I don't understand why the ratings are so low for this. It's rare to find good horror stories in general. Terror Infinity started out pretty good, but loss all sense of terror after a few volumes and became some ridiculous action story.

5 stars if you enjoy horror, otherwise 4 stars. Ignore the ridiculous number of 1 star votes. I don't think these people even read more than one chapter.

A biased and disorganized review, with a bit of spoiler.

A short synopsis of the novel (since the description always seems to be vague as hell) :

Dreadful Radio Game is an interesting novel that revolves around the concept of a survival game ("A powerful entity forces the main characters to fight for their lives in an organized competition") with some mystery and supernatural elements mixed in. Our MC Su Bai is somewhat like Dexter Morgan from Dexter, in the sense that he's a psychopath that constantly has the urge to kill people; instead of randomly killing people, he focuses his urges on to people that have committed some sort of a crime (regardless of whether or not their crimes are worthy of the death penalty). After killing one of his targets one day, he gets drawn into a survival game known as the Dreadful Radio Game (the real world is like a hub, and he gets drawn into instances in order to complete certain tasks to earn points and power up). The instances, seem to be based on mysterious/supernatural events/crimes that occur in the MC's hub world. The novel sets up some sort of an unsolved mystery/crime (that happened in the past, whether it be distant or recent), and sends the participant of the game in to complete certain objectives. The participants in the game pretty all seem to be out of the norm, and wouldn't be someone modern society would consider as being "normal" (our MC is a psychopathic killer, and there's this guy around chapter 50 that claims to be a teacher and gets aroused by f*cking other people's wives).
What I really like about this novel is that, it manages to convey a certain feeling of dread and chilliness (as opposed to many novels with the Horror genre) ; it could be due to the fact that the MC is still relatively weak at the moment, but I really do hope it maintains this atmosphere.

The main complaint I have so far about the novel is the translation/writing style (or maybe a combination of both). There's just something about the english translation that makes it a bit awkward to read (it just doesn't feel smooth).

So many users rated 5 stars whereas I have rated it 2 stars. It kind of looks out of order amongst this crowd but I do not regret my decision. May be I am being too harsh on this novel as I have only read upto c191 but I think I should give it a fair judgement. The reason for my low rating is mainly because of the world - building of the novel. Every fantasy world needs some logic no matter what kind of templates an author wants to... more>> set and such reasoning has been used by most of the popular novelists for their works. Honestly even in those clichéd Xuanhuan novels, it's clear that those authors have set up step-by-step rules. In this novel, although everything seems fine at first but as the gradual passing of chapters, things become very messy. In fact author has tried his best to bring out more "Psychological" aspects by introducing some horrendous, out of order concepts but if one thinks carefully, these scenarios which are created to give more impact are hiding the shortcomings of the novel. Now, reaching at c191, I have already felt my hunger for this novel saturated and do not have any wish to continue anymore. The cause behind is the main component of this entire novel which is the "mighty" Dreadful Radio. Here, Dreadful Radio is the most mysterious and "fair" (sarcasm) lord of enigmas in the story where characters are like disposable tr*shes. Everything and everyone has multiple nature and only fools would take the face value as granted. This is one of the main concept I think that ruined the novel. This type of mentality exists amongst all the participants which I can't help but find ridiculous. Super hard tasks yet no one to trust. The clues are so little in fact in the latest case, we readers, can absolutely agree that the clues were actually appeared to the MC due to the plot armour. It's like those infinity genre novels but written by an author who just wants to kill characters. I do admit that author has done a good job in writing a progressive story but he has forgotten that this can not veil what he has done with the novel. If one takes a filter and separates all the elements of the novel like character, friendship, thriller etc from mc's personality then one would find nothing but mc's s*upid madness and absurd luck. MC started as a serial killer, then a blood - sucking vampire then a short-term racist tool and then headed towards a human flesh-eating character. I am okay with a psychopath protagonist but I kind of wanted someone whose personality is close to "Hannibal Lecter", not a moronic character. By "Hannibal Lecter" I mean someone who is highly-intelligent and has sufficient control over emotions but this MC should be called a petty child. He gets agitated and easily makes mistakes but always seems to get away with his recklesness. Logically he should be dead long ago but author doesn't want to end the story early. Like any other chinese novels, this one has a lot of unnecessary deaths (3 to 5 survivors out of 20 participants per story) which clashes with the world logic yet he never corrected himself. What does this absurd amount of death suppose to symbolize? I know its a fantasy but I can't seem to get over it. Another thing is the difficulty in mc's tasks is out of control. Whenever he gets summoned by the radio, some sort of "out of calculation" mishap will happen. Level of difficulty should rise steadily yet he seemed to be playing in Hell mode from the beginning. Further situations like dragging mc's friends in the horror plot kind of made it harder for me to read ahead. I honestly wanted them to be safe as they are much saner that the MC but what can I say? The complex situations surrounding MC are so ridiculous that one can't help but question why author is doing that. It would have been a lot better if the author can take things easy but he chose the most complicated way one can only imagine.

