[Marriage before love, chasing after wife in a ‘fire pit,’ 1v1, both pure] [Gentle and cool ophthalmologist vs. deeply emotional playboy nobleman]

Lin Yuxi used to think Zhou Yanjing was a flirt and emotionally detached, but after they got married, she realized just how heartless he could be.

She thought Zhou Yanjing loved her, but in the end, she discovered it was all just a self-deceiving joke—he had loved someone else all along.

When their three-year agreement came to an end, she left behind the wedding ring, moved out of the marital home, signed the divorce papers, and made no further entanglements.

Everyone thought Zhou Yanjing didn’t love Lin Yuxi and that their divorce was inevitable, only waiting for him to reunite with his childhood sweetheart once the divorce was finalized.

But later on, they kept waiting and waiting…

I usually hate reading crematorium stories like this; the chasing, second chances bore me and make me feel that the characters tend to be written with s*upid reasons. Authors always write the typical miscommunication/ misunderstandings that cause MC and ML to drift, hate or have unrequited love for eachother and it's never anything new.

It's the same for this novel. Which is why when I first started, and read finish the first 2 chapters that just came out, I wasn't expecting myself to write this review. Is there anything to review... more>> as of yet? Nope, but the premise and how it starts is interesting. I just wanted to say out my thoughts.

Spoiler

MC and ML are exactly like the summary says; they live in the same house but live in different rooms. Each time MC displays care and concern, ML brushes it off coldly and cruelly. It's so obviously evident that their marriage looks dry, sad and discontent, that even an idiot can tell they aren't happily married. It doesn't help that ML is from a wealthy family, so the rumours that spread about the couple in the circle is very shitty, and is usually targeting MC, often mentioning that MC doesn't know how to be a good wife and should just divorce and leave him.

But no matter how much they don't act and look happy in the marriage, both characters aren't disloyal at all. ML actively shows off his engagement ring to make girls back off, and MC doesn't care nor pay attention to anyone that acts unkindly to her. She definitely has male suitors, but she doesn't give them any attention. As a reader, you know they are married for convenience. So watching them treat eachother this way isn't surprising. And neither to the characters themselves feel that it's surprising.

[collapse]

I'm just surprised at how refreshing this novel this is. Not at the MC, but at the ML. Crematorium stories always write ML to be a shitty red flag who if isn't abusive, is a playboy who f*cks multiple women outside of the marriage they are in, or is a cold bastard who has no feelings because they have a shitty past. Sometimes it's even all of the above. They always start with no redeeming qualities and it infuriates me because they feel so 2d. Literally nothing makes me feel that they deserve the MC because of the sh*t they pull at the start.

In this story, ML somehow respects MC by keeping his distance, even though he can treat her quite coldly. Sharp tongue does he have, but he knows he is married, so he doesn't go around f*cking others. He is actually smart and not brain dead and knows what he should and shouldn't do. Which is why I'm staying. I'm actually quite curious if he ACTUALLY has loved someone else, or if it's a misunderstanding, cause looking at his attitude I don't think he does, but I could be wrong.

For once, the ML doesn't make me feel that he is an underserving piece of shit, and that he stands a chance with the MC. I look forward to the grovelling and chasing part, and the reasons why all of this is even happening. I have hopes.

Edit: Hmm, idk if I wanna continue. I don't like slow burn, and we are chapter 50 in. Just progress of them divorcing, not yet going to the later part of the synopsis. If you don't like waiting, definitely don't read this. <<less
