Reborn to 1996, Bei Yao became a four-year-old little dumpling, living opposite the world’s catastrophic devil who had a crush on her twenty years later. Devil Pei Chuan was now five years old, with disabled legs and inferiority complex.

Later they became seventeen, Bei Yao became a “school flower” of her high school. Pei Chuan froze, clasped his wheelchair tightly, and warned her, “Don’t say you like me, or else …” Bei Yao hugged his neck and smiled sweetly at him. Pei Chuan couldn’t help but hold her waist, and his suppressed emotions broke out. Belonging to his heart for two lives, Bei Yao wanted to know what the devil was like.

I wrote this in my rec list description so I'll just copy-paste it here:

Pretty similar to "Guide To Raising the Sick Villain" in terms of character set up (pure FML and I-hate-the-world ML) but I personally like this one better. Different from GTRSV, FML is sent back to the past (instead of transmigrating to a novel) with the knowledge that before her death ML had revealed that he secretly loved her in that life, but unlike most reborn to the past novels, FML's young body restricts her from having complete... more>> memory of her past life. Because of this, she treats ML differently but not with the intention of getting together with him. The romance develops almost as if FML's rebirth cheat didn't exist which is a nice change of scenery compared to most OP FMLs.

ML stays disabled to the end (after all, it's hard to recover from severed limbs) and there is no miracle recovery like GTRSV. Speaking of which, there is a some muted thriller elements in the later part of the story so if you're uncomfortable with mentions of blood then this may not be for you. <<less

Spoiler

Alright so I haven't read the whole novel, nor have I read it from the beginning, just randomly started reading from chapter 50 and the mtl'd 40 more chapters.

Rant alert - second half of the book

You could say that the novel focuses on disabilities and hardship that comes with them, making mistakes and redemption that comes after them (in this case the ml's being imprisoned), hardship after being released from prison, mental breakdown after your child was subjected to extreme harm. But the novel doesn't really explore any of these topics. The ml's suffering after he was kidnapped as a 4 year old, his mother's breakdown - resulting in her rejecting him because of his missing leg (???) - and all the misfortune he has gone through seem really forced, as if the FL was supposed to be the only ray of sunshine in his life. And so all his suffering happened just so he would be subjected to prejudice, his self-esteem would drop to ground levels and the FL would accept him as he is, even wait more almost 10 years for his release from prison. Which ultimately was 5 years later, but the ML lied, so the FL would falsely believe he's still in prison and gain experience in the world, to let her know that he can't provide for her, he is disabled and prison-stained all the the other bs even though he can make millions in days, can plot to marry her, making himself the safe marriage option instead of the villainous rich second generation bastard who wants to take the FL as foil to prevent danger to his lover. The only good thing the ML did was to turn himself in and then start working with the government. He tries to keep her safe, but even though he knows that a person who likely mu*dered somebody has his eyes on her, he still can't protect her and could only hire thugs to beat the guy up when he showed himself up at her mother's house. As intelligent as the ML is, he should know that when he tipped the crazy woman who's after her son's mu*derer (the big bad villain wanting to forcefully take the FL as his wife), she would force him to his death through business and shady means. Which led to the nonsensical kidnapping incident, because the big bad villain was forced to the path of no return, ugh I can't even. Ah yes, their honeymoon which was already described in one of the spoilers and I specifically read it to see if it was that bad, yes it was kinda bad. The ML couldn't restrain himself after drinking with the fl. The fl, even though was practically asleep, consented and they did the deed. Well, he did because she didn't seem to enjoy it, crying from the pain and feeling bad after eating something bad. Afterwards she falls sick for days, with high fever, doctor telling him he should clean his wife properly after. Regarding the prison and after prison hardship, there was none. The only thing there was, was him being there and characters mocking him for being disabled and in prison, which obviously doesn't really matter as the ML is a super ultra genius who could have ultimately lead a crime syndicate or something, but unfortunately turned himself in, then got turned into a government scientist. The characters don't really have that much depth and development, maybe the ML finally sees that the FL likes him for who he is, and the fact that he has a prosthetic doesn't change that (after numerous words, actions and trials proved it lol), so the development wasn't very reasonable. In my mind I always call these 2.5D characters, as they aren't as developed as some in the better descriptive novels, but are still better than the low-class jp novels characters with completely 0 development. The ml's mother also seemingly was in a trauma after her son's incident, only to turn up after years of absence to sell out his wife to the bad guy and then to throw herself in the river, like wtf. With the psychological tag I expected a bit more, instead got the ML refusing to communicate with the FL when: 1) turning himself in and revealing his identity/crimes to her, resulting in her not knowing what the heck happened for her bf to suddenly go to jail and then lose contact with him; 2) the ML strong-armed the fl's parents to permit their marriage in their moment of weakness, kinda resulting in him becoming what he hated?? I mean the villain undermined their family to have no choice but to marry the FL to him, and the ml, instead of immediately helping them, waited for the right moment in their desperation to offer a magical hand. His inferiority complex really must have hit the bottom of the well, thinking to himself that instead of slowly gaining their trust, he will kill two birds in one stone - prevent the other guy from messing around and gain approval. Neither went smoothly for him though lmao. The female lead always had to be kept in the dark and protected instead of them supporting each other when others stood in their path, with the ML always stating that she's still young etc, as if she had no mind of her own and couldn't carry the burden of her choices. I really didn't like how he never let her in on the important topics and choices - prison, marriage, and even dangers concerning her, with the FL having no choice but to meet the consequences of his choices - waiting for his sentence to end, get suddenly married, get kidnapped.

