After the death of his parents, Ji Huan and his sister lived together with their grandfather. Later, his sister married and left, and Ji Huan was also beginning to plan on what to do after high school.

But his normal, everyday life was suddenly disrupted by news of his sister’s bizarre death. Not only that, his sister also left behind a strange message… and a child.

A child that was like a mass of black fog, with two white rings for eyes and a mouth as red as blood.

One after another, strange things started happening in Ji Huan’s life.

Amidst all the confusion, he finds some answers from a mysterious and elegant man called Ah Jin.

And these things that Ah Jin told him of were about to completely change Ji Huan’s life.

While reading this novel, I thought that I was not a passerby but part of them.

It was like watching a group of small saplings slowly grow through storms and rains, until one day that they can bloom beautifully at the top of the world. <<less

Wow! This novel is really great ! Although its unlike other novels where more emphasis is paid on romance, here we dont get much lovey dovey moments btw MC and ML but in itself this novel is very entertaining . Its kinda like a slice of life, with MC raising black eggs and their journey to other world, the authors writing really keeps you interested and involved in the novel. I really like MC's character and espacially love how he treated black eggs like a human baby though he didnt... more>> have any form at all. We also see how he changes ML's life views and gives him warmth of family, how he changes from a cold person to someone who cares about his family. And the characters all are very well fleshed out and likable like their grandpa, and cutest of all black eggs. I would definetly recommend this novel for everyone. <<less

I'd really like to know how people rate things. So far, I'm liking this story. It's slow paced, and the actual plot is just starting to develop as of ch. 6, so it's too early to say whether it's a good or bad work.

The translation could do some improvement, and it gets more readable as chapters advance. I may change my rating as more chaps are tled and I can make a better judgement of this work. This is a SLOW ROMANCE (very little romance) and SLICE OF LIFE IN THE DEVIL WORLD and a little bit of adventure and revenge. I won't recommend this for those who really want a BL romance on the first arc, since the love story between is really slow. But I find this novel good. This novel will make u laugh, cry, and think. It's really heart warming. I WANT MORE!!! I really like the cute and scary black egg ?

For the story romance, I don't even feel love between MC... more>> and ML until mid 3rd arc (ML shows care to MC but ML's priority is still his goal). Eventually, the apathetic ML slowly opens his heart to MC. Without the MC and black egg, this novel will become a tragic story of ML

I want to salute the MC!!! He's stoic and good looking. He's also filial, responsible, hard working, smart and good person (has conscience). MC eventually lives in the devil world (higher realm). Since he is a human, he is very weak but is diligent, enough to cope up with the environment. He's like a virtuous wife

MC's parents died when he was 2y/o. Leaving him, her sister and grandfather. Their family is really poor and his grandpa wasn't in good health anymore and almost blind. Eventually, his sister died (premeditated) and left him her son.

This son is really scary. Black mass with two white rings, black in the middle of that white rings and red mouth. But eventually, its interaction with MC is really cute ?? And I find him lovable.

The ML is as usual an OP now. But When he was young he was weak and from slum and slowly climbed himself to top. His life is slowly divulge in each arc. However, I can't understand what he is thinking. Until arc3, where it is slowly explained the ML's past.

I thought at first that he was starting to fall for MC when he decided to get the devil ring (to protect MC with power it has) yet he s**ked out the devil power inside. Eventually, I realized in arc2 that ML cared for MC but he was more focused in his goal of increasing his power

ML always gets what he wants and the left over is given to MC. He is calculating and cunning but is still a good person devil. He also has a realistic personality. Everything changed when ML loved the MC. Instead of killing everyone to revenge, he wanted only now to recover his power.

I had this novel on and off my To-Read list, and when I finally read it, I really regret that I didn't read it earlier. This is a marvelous work that's pretty original in its world-building and plot.

In fact, when I first read the scene of MC's family and ML transferring to the monster world, the description gave the same feeling as when I first watched the day-to-night transformation scene in Spirited Away. I even heard the background music of The Dragon Boy!

The plot is amazing, and I'm impressed by the level of casual foreshadowing/detailing that the author laid in his descriptions, because almost everything introduced eventually becomes important in some way.

The shonen-ai tag really earns this name, as the romance feels like a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of way - the transition from strangers to lovers flows so smoothly that when the pivotal "confession" scene happened, I wasn't entirely sure it did, in fact, happen. And then the next thing I know, they're acting like an old married couple for the rest of the novel. Compared to other shonen-ai/yaoi novels, the romance in this is really low-key (and no NFSW scenes), but it works for this particular work, because the plot really keeps you riveted to the other mysteries and action happening.

