Daddy, I Don’t Want to Marry!

I’m Jubelian? The daughter of the duke and the villainess of this novel?

I managed to avoid my death with some previous knowledge about my life, as this was my second time at it. Now, I should be able to live a peaceful life!

“I’m not going to marry a man unless he has everything. I want the most wealthy, famous, and competent man there is.”

I dreamt of a glamorous life as the daughter of the duke, but my father tells me the Crown Prince who is known to be a lunatic is to be my husband! As an extraordinary measure, I couldn’t help but start a contract relationship. That is, with a handsome side character that looks better than the main one.

“Why are you trying to avoid being engaged to the prince?”

“He’s scary. I heard that he even kills his own entourage if he doesn’t like them.”

A few days later, the prince sent a terrible letter to me.

“I will not kill you.”

Oh no, did I set up another death trap for myself?

To start, do not trust the description of the story. You can think of it as something utilizing certain aspects of the story, mainly the romance between the Crown Prince and the protagonist, to attract interest. However, you can understand that this romance does happen, but not how the description describes it.

The plot centers around a woman named Juvellian Eloy Floyen, a Duke family daughter. One day, Juvellian recalls her previous life memories on Earth only to realize that she lived as the villainess in a novel she had read... more>> before her death. For two years, she chased after the "main lead, " acting out against any woman that had come near. Realizing her folly, she immediately breaks up with this character. From then on, the story revolves around her relationship with her father and the crown prince. With her father, she believes he does not care about her. In reality, he cares about her but struggles against the nobles' dark politics. Meanwhile, she believes that the crown prince is a commoner under the father's tutelage.

This story is one with many misunderstandings, especially between the main protagonist and her father. However, these misunderstandings are heartwarming at times as one hopes that they eventually clear them up. There also exists character growth for the crown prince. He has lived his life as a cold, heartless individual, surviving the royal family's threats, and slowly changes upon meeting the protagonist. I believe that this is a good read and will continue to be such. One thing to keep in mind is that the translation quality drops after chapter 37. The original translators lost the official English license to another group. It seems like the new translator struggles to make sense of many sentences, and obscure words keep popping up here and there to the point it is hard to understand what is going on. I am unsure if it is confusing to others as well. I would still advise that you give it a try and hopefully enjoy this story as I have.

Give a like if you like this review. I often see the review pages topped by reviews that should not qualify, only hoping to throw around opinions and hate. I am glad that this isn't the situation for this particular novel. <<less

This story is really in-depth and interesting.

You'll like this story.

Especially the ML and MC interactions

But personally I liked the Father the best

(A bit of a spoiler abut the royal family and hero (Hero is not the ML, he's the one who was the ML of the original story, the one who rejected the MC))

Spoiler

The original male lead of the story the MC read is kinda a scum soooo watch out.

The Emporer and that are scums as well too.

Not the princess though, so don't hate her~~

[collapse]

(Spoiler about the Father and MC's relationship)

Spoiler

The MC and her dad have a lot of misunderstandings and a lot of cases of miscommunication. In reality, the dad actually thinks of the MC as an angel, a goddess but just has (A ton of) trouble expressing this love to her. Another reason the Dad 'avoided' his daughter was because the scum Emporer kept using her as a mean to threaten him (Essentially poking at his weak spot), not only did the Emporer use the MC to threaten the father but others as well. The father's way of protecting the MC from getting assassinated was to distance himself from her. He loves his daughter to the extent of scaring every living man away from her (except for the ML, the ML wasn't afraid of the Fathers might). He thinks all men are not worthy of her hand in marriage, he didn't even approve of the ML. The dad gets real jealous when he sees other boys trying to get all smug with his precious daughter, he once got jealous of the ML 'hugging' his daughter (He was just helping her up after she lost footing) and was like, "How dare he hug my daughter, I've never even hugged her!!!". The Dad is so funny and cute, he's my favourite character as well```~~~

[collapse]

So far it's a really good story and you won't regret reading it.

I read it here, but it's not been translated to English yet and it's not free -

A major plot point most readers miss, but which makes a massive difference, is that this is NOT an isekai. Our main character is and was the person who did all the terrible things her character did as a "villainess", and lived through all of the experiences of her early life.

