One day, while Lin Chen read a book, Xing Cong Lian said to him, “You’re a psychologist. Can you help me find out what kind of person is suitable for me to marry?”

Lin Chen remembered telling him love was the most immeasurable thing in the world. Even psychologists couldn’t predict love, because its progress in two people’s lives had countless variables.

What variables?

Lin Chen thought, at the time, the first variable was: You’re just an ordinary police officer who liked eating crayfish at the stall with a bottle of beer. I didn’t know you were…

Or: I didn’t know when I fell in love with you or when you fell in love with me.

Nature has blind arbiters. Who is to decide the limits of morality and the nature of human?

Absolutely splendid novel, extremely well written and whatever the author wanted to portray was done so perfectly. Criminal psychology, as lazily named is it may be, may have been written on a spur of a moment; as said by the author herself, it was wrapped up perfectly.

Pros:

PLOT:

    • This is a novel with a message. You can't call this your typical crime novel because it isn't one. This one delves deeper into philosophy and psychology and can get very deep and heavy. It makes you contemplate about many things regarding the concepts of altruism and selfishness.
    • The different stories, or arcs were all written intriguingly and the suspense was palpable. I'd have to agree that the thriller aspect is extremely vivid in this one.
    • The plot twists, my god. Well, rather than calling it plot twists, the unpredictability is absolutely insane (more specifically Lin chen's actions- I'll elaborate more in character)
CHARACTERS:

    • I can't help but scream when it comes to this aspect because- human. So so human, extremely realistically written, an overpowered psychologist who just knows what's going on? Perhaps at the start I may have been skeptical about it, but as I went on it was crushingly obvious. Lin chen was just human and nothing more. He feels so much and you just want to give him a hug. He was such an unpredictable character, not because his actions were 'jaw-dropping' but because he was a sort of enlightenment, he showed me human nature and he showed me another side of being a person, one I could never consider as an abnormal person.
    • Xing Conglian- the ML, kudos to breaking typical stereotypes, it makes me want to cry how supportive of a man he is and how professional he can get. He's such an embodiment of the experiences he's been through and it shows. The character development is amazing whether it's him or Lin chen (even Huang ze) Every action he does as a perquisite (like It can get tiring to see the ML act immature as hell for absolutely no reason at all.)
    • Side characters. Huang ze, Song shengsheng, Xu ran, Fang Aizi, Shen Lian. Huang weiwei, Duan Wanshan (oh dear), Duan Yang (We love wang chao and su fengzi but they're explained enough) Such complex and beautifully written characters, there's no black and white, like Oscar wilde said, people aren't good or bad just boring or charming, and god all of them are charming as hell.
ROMANCE:

    • I don't even want to yap about this because this is the Ideal relationship.
    • Boundaries respected, every damn thing I overthink about, addressed and subtleties? Perfect. I think less is more.
    • Just how can they be so good god
Cons (not really) :

    • Well, I do have a few points I'd like to point out. First beginning with the message and genre of the book itself, like mentioned above it's not a crime novel per se but much deeper- much more psychological. Which is why I'd like to point out that unlike the usual crime novel this isn't about the criminal, it's about the victim, the bystanders and the motives. If you aren't interested in these in depth philosophical aspects then I'm not sure you'll enjoy the book as much as others. While I'm not too sure about how much jargon was too jarring to read because I've done psychology courses before and also have deep interests in philosophy. There were many places where I reached the same conclusion even before Lin chen. (Genovese syndrome, crowd subconsciousness e.t.c)
    • Addressing the 'unsatisfactory' unresolved feeling of the text, once more I think it's just a preference thing. This book was one that spoke volumes to me because, I, though not as severe have an abnormal brain as well with sociopath tendencies, no criminal is born a criminal. This book highlighted how much of us want to be 'normal' while I also deeply relate with the criminal side, it was really a mixed feeling.
    • Finally, Lin chen and Huang ze, I've written a bit too much but let me elaborate on these two. Many felt they could've been done differently, but I digress. First, it's clearly mentioned that everything is
      Spoiler