The characters are colorful and pretty fleshed-out, and baby in this story is the best child character of all the works I've read. He fully stands out on his own as a third protagonist in this story (not like an cute ornament for the author to improve the MC's standing) and it's his actions that drive a lot of the plot elements.

I love how, despite being "cute" in the eyes of himself and his family, he can unintentionally scare people just being himself. Example - he's floating in a hot spring and playing, but from the outside, he looks like a horrifying water ghost. Another time, he's playing hide and seek with a bunch of kids (and their bodyguards), and because he unconsciously learned how to stalk from a professional assassin and has big glow-in-the-dark eyes, he unintentionally scared every single kid, guard, and staff member that he caught.

5 stars, all around. I'm satisfied after finishing this.

I wished the author would explain more about how the baby came about, especially considering who he eventually turned out to be, and more explanations about the baby's biological father. Still, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the story. Give it a try! You won't regret it. <<less

To be honest, this was one of the most impactful Novel I've ever read in my life.

It has a charming story, an interesting plot and characterization. I love how natural it is for MC to make impact on everyone around him, and how he tried his best to raise his nephew with love.

The development of the characters is on spot, and honestly the ML is even more awesome with how he started as an as*hole to someone who tried his best to save his family member.

Also reading this story bought... more>> me back to the moment when I was a kid and scared to sleep alone and will always cried everytime I found out I was left alone. It was scary and it was conveyed so beautifully here. On spot. Honest to God, the family's genre here was so strong that if you want to read something heartwarming, do read this.

I'm obsessed with this novel. I'm currently dead tired and I refused to stop reading this until I finished ch. 46. I've barely scratched the surface of what this novel has to offer and I've already experienced moments of intense panic, worry, heartache, and crying. This story is just so beautifully written that I want a physical copy of it in my hand so that I can read over and over again, forever. I highly recommend reading it, for not only the awesome childcare but the relationships that are explored.... more>> It's a very family centered novel which makes it really unique in my eyes.

I live this story so much I don't even know how to Express what I feel about in words. All I can really say it that, "THIS IS A MUST READ!" <<less

This gives me ghibli vibe. I really love this. MC and ML have a life of their own but compliment each other so much. Didnt felt like I was readinng 300+ chapters, thats how interesting it was, or rather how well the flow is written, if this has 1000 chapters I probably wont get tired reading it. The way the author pace and describe the scenario fuels my imagination makes m feel like a world like that do exist. Reading reviews and preparing myself to read the ML said to... more>> be an as*hole to mc's family at first turned better as he interact with MC but encountered a completely different from personality than said. He didnt even changed at that time, he save them for his interest as an individual. He is indifferent, without any attachment just like humans to ants. I dont see that as being an as*hole but as a being who doesnt concern itself with the law of nature as he was raised, yes you see him develop relationship with MC and that is wonderful. MC is admirable, he might be weak physically but that isnt a hindrance. And how pleasant it is that ML seeks revenge but doesnt spread it to innocent people like their child.

Readers most of the time relates their own values and belief to characters in books that if their views differs or act in a way that is wrong in their eye they will immediately label that character as an as*hole when he is just different, he is a devil from the start. He haven't even done bad to others that doesn't concern his revenge. But what to say, it is human nature to label things different from them physically and mentally. <<less

I want to say, why this novel rating 4.1? : ( (My opinion this novel is 4.5/4.6?

Why? Well mostly my opinion same like other reviews, this novel so good <333 altough the romance so sloww burn

But when ML slowly fallen to MC I'm like HELL YEAH FINALLY <3 it's like there a happy feeling want to celebrate this moment (lmao why I'm like this) when they are in relationship, the ML very warmth to MC, from he never come to MC's home or go to MC and never tell... more>> MC his plan to always come MC's Home, even sleeping to MC's bed as if it's normal ? And he become always say his plans to MC omg I love his development. Seems neutral but there is a development

Make sure to start reading with uchuuji's retranslations! The translations by the first translator don't make a lick of sense.

This is a heart-warming slice-of-life drama about family and familial love. It has the theme of loving your family unconditionally regardless of what they look like, what they might be, or what they have done in the past. It is very well-written and focuses on the characters and their bonds as well as what choices they make for the sake of their loved ones.

This series is well-written and evokes empathy... more>> for the MC as he struggles through life and takes care of his blind, aging grandfather and baby nephew. <<less

I read all of the translated chapters-- started with the most recent translations that have very good English, then went to the earlier translations because they have more chapters done.