She did, however, wake up one day remembering her past life as a middle class peon, wherein she had read a book containing the plot of her current life.

With this new knowledge of what will happen, she falls out of... more>> love with her AH boyfriend (who mistreated her and lead to her early death), has more gratitude and appreciation for her lofty position after recalling how crap being middle class is, and stops being clingy for affection. This makes all the difference.

Anyways, because she is NOT a transmigrated character, but the original one with new knowledge, the biggest plot "hole", (her obliviousness to her father's growing affections,) makes far more sense.

For one: she lived through all of his neglect herself and felt the crushing emotional devastation it caused her. Which means she really isn't open to his sudden change of heart. It also means she came by her emotionally stunted self honestly, since the Duke, who has the emotional awareness of a rock, is her biological father and the person who raised her.

ETA: the story is retconned in later chapters to instead be a regression fic. Which makes far more sense and fits much better, but is inconsistent with the earliest chapters insisting it's a reincarnation/ remembering a novel one. <<less

I really love it. It's probably because I have daddy issues that I'm enjoying this so much but I definitely like it a whole bunch rn.

I also think it's smart that they switch perspectives every once in a while so we can see how the other characters see the situation.

I saw this novel's promotional manhwa and started reading this novel, but when it got dropped I realized it was completely translated by a very kind user already on this novel's thread in forums. I also posted spoilers on this novel's spoiler thread and where to read the completely translated novel.

it's a very funny and heartwarming story, has some very funny misunderstandings and some sad parts. I really liked the plot and characters. the plot had some very good isekai settings, and the characters all have a personality and they... more>> all play they're role in the story well. and most of all I really liked the romance and cute interactions. overall I give this a ★★★★★.

(Edit: now I'm currently reading the adapted manhwa and the art is amazing, I'm very happy that it got a manhwa and all the characters are like how I imagined them to be. the manhwa is very funny and Max and Regis are extremely handsome.

this novel and its manhwa also got licensed and are being being officially translated, so make sure to read and support the official english release to support this series :)

the novel is licensed by WordExpert by the title "Daddy, I Don't Want to Marry!" and the manhwa is licensed by TappyToon by the title "Father, I Don't Want This Marriage"

I'm also reading the new side story that got released after the manhwa came out and it's about

Spoiler

Beatrice gives birth to a baby boy named Patrick.

and it shows the love story of Regis and Amelia (Juvel's mother) and it was sad.

but this side story also had funny moments. Juvel and Max and their kids are also as cute and fluffy as always.

[collapse]
)

Here are spoilers about the story, click at your own risk.
Spoiler

the MC Juvellian lost her mother at a early age and always wanted her father's attention. but her father the duke, Regis was always cold to her and never payed attention to her. so she grew up to have the typical villainess personality. then Mikhail will be nice to her only because she is the duke's daughter but he was the first person to be kind to her so she will cling into him and he will only start dating her because she's the daughter of the duke. and the rest goes as the promo manhwa said. she will get a second chance as a ordinary girl in korea who does part time jobs and finds out she was a character in the novel where she was a villainess. then she will be isekai'd again and will get a third life as 'Juvellian' again. so to turns out all of it was a misunderstanding. which really made it sad a tragic. The emperor was a greedy and cunning man who was controlling Regis and using him to eliminate all of his enemies. And when Juvel was a child sends assasins to kill her mother. regis was controlled so he couldn't save his wife. when Juvel comes he will think regis was the one who killed her mother and is scared of him and gets depression and some mental problems. Regis doesn't want to see her suffer and makes a deal with a sealed magician who was the first emperor to erase Juvel's memories. regis actually really loved her and was very overprotective of her. he even stalked her lol, he only wanted her to be happy. the only reason he treated her coldly and avoided her was because he didn't want her to be scared of him again, the reason he didn't show up at her coming of age ceremony in her 1st life was because he was being controlled by the emperor to go kill some guys. so in this life Juvel totally gives up on getting his attention. but they end up getting closer and later when juvel finds out she's really sad and she wants to protect her father. there were some really cute father-daughter moments. Juvel and Max's relationship was also really cute. Max is the ML and he's a tyrant crown prince who is also regis's disciple. in Juvel's 1st life the reason he came to where she was prisoned was because Regis told him if he helps juvel he will help him in taking the throne, the sword regis gave juvel was to protect her (it was some protection relic) but she took it the wrong way and killed herself. after thta regis went crazy and destroyed the whole empire and killed everyone... which was really just sad. so in this timeline he will get a nightmare of his memories in 1st life and vows to not repeat that tragedy. in this timeline Mikhail gets a very dark obsession over Juvel.

