Disclaimer: Past chapter 38 I've been reading MTL, but unless there is some major reoccurring error or missing context to change something then these are my opinions up to chapter 50

I hate every character around Wakaba and nothing this story does from this point on will ever redeem them in my eyes. Daiki's side of the story is whatever at this point. If I had to pick good or bad, Daiki's POV is leaning more towards good I guess. Whatever is building up right now will probably decide my overall... more>> opinion of the story so for now I'll give it 3 stars.

Major spoilers about why I hate everyone around Wakaba (up to chapter 50) :

Spoiler

Every single one of her "friends" in high school is apparently a part of the cult of Shiraishi. They repeatedly ditch the two of them to be alone together and every time so far she has come back to the group angry but they keep giggling and doing it because Shiraishi asked them to. But the worst part is they are helping to isolate her from Daiki even though she's shown them she was worried about them drifting apart. Her "best friend" literally told Daiki to ignore Wakaba's calls and texts because he was getting in the way of Wakaba's romance while they see her getting depressed about him not responding.

Daiki moves away and rarely comes home to visit at this point. It is known to everyone in their friend group that Daiki and Wakaba have been really close friends since elementary school. Yet, one of the rare times when he shows up to go to a festival with everyone, they send Wakaba and Shiraishi solo without asking Wakaba. She again gets mad at everyone of her "friends" because Daiki is gone by the time she gets back together with the group. Once again none of these people care what she wants and make her walk home with Shiraishi.

Later on, Wakaba gets asked out by Shiraishi and before she can reject him he cuts her off then runs away. Shiraishi then asks Wakaba's "best friend" to nudge Wakaba into accepting and to put even more pressure on Daiki to keep his distance and she agrees to help again. Wakaba tells her "best friend" that she wanted to reject Shiraishi but she tells her that maybe she should just go out with him since she doesn't hate him... She clearly said she didn't want to date him. She wasn't unsure or conflicted about it, she clearly said she didn't want to date him but her "best friend" keeps pressuring her to date this guy because he asked for her help.

Lastly, Wakaba right now is planning to go to Daiki's culture festival to visit him. Shiraishi is already planning to tag along and not let her talk to him as much as possible.

TL;DR: Vague potential spoiler about why I hate every character around Wakaba:

Spoiler

Every "friend" around Wakaba is basically trying to isolate and gaslight her.

I have a very hard time reviewing this novel. As a preliminary matter, I am a fan of ya_ne (the author), and even translated two of the author's other stories just for fun (from the 結婚を考えていたけど series). I definitely recommend them. First, the style is pretty distinct - the story is told in a very staccato manner, with short, targeted lines of 3-8 words. I think this is intended to convey the ideas and emotions in a simple, direct manner - but that is just a guess. As a ban*l... more>> analogy, think about the story being presented in lines of haiku, without adhering strictly to such a grammatical form. (Please note while I love soafp and their translations, this aspect of the story form gets a little bit lost in the translated version).

In terms of plot, this is a classic "misunderstanding" story. The male MC goes through some traumatic events as a child, and the female MC (osananajimi) promises to protect him. But as you see the characters grow up, its just angsty watching them grow apart. You can't really blame one character more than the other - the female MC is dense, and the male MC just makes mistaken assumptions. It gets to the point that, as a reader you become resigned - basically losing hope that anything can turn out well. (Note that the series is still in progress so we have no idea how it will turn out).

With that said, I don't think it is a spoiler to reveal two tags from the original publication of this story on the Kakyomu web site that are not reflected here in the novelupdates tags that may give insight on whether this is worth reading: "ハッピーエンド" (happy end) :-) and "NTR?" :- ( (to be clear, though, "NTR?" is a separate and distinct tag from "NTR") <<less

story not too bad wouldn't give 5stars but I found it nice for reading while just passing time, I saw someone say I hope MC ends up with shion or whatever her name is and I agree. Also I understand that the MC is traumatized and I understand that his childhood friend wakaba is dense asf*ck (MC too btw) but the reason for him being traumatized is really bad I mean if I was him I don't thinks I would've ended up like him his mental strength must be like... more>> 25/200.

well anyway u should read it if u wanna pass some time or don't have any novels u wanna read atm, if you're looking for something serious than skip.

have a nice read!👍 <<less

I need to start off by saying, I have never ever in my life left a review on anything I've read.