      one sided

      [collapse]
on Huang ze's part, he feels a mix of emotions and each of them make perfect sense. When Fu hao mentioned what happened, I already pretty much guess what Lin chen 'did' so all his actions felt almost selfless to me, why? Because of trust. Those subtle smiles, everything meant so much. But once again Lin chen is just human and so is Huang ze, think about how emotionally impacted both of them would've been.
    • Lastly, due to the fact that it was different stories meshed together, the pacing was fast and the psychological impact was huge, and we can clearly see that on the characters so I don't see how it's a con but oh well. I feel like I need to make an 'Out Out' reference here, life is oh so fickle! You can't control fate's pace.
In a lot of aspects, this takes one of my top spots, I'm someone who needs some sort of psychological mind-f*ckery in crime novels, purely because I can guess the plot every single time and that's really annoying, which is why Lin chen was so perfect because he's like a storm that swept me away (haha) Anyway, I'm one of the minority who didn't enjoy Mo du as much, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of priest for Cancipin (my top spot) and Sha po lang but Mo du felt short purely because it wasn't enough, I predicted almost everything and it just wasn't intriguing enough. Personal rating (critic) :

6 (i cannot help it) /5 Overall: 5/5

Unpopular opinion but for me, the last arc was my favorite, the fourth arc was amazing as well, but I just felt the last one was much more deeper and intriguing as a whole.

Everything somehow points back to Lin Chen.

Criminal Psychology is one of my favorite crime novels in any language. It's got a strong mystery thread, both on the case side and the characters side, and its webnovel format also allows it the room to slowly develop the characters and relationship, while still avoiding the medium's tendency to dawdle too much. We get both gripping cases involving, most of all, people, and also a heartwarming look at a normal, found family. The language is refreshingly straightforward but really readable-- it's a kind... more>> of writing style that's honestly not easy to develop, because it's very easy to have it be bland or repetitive, but this novel avoids that. The translation is great as well. The author read a lot of books and papers in writing this novel, the list of which is actually published. All in all, gripping, realistic, detailed and well-thought out.

But what's in Criminal Psychology? Well. Lin Chen is a man with many secrets. An incredibly brilliant graduate of the Psychology department from one of the best universities, how did he end up a temporary dormitory warden in an elementary school? How did he get here, and how did he get such a powerful enemy? When Xing Conglian, a Captain put on the case of a string of strange mu*ders, tries to have him help with the case, these are the questions-- and roadblocks-- he has to face.

But Xing Conglian has his secrets, too. So he won't ask-- too much.

The novel is 310 chapters. The questions surrounding each of them both gets answered slowly, as the two of them develop a relationship of trust. And it really is a rare kind of trust and tacit understanding-- if they could firmly believe one thing, it's each other's commitment to saving lives. Even prior to them having a relationship they're living together and having very domestic lives with a teen that's like their son-- it's all very warm amidst all the tension of the cases. The two main characters are incredibly mature and thoughtful, so the development of their relationship is just great to watch.

I really recommend reading at least the first arc to decide whether this book is for you. Leaving before leaves far too many questions unanswered-- everything in this novel is more than what meets the eye. <<less

I'll go ahead and talk about what I think about the arcs in the spoiler boxes.
Arc 1: 一沙 (Ch. 1 - 17)
Spoiler

Mysterious mu*der cases happen around the city, all revolving around sand.

I personally think this case's ending is rather incomplete, and it acts more as an introduction to our protagonist and shows some snippets to the ML and MC's backstory. You can see how the MC's personality is unwavering, determined and calm, no matter what situation he's in.

[collapse]
Arc 2: 双程 (Ch. 18 - 37)
Spoiler

A skinny teen robs buses, only asking for candy and nothing else. A school's bus suddenly disappeared, where did the teacher and students on the bus go?

This Arc was starting go father deep into the storyline. I think there are a few things that might have been difficult to actually think of, like how the thief actually wanted to bring attention to a case from five years ago, but this case was really good, and the words Lin Chen said to the thief was really moving. We also start to see more of the ML's personality.