[collapse]

so the villains in this timeline are the emperor, the empress (in her last moment she will be good but then gets killed by poison thogh) , Mikhail, Phanphil (the first emperor who was a magician and got sealed).

the end of the novel kinda felt like I'm reading a magical girl's novel because it turned out,

Spoiler

Juvel actually had magical talents and she was a magician chosen by goddess! so the goddess chose her a a magician so that she can seal Phanphil completely, but in the 1st timeline she killed herself and regis destroyed everything. so the goddess gave Juvel a second life and the novel was also from the goddess to give juvel information. the isekai'd her back to her body again so this time she won't die. another reason that she got a second chance was her father, Regis. Regis had some kind of inherited relic that granted you one wish for the price of you life or something. after destroying everything Regis used this relic and wished that Juvel will get a second chance and will be happy or something. so the misunderstandings get cleared later. she ends up becoming very good friends with Princess Beatrice (her nickname is Liche) who was the FL of the original novel and max's sister. so there was some funny moments of them fighting over juvel. juvel ends up making they're sibling relationship better. so she find out Max is the crown prince but is not scared of him anymore and loves him.

[collapse]

so in the ending

Spoiler

The emperor gets manipulated and killed by Phanphil. Liche was actually a mage. so with the help of Liche, Regis, Max and Juvel and the knights they all seal Phanphil. Max inherits the throne and will be th emperor. Liche will be granted the title of grand duke and they will also make a tower of magician's which Liche is in charge of. Liche will end up with one of Max's knights, Victor (his real name is Kaylen) and he was actually a runaway son of a marquis. so he will go back to the marquis becaus ehe loved Licne but because he was a commoner he couldn't confess, but when he goes back he will get the Max's knight commander title and he will confess to Liche and they marry in the end. so Juvel and Max also get married, they will have two cute children. A princess with red eyes and white hair named Alice, and a prince with dark black hair and blue eyes named Franz. so the side chapters were really cute

[collapse]

forgot to say Mikhail gets killed by max in the end (Juvel doesn't know about it). there was manny fluff and funny things in this novel, I wouldn't mind re-reading it again and again. there were also some sub-male leads in the story but in the end they will give up and only wish Juvel happiness. <<less

This story is one of my favourite one's so far. This was more on the realistic side but a bit fiction as well compared to the other villainess novels. Let me review my thoughts in this novel:

  • I like how it started of where her situation is more realistic compared to the other villainess novels like when it started after original owner commited and did wicked acts instead of transmigrating before like the other novels.
  • I love the mc!even though some say she's a bite of a duts she still has some good sides!like where she's calm and knows when to retreat.
    • I like how interesting the plot is from mikhail getting the taste of his own medicine and father and daughter misunderstandings (I love how MC doesnt get influenced by the feeling of being ignored by the father) to MC and ML meeting which got my blood boiling of excitement!all the plot has got you interested but though there are some parts that I dont like though.
    • Firstly, I don't really like where Ml's love for MC seems a bit forced like when he just suddenly feels like doing this and that, suddenly having heartache out of nowhere even if its the second time he has seen MC and more feeling that just suddenly got to him.I just wish that they could atleast get to know each other more it just seems a bit weird to suddenly go I will kill you to I will love you.
All in all it is very interesting and is good if you want to pass some time. If you have a fetish of reading villainess-stop-loving-guy-but-guy-suddenly-still-want-the-villainess or father and daughter misunderstanding and secrets or an ML where we can finally read his thoughts.

There are several scenes that made me tear up a bit.