I wanted to write more but I think that's enough considering I haven't crossed chapter 200. <<less

A really nice novel with mu*der and mystery, along with elements of the supernatural. The MC is kinda a psycho though (scratch that, he IS), and he's aware of it. Since he's used to killing, that helps him with what's happening.

Anyways, I really like the concept.

Spoiler

The Dreadful Radio is basically like forcing the people involved into a horror story.

And I like how it hints at something greater. There's some serious stuff going on here, and as for now, we're only getting glimpses, but it looks promising!

This novel is really underrated.

Up until now (c154), I find this novel really interesting. World building is good and so character building.

MC is not some typical MCs, but a psychopath who enjoyed killing people. At the start, he's a person who struggles surviving the game while competing with other audience for benifits. But after c130+, his traits as a psycho who does what he wants starts appearing, but not in a bad way.

... more>> MC is a calm and calculating person, and somewhat similar to leylin.

Side characters are also interesting, they're not some cardboard cut-out. They acts like a person.

Side characters are not disposed, they appears at some points.

What I really love about this novel is the MC. <<less

If you enjoy horror webnovel like Apartment from hell, Dreadful radio game might intrigue you too. This also reminded me of that as the MC must persevere through a number of great predicament for his survival's sake over these supernatural events, except that was all about an apartment and this is all about the mysterious radio segment, also the MC in here is a psychotic person who's addicted to mu*der, so I think he will put a fight in every scenario he needed to. There's 10 chapters currently, I'll see... more>> how the story shall progress for now. <<less

A novel that is best read by skimming through it. The novel itself isn't that good, and the translation doesn't help much either.

The MC isn't particularly special in any way except for his urge to kill. He isn't that smart, and neither does he care about much. He reads like a doll that is pushed around purely for the purpose of plot. He is calm and collected in normal situations and suddenly flips to caring about certain people when the plot requires it. It's almost as if he has a... more>> switch in him that activates his emotions when the author wants it to.

The games themselves aren't that complex, no actual thinking is required to complete them. If I had to compare them to an actual game it'd be a 2D platformer. There's only one way to go.

The characters around him can't redeem the story either. They're only there as a placeholder for what they represent, best friend, family, enemy, etc. Very flat.

All around the story is very meh. It doesn't draw you in with intense plot or epic world building, it doesn't feel like the characters are real and the translation itself isn't especially good. It's sort of like water. It's meh. <<less

  1. Trying to enjoy this... The novel seems really interesting and has a gantz feel to it, but there is a problem that I just get past, that's making it so hard not to drop at this point.
  2. The MC is portrayed as smart but Is definitely not. He is a psycho mu*derer but has 4 people who knows of his mu*ders and just doesn't care. So obviously doesn't care about being caught.
  3. He is involved in a death game type scenario and know literally no rules. NONE. Has a person who saves him who obviously know the don rules and proceeds to ask no questions and continues on like a blind idiot. It's like wtf. There's not even an explanation as to why he ask no questions. It really zapped all of my enthusiasm for this novel.

The world building of the novel is severely lacking. Like even in a fantasy world there are some grounded rules but this doesn't even establish the basic rules.

Also our protagonist isn't a smart cookie at all. He's just made to look smart by dealing with the scenarios using plot armor. In the first 10 chapters I genuinely thought that this was an interesting protagonist but I'm disappointed.