[collapse]
Arc 3: 三坟 (Ch. 38 - 88)
Spoiler

Three bodies were found, and a death live broadcast started happening in the University.

This case was kinda pulling on my heart, and I thought about it the whole day. There is su*cide and more sensitive topics mentioned in this case, so please be cautious before reading this. This case was also really heavy, with Lin Chen going deep into morales and all, but Lin Chen actually realising his crush on the ML really balanced the heaviness out.

[collapse]
Arc 4: 四声 (Ch. 89 - 163)
Spoiler

I was born in the sky, grew up in the scorching sun, and soared in the wind, never gone. Dearest girl, please don't cry for me.

-Song Shengsheng

This is perhaps the heaviest Arc out of all the cases. I left this case for the last to read since its really highly regarded in the Chinese community, and even if I'm just thinking about it, my tears are threatening to fall.

I don't really feel like making a summary on this case, and my hands are trembling just from thinking about it. There are mentions of r*pe and su*cide. Like the case from before, please be careful before reading this.

Song Shengsheng, unlike his name that means sound, has never spoken a word in this arc, but he has the most beautiful and toughest soul in the world. You can read just from the description of his actions how much he loves the world. This is a really sorrowful case, and if you ask a reader of this novel, I'm sure they'll answer you that this the best and most memorable Arc of the novel

[collapse]
Arc 5: 五浮 (Ch. 164 - 301)
Spoiler

People start going crazy from a medicine. It may have something to do with a shady pharmaceutical company?

This case started with Lin Chen and the ML starting to get lovey dovey, got broken up, then reunited again. So it starts with a relationship plot. Then the case starts after that, and it immediately gets heavy. Also mentions of Terrorist attacks.

It is absurd to divide people in to good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.

- Oscar Wilde

This Arc links all of the cases from before together and also reveals Lin Chen's past. It talks a lot about moral dilemmas (the famous railroad question, for example) , and whether "right or wrong" actually does exist. It also delves deep into society, and human beliefs. This case really leads to some deep thinking about your morales.

[collapse]

In general, these cases gave me the feel of a good mystery. You can tell the author tried their best to search for the correct information, and most of it is real and have actual examples and experiments. It doesn't give me a feel of "Genius doctor MC develops a cancer cure at the young age of fifteen", but rather an intelligent MC who isn't all-knowing (and apparently attracts trouble wherever he goes). It also challenges your morales a lot, so be prepared to think a lot after reading this.

For the romance, I'd say it's pretty balanced to read. It makes it easy to read despite the heavy plot, but the romance doesn't take over the whole plot. It's also nice to see that the protagonists don't seem to have lowered IQ after they started dating. They don't need to "protect" each other, they are strong enough to stand on their own, yet they depend and trust each other. Despite this amazing romance, I do have some bad things to say about the romance (it might be a major spoiler though).
Spoiler

The ML seems to be a control freak? Yet he does respect Lin Chen's decisions. And even if he wants to lock Lin Chen up, he doesn't. Is that good or is that bad? I don't know, but I think it's nice the ML does not impose his own ideas on Lin Chen without respecting him. A thing I didn't like was they kinda had s*x while Lin Chen was crazy (this is a really brief description). Although it's deleted in the actual version because (it's sex), it still makes me really uncomfortable. Well I'm pretty sure you won't read the s*x, since it's a deleted scene.

[collapse]

However, the plot is really complicated and there are parts where the readers say they can't understand their way of thinking, even in the original untranslated version. The translated version might have made it easier to read through, but I didn't really read the translated version (Thanks for the translater's hard work though).

