This story is so inconsistent!

Spoiler

At one point the 9th Prince (I'm guessing he's the ML) was compared to the 3rd Prince, which will make you assume they're brothers. There was even a part where it was said that his father, the emperor gave him poison for some crime or the other.

But nope!

The 9th Prince is the emperor's brother. So is he the brother or the son? If he is the emperor's brother then shouldn't there be some hierarchy between him and the 3rd Prince?

In Ch 29 the 9th Prince addressed the 3rd as 'brother'! I've given up hope in ever understanding their complicated relationship!

The emperor and 9th prince also have a sister (princess chengping) who's 30 and the 9th Prince and her are of similar ages (so ML is around 28-30). The FL is around 14. Enough said!

The FL's aunt (her mother's older sister) is the same age as Princess chengping (30 y. O) !

Let's address the 9th prince's titles. He's called Prince, brother of the emperor, Duke and at one point duck!

Dear translators, please maintain consistency or at least leave a note that you're changing the title.

There's also the fact that every time someone from the imperial family is addressed they use 'My royal highess'. It's cringey! The correct title should be 'His/her royal highness'.

This is my favorite part of the book:

The FL has a brother that was thrown out of the family and he owns a pharmacy in some other part of the city.

The first time she visited him from her house, she went through the city.

The second time she went, it took her so long that it was night time in the middle of her journey. She then somehow ends up in the middle of the woods, encounters a 'hero saves the beauty' plot of the 3rd Prince. She then goes on a date with him to the random plum blossom forest that shows up out of nowhere.

Like???

Let's not even take into consideration the fact that a noble miss with her position could leave the house without informing anyone, she didn't even take her close maids!

The 3rd Prince is so disgusting. According to him all women want to climb into his bed, but they all pretend to be pure. Then he uses petty tricks like the 'hero saves the beauty'.

[collapse]

This story reads as if it was another version of Ill-fated consort written by a 13 year old on Wattpad.

The only part I liked about it was the FL's communication with her future self through a diary.

If that part was fleshed out more and used appropriately, the whole story would have been so much better! I've never read a plot like this. I'll update more as I'm reading.

Update:

Never mind, I could not go on. <<less

The way the story is written makes it like it’s coming out of 13 years old. The dialogues, the actions between characters are immature. There is some novelty in the story which makes it interesting. The romance is ok, characters are clichés. I couldn’t finish the story as I couldn’t find neither storyline nor characters compelling enough for me to keep on reading

As transmigration-into-the-past stories go, this one is pretty good. Standard tropes of face-slapping, palace intrigue, and trying to deal with harmful relatives. This one has an interesting twist of being able to communicate with her future self via diary, allowing for constant adjustments as new challenges pop up. The characters are cliche but serviceable, the romance is progressing at a reasonable pace, and there are kingdom-wide events that affect the lead character, which is good training for a future empress. There's also some decent mystery and conspiracies to uncover. I... more>> would put it at an above-average novel of its genre for now, with potential for greatness if the author builds the world and develops the character interactions well. Roughly about 3.5 stars - I'll give it a 4 for now, but it could swing either way with time. <<less
