Aha! Finally something that's worth reading. I mean the previous chapters? What the hell are they. Just pills, pills, pills and pills. Now it finally gets some thrilling fights with some mysterious creatures getting involved. Looking forward to more plots like this. I mean, this is a cultivation novel, so pls. Pour more conflicts, more fights, more unexpected twists and turns on me!!!

Well, I have to say the protagonist is a bit lame at the beginning, with no spiritual root nor a good aptitude for cultivation. But at least, he got some luck, well too good a luck. He accidently came across a robbery for a gold seal and somehow got it with the two sides involved killed. Then he was framed by his senior brother and somehow got a hidden herbal garden with numerous precious herbs... then to the adobe of an ancient cultivator, he plundered again many great things that... more>> would help him in future cultivation and alchemy. Well, I have to say that the male lead is a bit too lucky but I do not mind it at all. Instead, that’s the part I like best. I mean, no spiritual root, no special talent, the MC at least had to have something he could rely on... and he later lives up to such luck and made great progress. <<less

very typical start but I did like it once he got into the sect and was off on his own. I like the alchemy and cultivation parts, and the adventure, but not so much with the stereotypical family drama and all of the recent face-slapping. On the plus side, the MC hasn't acted like a total shounen idiot, though he is a little too impulsive and self-righteous at times. On the minus side, other than the pill making this is a very average series with an unbelievably lucky MC. Not... more>> a bad read, but not great.

and on a mostly unrelated note; there's one grammar/ wording issue that is really driving me nuts, given my anthropology major

Spoiler

I think it's unintentional but sometimes the translator uses the word abode and sometimes they use adobe and in the later chapters, I saw 'adobe' used exclusively.

'abode' is a home or place of residence. I.e. "That's our ancestors' abode."

'adobe' is a type of clay used to make sun-dried bricks and tiles, usually in arid/ desert areas. I.e. "This Spanish Mission was built with adobe bricks and tiles."

I know the words look almost the same but the meaning is different so please pay more attention to your editing

The strong points are straightforward plot and fast paced action. The pace is a bit slow, but for a normal novel it’s not so bad. But yeah if you don’t have patience or are looking for something more entertaining, then don’t read it. If you want to read a best novel, then read this. If you want to read fast food type of novels, then avoid

I'm really intrigued by these new chapters. Finally something that's worth reading. I mean for the previous chapters, the MC just refined elixirs, took pills to cultivate then refine more pills to take. Kind of boring. But getting to the new chapters about his adventure in an adobe of an ancient cultivator, plot gets more thrilling. The restrictions, ghosts, demons, mysterious plants and herbs... and finally there are new characters getting involved.