Lastly, I'll borrow a comment from the Chinese readers. "This novel is something that really shakes people's hearts greatly." The thing I'm trying to express is 震撼人心, but it seems I can't find a best translation. You might have a long time thinking about your morals while reading the novel, but you'll also get tons of dog food (in the latter half of the novel), and also a bunch of tears if you're the type of person to tear up. I would definitely recommend reading this (though not in your dark room at 3 am since some readers said they had nightmares while reading this). Sorry for the bad summaries (and English). Also thanks for reading this review. <<less

i rarely leave a review, but this novel surprises me so much. I mtl-ed the rest of the chapters so I probably missed many detail things. But I can say, this novel is amazing. For me, the cases are kinda different with the usual crime storyline. But they are interesting and they point out a meaning about human, humanity, morality. It talks so much about society, about right or wrong, black and white, about how people behave or act involving many psychological aspects (and as a psychology student, I can... more>> say the author did their best to research and portray psychological aspects in it). There are 5 arcs, the arc is honestly so long. And every arc kinda relates to one another and they revolve around the MC, lin chen. And the ML, xing conglian is always there. He's like lin chen's shield and both of them have this trust and mutual understanding. Xing conglian always supports lin chen's decision, because he believes in him, even if he doesnt fully understand but he knows, what kind of person lin chen is and the only thing he can do is to protect him, to make sure he's safe.

and for the romantic story. It's slow burn, but we can clearly see since the early stage how they care for each other. And it's so domestic and warm (they are like parents with one son) and it's so nice and warm to see their story even from the start. What I really love about this novel (beside the cases) of course their relationship. I can say, their relationship is so close to my ideal relationship I have in mind. It's so realistic, it's so simple, but it warms your heart. Walking around and looking for breakfast, chatting during a long journey, kissing, hugging ㅡthey are so many simple acts that I really find so lovely. Both lin chen and xing conglian are mature. They dont demand anything from each other, instead they keep on giving everything they can give, yet both of them dont feel like lacking anything. They respect each other, they dont try to pass the boundary, but they care so much that they are willing to wait for each other to open up (and still without knowing anything, they put their trust on each other).

it's like, finding a home to comeback, to let you tear up your mask, and there will be a person who will offer you their shoulder and say; "You are not alone. You can lean on me". <<less

★★★★★ [4.5/5 stars]

Seek truth, be kind, long for beauty, and fight against humanity's innate animal nature to the end. This is human nature.

This novel is one of the best crime/detective novels I've ever read! It's always so good to read detective cases that involves human psychology. And because I loved the TV series 'Criminal Minds', it's not so surprising that I've fallen in love with this. Especially when all the cases here are interconnected and it all comes back to the MC, Lin Chen.

But I gotta say, the fourth arc... more>> is my most favorite arc in this novel. It was the heaviest and hardest to read and I know a lot of the readers would agree with me. It was here in this arc where a character was introduced, a character that gave me so much impact throughout the whole series. Song Shengsheng, the toughest, most tenacious soul who didn't deserve the terrible injustice he had experienced. We didn't even get to really 'meet' his character, aside from the version of him in the videos/interviews from the past, but I would absolutely protect this amazing man if I only could. He was so strong that he endured so much all these years without a single person by his side to share his burden. He was a singer and he used his voice for a living but the irony is that he never got his chance to use that voice for help. I remember reading a line from this arc that brought so much negative emotions in me. I literally stopped reading for a few minutes, trembling and I bawled my eyes out just because of that one line, a line that made me realized how horrible he had gone through.

Spoiler

He said: "Among these screams, there is a voice that belongs to Song Shengsheng. Li Jingtian mixed Song Shengsheng's screams into his own songs and put them on the world."

[collapse]

Just the thought of Song Shengsheng, it's already making me tear up. This arc is just pure heartbreak. In the rooftop scene in the last arc, when Lin Chen was on the verge of mental collapse and Xing Conglian sent a few people to 'cheer him up', I actually thought of Song Shengsheng. If he was there, I'm pretty sure he would be encouraging Lin Chen as well. It was never mentioned but I know Song Shengsheng was so grateful of Lin Chen for discovering the truth. For him, it was never about the his shame and dignity, because he was one of the most selfless person. It was enough for him that Lin Chen dug up the truth. Even now, my heart is so heavy because of this man!!