Went with high expectations regardless, but ultimately wasn't satisfied, as the author really used the ml's disability to practically turn the whole world against him, resulting in the ML becoming really unreasonable, and just plain irritating.

Even though I haven't read the whole book I agree with another review - being disabled doesn't allow you to be a d*ck to others and justify it.

This was an exhausting read. I would have rated this higher if not for that s*x scene and how this novel generally deteriorated towards the end.

There are novels that depict how someone so broken and damaged have been healed by love. But... honestly, sometimes the romance in this just felt like abuse. It was disappointing.

Nice and short novel.

to simplify it was:

  • Realistic
  • A boy with a tough life who thinks that he don't deserve to be loved and who isolate from others.
  • A novel wich talk about consequences, self-loved and never give up in life and on yourself.
A really good novel.💓💖

mediocre. I was pretty let down seeing all the sparkling reviews for the novel. I thought it would be a more realistic exploration of both characters but it ended up feeling a lot more over the top than I expected? The MC can be summarized into "pure, naive, beautiful girl" (you will be AMAZED at just how many descriptions there are of her purity and beauty) and I couldn't find it in me to get invested in either the MC or ML. They both feel like caricatures instead of actual... more>> people. ML is very unlikable and immature, which I actually wouldn't mind if he seemed like a real person instead of another extremely OP, capable of earning money out of f*cking nowhere type. He's in HIGH SCHOOL but he somehow was able to earn enough money to buy a car worth a million during the first year he ran away from home??? HUH???? It felt like the author tried to be deep by throwing all of these traumatizing events at the ML but completely forgot to flesh out his personality or make him a character worth getting invested in during the process. My most notable impression of him is how many sneers and smirks he does throughout the story 😭😭😭. I thought this would be a serious exploration of how internalized ableism affects someone but it's a lot more overly dramatized and shallow than I expected. Don't come into this expecting amazing characterization for either the MC or ML.

Oh, and this novel also normalizes hitting children as a means of discipline. I found it pretty disgusting how the MC's parents valued her "obedience" so much and had many urges to beat up a literal toddler (the little brother) just for acting his age. Obedience shouldn't make a child more lovable. That trait is only valuable in authoritarian styles of parenting where the parent acts like a child's compliance is OWED to them, which it isn't. Obedience has nothing to do with helping a child's development and only serves the authority figure (the parent) by making a child easier to command. It's upsetting because this was obviously treated like normal in the story (and I know it's normal in a lot of societies but it's still disgusting). Wouldn't someone else speak up if a husband was hitting their wife? Why not see children as beings worth treating with respect as well. <<less

It took me days to recover from this novel because my feelings were all over the place and it left me numb.

