nice.

Edit: Forgot to note how I actually thought this was going to be yaoi / shounen ai once I realized there's no women. Disappointed tbh. <<less

The novel is just composed of a frowning over-powered guy and a bunch of idiots coming to be slapped. It's absurd. Everyone knows he is superpowered but doesn't tell others. They only think "Oh no! What are you doing" in their minds while others are "courting death". Nothing actually happens. It keeps going on and on and on. The MC is an idiot who has no social awareness and gets into problems for no reasons at all. Villains are always conveniently at same level as MC. MC's family is underestimated... more>> for no reason. MC's followers are underestimated for no reasons also. It's just absurd.

The novel also have long monologues about fictional characters who are always poor and untalented, came across something awesome, and are now very talented. MC's future knowledge is ad-hoc and very weird. He somehow knows secrets of races when those races have been long extinct.

Overall, it's a very low quality novel. <<less

Yes, I finished it. And I just wrote this review for this reason 'cause I'm so frustrated rn. How did it end up like that?

The end was so rushed. No, I feel like the author feels that he/she just don't feel writing it anymore and just come up with that ending. Yk, I'm still thinking that the title of chapter refers to the end of war that just happened. There's still some problems that haven't answered or solved.

Spoiler

One best example is Pabietes memories that was been sealed by Dark Sage. Lin Yun still haven't know what's being sealed inside of Pabietes memories aside that it's about the destruction. There's also about Riena's father that Merlin promise to resurrect when he became a Heaven Rank. The Frost Dragon followed him for that sole purpose. In addition, there's also the thing about fully comprehending the 100k+ Truth Runes. He haven't finished that as well. Lastly, how about conquering other Planes? What happened about gathering other rare and previous materials from other Plane? I know he have a magic battleship already but he said it can't compared to the Peak of Magic Era's magic battleship, hence, it can't still conquer those planes that have the materials needed for the completion of the Red Push smth, I forgot the name. In just a sentence, the author finished it. Furthermore, I'm still waiting for him to go to the Void to explore and find the truth about the destruction or about the diary which Salton Merlin wrote. Although the author quite answered it by writing that there's also another Lin Yun from the Doomsday Era who didn't die and the one who's been eyeing or monitoring them from the void. Anyway, it really lacks explanation as for how that it happened.

[collapse]

To sum it all, the ending is so unsatisfactory. Actually, the book wasn't that great but I quite like it despite it it's flaws that's why I even finished it. I let all those flaws and read it with opened mind yet I got this ending. ☠️ I know that most books of this genre end up in an open ending or an ending that doesn't feel like an ending at all. Their ending always like an end to the current journey and will open to another one.

Sigh* That's all! Ik, it's not a review at all. Lol. Some reviews already said was needs to be said so, yk. Indeed, the reviews are almost true. Especially those who read half of the book.

I re-read this a few times when I run out of good/better novels to read.

BUTTT....

Every time I drop this at few hundreds chapters read, after I remember why I drop it in the first place.

... more>> The "Why?"..

Hmm.. First of all the "whatchamalit" formulas (this guy formula, that guy, oh another genius whatever guy formula that can solve this whatchamalit puzzling stuff in backwater era of magic s*upidly wasting all the good resource they got and not caring whatsoever that they use it like garbage).

Really, too many random-peeps formula that don't matter if they are not mentioned and used by MC to show off.

Also "Its level 38", "The creature is level 37 being".. wth? no explanation about tier/level of the creatures or humans and author expect the reader to just "WING" it? At least put a proper explanation before this "level" stuff appear, system or whatever, if not then don't just randomly add something that "supposedly" makes something sound strong or whatever without proper info dump chapter.

Rinse repeat idiotic-moronic-brainded 2nd generation of supposedly "GENIUS" wizard/mage, that acts s*upid like they born with s*upidity and don't know about "finding information". Really, overused templates (does the author don't have another idiot mobs template?).

