Bravo author, you've done a great job at portraying your characters.

My Wife Is a Beautiful CEO done right. With more flare and not a ret*rded MC, don't get me wrong I love MWBC but this novel takes the cake for the raw emotion even with MTL.

The story is a one of those CEO stories where the MC has a hidden strong past, and the CEO Female Lead is as cold as ice. BUT, the MC has flair, he might not look like he care about anything but without a doubt... more>> he loves his friends.

The CONCEPT of Family is prevalent here. The MC - Liu Yanbo, desires a peaceful life, with a safe surrounding and loving wife and family. He is strong, very strong. But he is also weak, he's been insecure with his past, scared, sad and devastated for anything relating to his past. I can see why women would fall in love with him, I did, I love his endearing character. His words relating family, a home you can come back to that put you back in reality.

The other characters are fantastically well made, besides the minor antagonists and a few other characters. I have no words to describe the friendship that Liu Yanbo made through his new married life.

Yin Hanruo is a lovable wife, that initially had a few bad qualms about Liu Yanbo. Ofc who wouldn't, someone who doesn't express much emotions and always messed with her. But after knowing Yanbo for some times her character changed, she develop the responsibility of the role of Wife, especially the latest few arcs where Yanbo is genuinely in mental danger with the possibility of his life and the people around him gone.

I have no qualms about the story, fantastic backstories, every little tid bit details. I just... really like Yanbo's backstory, it affects my emotions.

Overall, I rate this highly! I recommend checking it out. Be wary of Harem though, but I don't think that will happen. Hey, a very reliable and decent dude/girl appeared in your life, who wouldn't fall in love. I fell in love with him, much else them. <<less

I've read up to 140 chapters of the raw. Overall great story. The description of emotions is surprisingly well done. Flashbacks are quite common. Character are well made.

I have only 2 problems which are opinions.

1st one is that I don't see any of the women who appear to of taken a romantic interest in MC to be likeable. They are decent..

2nd Is the nationalism. From out of bu*t f*ck nowhere MC talks to a Chinese villain who is employing a Japanese killer and says something about how he's traitor. Then... more>> the villain mentally acknowledges with shame. Like what? MC later quotes "Do I need a reason to kill a Japanese" it's not exact quote as it used a different which I've seen being used to insult a Japanese in other novels.

I'm still reading and will write another review once I get to 200 chapters <<less

MC also has a brain unlike the one in My Wife is a Beautiful CEO

Edit: MC has a brain at the start of the novel but in the later chapters he becomes dumb, letting people make use of his weakness

Edit2:Also FL made a promise saying she wont interfere in mc's private life... well she does

I'm loving this novel so far. The author has done such a good job of developing the characters and their background. Especially the ML. Slowly we get to know him, the real him, more and more. I'm so curious to know what happened to him in his childhood. And the side characters too have their own unique personalities and beliefs on life, which makes the story really fun to read.

Give it a try, I recommend it. :)

4 Stars because, some aspect of the plot was annoying me. I read the raw chapters through google translate because the story is so beautiful and interesting. There are a lot of depth about the characters and how the relationship between the ML and the MC develop.

The part that was annoying me:

The ML is so charming that he gets entangled with a lot of the female side characters. But gradually, the trust and understanding between ML & MC deepens. There are definitely cute, funny, sweet and very touching moments on how the two of them go on the journey of defining what a home is, and it is something that belongs to the two of them together as husband and wife.

The story is kinda interesting and very exciting. In addition, I really like the characters especially the male lead who is quite ordinary at first but extraordinary within.

I'm quite disappointed with this.

MC is quite decent at the start> endures everything but friends and family are his reverse scale to become ruthless > waiting to see how it develops is interesting

But it has too many flaws

... more>> 1. As the story progresses MC becomes a complete yes man for the FMC, it's played for the laughs but it kinda contradicts with the tone of the story.

2. MC doesn't drive the story, it doesn't feel like a story of MC over coming his past and gaining happiness

3. Harem is a bait, all the elements are there but the way the story is going other heroines are basically used for filler and pad the story. Either stick to romance or a love triangle if you don't want to commit to a harem, this is like smelling good food but not being able to eat.

4. Some chapters later really feel a bit bland and incomplete. Some nationalism is there but it's just 1or2 chapters and can be ignored <<less

My God, this story is just painful to read.

It's not necessarily bad as a novel in technical sense, but it's horrible on emotional level. Reading it makes me cringe, and the farther I get, the worse it becomes.

Basically, it's the old [beautiful CEO x seemingly loser but secretly great dude] pattern. I think someone said the CEO would be better later, but so far she's a haughty, arrogant, unpleasant woman with nothing but beauty to her (thinking about it, was she even described as to how she looks so far?... more>> I can't remember). As for the dude...

Ugh. It makes me want to puke. The protagonist is pathetic, and he's basically designed to be as pitiful as possible. It's as if the author is playing the victim card. The protagonist is pitiful, and so everyone must pity him, and life is obligated to (eventually) go his way and reward him for all his pain.

... Except it doesn't work this way in life. I also went through some very unpleasant times (not as bad as the protagonist of course, but it's fiction anyway), but I've understood by now that you have to get whatever it is you want yourself. Neither life nor God is going to "make up" for your pain. Therefore, this sort of protagonist whose hobby is to feel miserable is a personal affront to me, in a way.

