I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about as the only thing I can agree with them on is that the Translator does a good job. The Novel (at current) is hosted on Wuxia Forums and it makes it easy to navigate as you can read up to 3 or 4 chapters per page as long as you skip the comments that show up as well. The stats the other reviewer mentioned isn't game related but evolution related, it's not to much of a spoiler but the author... more>> equates growth in strength as "times this many men" so each time the MC and his group evolve their strength, reflexes, immunity, focus, stamina, defenses, senses are all times x of this many men.

This novel is a pleasant read as you don't get a passive relationship between the MC and his sister she isn't just background or their for comic relief she and the companions he may gather in the future have their roles to play. The MC also isn't an invincible genius that gets along every situation perfectly of miraculously. You can see that although there is luck in a portion of the MC's encounters the majority is skill and experience. The story itself is a little iffy as to how it juggles around the topic of how the MC is a lone student with x amount of money and how the sister casually accepts the brother explanation without question and he can seemingly do no wrong in her eyes along with her noticing the HUGE personality shift in her brother but barely a question mark is raised. Other than that the story is actually pretty tight in how the evolution system works. It doesn't take much to understand and the only thing I do not like is how troublesome taking the 'next step' (replacement for a certain term in the novel) requires such a troublesome process. I've only read up to 20/27 because this seems to be a turning point and as releases are a bit slow I will stockpile some chapters before picking it up again. Its actually way too early to be reviewing this novel as I actually don't know if I like it but the comment by the user TWINGLETWILIGHT was a bit vague and I wanted to clarify some things and explain for those actually interested in the novel. I most likely will not be updating this review in the future. I might be back to give it a star review once it passes the 50-100 mark though. <<less

It's okay. It's kind of interesting, but the writing quality is very poor. One of my biggest problem with this novel is the MC's personality. He trusts people very quickly and believes in things without any evidence. Sometimes, when the author tries to write something funny or creative, thing go in the wrong way and the novel will get more worse. Too many loopholes, a poor and unclear power system, and too many random things. When you read this novel, you will always ask "why? Why" but the author will... more>> not give any explanation. This novel is written by a beginner writer, so don't expect too much. <<less

Here, you got the typical cold hero who isn't straight out OP. Just kidding.

All other characters are way too bland/blank. I keep having the feeling they only serve to enlighten the hero's strenght.

It starts ok, but character development is Very bad, and until now is Just grind, and the story is too focused in the action and It gets repetitive. But what made me stop reading was the third party member. He's introduced running and leaving a horde of zombies to MC and his sister to deal with, while he runs for his life, any sane person would not Trust someone like that in your party since he made you a sacrifice for his safety, but MC accepts him because "he's interesting",... more>> and worse this character does not stop complaining and bad mouthing MC and all his actions are childish. After that MC leaves his sister, that cant defend Very well, Alone with this dude, he Just meet and cant Trust (and he's clearly sexualy interested in his sister) in a f*cking zombie apocalypse. WTF he lived 10 years in a zombie apocalypse with this judgement? Go read dominions end the Idea is Very similar, but much more well developed. <<less

I really enjoyed reading this. I've read similar novels like this, but I enjoyed how Dark Civilization distinguished itself from the crowd. WARNING, SPOILERS BELOW
... more>>
Spoiler

There are some similarities to other similar books. The MC suddenly wakes up back on the day it all began after surviving the apocalypse for years, the MC takes advantage of his future knowledge, the MC IS on the path to becoming OP as you might expect. All these are presented in a way that is OK and makes sense from a character's point of view, rather than just wish fulfilment. After all, anyone with a large amount of knowledge of things that would benefit them would use it, like how the MC know it would be beneficial to have the evolved create DNA injected sooner rather than later. The MC isn't perfect either. Even with his future knowledge and his skills in combat (from surviving years of the apocalypse), he's almost died so far. It's not all relying on his future knowledge and he doesn't have the intimate future details for everything (at least, not from what I've seen so far), unlike some MCs who end up having the intimate details on events that let them swoop in and take all the benefits for themselves from a situation.

Now, for other things I liked. I really liked how Evolution and mutation is handled, with variety and interesting differences. It doesn't read like a wall of info, but leaves stuff for your imagination. For example, there was a single sentence on rats that had bloodhunger rats, plaguewind rats, and tricyclop rats. It went into some detail on bloodhunger rats and didn't go into the others, but you can imagine what abilities/differences they might have with names like those.

I liked how the MC isn't perfect. He gets wounded, he nearly dies, and not everything goes his way. As of v2c7, his sister is discovered to have last stage leukemia and he is desperate to try and cure her, no matter how small the chance and how dangerous it will be for him to go out and try. He's shown this care for his sister multiple times, so it isn't just pulled out to twinge emotions and such, which is nice. His sister also has some character to her, she isn't just a weak little thing to highlight how strong the MC is. She's kind-mannered, not s*upidly so, and willing to try and help out her brother fight zombies. I also like the kind of person the MC is, personally. Some novels in similar situations have their being cruel/ruthless from their years of brutal survival, abandoning those that are not personally important like a family member/close friend. The MC is cold-mannered, but has treated others decently and his sister helps keep him that way.

All that said, I wish it was still being posted/translated. I'd love to read more.

A truly good novel. I give it five stars cause as far as I have read the protagonist is not tr*sh. Being tr*sh means to use power for personal gain, drowning in lust e.t.c. Protagonist simply uses power to protect his family. The only bad thing is the update is so slow. Through this novel I have learned an astonishing fact. Ant, what we usually look down is such an incredible creature. A recent study shows ant can withstand pressure 5000 times greater than its own body weight.

The protagonist was okay at the start, but man is he annoyingly sentimental. I get that he miss his friend and family, but after so many chapters of him talking about them and how everything is for them it gets too annoying. He is also probably lowest IQ protagonist I had ever seen in these apocalypse story and the others are even lower than him. As why did he have to build a base? Why bother recruiting talents? Literally why did him have a base matter? As people he save... more>> are literally worthless and contribute to nothing in the story. He should had just slaughter everyone and kept their DNA then rebuild his civilization later. As he save them time and time again while they are just there to be saved. He should had just kept a small team of elite instead of a wasting time with the base or saving people. As the number of people are worthless in the story just like in any Xianxia novel.

The point is you kind of feel his action are totally meaningless and make you wonder why bother to care if any of these people die?

The author is also wasting chapter length talking nonsense about how spiritual power work. He tries to make it mystical and such, but he just comes off as talking nonsense just to increase word count.

Then there is the cultivation system and world setting that is just a world of different hat word as every civilization just come off as Xianxia sect. Which basically mean they are bunch of useless people who has no agency beside being the protagonist stepping stone. As they gather all these civilization throughout all of time in earth history within the ancient world, but nobody seem to bother thinking of getting stronger or work together to defeat the dark creature that destroy them all. From top to bottom and bottom to top. While all other civilization just squabble with each other the dark creature destroy civilization after civilization.

The story is basically just a mediocre Xianxia novel playing dress up in a apocalyptic setting. <<less