Idk why this novel have very high rating beside in novelupdates. <<less

I don't know why so many people give it bad review, I dropped it after 12xx and just finally got hint of supposed to be 'main plot?' I'm not even sure

Spoiler

I'm talking about something that Merlin see in his ancestral land, the world beyond the door? As far as I remember

[collapse]

Here my opinion for someone who complained abot why MC in world where become apocalyptic (first reincarnated) just reading book?
    • First, in desolate place where even human extinct also place where finding food to fill your stomach really hard. Are you even willing to survive in that kind of world till end? Some people might be choosing to su*cide instead, die earlier.
    • Second, being alone is also kind of suffering. MC here just want to see how the world end with his own eye (i think), he chooses to die with the world itself. So while waiting for his time to come' fortunately there magic tower that record anything happens in the past. Why? It's because knowledge is power and you cannot become powerful without proper knowledge, especially in the field of magic. They record it because that what Mage/Wizard do, they do that for sake of future generations. There always wrong definition of Mage/Wizard, they're not group people who seeks power but they're group of people who seeks knowledge they pursuing knowledge and only believes in knowledge, they're people who walking on path to uncover secret of the world.
    • Thirds, the main point of number 2 is; for entertaining MC, wasting his time while waiting for his deaths, so he doesn't go crazy for suffering mentality.
But overall I really can't give it 5/5 though, I liked the concept of 'plane' it's seems original? (Even though maybe someone want to just call it as 'realms' from martial art genre, it's actually different. I think Realm is dimensions that overlapped main world, and relams is someone that being created with space abilities. Here, Plane is piece of land/world that wandering around in the void, so it can be said as another world not another dimension. Also you can only enter Realms trough special passage and to create another passage one need to permission of Realm master/master of the Realm. In here plane is so different, all you need is coordinate of the plane itself and then you just need to build passage everywhere you want or directly teleported (if have enough power to do so))

*CMIIW it's has been long since I read it, so I'm just remembering things or two.

FYI im dropping it because I'm too busy at that time

I agree entirely with Elheim's review and add the following points:

    • The main character was first transmigrated from our modern world to the magic world, he only spent 20 years there until that world died of mana exhaustion, and then was transmigrated again to ~30000 years in the past. He somehow managed to not only gain language knowledge, fighting experience and cultivation to survive, but also spent time to collect a massive amount of historical knowledge useless for survival that is coming in handy in the past, almost like he knew that he would end up there.
    • In my opinion there have been several situations where it didn't make sense for the enemy to back down from a fight or negotiation.
    • The main character makes seemingly random assumptions that end up being correct.
    • There have been no female characters introduced so far, none. There are no major nor minor female characters. There have been two offhand mentions of people having daughters, and I think a mention of maids, otherwise I would have assumed that the humans in this world reproduce using Mitosis (cell division). This seems passively sexist, how have there not been any female mages, alchemists, shop clerks, etc.?
I submit my entry at c155.

I like it. ❤️ Its generic. MC is OP, too smart, cunning, cold-blooded and brave. (Though you may also call it, foolish)

He always gets into trouble, not because he is s*upid but because those little villains and big villains were greedy and s*upid.

Face slapping here and there. When one villain got beaten or killed, another will appear which is much stronger than the first.

... more>> However, I still like it, even if its average haha. I enjoy it so far. Its a fun ride.

Few females appeared but there's no romance. The MC in the end, becomes the most powerful mage, he reached beyond heaven ranks. His last enemy is his doomsday self.

The only part that sadden me is that it ended abruptly. The author finished it immediately in just one chapter.

But oh well, consider how low the rating is. I'm already grateful that he finish it😊

Thank You! The whole journey is enjoyable❤️ <<less

The novel is extremely frustrating!

