Doomsday Carnival

The story begins in midsummer.

Along with more and more cases of disappearance, a bizzare urban gossip in the internet spread: Aliens came. They will randomly choose a group of people to offer a sacrifice to heaven.

As a person who experienced the discussion, Lin Yi Ning testifies that the tale is partially false.

Aliens did come, but as a member of the missing group, he was not pulled into heaven but instead was transported into another world. And in that world, waiting for them, is an endless horror game.

What makes him wonder however, is that, as a most common otaku, how did the Public Enemy title fall on his head?

Just warning you now, I'm pretty sure there is no ml. I read until chapter 45, got suspicious after getting half way and not seeing any relationships being formed, then fl**ked forward to the end. I couldn't find one there either.

I will say though, this novel is wonderful. I only regret that I went in expecting a ml, which made me pretty disappointed. If I went in expecting no ml, I probably would have continued to crazily read this all through the night.

I will definitely return to this novel once... more>> I'm out of my "romance novels only" faze though, It's too good to pass up!

5/5 if the tags didn't make me have expectations. <<less

not a bad little story, though twelve chapters isn't much to get the feel of it. The games are really short and so far the MC has been the loner type, so no friends, though he makes enemies just by breathing.

there are just too few chapters to rate this yet and I'm not hooked enough to bother with MTL.

Edit: I looked on jjwxc because of other reviewers comments and this is a No CP story. So if your looking for fluff and some papapa you've come to the wrong novel.

Somehow, it's realistic and shows a good trail of expressions.

The MC, by no means, is perfect, but he is still able to keep calm through the horror and terror of his first game.

The author showcases real human emotions, although they are shallow, you can feel the guilt, shock, and fear rolling off the words.

... more>> There are foreshadows already about what had happened and what would happen, and I'm quite looking forward to it.

I recommend it to anyone who's read these following novels:

DO NOT READ THIS NOVEL.

Why? Because it's f*cking waste of time. Idk what other word I should use, it's just that BAD. I survive to read till chapter 49 in hope that it'll get better, but it obviously doesn't.

The Setting

So, this novel has the same premise as these novel: Omniscient Point of View, The Earth is Online, and Force of Temptation idk why the other said My House of Horror, because it doesn't have any similarity except for the phone app. Humans all over the world get s**ked into... more>> these game or even to another world all together because of some foreign forces. With this kind of setting, it's really hard for a story to fail (cuz that premise is FIRE) but this novel right here seems to achieve the impossible.

Things that left a lot be be desired

So how could it happen? Simply put, the author's writing sucks:

  • There's minimal writing to describe changes, plot shifts, or even the core elements of the story. One of the main example would be the app. From the get go, we already know the app should be a core in this story. It is, but author doesn't have the decency to properly write description for the app. How does it look like? Author just write it just as "a suspicious looking app". What function it has? MC only mention that he can see his player data, players' rank, and eventually there's suddenly a live broadcast feature that ends up having no relevance to the story.
  • There's no written game notification or player profile. Or basically anything that could help us reader keeps up with what the MC and everybody level, skills, and items that they has gained so far. I swear to god author just paddling through this.
  • Again, no build-up has ever happen in the story. Things just happen whenever author feels like adding it. Oh MC escaping but there's nowhere to hide? Let's just make him enter this huge ass tower that has never mentioned before. Need something to push the plot forward? Let's make the MC's weapon needing a new material to be upgraded.
  • Characterization is so flat, even for the MC (heck, I think MC got the worse of it). From the start, we have no scene where we can see how the MC attitude supposed to be. Author mentioned him to be an otaku and a bit depressed, but I see no hint of it through out the beginning. And then after the first game, he just became a cold puppet whose only purpose is to push the plot forward, cuz really, I don't see any personality from him, ever.
  • The games is too simple. If it's not a derivation of players put put to kill each other (basically any form of competitions), it's just zero tension & non brain burning of the supposed "puzzle instance". The puzzle is simple, the mystery is easily solved, the competition is straightforward as it can be, heck, even the human intrigue has no drama. So what are we supposed to eating here??
The more I example I could've write, but that basically a gist of it.

...*sigh* really, this is the first time I have rated a fantasy/action novel this low. Because no matter the how bad the plot was, with genres like that, at least it's still feel somewhat exciting to read right? But no, this novel has never given any joy. This novel could've been saved if author just put a *little* bit more effort on writing description but nope, just gonna keep this novel as a garbage I guess... <<less

I want to like this, but it isnt written that great. It seems like a knockoff of a Korean novel I read (forgot the name) with some elements of My House of Horrors. However, this is more similar to the Korean novel as it is a survival game where people are forcibly put up against each other where only a few will survive each round

It's a nice start since I beginning to read this novel. When I first see this I through this is some bl but not and it did not have a sh*t harem or something.

During survival there will be a no no romance and it have well 'maybe' the story will be a down fall just like some novel I know. (I did not include some bl, shounen ai or some other stuff. Just really feel upset to that novel I read the other day. It will be good if that... more>> novel have no romance so that the MC live some IQ) <<less
