Night Battles—system-organized battles carried out in the dead of the night when all are asleep, save for Night Battle participants.

“Congratulations, you have obtained the SSS-grade power.”

The system’s voice is music to the ears.

Yet for Fang Ran…

Slamming the magic book in his hand onto the ground, he bellows, “F*ck you and your Clow Cards! I am not a f*cking magical girl!”

Fang Ran, twenty years old, with no bad track record, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink, and is a virg*n. The amount of time he has been single is the same as his age. He had always believed that he has an ordinary fate.

However, he is about to find out that fate is in fact unpredictable when he gets randomly dragged into Night Battles.

“What happened to the promised immortality cultivation, ancient martial abilities, magic powers and witchcraft?!”

“I f*cking started with a cool infinity-genre opening, so why did I get the power of a magical girl!?”

I'm going to be picking up and translating this light novel. I really enjoy reading, the plot is really creative and different, and the comedy in this novel is hilarious. There are many confusing parts in the novel that wasn't explained in the beginning but will slowly reveal later in the story. Edit: Oh crap it has an English license already, I guess I can't pick it up now I guess....

It was really fun. Mostly comedy and I was interested to see how he and his powers developed as a magical boy but the sudden genre shift at the end of volume 1 ruined it for me.

Spoiler

it was all fun and games with a bit of the “i wanna protect my friends” thing magical girls do from time to time. But suddenly the author changes the ending of the team battle. At first it’s written as he and his other 2 magical girl buddies stumble into victory and you think he only has to go back to the real world and deal with the rom com awaiting him there cuz before he was dragged in to the other world he saved a girl but NOPE!

all of a sudden we are worrying over a guy wanting to kill him his 2 MG friends end up having shady backgrounds and even the personalies they displayed before might have been faked. Our “magical girl pet companion” (a hacker loli) leaves to try and save you by semi sacrificing herself and the MC gives away his beating heart to an A-ranker so he now runs on mana and if it ever reaches zero hes dead. Oh and aparently he had a split personality or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[collapse]

anyway thats what I got from the mtl. The author says they did it this way cuz a simple funny story would not be “interesting enough” or something. I dropped it there cuz I didn’t like the turn the novel took. I preferred the simple “i have magical girl powers in an unlimited flow story” and see the MC luckily stumble to the top in amusing ways over a dark conspiracy driven story. <<less

Not reviewing, as I haven't read hardly any (just the summary, in fact), but it bugs me. Cardcaptor Sakura isn't technically the magical girl genre! She has no transformation, her outfits were provided by Tomoyo because she liked dressing her up, and the cards that were on the loose originally belonged to a man, Clow Reed, and are indeed very powerful and not actually girly at all. The wand for summoning Clow cards was the only girly thing about it, and that's only because the staff was a little pink.... more>> So, basically, the protagonist, for complaining, sounds like an obnoxious, sexist pig, because I'd take those cards in a heartbeat. You literally would have every element under your control and then some. What a buffoon... <<less