Thought I had exhausted all the good novels but this..... this was exceptional. I never cried this bad for 80% for a novel...

To me, this novel is about pure unconditional love.

... more>> I don’t think this review will do any justice to this novel but I have to really write this down.

I am at awe at how well this novel is written. It’s beautiful and the development of every character is well planned out. It really touches my heartstrings and it’s rare for me to feel so heavily for a character. I think about their motivations and put myself in their shoes along the way and it brought me to so many crossroads that I can’t even imagine just how it must’ve felt to the characters itself.

Bei Yao and Pei Chuan are really puzzle pieces that come together that fit so well. They complete each other and put the other before themselves. It’s so amazing to read about how much they grow to love the other despite the challenges they faced. And the challenges like Pei Chuan’s inferiority complex is something that’s really tough to overcome given everything he’s went through. I know that such things are hard to be casually mentioned and Bei Yao, being full of love and patience, managed to to relentlessly melt Pei Chuan.

The 2 are really a set. They help each other to grow and they shower the other with love that it makes me so so so tearful. It gave me serious post-novel vibes that I stare into space after finishing it.

A really good read and easily a 5/5. I’m so glad I read this <3 <<less

.... my poor baby Pei Chuan😭. He's really a tragic boy. To sum up the novel is one sentence: The miserable life of Pei Chuan and how Bei Yao heals him with love. It literally broke my heart how the author wrote out his life.

This is a really good and emotional read. It deals with some heavy stuff that really weighs down on your thoughts. Think A Guide Guide to Raising a Sick Villain but a little darker.

It's great that author doesn't just have a full blown 5 year old... more>> Bei Yao with the memories of her 20 something year old self. She gains her memories piece by piece, letting her character be a lovable child when she's literally a child. (Bei Yao is literally so cute and innocent, but not s*upidly naive or dumb. She's just pure and kind). It's very well paced with characters that you grow to love as you read.

The ONLY "downside" is:

Spoiler

This is more of a matter that it was really painful to read because of this. Pei Chuan has a inferiority complex—which makes total logical sense and I understand why it's there—but it really hurts your heart. Like, a lot of things could avoided if he doesn't have one but unfortunately, he does. And honestly, this is more of a personal issue because I just feel so bad for Pei Chuan. He's such a good, smart child yet he always feels less than human because of how everyone treated him and feels he can never be loved because of his legs. I just really broke my heart every time his feelings of inferiority pop up. Like, none of this is his fault but everyone hold NO SYMPATHY whatsoever. Again, probably an exaggeration, I just feel indignant for my baby Pei Chuan.

Their love is very heartwarming and beautiful and I really recommend reading this. <<less

4/5 for me.

If you're here for fluff, DON'T. Stay far away from this novel.

If you're here for normal angst, DON'T. You may need to change your mind.

... more>> This isn't your average angst novel. This is really dark novel.

I saw review about the ML is very unlikable and I agree. One line from this novel that struck me though when MC tried to make ML a good person and then finally realized his situation that nobody in his world was kind to him, so why would him be kind to others? That made me understood why ML acted the way ML did. MC may be the only one who's kind to him but he couldn't trust her.

I disagree with other reviewer said about there's no character development for ML though. ML grew from someone who had a very skewed view of the world and full of distrust, he learnt at the end to trust not only MC but the childish friends he made along the way. He also strive to be a good father for his children.

As for MC, at first I'm not very sure to feel about her forgetting her memories of past life. It kinda make the premise pointless but I got used to it and didn't mind it. I honestly don't have any opinion about her. She's just a passionate person. She doesn't have any ambition other than wanting to see ML happy. It's not an understatement to say that MC lives for ML although that has been established from the start and I don't know what to say if you don't see it coming.

All in all, don't actually read this if you want plot? I don't actually remember what to expect when reading this. This is a character-driven story, specifically, ML-driven story and as I've mentioned before, ML isn't an angel. His nickname was Satan for a reason.

