What is cultivation? When I think back to the past, cultivation was, as a baby, kicking my legs over and over again—kicking on the bed, kicking on the ground, kicking every single day. Cultivation was, as I grew older, swinging my sword again and again—slashing here, cutting there. Cultivation became, as I matured, the repeated harmony of yin and yang—busy tonight, and busy again tomorrow night. … My name is Xu Ming. I have never cared about the stipends given to me by those sect masters, noble ladies, or princesses.

I said to her, “Can you give me a room closer to yours? I need to report my work to you at any moment.” Even if I accomplish nothing every day, I just want to watch how she cultivates. I…

This one is a hidden gem in a see of tr*sh.

BEST GIRL: ... more>>
Spoiler

In my opinion, as of c300, it's a tie between the childhood sweat heart, the empire's princess and the saint of the western demonic sect. The last one has a strong "I can fix her" vibe.

[collapse]

Translation: Good, very readable, nothing to report.

Plot: Classic MC gets stronger and collects "pokemon". Although written a bit better than other tr*sh novels.

Setting: In a cultivation and martial art world. Starts in an Empire, then goes to some village and cities, then a sect, etc.

MC: No psycho, no pe*vert, no incel. Hard working, genius with system. Always faces death head on like a true GigaChad.

Side characters: Very well fleshed out. Have their own thing going on. Some satisfying redemption arcs.

Long rant ahead:

I love Wuxia/Xianxia/Martial Art novel because I can discover a lot about Asian myths and culture, and take a break from the European setting.

But recently the majority of new novels with a male protagonist are just s*upid wish fulfillment tr*sh with either the naive, hypocrite son of destiny MC, the just as hypocritically dense "MC villain", or just a psychotic, pe*verted, downright incel MC. Side characters are no better: either you are a jade beauty for MC's harem, or a villain he will trample on later. Sometimes the author will add cringe lines like "I only protect those I care about." or "The strong prey on the weak." to justify MC's hypocrisy and long list of mu*der. Overall, with those novels you must turn off all your brain cells to even get past chapter 1.

I am not saying that this novel does not make those mistakes. Even a diamond will get dirty if it comes from a see of tr*sh.

What set this novel apart is that it feels good to read MC's actions. First he is not a psychopath nor a pe*verted incel which is a good start. Second, even if he has a system, he doesn't take it for granted and still trains hard, so as a reader, when he wins his battles, you feel like he deserves it. Sometimes he has moral grey moments, but unlike the tr*shy hypocrites MCs of other novels, it really feels like he weighs pros and cons before making a decision. Though, sometimes it still slightly hypocritical.

For the side characters, finally some diversity. We have the usual jade beauties of course, but each one of them is unique, have their own conflicts, past and want. We also have many interesting male characters with goals that can only accomplished by them while MC is just there to help. Even characters that we thought were villains got fleshed out into redemption arcs.

In short, good novel. <<less

Since I ended up actually liking it and there is only one other review as of now, I decided to write one myself.

Story: Since description says little of what this story is about, I will describe the beginning in a few words:

MC reincarnates in a martial arts/cultivation world as a concubine's son born on the same day as two female chosen ones with godly talent, ... more>>
Spoiler

One of them being his "half sister", in quotations because as the story goes on there are more and more clues that they are most likely not blood related

[collapse]
In comparison although MC has a system and starts training super young (literally training while he's stil a baby) he still has a hard time catching up to them once their talent is revealed. He spends most of his time training. MC doesn't immediately become op, instead he has to put in a lot of effort.

The story is decent not anything revolutionary, but progression is satisfying and characters are likable.

Main character: He has a system, but it doesn't do much, most of the time it only shows stuff like for example strength +1 when he exercises. Very rarely it gives him skills or anything similar, it happened only about 4 or 5 times until now, with 2 of them being in I think chapter 1. No status window or anything like that. He has to train himself and really put in effort, the system doesn't make him instantly OP, just increases effects of training and even with it, his power level is still below most female leads.

Future female leads: I'm highlighting future, because as of where I am they are still kids and their relationship with MC ranges from close childhood friends to "I wanna marry you when I grow up" kinda thing. Any actual romance will probably start when they are a little older. MC is kinda dense, but then again they are still kids and don't know a thing about romance, he thinks their feelings for him are a childhood crush and they will forget about it as they grow up, although for a reader it is obvious they won't. Their characters are overall decent with each of them being different. Most FLs are geniuses who become stronger super quickly and skip multiple realms, most likely to show the difference between them and MC who actually needs to put in a lot of effort, although not all of them are that op with some being more similar to MC level-wise and having rivalry with him or beating him up like certain goose.

Side Characters: They are good, there is character development for quite a few of them and they don't feel like a throwaways.

Martial arts/Cultivation: It's well put together power system with each being somewhat different, but having advantages and drawbacks. MC having realized that his talent in any one of them is good, but not insane like Fls' so he decides to master both of them. Unlike them however he has to take it step by step, instead of skipping 2 or 3 realms in a row like they do.

Pacing: It can be called slow, as of now MC is still only 11 years old, but it doesn't really feel like it's dragging. It's overall well-paced.

To summarize it's rather good martial arts/cultivation story, this one in my opinion is one of the better ones out there. I'd recommend trying it out. <<less

This is a biased review so take it with a pinch of salt.

Overall rating: 4 stars

I started reading this when I was on a brainless xuanhuan madness that takes over me every few months. I went in with absolutely 0 expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

First things first, the reason why I am hooked to this is the insane update speed. The translator's pushing out a chapter every four hours. I don't know if his family is being held hostage but at this pace, I'm sure he will get them back... more>> in no time.

Now, moving on to the more serious and less biased parts.

You'll thoroughly enjoy this if you like a well-paced xuanhuan with a good amount of focus on power ups. The MC has a system but it doesn't make him broken. He puts in work like a madman and it's a breath of fresh air.

The MC is also likable and isn't a psychopath nor an incel. He has a good character and he faces the challenges that's in front of him in a reasonable manner.

The side characters also go through a significant amount of growth. Not just in power levels, but also emotionally and intellectually. The antagonists are not a "copy + paste" of characters that spawn randomly to be face-slapped and give xp.

The characters have depth and their interactions makes the world feel lived in. But with that being said, the world building is one of this novel's weaker aspects. The world setting is a very standard xuanhuan setting. It's the "if you've read one, you've ready every other" kind of setting.

Overall, it's a very fun read. There are heartwarming moments sprinkled here and there, and the plot progression is steady.

While it won't take your breath away, it's better than 90% of xuanhuans out there. I'd definitely recommend it. <<less