The story had so much potential but it's not used at all. sigh

Long story short don't waste your time reading this.

This is a distinctive series about a serial mu*derer getting pulled into a the Dreadful Radio Game and experiencing other story worlds while competing against all sorts of other killers and mu*derers. All of these savage and violent people get thrown into the same story world and act according to their desires and the tasks given to them. Naturally, it's mass pandemonium with backstabbing as a daily event while the souls of these people become even more corrupted and twisted than before. The action, brutality, and plot twists are done... more>> well with comedy slipped in at the appropriate points. Although this series is dark and gruesome, it has had me laughing so hard that I had trouble finishing the chapter at a few points.

The characters are all distinctive with their own backgrounds, abilities, and motivations. However, anyone who survives these games has serious antisocial tendencies, which is part of the plot. Many characters may start out having some trust in certain individuals, but even this gets broken, warping each of these already distrustful characters into completely blackened individuals who only fight for their own desires. They know they can die at any time. Some choose to kill their friends before they are killed by their friends while others do their best to take care of their families before they die. Each character makes his or her own individual choices, which makes the plot line exciting and unpredictable.

The MC keeps claiming to be a psychopath to the point where it gets a little annoying, but he doesn't fully meet all of the personality traits for the condition and does selectively care about some people, which makes him much more endearing to me. He reminds me of the game Yandere Game Simulator because he can act perfectly sane and calculating for awhile and then explode with madness. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he usually doesn't make dumb mistakes. Rarely, he does do some dumb things that make me facepalm, but they usually have entertaining outcomes.

The setting is intriguing and holds many mysteries, which the MC is currently digging into.

One thing to watch out for is RACISM. It's not nearly as bad as in some other Chinese web novels, but it peaks appears briefly for an arc every 100 chapters or so. Western people all have blond hair and blue eyes and really want to kill easterners (what?) while most black people are lazy, unambitious, and licentious. This comment about black people is mentioned more than once. This is kind of odd because the black men who have appeared in this series have noteworthy roles and really leave an impression. They are hard-working and have either have success in the Dreadful Radio Game or else fight against the system, which makes the comments about black people feel really out of place. The generalizations about black people say one thing, and the black characters demonstrate the opposite. Idk what this inconsistency is about. <<less

Awesome story with an incredible word building and a horror theme that manages to make you feel at least a shiver while reading it... at least this is what I believe the author intended to create when he started writing his story. Why do I say I just believe it is so? Because the translation is f*cking butchered. This f*cking ret*rded company, Qidian, doesn't have quality control and just ejects new chapters at a fast speed not caring if the western readers can understand anything. At first I somehow went... more>> past these problems, yet after the second even the translation feels even worse. If they don't hire an editor for this story then I will leave it in my dropped folder forever. It is unreadable as long as you understand English better than a preschool kid. The story with its potential still slightly unrevealed gets 4 stars, while the translation gets 0.5, as it barely holds together. <<less

I have read to the most recent chapter and the only problem for me is that the updates are very... very slow.

The MC is very likable with his twisted yet understandable behaviour cuz he is a pyschopath. He can be cold and calculative showing character development! Like can you believe a chinese translation with character development that is actually good.

The world building is the interesting and unique. Basically the whole story is a 'hidden gem'. The MC joins a radio game where the game gives you a mission to be... more>> completed. Each game has a mysterious and interesting plot development, that keeps you hooked. Also I love there are many questions on how the MC completed the mission and then it is explained how/why he did it. It kept me hooked! <<less

A Chinese horror story with its own personality. This novel is quite unique. The entire world building, the role of the radio, and the twisted world that it encompasses leaves a shuddering impression of impressive mystery. There is no normalcy in this world, only legitimate fears, around every corner, under the bed, and in the slight crack in the wall. Everything poses a threat. In this world arrives, a relatively powerless, yet mentally suitable protagonist. With his mindset, this world seems to be almost designed for him. What do I... more>> mean by his mindset? Let's Just say that our lovely protagonist titters on the brink of becoming a serial killer. Wait, he already is one!