TW: dubious consent first interc**rse

Spoiler

ML slept with MC for the first time while she was intoxicated. She did say no at first but she later on didn't mind him. So I'm not so sure. Just putting trigger warning if you're sensitive of such topic. It was a very brief moment though.

This is the second time I made a review in this website. The first one was because I was irritated by the biased review of the other readers. And now, this story really touch me.

It was quite realistically written. The author had amazingly depicted the characters. Also, the translator was amazing to be able to finish this heavy felt story.

Before you proceed, the one who's reading this, you have to know that this review contains major spoilers about the story.

First of all, I'm amaze how the rebirth happened. Because unlike... more>> other rebirth stories where the leading characters would under through rebirth then love the person who truly loves them in their past life.

In this story it wasn't, although we all know that they would naturally end up together. The slice of life really plays a major part in the story that in my opinion makes it quite amazing. At the beginning of the story you can see that although Bei Yao knew that Pei Chuan loves her, she didn't automatically reciprocates it. It makes the story more interesting that you would ask for more.

Additionally, Bei Yao remembering her life but having her memories regressed to what is suitable for her body was quite new but convincing. In the first part, Bei Yao revealed some pointers about the future antagonist but didn't delve much into it that gives it a mystery for what the futures holds.

Bei Yao revealed about Huo Xu that atleast gives us a preview about the major antagonist and makes me suspicious of secrets in her past life that she never get to know. Also, Bei Yao tells us how Pei Chuan was the one who truly loves her and the one who saves her in her past life which create a deep gratitude in her heart.

While reading the story there's a thing I have always been curious of, "how did he (Pei Chuan) fell in love with her?", which later on will be answered by the end of the story.

Now talking about Pei Chuan, he's character was realistically written that I got somewhat annoyed by it. The author was able to depict his character amazingly, from the psychological trauma to his inferior complex, it's just that I can't help but to be annoyed at the same time pity him. But then I realize that no matter how much someone get over a psychological trauma, there will be a time that it would still strikes them.

It was shown how his character became, because of different factors that affects it but I think the very reason was the lack of support. Although his parents were distressed for him but their actions shows no difference from abandoning him. As a child that had gone through trauma, what a parents should do was to make him feel that he isn't different as it would only make him miserable knowing he has defects.

Unfortunately, his mother left him because she can't bear to see how he had become and his father was quite lacking for me, I don't know if I should pity him or I shouldn't, as he did his role as a father but it wasn't enough. The incident happened to them is no different from Pei Chuan being dead, they didn't tried to atleast reconciled and talk things through for his sake but chose to live their own life.

The story was really deep. Unlike other MCs, Bei Yao didn't tried too much to deviate what meant to happen. Like Pei Chuan's parents divorce, and taking advantage of her knowledge of future to make her family's life better (her uncle's accidentally killing a person). At first, I was annoyed that their relationship was like push-pull motion and she would always run after him, coax him, and be there for him but realizing how she was the only one caring for him so much was saddening.

One of the things I like in the story was how side character have their own growth and would not follow a typical side character's route and storyline. The depiction of Bei Yao's parent was realistic, like how they only want the best for her and so they talk to Pei Chuan to leave her alone, which kinda irritate me but that's how a parent act.

For me this is the best rebirth story I read. This shows that deeper plot twist and any other things weren't needed you just need an amazing storyline that doesn't have to twist turn instead simple and interesting was enough. Their life in the current life isn't that different from the past life except that this life is, of course, so much better than the bitter past.

The differences were that Pei Chuan in the current life has his own real friends at last and he didn't let himself be swallowed by madness this time. And I was really happy when there was a chapter wherein Pei Chuan, at last, know that he deserve somethings. This is where I think that maybe having a third person in a story gives more charm in the romance.

Huo Xu's appearance starts Pei Chuan's realization that he really can't afford to let Bei Yao be with somebody else that's not him. This is where the spice begins.

All in all, Bei Yao and Pei Chuan deserves this happy ending. What the reborned Bei Yao wants in her current life was to be a filial daughter and paid her gratitude to Pei Chuan by being good to him that she never knew would led her to her greatest happiness. Pei Chuan, on the other hand, finally get rid of his bitterness from his past when he realized that someone cares for him and will chose him.