I was born amidst the sky, amidst the scorching sun, I soar in the wind, never going far

my dear please don't cry for me

Song Shengsheng

Overall, this is a really worth the read. I recommend this so much. For those who love novels like Mo Du, SCI Mystery Series aor other crime/detective stories, you really should pick this up. Just beware of a lot of trigger warnings. <<less

So this was a pretty good story. I give it 3.5 stars.

The mysteries themselves were well done. The MC, ML and their sidekick were well fleshed out (good since you spend most of the time with them).

The problem comes with the logic. That any romance could develop between the characters amid 6 back to back incredibly high stress psychologically draining cases is hard to see. Second. There are 6 arcs that are incredibly intense with only a chapter or chapter and a half of down time for the characters in... more>> between. (Good lord, between arc 4 and 5 they didn't even get to finish putting out the fire in the stadium before the next arc started). It's draining to read let alone the psychological toll it would take on a person. I could easily see the MC checking into a sanatorium after arc 4 for about 6 months of rehab given the toll it took on him, then suffering a lifetime of PTSD let alone ever going back to work.

The author admits that the cases that make up the first 5 arcs were written as short stories and then pieced together and it shows because the seams are stretched to the limit. Plus, the author doesn't like to show who the bad guy (which turns them into a black box-very frustrating) is or really the aftermath for the victims except for some throwaway mentions in the final arc. I understand the intent - the author states they wanted to focus on the victims IN the cases, but it doesn't really work because it necessarily leaves a lot of dangling plot threads. Personally, this was especially frustrating after Arc 4 given the nature of the victim's character, what they went through and endured. You want to know if SOMETHING good came out of that darkness.

If you like complex psychological mysteries you'll get some enjoyment out of this, just be aware that it might cause you just as much frustration. <<less

This is one of best danmei <3

Climbing on my top 5 danmei. I really like it when they trust each other and take care of each other. The cases also vary but I like case no.4 the most even though it makes me dizzy and nauseous, Shengsheng deserves better in his life.

I also really like it when MC and ML live their relationship in an slowly and steadily, ah again about ML honest about his family background too. I wasn't surprised because the hint was too obvious :p

Now wondering about... more>> MC background wkwk.

Ahhhh Wang Chao is favourite character aaaa, my baby..

One of the best BLs i've ever read (and i've seen a lot, like on the hundreds). At times a bit complicated to link, it requires all your attention to follow the storyline, even direct dialogues becomes some sorta labyrintic conversation in this novel.
Event though the main characters are the stereotypes (handsome, tall, charismatic, cute, graceful ecc...) they have a beckground, a solid foundation, an interestingly intellectual misteroius story, a curious interaction and it's really likeable not having useless misunderstandings once in a while because they actually trust their... more>> instincts and so each other (Though not really realistic).

Really like it

*edit

So there were changes, and its going downwards in my opinion, not too fast but it's declining.

As the story progresses I see the author is trying to link all the past cases into a big spider net, quite forcibly, to the point the MCs are making absurds connections that one didn't work on the plot, so us readers, would definitely not make so we notice immediatly, it's not even about the MCs godly logic but really some fantasy-like associations.

Plus all the Novels world is becoming gay, one thing that I find unrealistic and dislike in this invastigation-mistery based story is that to be as natural as possible the author studied scientific terms and their correct placement, you work so hard to make the crimes and toughts interesting, detailed in their distorted morality, but all f*cking side characters are becoming bent couples, why, why ruin your own principles and the worlds logic. I like BLs ok, but I came here for a breath of the harsh reality, gimme the whip I searched for man.