Also, I want to point out how the introduction of the male lead is so smooth. I love his first meeting with the female lead, it was so interesting, refreshing and unique. His character development is, by far, the most satisfying I've ever read.

The relationship between the father and daughter is frustrating and funny at the same time. Whenever their thoughts wander completely opposite of each other, it brings pure comedy.

Fair warning: this is a story about misunderstandings. If you’re the kind of person to scream “just talk it out”! At the screen this story will be miserable for you I’ll admit it. However, the misunderstandings are primarily used as a dramatic irony sort of comedy most of the time.

Most misunderstandings have logical reasons behind them too, even the mc’s original “ending” you can see after reading enough was a horrific misunderstanding. Her father at times tried to hold Juvelian at arms length out of fear the corrupt emperor would... more>> have her killed just to spite him (and does try to actually), the same one subjected his son to assassin after assassin until he didn’t know how to care for other people, on top of really terrible politics and social convention in general. Sometimes it’s convoluted, but those just made me laugh. Most of the characters have traits I can see in others, being too headstrong, being too careful with your emotions, being just a terrible boyfriend, and the side effects of emotional neglect.

I have to say it made me laugh a lot! I’d recommend it to others who I think have similar tastes. It’s a story though where I can see very clearly why people would dislike it though. I can imagine for some people it must be a very painful read rather than funny or cute. <<less

I can see why people are interested in this novel, but as someone who has read more than a hundred web novels with more than a dozen similar to this (you can check my reviews here if you don't believe me lol), this one doesn't really stand out. A lot of the problems in the novel are based on misunderstanding. The FL doesn't even bother knowing the current situation outside of her life when she woke up. It's also really annoying how the author focuses a lot on these misunderstandings...... more>> From the start, this novel didn't really have anything special besides reincarnation. FL doesn't really have a strong resolve or anything. It's meh. The communication between characters are really boring. <<less

This book is hilarious in its own way. Though a lot of readers have been complaining about how the MC interprets a situation, which I understand but not really. I mean the Father is hilarious and a walking ICE refrigerator. Max is just a Confused Tsundre who is trying to figure out his emotions. Mikhail thinks he is the BEST person in the world. The Emperor is just a self-centered, BRAT in the entire world. I want to kill him. And the MC is Protective of herself.

I hope everything gets... more>> better!! <<less

The misunderstandings was cute at first but more misunderstandings keep piling up one after another. And it doesn’t help that the MC doesn’t get over the misconceptions about her father, even though he’s genuinely trying to communicate already. My biggest gripe on this series was the ML, I really don’t like him all that well... The daughter-father duo are misunderstanding each other while the ML knows the whole truth. He doesn’t really help the situation at all, more like he’s adding to their problems like a jerk. I don’t get... more>> how easily he fell for her and how much of a big attachment he has already? You barely know the person dude... He started acting pretty possessive earlier on too despite lying to her face lol.

I was expecting some cute father daughter bonding but the ML really ruined it bye. <<less

this is a whole story of misunderstanding over a misunderstanding after misunderstanding on a misunderstanding to the point it's gone annoying already and the ML is obnoxious never even bothered to be honest nor was he even kind to her and the FL just takes it all that sht. 2 stars for the translator's effort tho, she made the story is easy to understand.

It's one of the best stories I've read recently. While the premise is nothing special, the characters are very likeable.

There are an abserd number of misunderstandings in this story. Of the villains in the story, three are completely unlikable, while one is kind of tragic. I think they're all pretty well written.

My biggest complaint about the story is about the MC's friends.

Spoiler

I really like both Rose and Beatrice (her two best friends), but once Beatrice enters the story, Rose is barely mentioned anymore.

If recommend giving the book a try.

The beginning is fine. But There's only so many misunderstandings I can take before it becomes really annoying. None of the misunderstandings are fixed and they just pile on and on. It makes me really mad that I can't rate this any higher.

The dad is cold and awkward. The daughter is a helpless pessimist. The ML needs to get trained on human interaction.

If you enjoy misunderstanding stories this is the best. I don't even care about the love triangle the real triangle is the misunderstanding between the three main characters.

