Shao Cixin liked Wen Yu, and she was very good to her. She reached for the stars and held the moon in her hands, showing her sincerity.

But Wen Yu’s pursuit of Shao Cixin was not as sincere. She just wanted to use Shao Cixin to get back at her ex-girlfriend. While Shao Cixin was worthless in Wen Yu’s eyes, the two still became each other’s wives after a business marriage.

It wasn’t until Shao Cixin’s death when Wen Yu finally realized that Shao Cixin was the person who loved her most in the world.

She deeply regretted her actions. If she could start her life over again, she would never let Shao Cixin down again!

As a result, Wen Yu was really reborn. She swore that, this time, she wouldn’t fail to hold onto Shao Cixin.

But she didn’t get to enjoy her new life for long before she saw Shao Cixin holding her sister Wen Zhihan’s arm with a smile on her face.

Then Wen Zhihan said, “Come say hello, this is your sister-in-law.”

Wen Yu: ?

Shao Cixin met someone who was not a good person.

After marrying her heartthrob of many years, Shao Cixin realized that this person did not love her at all, and in fact even kept contact with their ex-girlfriend after marriage.

Shao Cixin was devastated and embarrassed. She realized that all her true feelings had been fed to a scum. After a sudden accident, she died unexpectedly.

Then…she was reborn.

After being reborn, Shao Cixin swore that she would never walk the same path as she did in her past life.

Wen Yu?

Get lost, s*um woman!

Marriage?

Wouldn’t a gentle and pure beauty like Wen Zhihan be more suitable?

However, after getting along with Wen Zhihan and living together, Shao Cixin discovered—

Wen Zhihan’s character is not as gentle and pure as she thought!!

Translator’s Notes:

– Wen Yu’s (rotten ex’s) viewpoint is not supported by the author

– this novel promotes the success of healthy relationships

– enjoy!

6/5, extra star because I heard the translator is very cute.

Translator here~

This is my first time writing a review on NU about a novel, and it's also my first time translating a story. I saw that this novel was popular and had no translations, so I decided to translate it myself to read personally.

But I guess fate had a different plan for me because I became so engrossed in the story that I kept translating chapter after chapter, and now I want to share it with the world. That's... more>> how good it is.

Four straight days of translating, 90 chapters, and a bunch of carpal tunnel later, I can give my thoughts about this novel. I still have the extras to read through, but they're all fluff, judging by the author's comments. There will be no spoilers here.

What can I say about this story? Well, first of all, it's a take on the classic trope of a bad girlfriend treating their significant other poorly, then realizing after they lose them that they love them, so they get a chance to go back in time and chase their wife for a happy ending. We're used to seeing the s*umbag protagonist get a happy ending.

But what if they don't?

That's the premise of this story. Although it's focused on the recipient of the abusive relationship, it's not a story of a s*umbag's redemption. It's a story about a beaten-down woman looking for her happiness after being denied it for so long.

I love the characters. The world truly feels alive. Although the cast of characters is smaller than "She Is The Protagonist, " another story by the same author, the main characters and some side characters each have their character development. Rather than the characters following the plot, the plot is moved by the characters, and the readers are peering into their lives. The story is written so that it's like these interesting characters are colliding and interacting, and someone just happened to record it.

It goes without saying that the characters are charming, especially the main character, Shao Cixin, who is similar to Yu Ru Bing from SITP. Unlike Yu Ru Bing, however, as evidenced by the synopsis, she has a lot of trauma, which plays a part in how she acts. She goes through quite the journey and finally grows up as a character. Plus, I think our Xinxin is cuter, but that's my opinion. I genuinely believe this is a coming-of-age story; even though the characters are older than the usual protagonists of those stories, I think it's apt to call it that.

Although the premise and start might turn people off, this novel is not angsty, and there are not many melodramatic moments or problems that arise for the sake of pushing the plot along. This story doesn't focus on external conflicts but the internal strife and insecurities of the main characters. Everything feels natural, like how two people in that situation would act. This novel is one of the author's most recent novels, and their writing and characterization have improved dramatically... and so have the romantic lines.

Would I say that it's perfect? No, nothing in this world is perfect, but I know without a doubt that it is by far one of the best Baihe novels I have read. Would I say that it's a bit cliched? Yes, it does have a few tropes that avid Chinese Baihe fans would be familiar with. But it does each trope very well and even subverts a lot of them, and I think that's what matters.

I'm not the most eloquent with my words so I'll just be frank- I love this story. And I hope that at the very least, you could give it a try. <<less

It's still too early for me to give an opinion, but when I saw that it was by the same author of "She is the Protagonist" I already knew I would like it, and so far I'm really enjoying it. Even the main characters resemble those of the author's other novel.

So far so good :-) The plot is a little similar to don't chase me, it's fruitless by the same author but personally, I like this one better!! As usual, I like the protagonists. I always like the dynamics of the character this author writes specially the "She is the protagonist" (highly recommended) The jokes is fabulous too hahaha. Can't stop laughing at the memes or idioms the author is using. ≪33

Ms. Translator if you're reading this, hope you continue this one. So hard to read the MTL version... more>> :-- ( <<less

As expected of She is the Protagonist's Author, this one is good too! The MC reminds me of Rubing who has funny and lively character. Meanwhile, the FL is unique on its own way, which is a quiet and gentle person.

Honestly, just like the title, every chapter is almost unexpected or too absurb that it became funny lol. Also, there's a lot of smut! Yum!