Really hope these changes are not because of some readers complaint, like I red in the comments. That he didn't change his work because of us <<less

Arc 4 - it wrecked me. I felt so invested in the newly introduced character (from Lin Chen's pov) that I fell hard for him even though we never really got to read from his pov in arc 4. Missing my Song Shengsheng real bad right now. Even my man Lin Chen is thinking about him :" (

Spoiler

I cried so hard I ended up with headaches and all cause my nose was blocked and I was technically gasping for air. As I was reading from arc 1 to technically the middle of arc 4, all I thought of is how disgusting the world actually is and also how I am learning new things. But when I saw that sentence "Among these screams, there is a voice that belongs to Song Shengsheng. Li Jingtian mixed Song Shengsheng's screams into his own songs and put them on the world.", I felt so disgusted and extremely heartbroken. Goosebumps appeared all over my arms because of how horrible I felt when reading that sentence and realising what jt actually meant in the novel. Truly nauseating 😭

At that point of time, all I wanted for Song Shengsheng was rather contradictory. I wanted him to live a peaceful life from now on but I also hoped that he died so that he is free from all this pain and suffering from the world. But as I read on and learn more about his character, how he is strong and full with hope that he can one day recover and be better, all I wanted was for him to get what he wants. To be well, happy, free from pain, and surrounded by happiness. But what did the author bring me? Just knives knives and more knives. Song Shengsheng dont deserve to end in this way! (Tho I hvnt read the part aft he died because I really needed this short break to calm myself down) While resting and crying, all im wondering right niw is if the author will be kind enough to give me a Song Shengsheng in an alt world or something where he gets his happy ending because I am DEVASTATED 😭😭😭 my dear baby Song dont deserve this cruelty...

Update - SSS is way to kind. In a way he stays true to his character but I would rather him be selfish for once in his life. But as what the translator had 'analysed', it does make sense for him to behave in that manner. For that, I respect him alot. To stay true to himself and remain good after all those shits that happened to him is not an easy feat. Anyways, I think my dear Lin Chen needs a long break and therapy as soon as possible because he already saw 3 ppl die infront of him and 1 dying partially because of him. Not that I feel that way but more like Lin Chen himself feels that he was one of the factors that resulted in SSS's death. Damn im mentally tired cuz of this arc 🥹🫠

Now that I think about it (moving on to the Dana Region arc), im actually glad that SSS killed himself before the fan meet. Otherwise can you imagine him watching the fans that he love so much get burned alive with him in the fanmeet venue? Im glad that he at least escaped from that misery... at least he died feeling that he managed to save his fans :")

[collapse]

basically if you persist till the end of the Dana arc you will be sprinkled with dog food. So cute so sweet im so satisfied :3 Anyways im glad that they are still the same after they get together but I really didnt expect our ML Xing CongLian to be this 'clingy'? Like super sweet mouthed, always wanting to be with Lin Chen and stuff like that hahahaha. Super cute tho, like reverse charm :")

And not forgetting our precious gem Wang Chao, a literal gem:

Xiao Ming's mother recalled, "We arrived at the park at 9:30 in the morning and left around 5:00." She patted her son's head and said, "He likes to stand under the roller coaster and watch the tracks, but he refuses to ride it."

"Talented children are like that." Wang Chao sighed. "When I was young, I liked to watch the tracks of the roller coaster. I thought the curvature was particularly beautiful."

This fella is as thick skinned as his dad!

[collapse]

IM DONE READINGGGG. Of all the arcs, the 4th arc, Song Shengsheng's arc was the most memorable, though I'm not sure if it's for the good or bad reason :") although our dear Song Shengsheng didn't speak a single word in this novel, I still cried for him. He left a very strong impression on me that even after reading 5 other novels, I still clearly remember him. He literally weighs the same as Lin Chen, Xing Conglian, and Wang Chao in my heart. My heart still breaks when I recall him 😭 <<less

Overall Review: Give it a chance, at least go past Arc 2 then decide if you want to continue reading or not, it gets infinitely better by Arc 3 and Arc 4 made me fall in love with it

Criminal Psychology Reviews per Arc

Arc 1:

Spoiler

a trial and a half to get through. It feels like the author is assuming that we already care about the characters when they haven't even given us the opportunity to be attached to those characters.

One way to solve this was to get a narrator that you could feel a bit for, not necessarily the MC or ML, but someone you could feel confused with by the MC and/or ML since their settings were supposed to be mysterious.