Don't read this if you're looking for a fast romance -- this is a protagonist-driven story where the MC goes through life at his own pace and only just meets up with the ML after a number of chapters. If you're interested in a heartwarming, family-driven story, though, this will be right up your alley. The most gory chapters almost made... more>> me cry with emotion and family love, and I had to skim quickly through some paragraphs to make sure things ended well after a particularly heart-quickening kind of arc.

DON'T BE DISCOURAGED BY THE 1-star ratings, this is seriously good, the ML appears late but the relationship between Ji Huan (MC) and Black Egg/Hei Dan (MC's baby nephew) makes the wait more tolerable and is already good enough. This is seriously good. Don't worry everyone this is an HE. Enjoy!

Heartwarming story. The story starts out not so attractive but getting better as it goes. Very good story and background setting, the writer created the world and it's resident very well. Characters have a dept to its which draw you to the story.

This story doesn't have a lot of action or romance. It focuses on the everyday life of MC and Black egg, how MC raise his nephew to be a very good boy, and precious family bound.

MC is great. Very charming character - kind, honest, upright. I like how... more>> he treasures his family.

ML start out as heartless but warming up along the way. He's quite a tsundere and likable.

Aye has a big heart. He raises two children beautifully. I like the story of MC and Aye very much.

And Black egg is such a good boy.

All in all, good heartwarming story that's lift your mood. <<less

So good. Soooooo gooood.

If it was difficult to understand from the above sentence than I will repeat and say that it's really good. The novel follows in a gradual manner. You can see the way the MC progresses through the hurdles in the unknown supernatural world and the Black eggs gives a lot of fluff.

I avoided the novel before because of its bad rating but it doesn't deserve it at all.

Very mysterious and intriguing premise. Really goooooooooooood and makes you want more. Once you read a chapter you would want to find out what's going to happen next. The author is good at giving the audience a cliffhanger. And TBH I jump from chapter 72 to the last 3 chapters just to find out what's going to happened to this not so normal family of Ji Huan.

Ji Huan is such a precious child. He loves and care for his family and those who showed kindness to him no matter who... more>> they are---- no matter what race they are. His driving force is his family so he treasures them so much.

The book's romance is really slow burned since I guess the author wants to focus more on the characters struggles on how to fit in on the world that would both accept his not so normal family.

Nothing much for me to say since I'm still reading it (and skimming till the last chapter lol @me) but the author's writing is great, and Chuuji's translations were good as well, tho it's sporadic but their reall smooth flowing imo.

So 4.1 for now. <<less

I honestly am loving this novel so far, those people who rated it one star I think I can see what you are disliking but since none of you have written a review on what you dislike, I'll go with the ML (look below). I used to avoid novels whose rating was below 4.3 and boiiii am I glad I decided on reading this, it literally made me reconsider my novel selection thingy (the 4.3 thing). It influenced me to give lower rating novels a chance, at first I thought... more>> I would hate this and those that liked this novel were crazy. But OMG I fell in LOVE with it, I went in with a negative approach and came out a complete fan!

Also regarding the one star thing:

At the part I am at the ML seems to be AGAINST the devils, like the organisation he's part of is killing and experimenting on them, while MC is just trying to live his country life with his devil fam. And then the Mc's fam devils get captured, guess that may have put off some people as the ML allows this to happen with FULL knowledge that MC's fam is in his organisation's dungeon/lab (The ML and MC have yet to fall in love and are like closer than acquaintances but less than friend? Kinda) Still as*hole move tho

A really intriguing beginning. The translation starts off a bit raw but as the chapters progress they get better. The MC is a bit slow, but seems to have hidden talents. The interaction with the sister was interesting as well, but tragic too. I hope someone picks up this novel as I would enjoy reading more and being able to see the little black bun grow older.

This is the 2nd novel with a long chapter that I never skip in every chapter. I love it! The growth of every Charachters. Kinda a warm family story with a little subtle romance. You'll love it. Funny and a Lil bit cute horor scene

I actually forgot about this novel and found it when I was going to delete some of my unlimited tabs on chrome. At first, I thought it would be the same as the fluffy slice of life story next door and oh boy, I was so wrong about it. This story was so heartwarming and deep. Like the other have said, this story put more emphasis on familial love. How MC take care of his nephew and his grandfather, how Hei Dan is a good and cute kid, how ML... more>> eventually move from heartless to loving but not so subtle MC and etc. I love the plot, worldbuilding, and ofc the characterization. I wished that the author would tell us more about MC's sister and his brother-in-law tho. Overall, this novel is great and I really regret it that I left this story behind (._.)