Awesome story and as the tl said it diverts from the cliche and the s*um lover did not get that undeserved redemption

FL zhihan is sweet and all the good things can be said about her. Seriously, one thing one could complain in this novel is why didn't cixin love, , well I'll not spoil

The protagonist is like a southern belle, she's cheeky and coquettish and lovable

... more>> The romance is sweet, tender and sexy (yes there are smut scenes in there)

It's a wholesome novel, so anyone looking for a tender yuri where romance is the centre and character development/ self worth is also the focus, I'd say pick this one up <<less

Cute, fluffy. Don't think too hard and just enjoy the ride kind of story.

This author is consistent, though to be honest, this is the first novel of hers that I've finished.

She has a problem with keeping my attention because she has a penchant of prolonging stories past their natural ending. It's like getting filler episides but at the end, which seems purposeless but, I mean, it's more fluff, so at most it's just taking me longer to actually finish her stories.

This one is the first I've finished cuz out of... more>> all her MCs, I do like this one the most. <<less

3.5 rounded up to 4. I don't think my review will be very flattering, so if you like the novel a lot, you might want to skip this one.

In general, this is a good novel, a solid one, even. Maybe if I didn't know it was written by the same author as SITP, I could've given a more objective review, but it is what it is. Minor unmarked spoilers ahead for this novel and SITP-major spoilers will be marked.

The novel feels a lot like a first draft of SITP that... more>> was set aside because the idea didn't really work out (yet) for the author and then they went back to improve and finish this novel. The plot is different, but the elements of traveller (s) to a different world (even if it's in the past) is there and the characters, especially our two main characters feel a lot like they're just borrowing Yu (Bu) Rubing and Tan Hanqiu's personalities.

I didn't even try very hard to find the similarities or anything and it's been a while since I read SITP, too. Shao Cixin obviously shares a split twin soul with YRB - with their love for trolling, their otherworldly way of thinking, their fondness for gold-rimmed glasses (iirc), their aspiration for acting, their liking of beautiful things and the effort to blow rainbow farts to certain CEOs... the only glaring difference might be that Shao Cixin can't sing while YRB was a former idol.

Meanwhile Wen Zhihan, just like THQ, is unbelievably beautiful, patient, rich, strong willed, of course there's the CEO part, and is it really a coincidence that they both also have (adopted) siblings that are useless.

Plot wise... the author once again utilized the variety show (darn variety show, but what else to expect in an actress x CEO novel) and fake relationship trope.
Spoiler

Not just in the main story, but also in the What If extras oh my good lord I love fake relationship trope as much as any self-respecting queer in AO3 fandoms but really???

[collapse]

It does feel slightly more polished than SITP in some aspects but it feels like I'm seeing the characters I knew role-playing a different story.
Spoiler

I'll pretend it's a reincarnation story or something I guess, especially since it was never really explained why and how the characters get reborn.

[collapse]

Okay now for a very major plot point spoiler.
Spoiler

I'm not sure if the author intended for us to know from almost the very beginning that Wen Zhihan was also reborn because when Shao Cixin pointed out that Wen Zhihan never attended her movie premiere in the previous life but she did in this one, all sorts of flags had already gone up in my mind. There were also "casual" questions she asked Shao Cixin that made it rather obvious she already had a hypothesis in mind and was just trying to confirm it. The reveal wasn't surprising at all. That makes the whole story rather predictable and tame, rather than bringing anything new or surprising. They barely even utilize the reborn Wen Yu anyway.

[collapse]

Spoiler for 1 extras arc:
Spoiler

Given my review above, I don't think it'll be surprising if I say that I enjoy the alternate universe where Shao Cixin survived better. Wen Zhihan actually confessed in that one rather than using long-winded schemes to make Shao Cixin fall for her oh lord. It's also interesting to see a glimpse of how both families and MCs move on from the aftermath of Wen Yu's betrayal. Unfortunately, there's less Hong Hong in this universe : (

I knew this novel would be great when I found out that it has the same author as SITP. And I was right! It's really great. MC is almost the same as MC of SITP but more cuter and endearing. My favorite character though is the FL. Just wow. She's the perfect example of unconditional love. I can't help but love her and at the same time ache for her due to what she's been through. Although both of them are a little bit timid when it comes to showing... more>> how they feel, I still enjoyed every little bit of it. Overall, it's amazing. <<less

I loved it, simple as that. The plot was quite interesting, the chemistry between the main couple is excellent, and the characters are very interesting. I'm being quite vague, I won't be able to explain it well so just read it. It's an excellent read, no doubt about that.

Shao Cixin is hilarious, and I genuinely think her way of thinking should be studied. She reminds me quite a bit of Yu Ru Bing from 'She is The Protagonist', and Gina from 'Brooklyn 99', but way more tame.

Wen Zhihan's character is... more>> something individual readers should discover on their own. But one thing is for sure, she is way better than Wen Yu.

And for some reason, I didn't realize until I re-read the main story to rate it that this had the same author as 'She is The Protagonist' and 'Outrageous'. The author's writing is excellent, and super fun to read. <<less

The story itself isn't too different from the time travelling fics you'll see out there even if it's yurk. But what I like about this compared to other similar stories is that the MC is making better choices and is not forgiving the ones who wronged her. (I can't say much more on that point because it's a spoiler.)

You will feel very vindicated reading this story. Very cathartic to see her rip into the s*umbag character
