Straightforward review:

  • The translation quality is quite poor. Here's a list of why: personal pronouns (gender is confused on a constant basis), random repeating sentences, and ruined fluidity (fluency is constantly disrupted by incorrect verbs).
  • The narrative of the story uses simple language. Descriptions are sorely lacking, so you'd better have a good imagination.
  • Chapter release consistency? Consistent chapter a day - the translator is reliable.
  • Protagonist's personality? Evil? No. Ruthless? Yes. I can't say anything more, as it's far too early. Will he act his age as a supreme being? Or will he instead behave like a Japanese isekai insert? *To be updated.
  • Dan (Chinese alchemy) : The first arc involves alchemy, but from personal experience I would say it's going to be quickly forgotten in the near-future.
Personally I think a lot has gotten lost in translation. The translator has clearly missed a lot of intricate xuanhuan elements. If there's ever a editor, or proof-reader, this novel would be brilliant, but to me so far, the only redeeming aspect is that the protagonist is extremely decisive. I'm tired of indecisive weak MCs.

Actual rating 2.5/5.

A novel that is better than I expected, but is overall mediocre.

The summary pretty much describes the plot. A super old dude (cultivator) tried to break through to a higher limit using special means, but it sent him back in time (so soul transmigration) to his own teenage body.

Now, the plot is very generic. Basically the dude wants to make his rural family OP because they died early on in the previous timeline, and he was lonely after long centuries. That's all that basically happens: MC doing stuff... more>> to grow in strength (recover strength depending on perspective) while fostering his family.

I kind of like MC. Why? Because he fits the bill. He does act like an old lawful evil alignment cultivator. On the one hand, he's ruthless and kills right and left, and on the other hand, he's experienced, doesn't make rookie mistakes, doesn't act like a teenager in heat (to the point I actually want him to a bit xD), generally acts mature and doesn't fall for or pull off stuff like oh-I-tried-to-kill-you-but-I-am-a-beauty-so-you-won't-kill-me-right. Moreover, he was an alchemist in previous life, and he uses alchemy extensively in the novel. He's not one of those ret*rded MC who used to be an alchemist but don't really use alchemy anymore, unless it's needed as plot device.

The problem is that nothing much really happens aside from MC fighting, taking part in competitions, quarrelling with people and killing them, and killing people anyway. After 400-500 chapters, it gets old. After 1000 chapters, it's pretty boring.

I'll admit frankly that one of the reasons I read it was harem tag. Unfortunately, there isn't much harem or romance stuff.

Spoiler

To be exact, MC only has one girlfriend over 900 chapters into the novel. There were plenty of love interests early, but he didn't care, being busy with cultivation and fostering his family. The good thing about her is that she isn't an empty vase, and is actually useful to him, but still, he's a young girl, so it feels a bit weird with MC being an old man in soul... Anyway, there's no second girlfriend until chapter 1140 at least, and it doesn't feel like ther'es going to be one soon, either. As a harem/romance, this novel has little to offer, and it's a pity because it'd liven up the story a bit.

[collapse]

Love interests in general aren't great. Well, there's plenty of them, but few of them really get an in-depth characterization, and I find it hard to care about any.

Other characters are pretty much the same. They feel sort of like passersby in MC's life and his climb to the top, and there are few exceptions.

So overall, it's a kind of good story to kill time, but it gets really boring with time. <<less
