It was good at first, the heroine with the curse was cute the MC wasnt too bad and was just starting his training to get fit. But then one day he sees that the games protag is getting attacked by monsters and he uses his skill to temporarily become skinny to kill it. The game protag falls in love till she sees him switch back to his fat self which she is disgusted by and starts bullying the MC really bad, beating him up. Its also made very clear she... more>> is getting off on being a sadist. As for the mc? He cant feel the pain and if she keeps hitting him he will get a trait/skill. So he yells at her to keep hitting him. I can easily see where this story is gonna go from here. The plot will somehow keep justifying why the game protag keeps beating the MC up and he takes it. If you like this kinda thing thats fine, but I was sold a false bill of goods. This is a far cry from the cute dependent clingy villainess novel I was promised. Its a completely different tone and I hate this kinda stuff. <<less

TL here:

@Galacta_Knight's point only lasts like a chapter or 2 (gave up too quickly lol)

... more>> Academy - Yandere - Romance.

Basic premise is MC becomes a fat npc who isn't really mentioned in the story other than the bad ending where he dies.

Our MC is a fan of the villainess characters and attempts to help them when he sees they need help while trying to strengthen himself.

But, one of the defeated villainess' is completely dependent on him and seems like this sort of theme of dependence will continue with later chapters creating a very obvious yandere-bound plot.

If you like yandere and don't mind, the mentally bad aspects/reasoning of yanderes you'll enjoy the series.

The series itself hasn't uploaded many chapters yet with raws around ch 30.

I'll be uploading once a day at least until close to raws. <<less

This novel has issues that none of the other reviews even mention. So I guess I’ll have to be the one to talk about them.

After having read 46 chapters and almost being caught up to the current raws I can say the story genuinely starts off as a 9 out of 10 but the problem is that the pace of plot progression never slows down. Nothing is ever given proper time to build up. The author does not actually know what he wants to write about. It degrades to a... more>> 7 or even a 6 out of 10 later.

Let me elaborate, the MC has been sent to the body of Ken. So, what happened to original Ken? We don’t know. But then later there’s scenes which leads to ‘higher immersion from Ken’ which makes the MC lose control of his body and revert to actions that Ken would have done. So if immersion is high means Ken the NPC has taken control. This is also the reason why the MC is not affected by the fear debuff from the heroine as mentioned in the synopsis. A mechanism that is never brought up nor actually questioned as to what does it even mean.

So the good part is that the MC does not treat any of the other characters as NPCs. Right from the start he treats them as people. Now the bad part is that it doesn’t seem to matter either way because the characters are somewhat two dimensional at best while everything else about them is lacking.

Its an academy novel but not a single professor or a named academy staff exists. Hell, the teachers might just be cardboard cutouts, they are not even mentioned in the numerous attacks that happen in the academy. Everything is handled by the MC and his gang.

At the start of the novel the MC says he doesn’t know too much about the game. Then later he acts as somewhat of an expert, using strategies to skip events. However now the problem becomes- despite knowing every event that is going to happen in the future he does not talk about any of it till the event has already started happening. In one event the outcome for which is a literal game over, the (game) protagonist is trapped and just happens to encounter the MC who manages to solve the event. This is despite the fact that the MC actually has a good relationship with said protagonist. He never even says to her that “if you’re caught in a weird scenario come to me, I can solve it. “ The author also constantly forgets who the protagonist of the original game even was. Because in a different more mystery-based event, the MC acts as if the first mu*der must happen for the mystery to be solved. And once he realizes he’s the first target he uses a scroll of delayed revival so he comes to life. But then he did not even tell anyone how to figure out the mystery using the clue from his supposed death. The other characters literally stumbled upon the correct solution.

Then the MC remarks that this was a frustrating mystery in the original game and because it led to the protagonist’s death and multiple restarts its why the devs added the item to skip the whole event. Maybe he could have given a hint to one of the trusted characters, which he literally could have done except he only tells her that he isn't truly dead and then peaced out from the plot. Then later he remarks that this one character would be the next target. Did the author already forget that the next girl is literally the game protagonist and her death would mean a game over/ worst case scenario? So why is he risking the unknown delay after his own death since while he’s incapacitated the protagonist could be in danger and he couldn’t do anything about it.

The world building is also sorely lacking. Its not the sort of ‘it’s a generic world just fill in the blanks yourself’ its more like ‘there is literally nothing there in this world’. Even more so than a bad taste this leaves a nothing taste in your mouth. Things would be mentioned to exist at the moment they become relevant. No sort of power level or items or anything at all gets explained. Convenient and insanely powerful items like this ‘scroll of delayed revival’ I just mentioned exists, except they only work for that one hyper specific event. So what even is the point? There’s a lot of these event specific key items too that serve no purpose in the actual depth of the world.

Anyways now I realize I haven’t talked about the good parts of the novel. I did somewhat mention it but it’s the characters. The MC has a decent and actually pretty good relationship with all of them. The bullying/ masochism / whatever part is overblown, the novel itself actually just plays it off as a joke. <<less

The situation with all the heroines except one seems too forced. This is probably for those who enjoy the masochistic treatment and still simp towards the same person tormenting them.

Spoiler

This reasoning is basically for the og MC Emily, who used to hate fat people due to some past trauma, thus leading her dislike towards MC. One day, MC uses his skill which burns calories and gets temp power boost and gets lean to save her, she falls in love with him, but after skill usage, he turns back to fat. Now the trope of "i hit u cuz I like u" begins. Emily humiliated and beats up MC, which the MC didn't dislike at all as the beatings seem to provide him with resistance traits. So in order to make us empathize with Emily to include her in harem, they suddenly trap her in a time loop which seems to be the og game event and make her suffer a bit. It should be understandable if the MC is kind and wants to help those in problem regardless of the past. But everything goes out of the way when he suddenly proposes to her that he likes her... And he just confessed to another girl just a few days ago with the same lines..

Mind you, MC actually had a favourite character, a villainess from the og game raphne, whose turning yandere towards MC was kind of justified because of a very potent curse (everyone who comes near 50m of her radius range will suffer extreme fear, MC is exception). She too bullied him in the past, but it could be understandable cuz of her relatively long suffering and perks of being MC favourite.

Honestly, Mary the best FMC up until now, takes care of MC and helps him when he suffers/ed from other two FMC.

[collapse]

I don't really mind masochistic and simping characters, but the side characters to whom these tendencies are being depicted upon could be portrayed more vividly, and not just some one D character where just cuz u suffered a bit, everyone will forgive u.

But still I'm reading it cuz it is what it is. I just like transmigration in game/novel genres, and I read em all :p <<less

Good story and following a kind-hearted dense protagonist. He probably knows romance, but considering he is in a fat chubby character along with modern aesthetics, he can’t believe someone wants him.

So far pretty good, I like it. So far theres 3 girls, 1 heroine of the game and 2 villainess. 1st villainess is the red hair girl/main girl whos yandere and the other villainess is still stable and doesnt like MC yet.

Only con i'd say is author constantly bringing up r*pe threats of the red hair yandere girl coning close to using her skill to trap MC and r*pe him. I don't like r*pe and this would be even worse if the roles were reversed.

Overall 5/5 (i pray the heroine... more>> or the male lead cool guy aren't reincarnated individuals to and used as antagonists for our MC, the most overused cliche in these reincarnated otome novels) <<less