Redeeming quality: case was thought provoking and MC's backstory was interesting. I just wish that the author didn't pour out a lot of major hints immediately and instead sprinkled some inklings and subtle hints.

Arc 2:

A lot better than Arc 1. Thankfully, or I might have just dropped this. Case is just as thought provoking and this one got me invested thanks to the current case's supporting characters. I'm kinda warming up to MC and ML so long as I try to forget the first arc.

The story suddenly had a lot more feelings and dynamics. I'm not sure if it's from the translation? Or if it's just that the author got better at writing in dialogues, feelings, nuances, and interactions.

Arc 2 already started setting up some foreshadowing, but Arc 3 really confirmed that this is going to be bigger than just individual cases.

Arc 4:

Spoiler

Started out real interesting.

I'm invested! This is my favourite case so far, and the MC, ML, and the supporting characters have all grown on me. Half of the time, I wanted to read faster than I already can just so that I could read what happens next.

Uuuuu I CRIED. THIS HURTS SO MUCH. I SWEAR THIS ARC WAS TAILOR-MADE TO MAKE PEOPLE CRY. AND IM READING IT IN MTL. THE PREVIOUS ARCS WERE BUILDING IT UP TO THIS AND I LOVE IT

[collapse]

Arc 5:

Spoiler

It really is getting better and better, this one was just as devastating as the previous arc and is even more of a page-turner since—spoiler alert—Lin Chen and Xing Conglian were separated and are both in a life and death situation.

Arc 6:

Spoiler

Arc 1 smol bean returns! So cute. So fluffy. It's cool to see the author bring back previous characters, in general, this novel has good continuity and things from previous arcs are brought to the following arcs.

QAQ I love MC and ML UUUUUUUUU WHY MUST YOU HURT ME SO THOUGH! THIS IS ABUSE AFTER ABUSE

[collapse]

Ending:
Spoiler

Probably due to MTL, but the ending left me both confused and unfulfilled. Extras were a bit of a meh. I still liked it though.

I was born in the sky, grew up in the scorching sun.
I soar in the wind, but never gone.
My dear, please don't cry for me
- Song Shengsheng

Here's my review of this beautiful story:
My expectation at first when I start this story is that Criminal Psychology will be like other criminal mystery novel with a touch of psychological viewpoint. Now, that I finished this novel, all I want to say is I was damn wrong. What this novel wants to say to us is to see how... more>> beautiful human even in the darkest situation, how their heart, their faith will not ever be broken, that everyone deserves a second chance even for a criminal. I can't explain how many ups and downs, how many tears I spend while I riding this journey. All I wanna say that never once in my life I will regret reading this novel.
Now, let's talk about the arcs (I will not review every arcs, only my favorite ones) :
Arc 2
Spoiler

I really love Fang Aizi, a little girl that lost his father in an intentional accident because of his identity as a drug undercover police. This girl is more mature that people at her age or even other adult people. Her determination to seek justice to what happen to her father just moves me to tears. I like what Lin Chen says to her at the end. He says, “The truth is simple. Your father is a martyr, and you are his daughter. You are born to live a more dignified and upright life than others. Others can hate, you can’t. Others can ask for death, you can’t. Because from the day your father died, you have lived in the glory he brought you, and you must carry on his glory and pride.”

Arc 4

Spoiler

The most heartbreaking arc of Criminal Psychology. Our main character in this arc, the one that never even once spoke in this novel, but leave a deep impression in every reader, Song Shengsheng. My heart broken to pieces for him, I cried so bad and till this day I still cried whenever I'm thinking about him. As a 18 yo boys, he have to face the darkest sides of human. He have a simple heart, but he betrayed but everyone that he trusted. Even untill the end, the only way that he can be free just by ends his own life. I'm really sure that Song Shengsheng is grateful for everything Lin Chen did and I think that he choose to ends his life because he believe that Lin Chen wont let him down. I still remember Lin Chen says in the last arc that one way to sum up Song Shengsheng is "Such a beautiful life" but for me, I think Song Shengsheng is the embodiment of a beautiful soul in this world.