Juvellian: Reincarnated daughter doesn't want to die like she did in the novel and tries to create a bond with her cold and distant father. Suddenly finds a list of bachelors on her dad's desk with the mu*derous crown prince circled and fears a forced engagement. So she creates a fake relationship with her father's secret student to prevent it.

Duke Regis: Stoic father... more>> who believes his relationship with his daughter is going great now fears she is being tricked by the crown prince, the worst bachelor in his opinion, to blackmail Regis into following the prince's plans.
Spoiler

ok I will admit Regis relationship with his daughter is a bit more complicated due to the king, especially when Juvellian was younger, so they are very stained from each other. Regis has been trying very hard to do better but he isn't a "people person" so Juvellian has a hard time reading him

[collapse]

Maximillian Hachette: Vengeful prince suddenly regretful about his bad reputation after he catches feelings for his teacher's daughter like an idiot. Has insight about the father and daughter misunderstanding and hopes he can use this fake relationship contract to win over Juvellian before she finds out he is the prince. <<less

I wanna mention I've read the Manhwa of this only, and upto ch 78. And also that I made this account purely to write this review. I'm a hater at heart.

I knew this would be cliche and full of piling misunderstandings. I always read reviews before reading. And since I knew this, the absurd level of misunderstandings really did not bother me.

What bothers me was just how painfully boring this was. Readers, nothing happens, ever. Just when you think somethings is gonna happen, the two guys, —because the 2 guys... more>> are the only characters capable of having any conversation about the plot— suddenly, overdramatically, start talking about how "you can't have jubenal!!" and "no I will!!!!". Have these men considered taking to weed and chilling out? No. Never. And jubenal. Shallow, empty, passive. She's not an active participant in her own plot. And not because she's depressed from her abuse, no because she genuinely too s*upid to even realizer something bigger is happening.

These men, they love jubenal. Why? I can't tell you, jubenal never did anything. I understand the dad, obviously loves jubenal. But for every other character, I just want to say, why? She's hollow. She's a tiny, petit, helpless s*upid character who thinks she all that. But when something matters, she just sighs, blushes and let's the men handle it. She has no power, whether is be soft power, intellectual power, political power, magical power (so far), nothing! Even if she had nothing she could be intelligent, qeild politics in an interesting way. Fight against the emperor, but she says she will, shes sooo determined! But when the time comes she does nothing. And the story leaves her hanging, looking silly and s*upid. I'm not saying she needs to fight, she doesn't at all. But physically fighting isn't the only power a character can have, other webtoons prove this. Even her kindness and optimist could be a power but it's not! She not nice, she's pessimistic.

And you could say she's like that because of her past trauma. But the story, at every step, undermines that trauma. She was neglected (a form of abuse) and became so depressed at her worst, she chose to end her life. Without knowing how much her father loved her. So when she's brought back, and suddenly, for her, her father is nice to her for no reason. She should feel confused, a little hurt, resentful, wonder why. What changed. If she can even trust him. She could have complicated feelings. Feel as if maybe her father really didn't like her personality. She could think how sad it is for jubenal. But nope.

She's just cruising thru life, not critical thought, head empty. A passive helpless damsel with no autonomy of her own. The platitudes with mikhail fall flat because she doesn't defend herself, get angry about being "owned". Her boyfriend does. He gives that lecture.

TLDR; Jubenal is hollow and empty. Not an active participant in any of the bigger plot. Bot even the romance plot. The men are too dramatic and like her for no reason. They like to own her, lay claim to her. And that can be romantic sometimes, but since she's an empty character it feels icky. She's like a doll to them to fight over like animals. And this them includes her father btw. 0/5 🌟

Phew glad I got that out. U can go I ain't reading all that but it feels truly good to let this all out. <<less

But again, why does in the past her father gives her dagger when she got lock up ? And what does crown prince trying to do this her at the jail ?

Reading this, I think after she killed herself, his father must been really sad. Because in his pov, he look like someone who cherish her so much. But just, why can't you just tell her something father ? Why ? It's kind of stress to see this all big misunderstanding, while we know the truth by each character point... more>> of view. It feels like "father just tell her you love her""juvel just give him chance!!""max just tell her you're crown prince" and so on. But I'm still happy. Got long way more to go !