If I enjoy something I continue reading it, if don't I just quietly leave it behind.

This one time however, I have to say that I have never been so frustrated with a story so much in my life. At the start it was fine, the set up is decent and the writing isn't bad. However the longer you continue it becomes more unhinged. Honestly I enjoy a "misunderstanding" story, but... more>> this one goes on for far to long seemingly trying to dig deeper and deeper to find some new way to make the viewer frustrated.

The more I read the more often I found myself asking the author to just get on with it, although with a lot more swearing thrown in.

Hoesntly I think this story could have been closed off earlier, just because a story is short doesn't mean it's bad. If you feel like reading something to make you grind your teeth then go for it. I know it may sound harsh but I literally decided to write this review out of spite. I don't think the authors writing style is bad and I do think they have some talent. It's just this story in particular was extremely annoying. <<less

Among all of Soafp drugs, this one by far is my favs.

The spoiler below is what I feel towards each character as far as I read (c54)

Spoiler

Daiki is not wrong for being sooooo reserved about his love considering his past

Daiki's parents aint totally wrong for divorce and remarriage stuff, three of them were forced to do so due to respective families situation, although it ended making Daiki personality like that

Wakaba is not wrong from being "stubborn" about her love and ended up thinking Daiki as lilbro because she was being taught like that since the beginning

Shiraishi is not wrong for loving Wakaba due to her kindness, I mean, everyone has their right to loves someone right?

Chika (Wakaba's close friend) is not wrong for not realizing Wakaba true feeling toward Daiki and decided to support Shiraishi x Wakaba

They are all not wrong by any means, it is just the cruel world forced them to misunderstanding each other

[collapse]

And now, what I would like to see in the future

Spoiler

As you guys knew Wakaba (osananajimi) and Shion (New heroine) are both working to loves Daiki in their own ways.

What will Shion going to do after knowing Daiki true personality if by any chance Daiki talk about it?

How about Wakaba? Is she going to have a chance to talk to Daiki? And how she will respond about Shiraishi confession?

How about Shiraishi? As he already confessed to Wakaba and finally going "violent" way by telling Daiki not to be involved to Wakaba although indirectly

How about Chika? After realizing true feeling of Wakaba? Does she will continue to support Wakaba x Daiki? I mean, she even goes as far working together with Shiraishi by telling Daiki to stay away from Wakaba

This is not a well-written novel, but it's an easy to understand novel. The translation is fine, but the source material is in question. Basic, straightforward lines and dialogue with one-dimensional characters about someone too damaged to talk about his feelings and their love interest who's too s*upid to understand theirs (or to say no to an aggressive creeper). So they just feel continuously hurt throughout the slow story progression and short chapters. The tragedy setup is drawn out and tedious. Think of it like a reality TV romance tragedy.... more>> And, as with all over-dramatic reality programming, it's more authentic to hate the author than to hate the characters. I do believe this particular novel intends to be controversial until the ending, at least, in order to draw in angry readers.

If you like angst from trauma and a bunch of s*upid misunderstandings driven by an easily hateable supporting cast, this novel is for you. It's easily digestible, so fuel your outrage and read on. I do think, however, that there are better novels in the genre. On the same site, even. <<less

So far it's really good, and from my experience this type of story does happen a lot, and I personally more or less experienced it as Daiki so it also bring old memories. I was playing "one more time, one more chance" from 5cm per second the whole time.

Spoiler

I can't really blame them as Daiki is already cracked and Wakaba is influenced by how Daiki cope with his situation in childhood, which result in how the story unfold. Ren also not in fault as all fair in war and love, at least until one side says no. Though it was so annoying that Wakaba's closest friend doesn't see Wakaba past her looks.