For me, Bei Yao being depicted as innocent was deserving it was different from those OP reborned MC but both lifetimes she had always been herself; innocent, lovely, and kind. It was no waonder that Pei Chuan would fall in live with her.

I can say that Pei Chuan, at first, was hopeless when he broke his promise to Bei Yao (I was sad for Bei Yao that time) but I think his love for Bei Yao, and Bei Yao's unconditional support finally reach him and makes him change his fate for good. If in the last life he was someone that hates the world and antisocial, this time he was someone that uses his grace to help someone like him, someone with disability.

I can say that the growth in this story was fulfilling. I also realize in this story that no matter how much a person receive a support as long as they weren't willing to save themselves, no one can do so. <<less

Really good.

one of the touching books I’ve read this month. Reminds me of Guide to Raising the Sick Villain which I also enjoyed. Really cute and the characters are likeable. It’s a more realistic book and even with the reborn aspect, the story doesn’t revolve around her past memories at all.

worth the read 10/10

This novel's so good that I had to read the mtl version immediately after I ran out of the translated chapters. I read the mtl version from chapter 19. It's definitely a five-star novel. (The mtl version would need for you to search for context clues though, as it is not really the easiest to read, but you'll get through it.)

It's impossible to dislike the female lead in this novel. She's so kind, pure and very dedicated. When she loves someone, she gives it her all. I like how... more>> she had a pretty normal reaction from gaining her memories. She did not immediately go "I love you Pei Chuan because my future self told me so." No. She just did what was said at the end of the letter and that was to be kind to him. The feelings that came after were natural and stemmed from her eventually gaining insights about Pei Chuan as a person. Her character is just so endearing.

The male lead's tsundere yet yandere type of personality is well-written. There was always a reason for his reactions and tendencies. Also, his character build-up helped a lot in driving the plot. <<less

And the heart warming part is the last extra parts of this novel make me f**king cry in the middle of the night. Both pei Chuan in alternate world get there own happy ending which I am very happy about.

3/5 I'm almost at the end and I'm dropping this.

So, for me, this is an average read. No, it became an average read as I progressed. It started great, I was curious about Bei Yao's development. But I ran out of patience.

Not so major spoiler, just general stuff, but it's still a spoiler if you've never read any chapters.

Spoiler

So bei yao returns to the past. And decides to live her life differently from before, typical introduction stuff, not that bad. It gets interesting when she forgets her previous memories and writes them down on her notebook. I expected maybe character growth, and that FL would be a tad mature than her peers but that's not the case. Thus rousing my interest.

[collapse]

Then came the latter part of the story.

MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. I recommend for you to read until where I left before reading this. Or if you feel frustrated earlier than me.

Spoiler

This man called Pei Chuan IS SO ANNOYING. Like at first I felt bad, I pitied, and sympathized. But there's a limit to how much and how long a person can sympathize. Man's already went to prison, lied to his lover about 3 (or 4?) major events. Received love and understanding from the lover on every event, BUT CAN'T PROGRESS FROM HIS INSECURITY. NO GROWTH, No shit. And the female lead's patience, caring, doting, and understanding has been going on for 17 years :)))) Man still doubted THE FEMALE LEAD'S intention. He also had friends but none moved him to grow. He keeps assuming and assuming and assuming. He forces his own misunderstanding causing more frustration. He's a shitty f*cking lover. And I never understood Bei Yao's words of "He dots me always" when he drew the line when they were younger, never took the initiative to talk to her, threw everything she gave to him (in her perspective). And was moody most of the time. It's like my eyes are blind from the "doting" he's given. The plot always pushes FL to understand it came from ML. But never pushes ML to get out of his misunderstanding. The more I write, the more I notice something's I didn't notice.

[collapse]

I don't want to be unfair, and I understand that ML has a rough life. But 17 yrs should at least have SOME progress. Tag said character growth when ML was as stagnant as a river.

