After acquiring a mysterious fragment, Yan Jinchang discovers he is the protagonist in a novel. His Master, who once approached him, turns out to be a transmigrator aiming to exploit his luck for wealth and power.

Through many twists, he also learns that his clingy Junior Brother is a reborn soul intent on stealing his fortune to change his own fate.

This time, Yan Jinchang swears he won’t repeat his mistakes.

An Shao, after having his fortune told, learns that his destined partner will descend from the heavens during a rare, bloody event. Long anticipating this, he finally sees it come true. But in his excitement, he forgets to assume human form and rushes forward in his true shape…

After laying all cards on the table, An Shao joyfully carries the handsome Yan Jinchang to bed. The next morning, he stumbles out trembling—only to be pulled back in.

Yan Jinchang seizes An Shao’s ankle: “Impressive stamina. Running already?”

An Shao: !!

Couple: Cold, beautiful, powerful Top x cheerful, handsome, charming Bottom.

This is my first time writing a review for a novel but seriously this novel deserves it. I have no idea why the ratings are so low and this isn’t more popular since it has all the makings of a masterpiece.

I want to first say if you like:

- slow burns

... more>> - a couple who are protagonists to their own stories

- a large range of side characters that play important roles to the plot/story

- intense battles

- morally grey characters

- plot driven narrative

- world building

- clever characters

then this is the novel for you. I personally always wanted a long cultivation novel where you can see and feel that characters are their own person in a lived in expansive world. The main characters also have noticeable development in their relationships with each other and their close confidants.

The antagonists are extremely well done. In every instance of battle and event, there was a palpable threat to the main characters and their lives as well as proper build up to substantial moments.

The transmigration aspect to this story is very interesting and the way everything ties up near the end was honestly so magnificent. I may be hyping this up but I finished reading it like yesterday and it was soooo good.

Okay now on to the couple. I will not say a lot but this is exactly how I expect two smart and cautious people with trust issues to fall in love. They didn’t really trust each other at first but due to proximity and the amount of life and death battles they had with each other, they gradually grew to trust and then love each other. I feel like you need to experience meeting them yourself since this couple is genuinely one of my favourite fictional couples ever.

The MC (Yan Jinchang) :

- well developed

- smart (he schemes A LOT)

- weak to strong

- beautiful but
Spoiler

not many minor characters know since he hides it with disguises and he has a seal on him that’s very plot relevant

[collapse]

- cunning

- great actor

- cold faced most of the time

- unintentionally hilarious (I stopped reading so many times due to laughter)

the ML (An Zhao)

- well developed

- smart

- playful

- super funny

- beautiful/ handsome (I’d say he’s more masculine than mc)

- perceptive

- Unintentionally and intentionally hilarious

Both MC and ML are shameless as well. They always make the side characters feel like a third wheels when they’re around them. I’d also say they are good at arguments cause every time they verbally sparred with people they don’t lose (they probably angered their enemies to death) . <<less

First time ever writing a review on Novel Updates. This novel is soo good!

Suitable for readers looking for a long xianxia novel (>600 chapters) with a level-up flow.

The author's writing is solid, with logical plotlines, humor, and a well-developed romance. The world-building is massive, and the fight scenes are well-executed, not the kind where a single move or a flashy artifact instantly defeats the enemy.

MC in his previous life was betrayed and deceived until the very end. When MC is reborn, he knows the plot of the story through a... more>> fragment, but it's not the typical scenario where they immediately realize they're living in a book or follow the plot exactly. Instead, MC chooses to take a different path, living according to his own desires, completely disregarding the original storyline.

In this new life, MC meets An Shao. The two end up traveling together by chance, going through many experiences.

A big plus for the author is that the bot is not feminized, and both characters are strong. They rarely say overly cheesy things, but their actions are wholesome and sweet. Their relationship develops slowly but steadily, and they're always by each other's side.

The author crafted the story with great care, even for the side characters, who are written with unique personalities. As for the villains in the story, they are purely evil, evil to the point of making people feel disgusted.

They are a bunch who value their own interests above all else, treating human lives like tr*sh. They're not only evil but also powerful. If the main character didn't have the protagonist's halo, these villains would have successfully carried out all their schemes (like for real). <<less

I liked this novel.........I was actually looking for a long cultivation novel... and this suited the best with good storyline....... it's full of twists, good amount of all the elements and good ending.... MC and ML are likeable with bitter past lives and found solace in each other. If you want to read a long novel you should go for it

Super invested and can’t escape. As typical of an actual protagonist, he escapes one trouble to inevitably wind up in another. He doesn’t always manage to escape successfully, and it’s interesting to see him figure out how to escape. The system is so damn annoying, telling players to ‘help’ the protagonist when those players are evil and only want his fortune. Seriously, the system is not helping at all.

An Shao is wildly carefree, principled, and hopeless with directions.

all villains deserve to be villains and knocked out of the picture. Very... more>> enjoyable read.

Seriously surprised I haven’t found this gem before today. No romance yet, but it’s getting there. Both MC and ML don’t easily trust, and they bond over always being on the run and taking revenge on villains. <<less

I'm at chapter 996 and I still can't find the extra chapters. All I can say is that it's crazy! Everything is connected!!! Everything makes sense!! (There might be some plot holes but I might not notice them due to the language barrier)

Spoiler

The identity of MC is what surprised me the most. If you don't finish reading, you may never know! Because we have been with the character all along and didn't think in that direction at all. It's crazy. 🤯🤯

[collapse]

I gave it 4.5 stars, deducting 0.5 because I wasn't happy with that F*CK system ending (outsiders) or maybe because I haven't read the extra chapters myself.

If you have enough patience, I really recommend you to read it. It's not like other stories that go to higher continents and repeat the same old loops. They will encounter new situations and events every time. It's a real MC and ML journey.

Spoiler

It was revealed why MC and ML were reborn around ch.990.

[collapse]

Spoiler

ML met his parents, but never mind, they were useless.

Absolutely loved it.

Was home from work because I threw my back out and let me tell you, even in mtl I was so invested in the story I forgot about my back pain for a while.

The start is a bit weird, like the author begins the story in a way that assumes you already know what's going on, which is not a bad thing! Instead this was well done and kept me interested enough to hook me in the slower starting chapters.

Plot points are well placed, the foreshadowing is a... more>> little heavy handed in places but honestly, it matched the vibe of the book so it was not a bad thing.

Normally in cultivation novels of this length by the end you're mostly like, "why isn't it over yet" or "I can tell the moment the author got bored of it" or "damn where did the rest go?" but this novel is quite happily balanced in the later half, and even the weird side-quest arcs managed to keep me interested, and the ending was as close to perfect as I think this author could have come.

Romance 5/5 (sweet easy and a little will they, wont they in the beginning, and their old married couple vibes are very well done)

R18 content 3/5 (it's there in a very metaphor kinda way but I enjoyed the tentacle play almost as much as MC did) (and I am a fan of biters and An Shao won me over)

Villains 4/5 (not gunna lie, haven't seen this particular rebirth/transmigrator set up before and I enjoyed it, a little weird at the end but still ok)

Side characters 5/5 (just the right amount of presence, a lot of them are repeatedly mentioned and well fleshed out, call backs are meaningful)

Definitely set aside some time to read this.

Edit to add: translation is very well done up to this point (ch 73) <<less
