I was the daughter of a wealthy merchant, married into the Marquis’s household to ward off bad luck.

On the first day of my marriage, the old Marquis choked to death on his medicine.

On the second day, my sister-in-law drowned after falling into the water.

On the third day, my brother-in-law fell from a horse and died.

A month later, the entire Marquis’s household was dead, leaving only me and the young Marquis.

We stared at each other. The young Marquis initially wanted to divorce me to save his own life.

Unexpectedly, before he had the chance to finish writing the divorce letter, the Emperor sent an imperial edict ordering him to the border to fight against the enemy.

As expected, a month later, a servant brought back news of his death.

Romance? Hardly existent.

Drama? I guess.

Comedy? 9/5 shenanigans and silliness

FL is a complete airhead except when it comes to wealth, playing into her merchant origins. It was nice that she only had that one spurt of intelligence. Having her be a secret genius strategist/martial artist would've been too cliche. Events happen around her, and she unwittingly stumbles into the action thanks to her terribpe sense of direction (f*ckin real)

ML (in disguise) seems jealous of his memorial tablet every time FL cries for her husband, which is GOLD (just like the tablet, eyyyyyy), but I might be reading too much into it

[collapse]

No regression, rebirth, or transmigration, which is always a welcome breath of fresh air

Predictable, but this didn't follow too conventional of a plot, so it was still enjoyable

5/5 I had a lot of fun <<less

If you’re not a fan of Crimson Translations - why not?

if you are a fan, you will know that they publish shorter works which tend toward quiet personal tragedy and the aftermath. I love these stories, but they can be a bit of a downer.

This one, however, is very much a comedy. It leans a bit slapstick with the assassins taking a few substantial whacks, especially the lead assassin ... more>>

AKA protagonist’s husband

enjoying the taste of the protagonist’s husband’s heavy memorial tablet more than once.

The tone of the story is light and loose, with a focus on the protagonist’s wacky thought process. There is a political subplot, but it’s not fleshed out since we have to rely on her knowledge and understanding of the situation which is negligible. She’s an airhead who is really only interested in business and back of house affairs, so the larger picture outside the home is limited.

It’s a bit unclear if the protagonist is truly unaware of the hijinks going on around her, or if she’s an unreliable narrator. In any case, by the end of the story the protagonist has bent the assassins to her will and comes out the winner.

This is one of the few stories that made me laugh out loud, and the author’s imagery is great. The final image in the ancestral hall with its filial depiction of the golden sculptures

is one that makes me snicker every time I picture it.

All in all, a fun read that requires no tissues — unless you need them to wipe your tears of laughter. <<less

The female lead was a rich girl from merchant family who married into Marquis family. After marrying, several "misfortunes" happened to members.

Spoiler

Turned out that Marquis family faked their d3aths for political reason. Also, they thought FL was spy but she's actually loyal wife.

[collapse]

FL was only good in business... but on other things, she's "air-headed" but her personality added comedic tone in the story.

Got low rating bc too many plotholes especially with these political conflicts.

This story was supposed to be a comedy but idk, I'm still quite sad for MC.

Spoiler

She was pregnant and was left alone in the marquis residence because everyone suspected that she was a spy. I don't know whether it's necessary or not to fake death or to pretend to assassinate MC since the author didn't elaborate much on the implication behind the scene but still, I think MC was quite pitiful.

I even feel that it's better for her to pack her bag and live a new life somewhere after everything's resolved. I mean, she's pretty, capable, and rich. She could go anywhere.

[collapse]

However, I also admit that this story was quite funny but it would be better if some things could be more detailed, especially about the political struggle behind the scene. <<less

This is a good comedy. Oblivious MC, excellent writing and translation to make the audience much more aware than MC.

Don’t stress about the physics inconsistencies, just enjoy the chaos.

Spoiler

Also lots of plot twists. It’s all good fun.