The events are cringe and basically designed to further what I wrote in the paragraph above the previous paragraph as the main plotline. Bleh.

...I feel like it's author's self-insert. He went through some "painful" things in his life, thinks he's a victim in life, and now wants to get back through wish fulfillment in a novel. Pitiful guy. So pitiful I even prayed for him to God after reading this novel's beginning.

I mean, if you are like the author or protagonist, then this story could be for you. However, just about everyone else (except those who are quite indifferent and detached emotionally) will find this novel painful to read because when you read a book, you want to connect with the characters, or at least the protagonist. You have to, or there's no way you can immerse yourself in the story (at least not properly).

But this?

You immerse yourself with the story, connect with the protagonist, and then feel miserable together with him. f*ck off! I want to read something to relax, not to feel miserable. This is ludicrous.

(On a side note, this could be MTL because the translator is making some low-level mistakes - at least I saw two or three so far) <<less

A completely spoiled FM and a pushover of a MC, what is there to like?

The marriage reason is just s*upid as is the resolution, and don't even get me started in how utterly spineless the MC is in most situation, I mean, he is not that bad sometimes, but as soon as there is a woman in the scene, his spine becomes a wet noodle

A very nice upgrade on the: "My Wife is a Beautiful CEO." The MC is much more stoic and collected. There is almost no random comedy and definitely flushes out the characters a lot. He still has his secrets, but doesn't seem to be as much of a fantasy as the previous work. The storyline is about a previous ... more>>

Driver of the beautiful CEO - 5/5

An underappreciated gem that was sadly dropped not even midway (?)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This novel will feel familiar to anyone who's read urban novels, with tropes that evoke a power fantasy vibe that makes it fun to read. Except the author is actually excellent at writing emotions and characters. The main character is not just an offensive self-insert, but a man who has real struggles despite being the omnipotent MC. Liu Yunbo though, is also a man worthy of respect! Not for any superficial quality, but... more>> for his character - something very rare in chinese novels! The way he endures like stone that's been weathered flat, the way he keeps moving forward despite the sh*t that life throws a him. The author isn't afraid to let him suffer a loss, and he is actually a faithful man! This poor MC lives like dust, but you don't pity him, but want to see him succeed! He's the type of foolishly good man that
Spoiler

would rather lie to his wife that her ex-boyfriend is a good man, because the truth that he schemed against him would be hurtful to her.

[collapse]

The characters - from the love interests to the family members to the young masters, they all feel well rounded and dangerously close to realistic. When a novel dares have a love rival that isn't a clown villain but respectable guy, or when the MC is actually restrained by modern day morals. It makes the drama and relationships feel so much more authentic, and more emotive. Truly a rarity!

The romance in this novel is so bittersweet. Yunbo is easy to root for but the women don't behave like pokemon waiting for the pokeball. The author is not afraid to show the fickleness of human relationships, and the hurt it can cause. On the other hand, every success and accomplishment of this MC is well earned. Nothing he has was simply handed to him! There are no harem kings or childish fantasies in this novel!

Spoiler

The process of the FML falling in love with the MC, and wanting to support him and be there for him was written so well and you could feel the emotions involved. But even after this point the relationship still feels authentic, with disputes and ups and downs. These small details separate this author from the pack.

[collapse]

The plot - is fairly generic, and maybe even familiar to veteran readers. But it's also much more grounded compared to other "OP MC in a modern city" type novels.

The only real negative - some nationalism that was so extreme it frightened me when I read some of it.

Overall this is still my favorite 1/3'rd of a webnovel I've read so far. It's such a shame it was randomly dropped, I went so far to even read all the mtl of a dropped novel, that's how good it is. It has such a generic name that it gets lost in the crowd. But it's actually very different than the novels it's surrounded by, and much better too. <<less

The previous reviews for this story hails it as "MWBC done right" or at least something of an improvement of MWBC. So, I went into this story with high expectations. But if you liked MWBC, be warned that although the premise is similar, the execution of the idea differs very much.

I would call that difference to be a bad one. Okay, I'll be real. I read it, and I was bored. The first few chapters was bland. The dynamic between the two main leads isn't all that interesting. The author... more>> deliberately made the ML be too depressed/lonely/melancholic to care enough about anything, even about holding a conversation. At any sign of conflict or friction between him and the FL, he goes all cool and smiles like nothing matters. The FL then shuts up and thinks, "what's up with him?".

This could be a good thing in theory, but it just made reading through their interactions a chore. If the characters don't talk, then they don't interact. If they don't interact, you won't get to know them. The rest of the main leads' interactions is largely described through the FL's thoughts of guessing what ML's thinking, and the ML being all depressed and sad.

I was also unsure of what the FL's deal was. Is she a prissy, haughty CEO? A cool-knowledgeable intellectual? A little of both? Kind of? Bland? Also, why does she like the ML? Because he doesn't fawn over her and he's mysterious? Is that a good enough reason? Probably.

Also, the removal of the FL's engagement to the scum cannon fodder in the first few chapters just seemed to remove the conflict. Then they continue the charade based on ambiguous feelings of attraction.

Coming out of MWBC, the ML in that story had several flaws. But he had character. The ML in this one doesn't reveal enough of his character to make you want to read more. Maybe if I gave it more of a chance and read further in, I'd find it better. But I'm not optimistic and reading anymore sounds like a waste of time.

Biased and troubled review. Would not strongly recommend. <<less