Last Arc
Spoiler

Honestly, last arc is my favorite one, I really life this arc. Like everyone said, in this arc the romance began between Lin Chen and Xing Conglian but really even though it's super sweet, the sadness and bitterness of the case just make me thing that this sweetness from their relation are not enough. In this arc, I felt I learn a lot of things about human heart, moral dillemas, a beautiful relationship, a kindness in every human. I shed a lot of tears for Lin Chen, for every ups and downs he felt in this arc, how he thought that he tired because bad things keep happening and he just can't seems to stop it while everything Lin Chen did is not a thing that everyone can do it but he still push himself hard, too hard. My heart hurt for him. In this arc, we also saw how Lin Chen and Xing Conglian learns how to be in a relationship, their trusts is something that unparallel. I really love them both in this arc

[collapse]

I think that's all my review for this novel, I wont say anything about the characters cause everyone already perfect as they are. I sincerely hope that many people can read this novel and although some of you may hate it or like it, at least you already gave this novel a chance cause this novel deserves this chance. Anyway, happy reading if you just start this novel and happen to be see this review <3 <<less

An all rounded piece, really good. I liked the cases, the dynamics of the characters an the found family trope. I came here after Poyun and Poyun: Tun Hai so I was expecting something similar tbh. But after finishing, I guess I can say this novel took a different perspective on crimes and case solving.

I only wish they elaborated on the background of each characters, show us the scene let us feel. I also really wanna see the ML and his "prince" attitude hahah. Is that too much to ask... more>> for? I just wish he was a little more willful and give some of the cannon fodders a good face-slaping.

but all in all, love the book. Love our main characters and Wang Chao. Love the chubby kid and that girl who's the devoted fan of Song Shengsheng. I hope her daughter grow up well. Love Duan Yang and his teacher. Xiao Zhan as well, and I can't forget that old man with the Lamborghini and the urine bag😭😭 <<less

Each arc was so profound, seriously I got chills at times (especially during Lin Chen’s interrogation scenes omg perfection!!).

I love our ML Xing Conglian and MC Lin Chen so so sooo much!!!!!!!!!!! They both... more>> deserve all the happiness in the world. I also love our Xiao Wang and the little fatty genius kid!!!! I misssed him so much while reading and then he suddenly popped up again in the latee arcs, it was such a nice gift from the author!!!!

I never thought I could love a book with over 300 chapters but this book kept me up at night and entertained me so much!!!!! I love the psychology references too and literally I cannot name another novel that gave me literal chills during the crime scenes!!!!

I love the side characters and wish some of them had a happier ending but the way the author wrote our their stories was perfect.

To Xing Conglian and Lin Chen: Your sacrifices were admirable and your love for each other was heartwarming <3 <<less

Just finished reading! Whilst the book was something a little complicated and twisty, and hard to keep track of some details, it was a worthwhile read! Definitely, the crimes and arcs detailed in this book are THE DARKEST and most HORRIFIC crimes I've ever read in a crime thriller danmei before; like, this isn't your basic kidnapping, mu*der, revenge mystery stuff. This is mass mu*der, purposefully spreading deadly diseases, Jigsaw-style stuff. But since the novel's various villains are all clinically diagnosed to have such violent tendencies, it makes a heap... more>> of sense.

The books main focus is psychology and whether morality, or what humans consider to be 'good' vs 'bad', is real or not. I felt in this area, the author was very thorough with their discussion of the topics, and it was highly interesting (though, some might find it boring). In other ways, the pacing could've been faster; still, loved the side characters <3 <<less

patiently I've been waiting for this translation to finish thank god. Many months yes it comes to end and it didn’t disappoint me, little in the end too abrupt make dissatisfaction like still have lingering feelings of “give up” and “tiredness” that how I feel? Fortunately yess, the story itself contain a lot of journey, problem, thoughts, messages, love, support, and understanding, its a little bit hard to understand and not for a weak heart people. Highly advise if you have any psychological problems to seek help from friends, family,... more>> and doctors who are competent.

good job for translator <<less