Also it's 3/5 because writing isn't that bad. It just flopped near the end (for me). That's all :) <<less

To who didn't like this novel, it sound ridicolous. Maybe you're the one who always have the positive vibes in you or you haven't really get trauma or etc. The ML have his leg chopped off when still a child, what did you expect? Grow up happily? NO! LMAO. It's traumatising, and what's with his doing? He repent after. It's good. It's called life.

The FL mother, she's considerate of her children. When all of you didn't like her when she didn't like the ML, actually it doesn't actually bad. She... more>> really wants her child be good for lifetime. In society at that timeline, it's harass. If she weds her child with cripple of course she might worry. Worry for his jobs, his s*x life, she afraid that the daughter will not feed well and grow up miserable. It's Ok actually.

I'll not comment the ML father and mother. I know they have their own circumstances. But, to abandon your child. It's not good. The mother actually having trauma but she can't really explain herself. Ending with her child hated her. The father is a scumbag with the name of justice. That's all.

I really enjoyed the novel, it's really good. The extra also. Thank you for the translator and the author, might you all find happiness <<less

When I read this for the first time, I thought it was a pretty interesting, entertaining romance, obviously I had some reservations about his disability and the way it was treated (felt a bit unrealistic) but I didn't really care about or think too much about it, also the fact that her rebirth doesn't really mean anything, and the same bad stuff still happens to him is quite frustrating, but overall I thought it was pretty good.

However, then I read "My Mister Ostrich", which led me to look back on... more>> this novel and realize how completely asinine and s*upid and unrealistic many aspects of this novel are - btw I have only read like 40chps of that novel and it may tank later.

Particularly the characters (the MC, as well as other characters around him) and the way his disability is dealt with in the novel. It really hit me how everyone cares so much about his inability to walk (not really because he can walk quite normally with his tech - don't whats its called lol), everyone disdains him and acts like he won't be able to survive in society? Like what????!?! And then my man in mister ostritch literally doesn't have arms and there really are many things he can't do but the characters still have actual complexity instead of being some typical wuxia character. Reading my mister ostrich just illustrated how truly shallow this novel and the writing was.

If you go into this novel without really thinking to much about it, and just want some josei romance you'll probably enjoy it, but for me I don't think I would like this if I read it again. <<less

Want to rate it 7/5 if I could, which would be a first amongst hundred of web novels I've covered so far.

Realistic through and through, heavy slice of life. Plentiful of bitterness, bitter sweetness, agony and small moments of bliss.

Came with a low expectation and dreaded the disability part of ML would be a simple ink dot on a white sheet, but no. You get to see the wrongs done to him, the struggle he has to walk through and the torn emotions he has between accepting good will as... more>> well as the wrongs he will commit.

MC is literally an angel. She's a well tempered girl like her mother, never to bear grudges or hatred. With a gentle disposition and a second chance at life, she slowly creates more opportunities to get closer to ML

even if she forgot, in her first life she has done her best to help in a way that didn't hurt ML's pride or ego. Her approaches were all out of concern and later on blossomed into love (later on in the 2nd life).

The side characters are all thought out well and there are no unnecessary cannon foddery or close to none at all. To top it off, the characters are all diverse, ranging between many varieties of mixtures of good and evil, which makes the story all the more immersive. Moments of highlight (or vise versa) on the main leads are also not overly exaggerating as I'm normally used to see, nobody would just plunge head in to make their lives miserable or hype them up for nothing.

I love the author's approach on rebirth and

by making her lose most of her past memories because her child self couldn't accept all the trauma, the innocence of hers became more genuine. I always felt like people who adored rebirth children a bit creepy because those people acting cute are mostly faking it to seem more child-like. Her rebirth will be exposed at some point either and I'm incredibly glad ML gets to know because he had always been bothered by her reckless and stubborn kindness and was glad to see that MC herself planned on tell him at some point too.

Their relationship is an extreme slow burn. It is sometimes two steps forward one step back, but that made me cheer the leads on even more.

The story never lost it's focus and the characters never strayed off of their nature.

Amazing translation and plentiful of TN to help with the understanding of the cultural references, a definite must read. <<less