Why rate three stars? Too early to Judge, but if this marvel continues, it's definitely five stars. <<less

This sh*t is not mysterious at all. It's just forcefully written in a confusing way trying to make it mystifying. Author decided to narrate the scenario in out of order like a ret*rd and decided to omit everything.

Readers was like: Oh this is so mysterious. I must read next chapter for the explanations.

Next chapters: *never explained anything*

... more>> Action scenes and descriptions are goddamn awful, things happening one after another I don't even know where the f*ck is the MC standing or what the other characters is doing.

I had much expectation for this novel, what an utter disappointment. <<less

It's OK somehow, but I got a feeling that there some lacking. Maybe for being useless Psychopath? The system game? Horror story? Uncompleted detailed? Character growth? Or the author him or her self that hidden the lacking part? The translator? Don't know. Just that I really feel like there something that to be there but somehow did not include.

this novel is about a psychopathic serial killer who ends up getting dragged into instances/cases by a entity called dreadful radio game. like any other survival/death game or unlimited flow novel there is a shop where you can spend points and buy skills, abilities, or tools to help you in the next case.

i gave this novel a 3/5 because I feel like this novel had a lot of potential but the author kinda wasted it.. the novel isn't bad tho.

cons:

Spoiler

- the writing is a bit awkward and not that descriptive.

- the MC is a so-called "psychopath" the only thing that makes him somewhat psychopathic is that he was a serial killer before he became an experiencer (you need 3 to become an audience) the author also tries to pull the psychopath card once in a while to move the plot forward and makes the MC do something random. ?

- the world building in this novel is really slow.. and the rules of dreadful radio game aren't that clear in the beginning.

- from where i've read the MC really doesn't use the shop at all

- I was expecting some side/supporting characters to stay once in a while but... nope. don't expect anyone he befriends in the beginning to remain friends. they all betray him/they betray each other at some point. it's annoying because I get that in dreadful radio game people will do whatever that'll benefit them the most but it feels like every character you meet is the same.

- the horror aspect disappeared when he exchanged for the broken vampire blood.

The only reason this has a low rating is because of the qidian hate. The novel is actually pretty great upto where I have read. No recycled crap. No OP MC. The novel is genuinely scary. I recommend you try it even if you are not into horror genre.

Story in itself is perfect, great character building, kinda reminds me, and is a better version of Terror Infinity?... Nah, thats just my subjective bias, never liked Terror Infinity. MC that actually feels like a "human", not a robot programed to fit the story. No major plot holes. Though we don't have an actual goal yet, just surviving takes a lot and gives you quite the thrill. Anyway, the only problem is the slightly jumbled release speed. No offense, but, if you can't keep up, just slow down, whats the... more>> point of releasing a bunch in a week, and then a month nothing? Keep it steady, at least. <<less

It had a lot of potential, and I liked the start... MC has a strong urge to kill but wants to be moral, so he kills some scum. That mostly gets forgotten for a while though, he's pretty much the same as all the other characters in the game.

After a few games, it just started becoming an "omg so random" type of thing instead of having any sort of logic. That applies to the MC, too. He started suddenly doing random stuff against his own interests because he's crazy? I'm... more>> fine with a crazy MC, actually that's probably my favorite type... but you can't just set him up as one type of crazy (mu*derous) and then suddenly do a 180 for no reason (really wants to help a creature and starting random fights just to let the opponent go after he wins).

As a note to anyone who does read it though: I recommend having another tab with Google Translated raws or something, because the Webnovel translation sucks. That lets you check what things were supposed to say. Official TL puts "rub-a-dub" instead of "dong dong dong" ffs, who thinks that's a good TL??? And most of the time it says "psychopath", Google just says "crazy" which fits way better. <<less

Mature content, gore, horror, mystery, cunning side characters and a complex political climate entwined with real earth geopolitical-politics and the supernatural, Psychopaths and self aware, but unrepentant characters.

This is for you, if you like this.

Turn away if:

You don't enjoy ruthless characters, anti heroes, violence, shallow friendships, distrust and casual s*x and violence, sudden deaths because you'll find all of that here.

If you are looking for obsessive romance of either the gay or straight variety you won't find it here either.