MC goes to get some super-uber-rare-and-powerful thing, hyping the reader into having high expectations for it - and all of that only to get ridiculously miniscule upgrade from it. Later on it also turns out that the upgrade also has a significant drawback that will hinder MC's progress, making it much harder for him to progress in the future.

And it repeats this trope again, again and again!

Besides the unstoppable flood of arrogant characters that are like c*ckroaches, the most baffling thing to me that I couldn't help but point out every 30 chapters is the complete lack of female characters. This is the most unexpected decision I've ever seen regarding the development of a novel and if it isn't meant to be some kind of sick joke I have no idea what it's meant to convey...

Dropped as I am writing this.

This could be a good novel but the only thing that advances the Plot are misunderstandings. Dude shows up before the MC, happily digging a pit for themselves, MC frowns, half a chapter of mindtalking to themselves by the sidecharacters how fu awesome the MC is, half a chapter of MC being awesome, half a chapter of dude complaining about how he could have dug that pit in the beginning.

Sorry for bad grammar :)

In my opinion this only a so-so novel that I read cause no other novel to read.

A novel that if summary from begining up until now (c157) :

... more>> -A cunning, Ruthless, OP MC

-A faceslapping novel

The amount of faceslapping up until c157, simply many... split into 2 category (1 for someone that will end up become MC worshipers, another 1 beaten into pulp) and repetitive.

-Vague World Building (for me).

-repetitive actions (MC will fight being above him in term of power, he will cornered, found solution, end)

-repetitive Luck encounter (MC will meet some setbacks (be it in combat or experiment) then he will meet/see/found something/someone, then thats it, solution found.

-no worthy enemy (All of them are a brainless fool)

-A bit of comedy

-No romance (up until c157 not even one FEMALE chara introduced (not even mob)

So if u ok with repetitive faceslapping, Mighty Luck, etc then read this, cause I too will still read this till end or untill I drop it.

Dont mind too much about the ratings or reviews, everyone have different likes. <<less

It's not a bad novel if you're not looking into it much. It's a bit cliche considering the generic face slapping and such, but it's a nice breath of fresh air compared to other novels of the same genre. The reason for that is because throughout what I've read up until now there has yet to be a SINGLE female character. All the characters are male which also nicely avoids those annoying 2d females that look down on the MC (and later regrets it) and, any possible love interest and... more>> such. This is just a story dedicated to the MC and his path on becoming the best mage. <<less

A rather dumb story. It's laughable how the protagonist knows of the history of 30, 000 years by heart.

Everyone is an idiot that doesn't take a second to think about the consequences of their actions. And the protagonist annoyingly calm every single time he's underestimated and insulted.

What killed the story for me, though, is the focus on planar invasions. Where the protagonist (among others) invade other planes, massacre their native inhabitants in order to harvest their resources. Frankly, it's sickening. Especially, since no one shows any moral qualms about it.... more>> Like it's perfectly natural to commit genocide. Reminds of anyone of as late? <<less

I wanted to like this novel so badly and I did in the beginning, he came back to when magic was abundant and he was messing everyone up becoming super op. THEN the flaming emperor world arc hit and let me tell you, drop it ASAP, this is the most drawn out, boring, wordy, glazing, confusing arc I have ever read. A whole 700 chapters in some random plane with half of those chapters being meaningless fighting. It's your average OP MC magician novel. MC is from future and knows everything from the start, so there is no sense of growing up or discovery or whatever.

Novel follows a random event plot. MC got strong early on so his enemies have to be strong too. So here's a giant monster, here's another, and another. This and that, all waiting for MC to wander along. It's too over the top and all over the place.

None of the characters talk to each other. Not even brothers from the same family.... more>> Not even teachers to their own disciples. Instead everyone is monologueing in their heads. 'How could you insult the MC? Are you mad? Don't you know how strong he is?' is a theme that is repeated all the time ad nauseam. It was fun at first but it just keeps going... long after MC has shown his powers time and time again.

At some point I lost the motivation to keep reading. <<less
